2 out of 5 stars Sounds too fake for TOP. Very Uninspiring.......2003-10-24

I know Tower of Power can put out better albums than this. The first track, Rock Baby, would make me feel embarassed if someone caught me listening to it. Not a good way to start off the album, but the tracks due get progressively better towards the end. My favorite tracks are Nowhere to Run and Just Make a Move (And Be Yourself). These two at least have some energy to them and save the album from a one star rating. Overall I think the album was overproduced and sounds too comercial and fake, but it has its moments.

1 out of 5 stars Oh My God.......2001-12-05

this is the only album I've ever heard that has left me physically, mentally, and emotionally injured. I plead with you, avoid this album at all costs! Stick to TOPs Warner Brothers output or their 90s stuff, just stay away from this!!!

2 out of 5 stars Arguably Tower Of Power's Worst Album.......2001-06-03

If you love Tower Of Power, as I do, you should pick this up for the 4 good songs: "Rock Baby", "And You Know It", "It Takes Two (To Make It Happen)" and "Just Make A Move (And Be Yourself)". After these 4 songs, the rest is fairly awful. Michael Jeffries, the vocalist on this album, does a splendid job as the latest in a revolving door of lead singers for the group.

2 out of 5 stars Break out the polyester!.......1999-11-13

Oh man. Say it ain't so. Thank goodness this wasn't the first album of theirs I checked out. I would have written it off as another insipid "let's hire some horns to back up our bubble gum groove" effort so prevalent in music of the lte 70's. This stuff definitely has a disco flavor, with the cheesy additions of strings. It is gathering dust in my CD rack.

4 out of 5 stars awesome horn section with gritty vocals.......1999-01-14

By far this group epitomises the great Bay area funk scene of the 70's. With Cold Blood, Mandrill, and the Doobies, Tower of Power added to Santana's dominance of funk, soul, blues and rock fusion groups that will never be matched.

4 out of 5 stars The only Iris you need own........2005-09-13

Okay so if you're trying to gap fill your album collection and you want good eighties new wave/punk this would be "the" one Iris CD to buy. "Why?" You say. Because A) it has Ah Leah (one of the many "anthems" of the day and an incredible sing/yell along song. If you know the title you most likely have a good memory attached to it as well. As for the rest? I think it important to note the editing/arrangement of songs is excellent and if you are out to hunt for hits alone, you will lose the flow by chosing the best hits/masters CD's. The Cd as a whole will give you a better "feel" of the music at time of release. B) Agnes is a great song and again, great to release some energy whilst singing along. "I can't hear you" has a chorus you will find yourself singing to to your kids and laughing.
All in all a fun and nice sounding set of songs. If you are looking for incredible instrument work or deep and poetically intense lyrics then look elsewhere. This is about fun, singing along, and raising your energy a bit. Just for fun play Red Riders "Lunatic Fringe" right after Leah. Enjoy !!!

3 out of 5 stars Ah! Donnie Iris!.......2004-10-05

This is the Donnie Iris album that has "Ah Leah!" on it. Problem is, it was pretty rocky after that. Iris and partner Marc Avsec played everything on this album, and it comes off a bit too stiff. Also, there is too much going on here to make Iris sound like he was doing much else other than chasing styles. Aside from "Agnes" and "I Can't Hear You," there is little here that sounds like an artist defining himself. (Nonsense like "Joking/Shock Treatment" don't help his case, either.) Besides, after this, Iris put together the Cruisers and cut the far superior "King Cool." Since the three best songs on "Back On The Streets" are on the "20th Century Masters" set, you can steer yourself in that direction rather than pay for the over-priced used copies.

4 out of 5 stars Amazing album.......2003-03-19

This album is outdone only by the next album 'King Cool' and that takes quite some doing to out do this album but 'King Cool' is in my top 5 of all time. 'Back on the Streets is easily in the top 15.

It was 'Love is like a rock' that converted me into a die hard Donnie Iris fan, of course that song is on the next album, but Ah leah played a major part to.

Id say the 3 weakest songs on this album(I can't hear you, Back on the streets, and Daddy don't live here) are still better then average meaning the other 7 are great. the 2 that stand out for me are 'She's so wild' and 'You're only dreaming' but only slightly over Agness, Ah Leah, Shock Treatment, and Too Young to love. Joking is another very good song but not quite up there with previousely mentioned. No fillers at all.

