Tori Amos' following seems as fervent as it is unlikely, a forceful fusion of oft-mocked '70s singer-songwriter conceits with a progressive bent in an era dominated by alt `n' snark, yet channeled through her own, typically heart-on-the-sleeve sense of emotional dramatics. This 12-CD chronicle of 2005 live stands in Chicago, Denver, L.A., the UK and Boston may not be as expansive as Pearl Jam's 72-volume marathon documentation of their Binaural tour, but Amos does indeed share the latter's mercurial live ethos and penchant for inventive, often unexpected covers. Each concert here begins with a take on The Beekeeper's mood-setting "Original Sensuality," then spins off in its own peculiar, emotionally-charged course through the full range of Amos' canon. But it's the set's documentation of her intriguing reworking of others' songs that's just as appealing, notably, Jim Croce's "Operator" or a tribute to Amos' inspirations via Joni Mitchell's "Circle Game" or left-field, if surprisingly effective versions of Flock of Seagull's "I Ran" and Livin' On a Prayer" by Bon Jovi from Denver and L.A. respectively. With a crowd-pleasing rapport that's evident throughout, she treats audiences in her adopted UK home to takes on local heroes from George Michael ("Father Figure") to Oasis ("Don't Look Back in Anger") and pumps up Boston's hometown pride with a Kate Bush-esque spin on Aerosmith's "Dream On," as well as slow-burn turns through Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and the Stones' "Angie." --Jerry McCulley

4 out of 5 stars Flame-Lit Portrait of Practice.......2007-03-06

There is no other oppurtunity like this for a portal into the red-headed songstress' practice. Her breath is decadently close, the mother's growl especially audible in her many prelude-permutations of "Original Sinsuality." Tori Amos' peerless performance is here--seductive in its lure into her mind, improvisational, submerged as evident in her Manchester close to "Spring Haze." I am continually amazed at the striking totality of the composer's work--specifically, the wide catalogue of her work within these bootlegs, 80s-revived "Cool on your Island" alongside electronic, brooding "The Beekeeper" color the distance of Tori's progressive yarn.
Songs that linger for me are "Liquid Diamonds," also in the Manchester show, for its tour-added verses and ritualism, the covers in the Boston show, "requested," ephemeral, and heartful, the numerous allusions to the 80s ("Like A Prayer", "I Ran"), the magick of the gospel singer's presence at the Hammersmith Apollo for the tour's only performance of "Witness," and the Chicagoan charm of "Apollo's Frock" and "Marianne." For the most Arcane of fans.

5 out of 5 stars the best of times.......2007-02-11

Tori's "Original Bootlegs" provides a stunning window into her "Original Sinsuality" tour in 2005. These six CDs, each one named for a specific section of the "Beekeeper" album, showcase the thing that continues to make Tori Amos stand out--namely, a willingness not to rest on her laurels. With each concert, she interprets the new (like stand-outs "Barons of Suburbia" and "Jamaica Inn") and reinterprets the old (like the edited version of "Yes Anastasia" and the beefed-up, organ-enhanced version of "Spring Haze"). Granted, all is not happyland; there are a lot of overlapping songs from one concert to another. But, as usual for Tori, every time through a song is a new interpretation, so don't complain too much! Another set of jewels to be found in this box set is the collection of great covers. Beginning with a glorious version of Jim Croce's "Operator," Tori covers everything from Joni Mitchell to Flock of Seagulls. For uninitiated Tori fans, these covers may be a way to convert!

5 out of 5 stars Finally.......2006-11-17

This is a great package for all fans. It's Tori and her keyboards doing high magic! Obviously her own material is brilliant and we toriphiles all know it by heart, but the covers are also excellent and a great surprise! She's got a great voice and wonderful arrangements that make this experience the more delightful. Because the box set contains several concerts you get many hours of listening pleasure that you can hear over and over again! She's not very talkative but when she does talk it's a delight cause she can be very deep and complex but also hysterically funny! On the whole a magnificent collection!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2006-10-30

Ok, ok, ok.....it's girlfriend flying solo with no net. There be no back'er'up band. I am SO entirely cool with that. She sounds awesome on these CD's. Buy this, play each at 11 and totally enjoy!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars The Return of the Piano.......2006-08-12

I had the pleasure of seeing Miss Amos perform in NYC during this Original Sinsuality tour. I was mesmerized by how immense Amos' ability was at playing the piano. At times, she would straddle the piano bench, playing the organ with one hand and the piano with the other. Truly inspiring.
These albums capture Tori solo with her piano, and the improvs and intros have never been more intricate nor beautiful. Her voice has matured, becoming more husky than what she produced in the early 90's. This produces a great contast in sound, allowing for a truly cathartic listening experience as Amos goes from the gutteral to the sublime. A must have for Tori fans.

