Classic Dead Kennedys.......2007-07-04
Ok first off I am not interested in all the controversy about the ex band member.
I heard all the BS about them and know full well about their "Rock and Coke" festival in Turkey (Dead Kennedys rock and Coke....please) Though in saying that not much of a fan of post DK Jello churning out LP after LP saying the same boring meaningless rant for the kids (yeh he may go on about the ex band members milking the DK's name for profit but can he realy say he is doing any different with his endless Jello Biafra and the blah blah band albums?)
Anyway, rant over. DK were/are one of my all time favorite band from way back before any tv ad or whatever and this is one of my all time favorite LPs. DK were great because they could mix politics with good music and humour as well. They didnt rant but just took the p*** out of the powers that be. Some of these tracks (such as bleed for me, I am the owl) need to be heard by kids today.
Great to hear, never mind the BS over the ex band members. Leave them to fight it out amongst themselves. Me, I will just keep the memories of a great band.
Re-master this!!.......2007-04-12
Censored for the SUV generation. The original release of "In God We Trust Inc." included the track "Too Drunk to F**k". Dont bother. Look for a used copy of the previous CD release.
"Plastic Surgery Disasters" was not their best release. Jello Biafra's lyrics sound like he was running out of ideas.
Another good DK cd........2007-04-11
Good punk with Jello and some politics. Typical DK, but in a good way.
pardon me for being a "poser" but i think this album is a tad overrated.......2006-07-19
maybe i dont get it or had to be there or something. i mean, maybe im just growing out of this political "shock" punk thing. maybe "nazi punks f**k off" has more of a back story and was a protest anthem that i am unaware of.
anyways, yes, this album is well worth a spot in any DK fan's collection and hits pretty hard and fast at that! there are some great little hardcore political songs on this. i mean, it isn't near as attractive as bad brains or early bad religion, but ill give the boys their credit. they were nice and creative in a political sense around a time when most bands were trying to be another Ramones. make sure you get fresh fruit for rotting veggies first. that is the DK album to own.
p.s. if you get this and want it brand new, dont worry about those "alternative tentacles" nutcases. this band broke up about 20 years ago and people are still raving about how they are "selling out." even so, a band that makes people think about important issues should be noticed by more than the people who already agree with it. so jello isnt profitting like many argue. well unless you buy these cds from jello himself, it is all the same. id rather support the 3 other guys in the band, over some elitist record store owner who will buy beer.
Another classic.......2006-03-09
This is another Dk release,The bass work really stands out on this and all the other instruments are done with perfection ,Pick this up now!

CHRISTIAN ROCK.......2007-05-16
Fans of rock and heavy metal will not be disapointed with the driving beat and heavy guitar solos. Amazing clairity of notes compared to some songs where you are not sure where the guitarist is going.
The best part is the uplifting message you get without being sappy or uncool. Non-Christian rockers may not be use to the name of Jesus being used in a song (interesting how Satan may be mentioned and no one has a problem with that) These are written with God in mind and still kicks out incredible wrifs and sounds made famous during the "glam" age of rock.
This is definatly a "hair" band of the 80's with powerful presents that you can compare to "Poison, Cinderella, and the like". Lead singer hits high notes many will not try. If you like this - you must get the "Soldiers under Command" album which does all this and showcases more dirty guitar with monster layering I would compare to "Metallica"
IF YOU LIKED TO HELL WITH THE DEVIL.....THIS IS PART 2 .......2005-11-29
This album is To Hell With The Devil Part 2. It starts off with a somewhat heavy song and one they have started their concerts with, the title track "In God We Trust." Then it goes right into the first single from the album "Always there for you". "Keep The Fire Buring" is next and has good vocal harmonies on it. It was also released as a single. And of course the ballad "I believe in you" (that really is a good song) is track 4. So far this is layered just like To Hell With The Devil. Opening track followed by three singles released from the band and also in the same order. A melodic song(Always there for you/Calling On You), to a Heavier song(Keep The Fire Burning/Free) and the ballads(I believe In You/Honestly). And of course you have "It's Up 2 You" that is like "Sing Along Song" and they are even both the first song on the second side of the albums!! I am not saying this is bad, not at all. If you like To Hell With The Devil then you are guaranteed to like this one.
