Pop history teaches that posthumous releases generally fall into one of two categories. There's the creep-out, with eerie lyrics that appear to foreshadow the artist's demise (see Michael Hutchence's solo disc). And there's the cash-in: the label or management scrapes the barrel to turn a buck. Luckily, Aaliyah's I Care 4 U is neither. Serving as both a greatest hits collection and a summary of stuff she'd been working on before her death in August 2001, the disc is a keen reminder of just how talented the 22-year-old was as a singer and song stylist. Sure, it's easy to have rhythm aplenty when R. Kelly and Timbaland are guiding you, but Aaliyah's silken phrasings are her own, and her ability to unearth tenderness in even the funkiest jam is a testament to her vision of R&B as musical comfort food. Songs from her three studio albums are well represented. Among them are "I Care 4 U" and "More Than a Woman" from Aaliyah; the title track and "Got to Give It Up" from One in a Million; and "Back and Forth" and "At Your Best" from Age Ain't Nothing but a Number. Of course, the universally praiseworthy brand-new tracks--"Come Over," "All I Need," "Miss You," and "Don't Worry"--are the real goods. An accompanying DVD featuring a handful of videos and behind-the-scenes footage makes I Care 4 U crucial for fans. --Kim Hughes

5 out of 5 stars Great cd/dvd...but be cautious!.......2006-04-30

This is a great cd, although I bought it for the dvd, which contains her music videos. This is definitely a must have for any Aaliyah collector. Definitely worth the money.

However be cautious. I ordered this and it was missing the dvd when I recieved it. The tracklist for it was included, but the dvd was gone. After a bit if digging, I found that there were many others that had the same problem. And there is nothing that Amazon can do about it because it is the product manufacturers fault. So i ordered it again and it included everything. There have also been people who got the dvd, but no cd. So keep this in mind when ordering (even though the chance of this occurring is small.

2 out of 5 stars Just enough for the casual listener.......2006-04-14

Aaliyah's career was cut short due to a fatal plane crash in August 2001. "I care 4 U", released after her death is a mix of new material and old classics. The songs on this disc capture some of her most popular hits such as "Are you that somebody", "One in a million", and "Try again". Beyond the few hits on this disc, the remainder lack depth and creativity.

If you are seeking a light R&B experience, Aaliyah does the trick with her angelic vocals and soulful production (Missy Elliot & Timberland). However, this CD is not one of my favorites in this genre due to its repetitive nature and simply dull non-hit tracks.

Overall this an average listen and nothing more. If you are a fan of Aaliyah this will make a great addition to your collection.

3 out of 5 stars A prelude to "Ultimate Aaliyah" (3.5 stars).......2006-04-11

You have to remember the timeframe to understand the reason for this album. Aaliyah had just passed and the string of incredible hits from her self-titled effort had started to wane. As a result, record execs thought it would be logical to release a half-hit/half-unreleased material to capture Aaliyah's greatest moments and bless them with new music. In theory, this strategy should work. But in practice, it doesn't always receive well and in Aaliyah's case, the response was lukewarm.

One of the biggest reasons for that response was the exclusion of hits. While most of them are here, three huge ones aren't ("If Your Girl Only Knew", "Rock The Boat", and "One I Gave My Heart To") as well as three minor ones ("4 Page Letter", "We Need A Resolution", and "I Don't Wanna"). That's 6 hits that SHOULD have been here, but I guess can't include them all if you are going for that marketing plan.

On the other hand, the unreleased material is very enjoyable. My favorites include: "Miss You" (Aaliyah's farewell anthem), "Come Over" (a sweet, syrupy ballad), and "Got To Give It Up" (remix). I would venture to say this material is BETTER than the album tracks from the self-title release. And that's saying a lot, given Aaliyah made a name off album tracks that should have been singles.

This disc was a quick compilation to accomodate Aaliyah's sudden tragedy. You can tell by its hurried release and exclusion of major hits. But there is some very good unreleased material. Therefore, I will say it's a good disc for die-hard fans, but a casual listener would be better off picking up "Ultimate Aaliyah".

5 out of 5 stars We still Miss You Aaliyah.......2005-07-16

This album is a beautiful tribute to our beautiful baby girl. Fans will recognise some of the best most successful songs from Aaliyah's recording career and also six new and exciting tracks. Aaliyah's voice sounds amazing on every track regardless of the producer. Timbaland clearly emphasised Aaliyah's talent, but on the new tracks Aaliyah still manages to shine even when she is not collaborating with Timbaland. Miss You is very moving and it is clear that we will always remember this fine and respected artist who was a true star long before Beyonce was crazy in love and Ashanti was foolish We love you and we miss you. We care 4 U Aaliyah

4 out of 5 stars Lil Louis & The World "Journey with lonely".......2007-01-27

Straight away the album requires 5 star rate. It comprises of great original (it's early 90's work) deep soulful house sound, more specifically- emotional melodies in abundance, played with still up to date samples and instruments, fat beats and soulful vocals. "Dancing in my sleep" divided into two parts, refers in the former part to Larry Heard's (Mr Fingers) depth, and adds even more r&b heat it the latter. This tune is so great as e.g. Loose Ends "Don't worry" from Tighten up vol.1 or Frankie Knuckles "It's hard sometimes". Next things worth mentioning here are "Share", "Thief" and "Jazzman" which contains some of Lil Louis' vocal performances, that are quite similar to Bootsy Collins' ones:)) "Do U Luv Me", "You're My Reason", "Funny How U Luv" are classics. "Ahhh" like detroit. "New dance beat" - with Master At Work...
All in all its really masterpiece.
Unfortunately to small in duration - only 53 minutes- should have some e.g. remixes or extended versions of "Dancing...".

