5 out of 5 stars Incredible Bass.......2006-11-24

Anyone who can hold thier own with Jeff Berlin is worthy of a listen .
Kotzen seems to know all the scales that go with the Chords that were aranged here . Jeff Berlin has been leading groups for years , and is a whole show by himself .Kotzen compliments Berlins busy playing with his Holdsworth style chops ,i wonder if they call him Ritchie Holdsworth , just to bust his balls.Unison lines between Bass and Guitar on this level is a rarity. Berlin is an amazing player ,Bissenette is the real deal as well, he is on many mainstream Jazz recordings .

5 out of 5 stars One of the best Fusion CDýs out there!! .......2006-04-25

If you like rock & jazz, you will love this CD, it has some really impresive chops, great melodies, Kotzen?s technique is simply amazing, one cauld not guess that this is the same guitar player in ?Mother Head?s Family Reunion?. One thing I liked a lot is that this is not like other cd?s where track 1 sounds just like track 12, definetely a MUST HAVE.

3 out of 5 stars A single gem: Last words.......2003-10-20

Richie is a fantastic guitar player, non doubt about it. I love him as a player and performer, but this record is not one of his best in my opinion. I know that Richie himself would take what I will write in the next lines as a compliment. Richie is a fantastic song writer in my opinion but he's not so great in the contexts he was playing here. Avant garde, futuristic hard fusion. I don't like his playing very much, too awkward and not so focused. Compositions are not so exciting or memorable. I prefer at least a couple of hundreds players more than him in these territories. He is an extremely gifted guitar player but in a song context for what I am concerned. In those territories he's really one of the most underrated artists around. And he is a really talented singer too. In my opinion he is what Lenny Kravitz would dream to be. A stellar blues/fusion guitarplayer/singer/performer with incredible natural talent. Lenny instead is only a bad guitar player, a decent song writer with a nice voice but with a BIG record company pushing him! Listen to "Last word", the last track of this album to understand what I mean about Richie. I'm glad I did buy this album almost only for this memorable, exceptional song ... thanxs Richie. I know you're going the right way now, maybe one day a BIG record company will push you. You're too talented. You with your acoustic guitar can eat Lenny Kravitz and his whole record company in a bite! Insist. Your Nicole Kidman time will come. (Uh, hey guys tell Nicole that Richie is a much better musician than Lenny!!)

3 out of 5 stars Not quite a fusion masterpiece, but a good effort.......2001-08-19

With this album, Kotzen proves to be a very versatile guitarist, this time covering funk-based fusion. The compositions are not really memorable, but the musicianship and performance levels are high. The presence of top players Gregg Bissonette and Jeff Berlin give some extra credibility to the record, eventhough Kotzen is up to their chops. Low points: the vocal tracks are quite out of place compared with the rest of the album, and by the way are easily forgettable. Those tracks could have been replaced with more jams with Bissonette and Berlin. Overall, it's a good album and much more focused than his previous solo efforts. It also gives a good idea of the enormous potential that Kotzen has as a performer. Take in consideration that by the time he released this album he was still in his mid-20's. If he keeps working this way, in the near future he can become one of the best fusion (and overall) guitarists. Worth a check also his work with the band VERTU, with Stanley Clarke, Lenny White, Karen Briggs and Rachel Z.

3 out of 5 stars Great Technician , but this is a total Wank!.......1999-05-03

I think Ritchie is hip to the joke, but nobody else is laughing. His gonads must be so small from blowing his wad over every square inch of the recording studio.Too much wanking Ritchie boy, time to grow up.
