If you know AC/DC by only Black in Black,are you missing a lot my friend.Years ago,I was one who only though thought that. Slowly but surely,purchased High Voltage,Let There Be Rock,Highway To Hell,etc.. and of course this one,Powerage. One word to explain this...Masterpiece~!!!! With songs like, R N R Damnation,Down Payment Blues,Riff Raff,Sin City and What's Next To The Moon.It sucks you in and never spits you out..if you want great rock,buy this one now!!!! A solid 5 for Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All of these remastered reissues are GREAT! I walked into Best Buy and bought all at once (well, except for Let There Be Rock which I needed to special order) and that $70 happily flew out of my hands. The books that come with each CD are well worth the money themselves. Unlike some booklets like these, they aren't padded with "I love this band", "this album is great" and "this and every other song is amazing historic and will change your life."

Some background about the album, the time period in the band's history, and other behind the scenes info make up most of it including information about the tours and other trivia. Good, meaty stuff.

Powerage in particular is a delight. A far too often overlooked album that many don't even know exists is more consistent that some of of the more popular albums. It has a slightly different sound than the other albums - almost progressive! You won't find radio-friendly hits but this album pulls you in and never lets you go.

Why doesn't this record get the respect it deserves??? No radio play, though it is much better than either 'High Voltage' or 'Dirty Deeds'. Some music guides call it a misstep...or a not ready for prime time record. 'Powerage' is easily one of the band's top five classics and maybe because it isn't as overexposed as the lps that preceeded or came after it is why I love it so much. I do agree that it does represent the end of an era, the last Australian reoorded album and until 1988's "Blow Up Your Video", the last produced by Harry Vanda and George Young. 'Powerage' was the record before Atlantic Records poured more money into the band and demanded a more commercial sound. While history may have proved the corporate bigwigs right, can 'Powerage rock as heavily and memorably as anything AC/DC has put out? Of course it can and the band is running on all cylinders here with new boy Cliff Williams on bass. Some of Bon's best lyrics show up in classics such as "Sin City", one of their alltime greatest and a tribute to Vegas. "Down Payment Blues" and "Rock and Roll Damnation" bemoan the rock n'roll lifestyle (got myself a cadillac, but I can't afford the gasoline....ma's own whippin' boy"). "Up to My Neck in You", "Gone Shootin" and "Kicked in the Teeth" speak of self destructive relationships and dangerous women ('wishin' this neck wasn't mine...two faced woman with your two faced lies"). The brothers Young, who outdid themselves with 'Let There Be Rock', create another monster guitar sound and "Riff Raff" is devastation deluxe and as one magazine called it awhile back..."bonecrushing boogie", perfect! Why are people saying the second half is a letdown? "Neck" and "Teeth" close the record in thunderous fashion. New Wave and Punk were called innovative and significant by the mainstream press (hello Rolling Stone!) but AC/DC was already a tribute to the undying power of rock and near the peak of their powers during the Bon Scott Era....now all they needed was one iconic anthem/album to put them over the top...

An Album With TRUE "Staying Power"!.......2007-03-05

"Powerage" not only captures AC/DC in their prime, but it also showcases some of Angus' catchiest and most complex guitar work (both in his soloing and in his riffs), some of Malcolm's best rhythm guitar duties, and of course, all Bon has to offer, because that's all he ever gives to his fans. While not as popular as other AC/DC classics such as "Highway to Hell" or "Black in Black", it still is probably my third favorite album from the "Thunder from Down-Under." This cd just has IT. I don't know quite exactly what IT is, but IT got me hooked in right away, gave me countless and memorable listening experiences, and still gives me enjoyment to this day. In reality, it's so hard to describe, I don't know where to start.

*************Take the new and fresh gem that is the track "What's Next to the Moon"; the gang-vocals on the last couple of verses, the new and creative tom-beat from Rudd, or the nice, simple riff delivered by our favorite schoolboy. Take the classic "Sin City" (my personal favorite on Powerage), with the creative bass-guitar interlude and simply delicious solo from Angus (my fav on the cd), the live-friendly hits "Riff Raff" or "Rock n Roll Damnation" both containing vintage-AC/DC riffs, catchy chorus', and Angus' trademark solos, or the underrated and memorable "Downpayment Blues" and "Gimme' a Bullet" both amazing songs with creativity and freshness shroudding their glory. And those are only a few of the goods. The WHOLE album is full of nine great rockers, not one of them being bad. In short, "Powerage" is literally a flawless recording, production-wise...in musicianship... in the whole attitide and atmosphere of the cd really.

