Album Description

This album is dedicated to the men and women of the US Coast Guard in tribute to the lives they have saved and to the service they have rendered their country.

Always Ready is a patriotic Americana compilation of two groups of recordings from the US Coast Guard Band. Selections 1-13 are marching band of field band music. Selections 14-19 are symphonic or concert band music. The broad spectrum allows us to appreciate the versatility and outstanding musicianship of this superb band.

This disc is great for anyone who is a fan of rousing marches and big wind ensemble pieces. Even though the Coast Guard is the smallest of the Armed Forces branches, their band is just as talented and musically diverse as any of the larger branches. The majority of the disc is devoted to familiar Sousa marches and Coast Guard service marches. The last six are wonderfully American wind ensemble selections. I am considering enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard and, as a euphonium player, would love to be a part of a such a fine group of musicians.

This has to be one of the best cd's released in years. It has something for everyone. Even the purest of jazz fans can appreciate this cd. Tom you still have it.

Tom Browne is one of the few trumpet players which can really get into different styles without sounding ridiculous or simply boring (Rick Braun and Chris Botti are the two other). This delivery is a tribute to different artists and songs which are standards : Mtume, Roy ayers, Toni Braxton, Loose ends, but also the British Band "Brand New Heavies", and a Jimi Hendrix tune.

A good album to have in your collection because these are good cover versions, many of them with the right vocals (and not the "pasty" la-la-la-la-la-la-lala you find on many records), and, as said before, Tom Browne playing fine, enjoying and having us enjoy with him.

this album is an amalgamation of an imaginative master who is tom browne. the eccentricity and the power of each composition are out of this world. you have to hear every bit of it and allow yourself to be transported to a different realm. a must have for the connoiseur of pure musical entertainment.