Robert Sweet once said this album is about getting people to want to be Christians for the wonders of Heaven and not the fear of Hell. This album does seem "lighter" than To Hell With The Devil" and just because I said the albums sound the same does not mean these songs cannot hold their own. "Keep The Fire Burning" "The World Of You And I" "In God We Trust" "I Believe In You" and even "It's Up 2 You" with it's radio friendly sound is pretty good. The others on here are what you can expect from a Stryper album except maybe "The Reign" which is a very fast song and one some fans really like. I could never really get into it even after several listens.
This Album will not disappoint fans of To Hell With The Devil or any of the previous albums by Stryper. It is nothing new but it remains a favorite of many Stryper fans. "I Believe In You" could actually be the best ballad the band has made. While not as popular as "Honestly" this one is a very underated song from Stryper as it features some of Michaels best vocals on it. Would be great to hear this one live!! This album was also the last one that had straight forward Christian lyrics. The next album was the controversial "Against The Law" that was unfairly received by fans of the band. I have a review of that one if you want to check it out.
Stand Out songs: "In God We Trust" "I Believe In You" "The World Of You And I" and "Keep The Fire Burining"
Sadly Criticized .......2005-10-15
I have been a Stryper Fan since their debut in the early 80's, from their first album "The Yellow and Black Attack" to their latest "Reborn". And I have to say that "In God We Trust" was truly the peak of the band's career. The album is nearly flawless in every aspect. Michael Sweet's incredible vocals shine throughout every song and lyric. The album's hit "Always There For You" was a huge hit on MTV and in my opinion was one of their most inspirational songs to date. If you know Stryper, you will know some of their incredible ballads such as Honestly, All of Me, My Love I will Always Show" and on this album "I Believe In You", which are all unique. Unfortunately, this CD has received some harsh criticism from other viewers. It seems to me that whenever an artist or group ventures into uncharted territory, fans get fickle and overly critical and narrow minded. But I think if you listen with an open mind, you will appreciate the direction and quality of this album, which is unlike any of their other work.
5 stars for Stryper!.......2005-09-05
Stryper did proove itself again with "In God we trust". Excellent tracks of 10 hard rock tunes. Your neck might be sore after you listen to it a couple times in a row. Head bangers get use to it though! There is no profanity in the music which is great for kids that are into the hard rock scene, I saw them back in the late 1980's in a church setting! Although they also played arenas as well!
Single-handedly the greatest album ever made. That's it........2005-03-23
If you haven't heard of the worldwide phenomenon known as STRYPER (an acrostic for SALVATION THROUGH REDEMPTION YIELDING PEACE, ENCOURAGEMENT, and RIGHTEOUSNESS), you must have been hiding in a bomb shelter somewhere during the last two decades. Stryper is, without a doubt, the greatest musical group in the history of mankind. To say anything else would be idiotic and superficial. Composers like Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin, and bands like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and The Who --they don't even come close to the musical genius, originality, and burning fervor of STRYPER. They're merely unoriginal, untalented, imitators of these four gloriously attractive, spandex covered men. "In God We Trust" really shows their true musical genius and their penchant for wearing bumblebee-style spandex.
If you are still reading this review and actually believe me, I not only pity you, I hope that you are hit by a speeding car within 24 hours. (Kidding of course) I know it isn't fair to make fun of an artist because of what they wear, but in this case, IT'S JUST TOO EASY. Go to their website www.stryper.com and look at them. I need not comment more. On top of that, their music....sucks. EXCESS sums them up perfectly. Too much hair, too many cheesy guitar solos, too much pre-pubescent vocal stylings, too many "strypes", too many
SERIOUSLY, NOW. My real criticism of Stryper and most of Christian Contemporary Music (CCM) today is that fact that it markets Christianity like it would market a clothing style or a new product. Christianity is not up for sale, nor should it ever be, regardless if you believe in it or not. It cheapens its value and makes it *less* genuine to the world.
