3 out of 5 stars Live at The Brixton Academy.......2007-07-26

Didn't realise how old this CD was, but the different spin on the style of music was a change.

5 out of 5 stars BRIAN MAY LIVE AT BRIXTON.......2007-03-14

BEING A FAN OF QUEEN I KNEW BRIAN COULD SING AND IS THE BEST GUITARIST IN THE WORLD. BUT, I DID NOT EXPECT WHAT I HEARD ON THIS CD. HE IS AWESOME. I AM SO GLAD HE DECIDED TO DO HIS OWN TOUR AND CD'S. ALTHOUGHT FREDDIE WAS
A GREAT SINGER AND SHOWMAN, BRIAN WAS ALWAYS IN HIS SHADOW.
HE PUT TOGETHER A GREAT BAND WITH COZY POWELL ON DRUMS. THEY SEEMED TO ENJOY WORKING TOGETHER. COZY HAS BEEN MISSED SINCE HIS UNTIMELY DEATH. BUT, THE WORK WITH BRIAN WILL GO ON FOREVER.
IF YOU ARE A FAN OF QUEEN OR BRIAN MAY THIS IS A MUST OWN. YOU WILL ENJOY THIS CD. IF YOU DON'T KNOW QUEEN OR BRIAN'S MUSIC YOU SHOULD BUY IT AND YOU WILL BECOME A FAN OF BOTH.

5 out of 5 stars The World's Greatest.......2006-07-02

No one can down Brian May. His vocal is and has always been tremendous. Anyone who has listened carefully to the Queen albums knows that Brian's vocals are and have always been immaculate. Playing amazing guitar at the same time just gives him more points. The fact that he's performing old Queen tunes just goes to show how much of their material he actually penned. Hail Brian May. Hail Queen.

4 out of 5 stars Better than Queen's live versions!.......2005-12-29

While Brian doesn't have the vocal chops of Freddie or Paul Rodgers, the versions of Queen songs (notice that Brian wrote the majority of the ROCKERS for Queen) kick much butt. I'd LOVE to see the video of this. But the cd is certainly sheer listening pleasure, and should be played at high volume. The Brian solo stuff is well done too. If you love Queen's Rockier songs, these are the definitive live versions. I saw Queen in 1986 at Wembley, a show that was preserved for posterity, and currently available on CD or DVD. With that said, compare the versions of the same songs between the two, and the Brian May live cd is superior.

4 out of 5 stars Good CD, but video version was better.......2005-07-25

Read all the reviews, unfortunately they only had the CD to listen to. I was fortunate to be in London in Feb. 1994 when this was available on VHS (PAL) version. Since I have a couple of multisystem VCR's I am able to enjoy this concert like it should be. Yeah, Brians voice often was a little weak, but what did you expect, he is from a band that had Freddie Mercury handling the majority of the vocals. The guitar playing was top notch and the band was extemely well suited to backing him up. Also the backing vocalists were quite attractive and they were very talented as well and put a lot of "movement" into singing the backing vocals. The concert was extremely well filmed and it is a shame that this has not been released to DVD yet and may never be. At least I bought two copies, so if the one ever wears out, I still have another, and I am probably the only one in the US to have this...lucky me. If you only bought the CD version of this, you only got half the show, this was a concert that was very entertaining and to see Brian playing the "Red Special" up close a lot was great. Dennis C.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Pretty much the Real Thing Live.......2006-11-20

But that doesn't make it any less good. The Real Thing is one of my favorite albums of all time, so these live tracks certainly are enjoyable. The dvd is even better, they put on a sick show, it also includes "As the Worm Turns" and "Underwater Love". What really got me on this cd was "The Cowboy Song". I was hungry for more Real Thing-era FNM and this song is definately in the same vein, it should have been on the Real Thing. It's catchy and epic at the same time. One of my favorite FNM songs. I spent $12 and it was all worth it for "The Cowboy Song", the live stuff just added.

5 out of 5 stars Do your ears a favor and OY!OY!OY!.......2006-08-23

I can't even remember where I got this CD, or when exactly (early twenties kinda a blur),probally when I was hungry for anything FNM. There's plenty of energy here, M.P. let's it all out the bag. Anybody looking for live FNM (pre-Angel Dust)would'nt be disappointed. Some really sweet tracks. You would think the Brits would be critical of any Sabbath cover, but M.P. gets them in a sing along. Live version of "We Care A Lot"(Discovery Channels Dirty Jobs theme song) with a new kid spoof(does anybody remember them?) FNM always satisfied fans with on stage antics (like on SNL)and it comes through on this live release. But wait there's more, "The Cowboy Song" studio track has a guitar solo that'll blow your mind.

4 out of 5 stars Glimpses of Brilliance and a Hidden Gem.......2002-11-15

Hearing Billy Gould talk about Live at Brixton it makes sound this was a heavily overdubbed, over produced "live album" typical of most of the live albums put out by arena rock bands like KISS where the live elements like audience noise are generally mixed in after wards.

Still does this mean this is a substandard CD? No. It's basically the Real Thing live with one song, "We Care a Lot" from the band's first and second records. This CD showcases the greatness of the Real Thing / Rock mode FNM very well and also gives at hint at the weirdness that was to come for the band. The ever bizarre Mike Patton dropping in bits of the New Kids on the Block "Right Stuff" and Teknotronic's "Pump up the Jam" is a perfect example of this. Of course anyone who was lucky enough to catch the band live would know that they regularly included covers from guys like Take That (Back for Good), the Bee Gees (I Started A Joke), Portishead (Glory Box) in the sets as well as renditions of standards like Green Sleeves and Spanish Eyes.