5 out of 5 stars Best of West Coast Rap.......2007-01-10

Excellent rap depicting the West Coast life style. Ice Cube is one of the originals from the West Coast and one of the best lyicist/rapper/actor today. His description of LA is absolutely great!

5 out of 5 stars The last great project from the Ice Cube we love.......2006-12-19

Even this album is like a lost tapes album, it has a lot of gems in it. Standout Tracks: ROBBIN HOOD, WHAT CAN I DO REMIX, 24 WIT AN L, YOU KNOW HOW WE DO IT REMIX, CHECK YO SELF REMIX, YOU DONT WANNA F*** WIT THESE, LIL A** GEE REMIX, MY SKIN IS MY SIN(WC busts the best verse of his rap career on this one), U AINT GONNA TAKE MY LIFE, WHEN I GET TO HEAVEN REMIX etc. Filler: None. Bottom Line: Even though this album is mostly remixes and unreleased tracks it is still a classic worth picking up. Robbin Hood, 24 Wit An L, My Skin Is My Sin, U Aint Gonna Take My Life etc are all classic replay material. If you can find this album you make it a part of your collection.

5 out of 5 stars Great Album!.......2006-06-06

For those of us who have known Ice Cube for years, who are just now getting into him this is by far a great album. I'm not going to go into which songs are good and which are not, that is all just an opinion. If you like him today or yesterday pick it up for sure!

5 out of 5 stars under-rated.......2006-04-24

you guys are insane, this CD is BOMB. it's some old school classic Ice Cube. and if you don't like this CD, then get the hell out.

3 out of 5 stars Dope........2004-03-21

This disc probably isn't that essential, but for the fanatic it's a must. It's a pretty solid mix of stuff. "24 With An L" is good, and I really like "My Skin Is My Sin". But this also has some sweet remixes. "I Was A Good Day" is different but good, and my favorite is "U Ain't Gonna Take My Life", which has great lyrics, and samples the Chili Peppers "Sir Psycho Sexy", and En Vogue's "Never Gonna Get It". The last track is a sweet continuous mix of many of "Cubes" past hits. If you're a fan of his early 90's stuff, check out "Bootlegs & B-Sides".

5 out of 5 stars CLASSIC RBL TRACKS.......2001-06-27

this cd has many hard r.b.l. tracks from the 90's. cuts from "eye for an eye" all the way back to when mr. cee was alive and they had "ruthless by law". there are a couple black c/mr. cee remixes that are hard, and a track produced by t.c. the enhancer that loops the "space cowboy" beat. "tryna make $1 out of 15 cents" with r.b.l. and master p is a straight classic. worth playing all the way through (that's saying a lot with rap tapes recently, right!!)

4 out of 5 stars Classic Luniz material.......1999-07-07

This EP is a re-release of material the Luniz had recorded before their nationwide debut "Operation Stackola". At the time, they went by the name Luni Tunz, which was later shortened into Luniz. Fans of "Operation Stackola" will undoubtably love this EP for its humorous lyrics, and trademark Oakland beats, which were both missing from the lackluster "Lunitik Muzik" album. My only complaint is that this is short for even an EP, containing only 6 tracks (and only 5 unreleased tracks, since "Just A Freak" is also on "Operation Stackola"). Still, don't let this stop you from buying the EP, because you will be pleased, especially if you're a Luniz fan.