5 out of 5 stars Undiscovered Gem- what a great album- front to back........2003-01-01

"Ah! Leah!" is the song that got my attention. At a time when REO speedwagon seemed to dominate the airwaves, this HUGE rockin' power ballad stood out as something unique.
"I Can't Hear You," "Joking," and "Shock Treatment" are lyrically brilliant- (although at times very eighties).
"Back on the Streets," is a Springsteen-esque ballad that is as good as or better than any Springsteen epic.
"Agnes," is a great "story" that builds as it goes- unforgettable.
"You're Only Dreaming," "She's So Wild (amazing rocker)," and "Daddy Don't Live Here Anymore" revisits some ot the quirkiness and silliness of trackes 2,3, and 4.
"Too Young to Love," just hurts when you listen to it.
Iris has tapped into the very ache of love and desire on a lot of this album and it leaves you with an unforgettable experience. Kick back and listen to all of this at once. You won't regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Memories.......2001-08-15

This albumn brings back those memories of college in the early 80's. This CD is great from start to finish. A must buy for any Donnie Iris fan. The problem is that there are no longer albumns, only CD's. There are still some Donnie Iris albums that need to be made into CD's.

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST MELODIC PUNK ALBUM EVER MADE.......2004-01-04

Folks, it doesn't get much better than this. Simply put, 88 Fingers Louie was one of the finest bands in the genre, and this is clearly their best work. This album covers all the bases, giving you hardcore songs like "State" and "Worst Man Won", pop-punk tunes like "Summer Photos" and "Joyboy", and straight melodic punk with "Two-Faced Bastard" and "Admission". This is by far my favorite 88FL record, and without a doubt, one of the best albums in my collection. Unfortunately, this was 88 Fingers Louie's final full length album, but you can find its former members in bands such as Rise Against, Undercast, and Break the Silence. Well, I guess that just about sums up my review, so go out and get this album!

    5 out of 5 stars Unbelievable album.......2003-12-13

This album is one of the top punk albums of all time. I loved it when it first came out, but even 5 years after the fact this album continues to absolutely rock. The drumming is absolutely jaw dropping, and the tone Mr. Precision got out of his guitar on this album is amazing. Every song rocks.

    5 out of 5 stars A hell of a going away present.......2000-12-13

88 Fingers Louie are...or I suppose were, Back on the Streets. Yes, while one of the greatest hardcore bands of all time has once again broken up, they leave with a awesome last album. In the time since they last broke up, they haven't lost their edge at all! The songs are a little more melodic, but not to the point where they're [sappy]. This is as good, if not better than any of their previous albums, I would definately reccommend it if you're a fan, and if you aren't, get it anyway. This is the best hardcore to come out in a long time, and probably will stay that way for a while.

    5 out of 5 stars mmm hmmm.......2000-09-25

very original. i'm not going to compare these guys to any other band, simply because there are no other bands like 88 fingers louie. the lyrics will blow you away. (since you're already online, why don't you search for this album's lyrics?) the music's awesome. the whole album's great. and i mean the whole album.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Album!!.......1999-07-15

88 Fingers Louie did a Great job with this album!! It's easily as good as "behind Bars" A great Cd to pick up whether your a fan, or just like punk music.

5 out of 5 stars Absolute Rock Masterpiece!!! But....$80?!?!?! Go find a used album!.......2007-07-26

While I like both the blues and metal I've always preferred Gary the straight ahead rocker to Gary the bluesman or Gary the late-80s metalhead. So this and "Dirty Fingers" remain my 2 favorite Gary Moore Albums to this day. I had just about worn the album out so was very excited to come across an import CD 12-15 years ago. It was $25 but I was happy to pay it!! But $80?!?!?! Don't know about that, this thing must be really rare these days, though I have occasionally seen other copies in stores for the usual $15-$30 that imports go for. But I will say this; if you are a Gary Moore fan at all, and you don't already have this, your collection is incomplete.

I've always considered this and Dirty Fingers to be almost companion pieces that wouldn't have been out of place as a double album. Released less than a year apart (both have the original release date as 1978) Fingers has the straight ahead AOR rock songs while Streets has the "lets show what we can really do" rock instrumentals that will be familiar to anyone who has heard his work with the GREATLY underappreciated Coliseum II. My personal favorite is the magnificent "Flight of the Snow Moose" but "Hurricane" and "What Would You Rather Bee" would both make any Jeff Beck fan stand up and pay attention.

It also contains the original release of "Parisienne Walkways" and, with all due respect to the late great Phil Lynott, the greatest version of "Don't believe a Word" that has ever been released. In fact, it was after this that Phil had Thin Lizzy begin playing that song as a blues tune in their set. But...herein lies an almost insignificant, but at the same time great, mystery!!! On my original album, after the last vocal "Don't believe a word...not a single word" Gary very softly says "I might just say anything I want to" right before the guitar jam. On the CD......IT's NOT THERE!!! I never would have imagined such a small change could so drastically change a song and can't fathom why anyone would mix it out!!! But, I guess if you'd never heard the album, you'd never even know what was missing!!