But for me the real gem on this disc is the bonus studio track "The Cowboy Song" which along with "The Perfect Crime" from the Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey CD are great missing tracks for the Real Thing era of FNM. It really showcases the talents of the band a great keyboard hook by Roddy, Billy's masterful bass thumping and the grinding geetars of Jim Martin (founder of the Faith No More spiritual and religious sect). It's another one of those tracks that really makes you wish Faith No More would release a real B-Sides collection of these tracks and stuff like Das Schutzenfest or the Patton version of As the Worm Turns.

In short if you like the Real Thing or a Faith No More completist, you really should make an effort to find this album.

5 out of 5 stars I'm so happy they put this out.......2001-08-15

Altough it never was released in the US, I am very glad that the record company decided to capitalize on FNM's success at the time and put out this live record. There is never a dull moment with this band, and their live show is no different. Each song gets the "Patton touch", and although difficult to digest at first, you will find yourself liking these versions of songs off 'The Real Thing' just as much as the originals, and liking the fact that this isn't just the 1989 release with a bit of crowd noise. The songs are completely different, with Patton also giving his version of the FNM staple, 'We Care A Lot'. And if the 8 songs weren't enough for anyone drooling for an FNM live show, we are treated to two rarities, 'The Grade' and 'The Cowboy Song', the latter being one of the best songs the band wrote in that era. Definitely worth the import price, this live show rocks.

4 out of 5 stars Brixton.......2000-07-15

Awesome! A classic Faith No More Album. It will blow you away. Supreme war pigs cover showing just how heavy FNM can be. Even sports a little comic relief by doing a New kids on the block tune

Don't really know too much about the band but the cd is certainly entertaining. There original music is pretty good and it really comes through live. With two tracks attributed to Johnny Cash, it makes for a good listen. It is a bit short, but it doesn't take away from the recording. I suppose they wanted to get the band in and out of the prison lunch room as quick as possible before the inmates rioted the prison. I definitely hear a nirvana influence in the sound also.

5 out of 5 stars live from prison, it's fugazi, nirvana and Jcash all in one.......1998-07-18

Four guys from Derby, England with balls the size of the moon. Who else would want to perform for London's most ruthless criminals? Johnny Cash has in the past (San Quentin, that is) and it makes sense since CABLE cover his song by the same name. What the hell is this you ask? If you dare, witness the subtleness and rage CABLE offers all wrapped into one extremely loud and raucous EP. Matt, Pete, Darius and Richie- no holds barred. Destined to rock America in the ensuing years, CABLE have what it takes wake us from our boring R&B, electronic, pop lives. Forget everything you've ever heard, this is the band of the year 2000.

        RIYL-smashing pumpkins, nirvana, fugazi.

This is quite possibly one of the most original albums that I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. With only one track that lasts nearly a half an hour, this album is not for the faint of heart due to the fact that it's nothing but a set of harsh noise. If you're a fan of noise artists then you'll love this album, if not then it might take a while for you to like it.

Do not throw away 15 dollars, instead, just turn on an am radio and tune in to an empty frequency and listen to the static at full blast. That is all this is, 26 min. of static. I have been listening to ATR since 95, and there is nothing special or beautiful about this albumn like previous reviewers have stated. This deserves 0 stars

5 out of 5 stars ATRS MOST BEAUTIFUL RELEASE. GIVE IT TIME........2002-06-06

This is definatly a very controversial and mixed feeling release by the DHR crew. Admittedly, it is a very difficult album to understand. However, it is worth every penny to the right person. One must understand before listening, which can be done by reading the liner notes of the album, that this was the grand finale of ATR. This is where they forever left music and what a way to go!! This certainly isnt a quite or sentimental departure, but rather a violent emotional explosion of rage and frustration and a sense of knowing that it is the end. There has never been a release that so clearly conveys emotion or purity - curiously enough, it would come from an avant-gaurd mix of political angst and distorted sound. When you take the proper time to fully appreciate the album you'll come to understand how simply beautiful and pure and sincere this effort is. ONE OF THERE BEST!!!

2 out of 5 stars Atari Teenage Riot at their worst!.......2002-04-03

I am a big Atari Teenage Riot fan, and this is by far their worst album. The whole album is boring except for a minute or so. It is not really music, but a noise show with no real talent. I would only recommend this album to die hard fans of Atari Teenage Riot and Nine Inch Nails. Also, this album is over-priced...

5 out of 5 stars Ten Inches Of Nails On A Nine Inch Wall.......2001-03-17

I was in attendance at the Brixton Academy the evening this was recorded and am glad to have it on CD. Obviously the finer details got lost in the blast which we received in the hall, but closer listening reveals a wonderfully-defined matrix of noise, bits of riffs, distant yells and ultimate catharsis. As with all the best noise freakouts - qv Brotzmann's "Machine Gun," the Stooges' "LA Blues," the closing sections of Mike Westbrook's "Marching Song" - you are aware that Alec and friends knew exactly what they were doing. Crucial extra presence: Nic Endo.

        5 out of 5 stars +_+.......2001-01-22

NOISE IS THE PURE FORM OF SOUND, AND THIS IS NOISE PUT IN ONE OF ITS MORE HARSH FORMS. WHILE THIS RECORD IS NOT FOR EVERYONE I TRULY BELIEVE THAT IT BRINGS OUT THERE MSG BETTER THEN ANY OF THERE PRIOR RELEASES. FOR ANYONE WHO EVER TRULY FOLLOWED PUNK ROCKS MSG THIS IS A ALBUM FOR U.