I love this piece. Not quite Cool From The Wire or Turn Of The Screw but it rocks!!! Anyone that likes 80's Hard Rock or Ac/Dc around the Dirty Deeds-High Voltage era should look into DIRTY LOOKS! They are by far my Favorite band and have been since around 1989 when I discovered Cool From The Wire. I done everything I can think of to grow my collection from then. Don't stop with the 3 listed CD's. They are all great. I even have I Want More, In Your Face and the self titled idependant releases. Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Really pretty bad...........2005-05-20

I have to agree that if you are not a rabid, insanely crazed fan of ELP ,then this is one of thee last things you should possibly consider buying.
The sound quality on both discs hardly ever elevates beyond the point of annoying...in that the sound is mostly so bad that some of the instruments are almost inaudible.Which ,for me, negates the usefullness of the versions of the tracks included.
One thing I can say is that it was certainly lucky for me that this was released ,because now I know that I definitely DO NOT want the 7 & 8 CD Bootleg Boxes offered that this stuff is compiled from.
I can use this as an example, though. The two Tangerine Dream Boxes of "bootleg" performances are of such a high quality compared to this drek that I am even more happy for their release. Sad,huh?
Wanna hear ELP live? Then get Welcome Back My Friends...(the 2CD set) or The Live release from the 1977 tour...now they are very enjoyable!
This is just too dismal in sound quality.
Is it really "The Best of The Bootlegs"??

2 out of 5 stars Beaten by the real thing.......2002-12-12

As a fan of the band, of the songs chosen for this compilation, of live performances, and of rare recordings, I should be delighted with "Best of the Bootlegs." Except that the sound quality is awful . . . and I don't mean "audiophile" awful. I mean, "Wha??" awful. I've heard many a bootleg with far superior sound.

I would suggest getting the "Welcome Back My Friends To The Show That Never Ends," "Works Live," or "King Biscuit Flower Hour" sets first. All are from legitimate sources, and the first two together offer a pretty complete portrait of ELP live in the 70s. "KBFH" is a two-disc set combining a "Works Live"-era performance (from the latter part of the tour) on the first disc with a 1974 version of 'Karn Evil 9' (as well as multimedia material) on the second disc. It's a worthwhile addition to the other two live albums because, unlike "Works Live," the first disc is without an orchestra and includes a version of 'Pirates.'

5 out of 5 stars Almost the Best of the Bootlegs.......2002-09-08

This is a gem for those not buying the two (all in all) 15CD Bootleg boxes! Escpecially if you think extended and very different improvisations of the same tunes, and eccentric performances, may not quite be your thing - and you still enjoy ELP and progressive adventurous music.

On this 2CD you'll get the essence of ELP live in the 70's, even if the bootleg sound is not quite up to their incredible live recordings "Pictures at an Exhibition" and "Welcome Back My Friends To The Show That Never Ends". Here, finally, you'll get to hear the pieces left out from other live recordings, like Barbarian, Knife Edge and The Endless Enigma.

The only misgiving is that the Pictures performance from Buffalo in 74 is not included. That was the occasion when Keith Emerson again managed to surprise Mr. Bob Moog (whose headquarter was in Buffalo) with what his instrument could do.

Still, whether you're into covers, linar notes or even the music, this very much shows why ELP was the greatest live band of them all in the 70's, surpassing Floyd, Stones and Zeppelin, even if one forgets about that carpet.

3 out of 5 stars ELP Bootlegs.......2002-05-14

Well it makes me mad that they came out with this CD after I already bought the other two boxsets but that's the way things go I guess!? Anyway this CD is worth getting if you are a diehard ELP fan. It has some of their best performances from the 70's which was their best years.