Other (vocal) tracks include the title track, Song for Donna and another Lynott penned song; "Fanatical Fascists". And they kind of offset the missing line in "Word" by adding a bonus track "Spanish Guitar" that wasn't on the original album. So......if you like Gary, try to find this!!! If you're filthy rich, pay $80 for it!! Either way it's definitely one of Gary's finest moments!!!

4 out of 5 stars Very Old School Dokken.......2006-11-27

If you only know Dokken from their slick, 80's hair metal heyday, this 1979 (yes, 1979) EP should prove to be quite enlightening.

Back in the Streets contains early recordings and live performances from the band prior to their debut album Breaking the Chains. The songs on this EP are about as far removed from the band's later albums as possible. This is a pure hard rock band - Dokken prior to the hair metal scene's explosion. I happen to think Dokken's best albums came from that era, but it is still fascinating to hear the band back when they were influenced more by Y&T and early Aerosmith than Motley Crue. In addition to 4 studio tracks, Back in the Streets offers 2 live songs, one of which (Prisoner) bears little to no resemblance to the later Dokken song of the same name.

It may not be the Dokken you're used to, but it is still well worth checking out, especially if you're a serious Dokken fan.

NOTE: Despite what the previous reviewer has stated, George Lynch was the guitarist for these songs. He's even credited on the back of the album with helping write the songs.

2 out of 5 stars Not a bad Demo but some of you have incorrect information!.......2006-09-02

To the reviewers who praise George Lynch's solos on this demo... Did you know that's not George???

Don is the only member of Dokken on this album that went on to actually be in Dokken when they did Breaking The Chains.

Don't believe me? Look it up on dokken.net

5 out of 5 stars Great EP! Wish there was more songs!!!.......2005-09-11

This EP is a demo from 1979 that was stolen from Don Dokken and released. There are some great songs here which is why I wish that Don Dokken could get the rights to this and remaster and release because these songs are excellent.

1.Back In The Streets- 10/10 Great title track. Excellent riff. The guitar tone is great aswell. Of course Don Dokken's vocals are excellent too. A great solo by George Lynch too as George throws in an Eddie Van Halen type solo(short solo with a some shredding and a lot of dives) But he doesn't sound like a clone. George's second solo is very similar too. But anyway this upbeat opener would fit perfectly in a Dokken concert now.

2.Felony- 10/10 Great song with some cool lyrics and a cool crunchy riff. Of course Don is great here. George's solo here is great now more Randy Rhoads influenced on this song. Another short song too.

3.Day After Day- 8/10 A pretty good ballad. Although it sounds very dated it's still a good song. However it's not up to par with the first 2 songs. A very good solo by George Lynch again although this one is slower and fits the mood of the song. Although it sounds dated Don Dokken's vocals still sound very good on it.

4.We're Going Wrong- 10/10 A great catchy song here. This could have easily been a radio hit and George's solo is excellent as always.

5.Liar(Live)- 10/10 A great high energy live track performed perfectly. This sounds like it could have been a big hit and George's blazing solo is amazing again and Don Dokken throws in some great screams too. Don also shows off his vocal power at the end with a 13 second note hold

6.Prisoner(Live)- 10/10 A great change here with a slow rock song. This also has George Lynch's best solo on the whole EP as George gets over a minute and a half to shred! Don throws in another great vocal performance on this track with some more screams at the end of the song.

This is a must for every Dokken fan. [...]

3 out of 5 stars Interesting piece of heavy metal history............2002-08-02

First of all, this album was NOT recorded in 1989. It was a demo that was recorded before their 1st full release. You can hear the talent and the song-writing potential here, but the band is still pretty undeveloped at this point so this couldn't fairly be comprared with anything they released on WEA or later.

There are some good songs on this - "Prisoner" is my favorite. "Prisoner" shows up much later on their "Back for the Attack" CD, but this obviously was reworked extensively by that time. This is also the case with "Felony". The re-working was a good idea because the later versions of these songs are far superior to anything here.

The production is actually pretty decent for a demo. All songs can qualifiably be said to be recorded in Hi-Fidelity.

'Not a bad listen, but this is one of those 'for fans only' records.

        5 out of 5 stars D O K K E N ! ----> My favorite Heavy Metal band........2000-07-12

Definitely my favorite of all Heavy Metal bands I have ever heard. I've heard almost all of their albums, and I keep coming down looking for more, the magical blend of Don Dokken's voice, Pilson, crazy Mick and the guitar magician George Lynch is just fantastic. Try out their Tooth 'n Nail, Beast from the East or the one and only BACK FOR THE ATTACK ! , no words, just pleasure.