That said, I have to admit that Michael Sweet and the boys of Stryper often make me laugh because they actually think they are legitimately cool.
Happy music hunting. Please, whatever you do, do not take this album, even if you are paid to do it.

In God We Trust.......2006-09-17
Sadat & Jamar held it DOWN for the UNDERGROUND. This record has a little of everything when it comes to topics. Both MC's really out did themselves from beginning to end. All the songs hold your attention and keep your head noddin the whole way through. Easily considered a HIP HOP CLASSIC. Highly recommended!
their best album and their darkest, plus pass the muthaf***in' gat.......2006-02-04
this album came out in 1992,2 years after their 1990 one for all album, this is their first time making a album without grand puba, puba wanted to make a solo album so he came out with his first album reel to reel, which came out the same year, but anyways back to the album, they really stepped their game up lyrical-wise,production wise, etc.and this is the first time you hear them curse on a record,my only concern with this album is that they don't have the video version of Punks Jump Up To Get Beat Down,i like the original which is produced by diamond but i like the remix better, standout tracks are allah u akbar, pass the gat,the godz...,and love me or leave me alone, this is recommended for fans of brand nubian and real hip hop fans,
p.s. if u don't cop this album then remember this,''pumks jump up to get beat down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
The Godz Must Be Crazy.......2005-11-06
After lead man Grand Puba left, it was skeptical that Brand Nubian could do it again. In God We Trust is their sophomore effort that surprised all non-believers of their strength. This album is composed of beliefs, religion, street smarts, upliftment, positivity, lyricism, love, injustice and just raw talent when most rap / hip-hop doesn't contain even partial of the ingredients of this LP. Twelve of the fourteen songs on this album were produced by Brand Nubian themselves as the created a formula that would identify them as a whole. "Allah U Akbar" is more like a praise or acknowledgement of a superior being to begin this album off. "...put your Bible in the attic / cause I didn't come for static..." taken from Sadat X as they profess their beliefs that the black man is the true and living God on "Ain't No Mystery". They take us on a heist and back to the streets on "Pass The Gat". Leading us to the promise land or back to Africa as they navigate us on this trip on the "Black Star Line" featuring Red Foxx. The short and sweet "Allah And Justice" is a song featuring all three members 'singing' a four bar verse each and sharing the last as this song is almost like an up-beat prayer. They prove how they can adapt to any climate on "The Godz..." with lyrics by Sadat X as such "...some days I wake up mad and I don't feel like hearing sh*t, what you are talking to the curb jack, you don't even know me..." If you still didn't believe that they can hold it down missing a member, "Brand Nubian Rock The Set" will prove otherwise. They get a little personal with the relationship tune, "Love Me Or Leave Me Alone" and quickly turn to how after performing they'll "Steal Ya 'Ho". They tackle problems and question the industry of bootleggers on "Steady Bootleggin'". "Black And Blue" is a story about bad black cops that believe they are above the law. Last but not least, "Punks Jump Up To Get Beat Down" produced by Diamond D ended this album off on the note it began and the only thing here missing is the remix to it. Sadat X, Lord Jamar and Sincere offered more than just the sweets, they offered a healthy alternative to what we are used to.
I would rate there First three all 5 Mics.......2005-05-04
Brand Nubian had a nice run of three CD's that are all 5 Mic territory. It is a shame they are not bigger now because the music and the lyrics on this CD are top of the line. From Political to religious to there styles. It's all very good.
Thanx Jamar and Sadat for carrying on the name.......2004-12-23
The Brand Nubian 'movement' could have folded after Grand Puba opted out after their first album(the classic "All For One"). Thankfully, just two years after the debut, Lord Jamar and Sadat X returned, along with DJ Sincere, carrying on the Brand Nubian name and the teachings of the 5% of Islam. Here, you get to know Sadat and Jamar much better, since Puba had so much solo time on the debut album. Sadat X's nasaly, high-pitched voice and fluctuating quick flow is a perfect contrast to Lord Jamar's strong and steady flow. Yes, this album is much darker than "All For One." They do reference guns and physical violence often throughout, and the swearing increases ten-fold. I'm not complaining, just addressing the differences.