-So, if you want an album that won't displease you, won't leave you scratching your head in dissapointment (asking yourself where the band went wrong), but that will leave you with appreciative ears and a black-toothed grin on your face, for God's sake get this classic!

Primarily a Punk outfit, ENGLISH DOGS flirted with the in vogue Thrash movement with more Metallized albums issued on Music For Nations' subsidiary label Under One Flag. Formed in October 1981 the band debuted with two demos during 1982 entitled 'Show No Mercy' and 'Free To Kill'. The band toured as support to GBH in Germany during early 1983 followed by a British tour guesting for DISCHARGE before signing to Clay Records in July 1983 and releasing their first vinyl product, a 6 track EP titled 'Mad Punx And English Dogs'. ENGLISH DOGS first full length album, 'Invasion Of The Porky Men', emerged a year later. Personnel changes ensued after the debut album emerged with vocalist Wakey departing to be replaced by ex-ULTRAVIOLENT singer Ade Bailey. At this juncture the band also decided to augment their live sound by adding ex-DESTRUCTORS guitarist Graham 'Gizz' Butt. The band quit Clay to sign with Rot Records releasing the 'To The Ends Of The Earth' EP in September 1984. Displaying leanings towards Black Metal the band now headed towards the Metal end of the music spectrum, culminating with the 'Where Legend Began' album through Under One Flag in 1986. The group appeared on the legendary Shades promoted Thrash bill at Camden's Electric Ballroom with POSSESSED and VOIVOD later in 1986. Line-up changes saw the introduction of former OVERDRIVE man John Murray on bass guitar. Wakey returned to the band to record 1994's comeback 'Bow To None', whilst the 1995 single on Wretch Records was recorded with new vocalist Stuart. Butt created WARDANCE with ex FRANTIX bassist Andy Frantic and former BOYS DREAM drummer Matt Keys. Various members of ENGLISH DOGS forged an alliance with erstwhile GBH personnel in 1997 to create SENSA YUMA releasing the 'Every Day's Your Last Day' album on Retch Records. Another ENGLISH DOGS / GBH union resulted in Wakey and Pinch creating THE WERNT with GBH members guitarist Jock Blyth and bassist Ross Lomas for a 1997 album 'Wreckin' Temples'. More prominently, Gizz's sojourn with THE PRODIGY revitalized interest in ENGLISH DOGS prompting a re-release of 'Where Legend Began'. guitarist also announced the formation of a new act JANUS STARK the same year recording with ex-CHARLIE guitarist Terry Thomas acting as producer. 1999's 'I've Got A Gun' was recorded live in Finland at the last ever ENGLISH DOGS show. By 2000 Pinch had joined the DAMNED. Gizz Butt returned in 2004 with THE MORE IS SEE.

A punk band goes metal.......2006-02-23

I first got this on cassette in th 80's around the time it came out. A guitarist/friend of mine got me into it. The album starts out with a guitar groove and the guitar keeps a solid groove through the whole album. There are changes though with very good musicianship for the times when it seemed Metallica dominated the whole scene. There were so many good metal bands in the 80's besides Metallica. The vocals kinda have a crossover feel to them a little bit punk and a little bit metal.I have been looking for this album for a long time, it was so refreshing to hear it again. If you are a crossover fan you should like this little treat but it does lean more on the metal side of things. I had two other albums by them but I like this one best out of the ones I have heard. Check it out!

1 of the better bands out of the dross-filled NMOBHM in the early 80s.

Some great tracks here, plenty of melody and strong songwriting throughout.

Standout tracks - Dark Tower, Jane, Women & Rock

Carl Sentance is/ was a great singer too. Glad this CDs been put out, my ageing copy of the original vinyl has been truly spent!