5 out of 5 stars A House classic definitely!!!! Must have........2006-06-01

I had this CD about 10 years ago and just repurchased it because I'd lost the original some years ago, this is a MUST in any house/dance collection. Awesome blends of house, jazz, and incredible originality. This is one of those few CDs that you can play all the way through and love every song.

5 out of 5 stars Finally found this cd!.......2005-08-20

I have been looking for one song, finally found it on this album and I was so excited to finally find it! But the entire album is great, gets you moving and I have really enjoyed it! It goes with almost everywhere! "Club Lonely and Music Saved My Life" are the two best songs on the cd, but the rest of the cd is terrific as well. So, glad I finally found it on Amazon. If you have something hard to find, go to amazon.com first. It is where I should have begun my search.

5 out of 5 stars Makes Me Proud To Be A Chicagoan!!!,.......2004-10-29

This album is the BOMB! From start to finish you can't help but move your feet! At the risk of sounding like the other reviewers I too must say that this album is nothing short of a masterpiece! Based on my feelings towards the previous album release I bought "Journey With The Lonely" right after its release. To play it 10 years later and have the same feeling now that I had then is a testament to the quality of the project. This album further proves that a dj -- whos primary focus is that of playing records -- can also have a degree of musicianship.

1992 saw a shift in the direction of House music in Chicago: jazz influences. This album lays down the perfect blueprint for anyone who needs a history lesson. "Club Lonely" has to be one of the few tracks in which the album version perfectly compliments the EP. Excellent vocals and a simple, but driving bassline. Then comes the perfect segue "New Dance Beats", continuing in the jazz chords and smooth basslines. "Saved My Life" and "Aahhhh!" are just 100% dance tracks. "Do U Luv Me" is a hypnotic melodic tune that is more subtle in the chords but it still has alot of punch to it. "You're My Reason" and "Dancing In My Sleep" feature wonderful vocals. "Funny How U Luv" is another obvious jass-infusion that moves the soul. Then there's "Thief" and my sleeper track - "Share", which is by far one of the most emotionally tugging songs I know of.

The entire ablum makes me proud to be a Chicagoan!

5 out of 5 stars Off the chain.......2004-06-19

This CD will make you move something on your body no matter how stiff you are. As far as I'm concerned I made a good choice in purchasing this CD even if it is over a decade old. It's just as good if not better than some of the newer releases that I have. A must have for any House music lover, or anybody that just has a love and appreciation for quality sound.

      3 out of 5 stars Doc's Dope Jam.......2003-10-08

Doc Box & B. Fresh showed quite a bit of promise on their debut, and only album Music With a Hard, but, unfortunately, they were never given a chance to pursue that avenue and develop what they were doing. The opening track "Time to Get Smart," which is arugably the albums finest moment, is a fine chunky rap number about black unity. The new jack swing influenced "Slow Love," which is a mix of lethargic styled rap ballads, sexual brag, and very decent arrangements is probably the albums only memorable tune. "Nu Jack," is a Philly-flavored jam, which definatley picks things up right and the following track, "I'm a Survivor," continues to hold the groove right. The interesting "Darlene" has a silly rhythm and an very odd bass track; the jam has a similarly off-center style that's very welcome. Doc Box & B. Fresh seem to have been headed in the direction of DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince than, say, Public Enemy and other political Rap groups. The group had all the potential in the world to break into the mainstream and string off some huge hits, but like most early 90 era groups, Doc Box & B. Fresh were easily forgotten and would be considered one album wonders.

This is a cd that I had when it came out on vinyl back in the days. It's a really hot cd. I'm surprised that it didn't get much more play than it did. The main cut "All about her" is worth the price of the cd alone. Then the hit fast track "scratch my back" can carry it's own weight also. Peace, and hope this swayed your decision if you want a nice cd that was forgotten in the cracks that actually was worth buying.

Unlike a lot of Screw compilations, which are usually nothing more than throwawy tracks... this collection collects a large majority of the H-Town tracks that defined the original Screw subculture. Mixed by the Swishahouse, back in the good old days whenRon C and Mike Watts chopped it up together.

If you are new to slowed music and want to hear what it is about without searching out the true underground, than this is a great start. The mixes are slow and sloppy - just like they used to be. Don't expect great quality - and be aware that sometimes the records will even skip. These are raw mixes - and most people who consider themselves Screw Heads would have it no other way.

Worth it for 'Braids and Fades' alone!

      5 out of 5 stars Excellent CD.......2007-06-02

I first heard of this brother when I dated one of his managers in Lafayette, La. in 2004. I heard all of these songs long before they came out. This CD is awesome and this artist deserves every good thing that happens to him. However, I have heard the "Cupid Shuffle" recently and I must warn you that this CD contains serious and real music. I know this brother did what he had to do for the sake of the industry and surviving, but this CD is for true neo soul lovers. It is not at all what you think it is. I only wish there were samples to listen to. My personal favorites on this CD are "9:00" and "Cherry Pie". Don't sleep on this!!!

        Album Description

Salah infuses the funky sound of urban R&B with the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. His debut CD "Jesus 101" presents a unique balance of Gospel and Soul - a musical blend sure to renew and cultivate his audience's religious beliefs. Inspired by the vocals of Stevie Wonder and Fred Hammond, Salah has earned a prestigious reputation by opening for Rob Base, Biz Markie, Teddy riley and Donnie McClurkin. He was featured on BET's "Rap City" and DC's WPGC 95.5 FM show "1801" hosted by radio personality Michelle Wright. Salah has collaborated artistically with the Newton Twins production team (The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill) and producer Rich Harrison (Beyounce's "Crazy In Love").