This is such are different cd than "All For One," so one listen will not be enough to judge and comprehend. The biggest hits back in its day from this album were "Love Me or Leave Me Alone" and "Punks Jump Up To Get Beat Down," both memorable. There are a couple worthwhile inclusions here, like "Meaning of the 5%," just a recording of a powerful speech on the topic(Farrakan?), and "Allah and Justice," which has just singing and praising. They kick up the intensity on bangers like "Travel Jam" and "Brand Nubian Rock The Set," both pretty good. "Pass The Gat" is an angry jam, one I don't mind too much. "Steal Ya Ho" seemed like just filler to me(they get freaky here), and "Steady Bootleggin'" wasn't too interesting, but at least they try a different topic. "Black Star Line" contains some really solid lyrics from Sadat and Jamar, but Red Foxx's reggae style just goes on and on and on and nearly ruins the song.
"Ain't No Mystery" was easily the strongest song, I thought. Also "Black and Blue" was noteworthy: a dark, telltale track about cop and black-on-black violence. I really liked the music on this one! The other two standouts were "Allah U Akbar" and "The Godz(Must Be Crazy)." The cd is more mellow than "All For One," although some jams were included. I found that pretty much all the tracks had something good about them in their own ways. Brand Nubian began to get very militant about their religious beliefs. I'm wondering if their religion really supports excessive swearing, radical physical violence, smoking ganja, and sleeping with whomever, whenever, like Brand Nubain offers. Oh well, I like this cd a lot and at least they are MC's dedicated to something.
While I didn't miss Grand Puba's presence on "In God We Trust," I will agree that something seemed to be missing in the Brand Nubian vibe and chemistry here. I think that this was a new Brand Nubian, and they still excelled given the circumstances. Hard to say which of them tear it up more, both Sadat and Jamar have their shining moments. This shouldn't be one of the first albums to start your old-school Hiphop collection, but keep your eye out for it every time you go to the store. I had much trouble trying to find this! Definitely a worthwhile listen.

Jello Biafra wasn't the first to realize punk and leftist radicalism were a perfect fit, but he used music as a political tool with far more consistency than any of his contemporaries. The problem is, even 16 years after its original release, the band's second full-length album is incredibly difficult to listen to. "Terminal Preppie" still rings true, even after preppies have grown into yuppies, and "Forest Fire" and "Winnebago Warrior" are powerful if you listen closely enough to decipher the words. One song at a time, the San Francisco quartet's purposefully fast, ugly hardcore is enough to liberate anybody's inner slam-dancer. --Steve Knopper

Customer Reviews:
Don't believe the hype--THIS is the definitive DK collection.......2006-09-30
Why people are so enamored with Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables, I'll never know. It's a great album, for sure--but, for all its intensity, it only hints at the perfection the DK's would reach with Plastic Surgery Disasters and In God We Trust, Inc.. Darren Peligro's drums are the primary difference, catching up with the jazzy sensibility East Bay Ray's guitar always touched upon while kicking the tempo up a few BPM's--just listen to the roll that touches off "Buzzbomb" or the swinging hi-hats on the intro to "Government Flu." Given a bit of leeway by the tighter rhythm section, Ray takes his chance to make his guitar more evocative than it had been (or would ever be), particularly on the surprisingly-poppy "Moon Over Marin" and the jazz-bo "We've Got a Bigger Problem Now." Biafra, whose vocals have always been his make-or-break point, puts together his most solid combination of performance and lyricism on songs like "Forest Fire," "Bleed For Me" (eerily prophetic in the post-9/11/2001 world) and "Religious Vomit."
