Customer Review: un des meilleurs Le premier album dessiné par Lambil restera l'un des meilleurs,non à cause des dessins,(un poil plus réaliste que ceux de Salverus) mais grace au scénario , à ses gag et à la qualité des dialogues.

Missing.......2006-08-21
I love this album but the very song I bought it for is missing. The song Hurry, hurry is mislabeled and is half of one of the other songs on the album. The tag information of the tracks are incorrect. It was recorded from a LP, you can hear the scratches and pops if you listen carefully. The audio quality is poor. I could have done a better job myself.
I suppose it's better than nothing!!!.......2005-04-27
I agree with the previous reviewer in that "Love Potion" by New Birth (w/all the nekked peoples on the cover) certainly ranks among this band's most misunderstood recordings. It was in fact, their last good album.
Unfortunately, this CD, while retaining the original's cover art and having decent liner notes, still "ain't the one". The sound quality is vintage Eastern Europe, that is to say, no remastering machines were injured in the making of this CD. As a result, the sound quality is not up to high standards, but hey, it is better than the import "God's Children" disc which definately should be avoided at all costs!!! Yes, it is missing a track -- "Hurry Hurry", and while I didn't like this song on the the LP either, it IS THE PRINCIPLE of it all.
Although it's been a while, I can tell you with 100% confidence that the song "God's Children" is not the original. (This disturbed me more than "Hurry Hurry" missing from the disc).
I recommend this disc if for no other reason than it being the only version of this album available. The 3 star rating is mostly for the packaging!
Maybe Warner Bros will get off the stick and do this reissue proud.....yeah right!
Poor sound quality and missing track on this reissue........2005-04-01
"Love Potion," for me at least, ranks among New Birth's finest recordings. Unfortunately, this reissue, while retaining the original's cover art and sporting insightful notes on the recording, should be avoided in favor of the original LP (if you can find it) for 4 reasons:
1 - it's missing a track ("Hurry Hurry");
2 - the tracks that are there are featured in the incorrect running order;
3 - the sound quality is really poor - one would be better served by ripping their vinyl onto CD-r with the aid of any basic sound editing program;
4 - "We Are All God's Children," a beautiful 7-minute epic on the original LP, is split into 2 parts!
An extremely disappointing reissue.

A FUN BALLET WITH QUITE A HISTORY!.......2000-01-30
It can be said that La Sylphide (Sylfiden as the Danes call it, was premiered by the Royal Danish Ballet in 1836), composed by Herman Severin Lovenskiold and choreographed by Bournonville, is the earliest piece of ballet music from the Romantic period that has been recorded. However, an ealier version of the same ballet by a different composer (Schneitzhoeffer)--no recordings--and choreographer has been revived by the Paris Ballet (Who knows how faithful it is to the original!). La Sylphide is a story about a female spirit, called the Sylphide, who falls in love with a young man; he too falls in love with her. But the little courtship is to be cut short by a witch. The fairy tale ends with the death of the Sylphide. The star ballerina of the first version of La Sylphide was Marie Taglioni, who was forever associated with the beginning of the Romantic ballet. Now we come to the version recorded on this CD. First, a little history. After the Danish choreographer, August Bournonville, saw Marie Taglioni dance in the role of the Sylphide at the Paris Opera, he wanted to stage his own production of the ballet. But first, he had to purchase the rights for using the score (by Schneitzhoeffer), but to his disappointment, it was too expensive. Consequently, he decided to have entirely new music written. And the man to accomplish this was Lovenskiold. So successful was this second version that the complete Bournonville choreography along with Lovenskiold's score are still used today by the Royal Danish Ballet. This is a superb "complete" performance by the Danish Radio Sinfoniette. The sound is clear and rich! Damgaard who has been the chief conductor at the Royal Danish Theatre since 1990 conducts beautifully. Under his baton, the orchestra makes the music sound alive and poignant. For those who are interested in ballets or just a great fairy tale, I highly recommend they get this CD. The only alternative recording is the one on Chandos, performed by the Royal Danish Orchestra (conducted by Garforth). It is also excellently performed (Read my review for that recording!). That CD contains an extra number (a pas de deux, which is not ever played as part of the complete ballet), which is a delight to hear! The CPO version, however, contains James' Act 1 solo, which is not in the Chandos recording. If you're a completist, get both!
Excellent recording of Lovenskiold 's Ballet.......1999-10-26
It is a beatiful recording of the first romantic ballet, who has a precursor on Taglioni's Sylphide (which can be appreciate on video recording by Ghislene Thesmar interpretation with the corps of Opera Paris Ballet, music by Scheneihoffer,available at amazon.com). The perfomance of Lovenskiold partiture by the Danish Radio Simfonieta conducted by Daamgaardt is perfect, without affectation and it reach the maximum climax on second act. I bought this record because I listen on the radio the overture and the introduction of the first act, which inmediately decided me to find out and bought this version. There is only a criticism to the booknote which is included on the CD. Taglioni 's Sylphide has been succesfull performed in our century, on the seventies by a reconstruction taken on by Pierre Lacotte and interpreted by Ghislaine Thesmar. Teatro Colon

Customer Review:
A lire absolument !

Come, Lily anytime!.......2000-06-10
The reason why compilations are so popular today is that many band's CDs sound much the same from song to song. Not so with this group! Every song is unique and can stand on it's own though as a total add up to make a wonderfully complex and juicy recording. There is an amazing undulating saxophone throughout most of the work with a few different vocalists weaving their textures and spoken elements among a rockin' rhythm section and a nice textural guitar sound. This band is like all of the best art from the Renaissance...a little of this, a little of that....just breathtaking.
Excellent mix of.......1999-12-02
sounds with voices and saxophone. The rhythm section is pumping! Great work! It ventures into a couple of different areas from ethereal and swooning to hard-hitting power. I like that it's eclectic and not just one style like so much music I hear lately. These folks know how to blend in a lot of styles to make one rockin disc!
Jazzy, bluesy, and soulful with sexy rhythms.......1999-11-10
Come, Lily's self-titled collection of songs contains the strangely erotic tune "Sexcess" and branches out into more jazzy, soulful songs. All the songs are remarkably bluesy, with one track "Rainy Day Women" (a retake on the Bob Dylan hit from 1966) sounding like a wonderfully smoothed-out Joplin tune, be it Scott or Janis. "Jungle Lily" possesses a rythmically-catchy rhythm and will have you snapping your fingers to its twangy beat. The whole disc has a great sound to it, and deserves repeat listenings. May Come, Lily have all the 'sexcess' they deserve in the future. --D. Mangano "Gateway" Univ. of Nebraska
Rocking AND Sexy... a la' Roxy Music later era.......1999-10-22
Faces, who needs faces? This band is about their music. I love the music...it's ethereal and strong, hard-hitting and raw, sweet and seductive. Oh, that saxophone and those voices!