Excellent album with great new packaging.......2007-06-22

All of these remastered reissues are GREAT! I walked into Best Buy and bought all at once (well, except for Let There Be Rock which I needed to special order) and that $70 happily flew out of my hands. The books that come with each CD are well worth the money themselves. Unlike some booklets like these, they aren't padded with "I love this band", "this album is great" and "this and every other song is amazing historic and will change your life."

Some background about the album, the time period in the band's history, and other behind the scenes info make up most of it including information about the tours and other trivia. Good, meaty stuff.

Powerage in particular is a delight. A far too often overlooked album that many don't even know exists is more consistent that some of of the more popular albums. It has a slightly different sound than the other albums - almost progressive! You won't find radio-friendly hits but this album pulls you in and never lets you go.

Why doesn't this record get the respect it deserves??? No radio play, though it is much better than either 'High Voltage' or 'Dirty Deeds'. Some music guides call it a misstep...or a not ready for prime time record. 'Powerage' is easily one of the band's top five classics and maybe because it isn't as overexposed as the lps that preceeded or came after it is why I love it so much. I do agree that it does represent the end of an era, the last Australian reoorded album and until 1988's "Blow Up Your Video", the last produced by Harry Vanda and George Young. 'Powerage' was the record before Atlantic Records poured more money into the band and demanded a more commercial sound. While history may have proved the corporate bigwigs right, can 'Powerage rock as heavily and memorably as anything AC/DC has put out? Of course it can and the band is running on all cylinders here with new boy Cliff Williams on bass. Some of Bon's best lyrics show up in classics such as "Sin City", one of their alltime greatest and a tribute to Vegas. "Down Payment Blues" and "Rock and Roll Damnation" bemoan the rock n'roll lifestyle (got myself a cadillac, but I can't afford the gasoline....ma's own whippin' boy"). "Up to My Neck in You", "Gone Shootin" and "Kicked in the Teeth" speak of self destructive relationships and dangerous women ('wishin' this neck wasn't mine...two faced woman with your two faced lies"). The brothers Young, who outdid themselves with 'Let There Be Rock', create another monster guitar sound and "Riff Raff" is devastation deluxe and as one magazine called it awhile back..."bonecrushing boogie", perfect! Why are people saying the second half is a letdown? "Neck" and "Teeth" close the record in thunderous fashion. New Wave and Punk were called innovative and significant by the mainstream press (hello Rolling Stone!) but AC/DC was already a tribute to the undying power of rock and near the peak of their powers during the Bon Scott Era....now all they needed was one iconic anthem/album to put them over the top...

An Album With TRUE "Staying Power"!.......2007-03-05

"Powerage" not only captures AC/DC in their prime, but it also showcases some of Angus' catchiest and most complex guitar work (both in his soloing and in his riffs), some of Malcolm's best rhythm guitar duties, and of course, all Bon has to offer, because that's all he ever gives to his fans. While not as popular as other AC/DC classics such as "Highway to Hell" or "Black in Black", it still is probably my third favorite album from the "Thunder from Down-Under." This cd just has IT. I don't know quite exactly what IT is, but IT got me hooked in right away, gave me countless and memorable listening experiences, and still gives me enjoyment to this day. In reality, it's so hard to describe, I don't know where to start.

*************Take the new and fresh gem that is the track "What's Next to the Moon"; the gang-vocals on the last couple of verses, the new and creative tom-beat from Rudd, or the nice, simple riff delivered by our favorite schoolboy. Take the classic "Sin City" (my personal favorite on Powerage), with the creative bass-guitar interlude and simply delicious solo from Angus (my fav on the cd), the live-friendly hits "Riff Raff" or "Rock n Roll Damnation" both containing vintage-AC/DC riffs, catchy chorus', and Angus' trademark solos, or the underrated and memorable "Downpayment Blues" and "Gimme' a Bullet" both amazing songs with creativity and freshness shroudding their glory. And those are only a few of the goods. The WHOLE album is full of nine great rockers, not one of them being bad. In short, "Powerage" is literally a flawless recording, production-wise...in musicianship... in the whole attitide and atmosphere of the cd really.

-So, if you want an album that won't displease you, won't leave you scratching your head in dissapointment (asking yourself where the band went wrong), but that will leave you with appreciative ears and a black-toothed grin on your face, for God's sake get this classic!