Frankly, I think most "punks" find Fresh Fruit more appealing because the songs were more sing-along friendly--while that aspect of the DKs' songwriting is still present on this release, Jello Biafra's lyrics are more focused, and he comes into his own more as a vocalist (you can detect a slight Iggy Pop/Jim Morrison influence on Fresh Fruit), becoming unafraid of just outright spitting vitriol over the band's attack. In God We Trust, Inc. is, arguably, the more "hardcore" side, often eschewing melody in favor of speed and emotion; "Moral Majority," for instance, comes across as a delightful, articulate expression of outright disgust that smacks the listener in the face and then runs away.
Future DK releases suffered slightly from over-production (especially the tragically-flawed, criminally-underrated Bedtime For Democracy); Plastic Surgery Disasters is, easily, one of the best-sounding punk albums ever recorded, balancing the sound of Klaus Fluoride's bass and letting Peligro's drums frame the sound without drowning out Ray's guitar. Not to dismiss their debut, but these two albums (or one CD) constitute the pinnacle of the Dead Kennedys' discography.
Diverse, but very hit-and-miss.......2002-11-06
I used to have a rouring approval of this album on this page, but have edited it now I am grown older. It's the sort of album that has some very good tracks on and so makes a good impression on you first listen round. However, after a while you realise that there are a lot of [...] tracks on it [like "Forest Fire" and "Trust your mechanic"] which are previews of the speeches over thrash punk that would dominate the later albums. The last two tracks still move me, despite being somewhat morbid. I'd say it's worth having for a collection, but not for someone who's looking for music to change their life. "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables" is generally thought to be better and I agree there.
Amazing Dead Kennedys album- one of the best.......2001-10-20
Plastic Surgery Disaster and In God we Trust Inc. are truly classic punk albums. The songs are meaningful, intelligent, and sometimes very frightening. But that just sums up DK in general. These guys are undesrcibably awesome, with pounding guitars courtesy of Ray and Klaus, remarkeble drumming, and of course Jello Biafra. He is the ultimate songwriter and his chilling voice fits well with the great punk tunes. 'Buzzbomb from Pasedena' has gotta be my favorite track on this cd, but its hard to choose a favorite with so many great songs. 'Government Flu' has great, head-banging music, 'Terminal Preppy' showcases Jello's songwriting talent, and 'Moral Majority' is just a good-hearted, pleasant little Christian song. They all rock though.
Awesome!!.......2001-10-09
I'm gonna tackle this from a different angle.
In my opinion 'In God we Trust' is the greatest piece of Punk Vinyl ever.
I got this the day it came out and 20 years later it is still awesome and nothing comes close. Add on 'Plastic Surgery.......' and you have one hell of a CD.
Remember though, get the Alternative Tentacles version, not the money-grabbing re-issues.
Get this is you like green day.......2001-08-25
Apparently, your taste in music has to be askew to even go near these guys. Especially on this cd. The productions weird, but I love it. The lyrics are simply amazing. Everything from government conspiracies (Government Flu) to think about what you're really doing when you want anarchy (Riot), and to the hillarious (Forest Fire). Ray's guitar is so eerie, it somehow sadly beautiful. From that statement, you know I have no vocabulary. But my favorite is the bass. The lines get stuck in your head all day and you'll drive people crazy humming them. And you also get the In God We Trust, Inc. 12" ep free! Of all the cd's I have, this has to be my all-time favorite one. Order it now! If you don't like it, go sell it to zia's or something. What do I care.

This is the way ,I think, Purcell should sound. No pomp and surcomstance but only great music.
ALL THE MUSIC YOU EVER NEED!!.......2003-05-23
This boxed set is by far one of the best purchases I have ever made. As a Purcell freak, this hits every button I have. The cast of characters include the inequitable Robert King, New College Choir, Bowman, and a host of other venerable persons. Likewise the attention to period performance of these works makes it an essential addition to the library of any serious anglophile/Musicologist etc. Now if only the Britten Realizations of all Purcell's songs could be recorded alongside the originals! You will Love this set!