5 out of 5 stars Hardcore Virtuosity .......2005-09-11

Frank Gambale's Resident Alien-Live Bootlegs is XXX instrumental pornography, and that is meant in a positive way. Gambale is an innovative guitarist whose astonishing musical depth is matched by equally fearsome technique. There are some who would say that the long solos from all the musicians concerned are akin to an adult film where all of the "money shots" have been edited together for pure slobber value. Others would contend that unfettered virtuosity, far from being self-indulgent instrumental wanking, is actually the ultimate form of musical expression. I tend toward the latter view. Gambale is one of the best fusion guitarists ever, combining a shredders chops, a jazzman's musical sophistication, and an innovator's vision into an awesome musical whole. He belongs with the elite group of fusion instrumentalists that includes Henderson, Morse, Holdsworth, McLaughlin, Lane, and DiMeola. Frank Gambale has been an exceptional sideman with many fusion greats. He excelled with Jean-Luc Ponty, (tour only) Chick Corea Elektric Band, and Vital Information. He also is amazing on many 'All-Star' collaborations on Tone Center such as the Gambale/Hamm/Smith and MVP recordings. He makes a great case for being the greatest fusion guitar sideman of all time. He also is, in my opinion, one of the greatest fusion guitarists period and deserves to be placed into the lineage that includes the likes of Mclaughlin, Dimeola and Holdsworth.
The problem, for me, has been with his solo recordings. You never know what you're going to get with Gambale. His early recordings paled compared to the Elektric Band, "The Great Explorers" sounded like Satriani at times, but he has branched out from those early CD's. His compositional style has vastly improved and lately he has penned many a great fusion song. Frank has always been amazing live and his early live CD, entitled "Frank Gambale:Live" was the best thing he had done on his own. Frank released this 2CD set a couple of years ago and ,like on the previous live recording, Frank unleashes all of his guitar wizardry. Both discs don't emphasize composition, instead this is live fusion and the trios grab the ball and run with it.
The formula is simple. The band starts out the tune and then Frank demonstrates his ability to mesmerize and all of the songs turn into extended jams. There are covers; such as Coltrane's "Equinox" and Grolnick's "Nothing Personal" both of which are incredible. The members of the rhythm sections are given opportunities to shine and there are also moments of interplay that are great. The disc also features various Gambale originals. All of these songs also become extended jams are there is even a live version of a song from the first Gambale/Hamm/Smith Cd.('Lydia's Love Van") The various trios are comprised of musicians that aren't household names to most fusion fans. They are all very good musicians and although they don't blow me away, they are more than solid and very entertaining. They do seem to inspire Mr. Gambale and he seems to play at greater heights as the songs evolve. Frank goes beyond his typical amazing self and enters new levels of inspiration. The disc does contain a rerelease of the Gambale original "New Boots". This song isn't live and was originally on the then unavailable "Truth In Shredding" Cd.
The whole purpose of these 2 discs are for the listener to hear Frank unleashed. This release is all about the virtuostic displays of Gambale and there are plenty of them. If you like fusion jamming then these discs were made with you in mind and you'll love this. There are also moments of interplay between Frank and his rhythm sections that make jazz/fusion the genre that it is. Gambale fans should pick this up and won't be dissapointed. If you don't own any Gambale, try this one out. I haven't heard a solo release by him that is any better.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite Gambale.......2002-11-30

Gambale makes no apologies for his take no prisoners over the top guitar playing. But unlike many guitaritst that play a million technical notes that dont say anything, Frank does. Few people can solo for 15 minutes and keep it interesting, and he does. It seems franks playing has grown with more musicality, and creativity, with time. The million notes a second are impressive, but now there is also a very musical feel to this. A very tricky balance to obtain. There is a feel and smoothness as well as some really tasty melodies and melodic movements with different feels for different songs. In short I can listen to this double CD of guitar solos completely through 2 or 3 times and not get bored or fatigued, but do get inspired.

5 out of 5 stars It ain't bragging if you can do it........2001-08-24

Hot stuff. And this is really just a jam session so it sounds like Frank & Co are in your living room. As usual, FG is playing "can you top this" much of the time and after 50,000 or so arpeggios it can get a bit fatiguing.

But the simple fact is, he can do it! Not just play fast, but play over any chord, any progression. Live. On the spot. Blues--of course, but also Coltrane. And it is...effortless! FG doesn't think "Hmmm...what can I play over that progression..." He knows. I'm making it sound so mechanical but its really spontaneous.

Except for Scott Henderson, Allan Holdsworth and (maybe) Robben Ford I can't think of anyone who can play rock & blues well AND play jazz and fusion on this level. Prepare to be impressed.

2 out of 5 stars Beaten by the real thing.......2007-08-02

4 out of 5 stars Good live songs, bad live sound.......2006-11-20

This 2 CD package of Emerson, Lake and Plamer in concert features a bunch of thier hits, live on stage. Although the songs are great, the sound quality is rather diminished, becuase of the fact that they were all bootleged. This was my first ELP CD and I ound that it was very good. I got it used at only $ 8.00, and I saw that it had 2 disks and I thought that it would be good to have because it's 2 disks of pure live ELP, and it was such a low price. I'd say if you are looking for some good, raw, live ELP and you don't want to spend some hundred odd dollars on the Manticore Box Sets, get this because it's a best of live, and those good.
