Customer Reviews:
If you can only buy one Smalltown Poets CD, buy this one!.......2007-02-11
I have been a Smalltown Poets fan for many years, and this is the album that I go back to when I need a quick SP fix. Their self-titled debut and Third Verse are great albums, but Listen Closely is far and away my favorite. Listen Closely sublimely showcases the strength of Michael Johnston's writing and the musical improvements the band has made since its debut. I love the song "Hold It Up to the Light"; Johnston's upper register is beautiful match for the vulnerability of the lyrics and melody of this track. "Call Me Christian" is a wonderful statement of faith and the Gin Blossoms' vibe of the song will definitely have you singing along. Don't miss the album's closing song. "One of These Days" is a simple and eloquent take on our longing for heaven and it closes the CD perfectly. Please give Listen Closely a spin; you will not be disappointed.
Absolute Best CD in my collection!.......2003-02-13
This CD is amazing. Every song on this album is great. It's not just one good song and then 10 other lousy songs. Right up to the last track, every minute is inspiring and energizing. There's a hidden track in the middle where a small child sings the refrain of "Jesus loves me". It is a reminder to us all to remain child-like in our exploration of the world. Peace!
I love it!!.......2002-01-07
Listen Closely is a great CD with a great message. In my opinion, the best two songs on it are 48 states and hold it up to the light.
Another gem from Smalltown Poets.......2000-11-26
"Listen Closely" follows the Smalltown Poets debut album closely in in so many ways. Not only did it come out a little over a year later, it also sounds much like the first CD stylisticly.
"Call Me Christian" sets the tone for the album much like "Prophet, Priest, and King" did for the debut CD. Other strong songs on "Listen Closely" include "Anything Genuine," "Gloria," and "Hold it up to The Light" (just to name three).
For those of you who know a little music trivia, "Call Me Christian" has been released before from a little known band named Villanelle. In fact, if you ever get your hands on Villanelle's "Orange Peels and Pinwheels" CD, check and see how many members of that band found their way into Smalltown Poets. You may also notice that Villanelle associated closely with The Waiting on their "Blue Belly Sky" project (check on the back of the CD flyer where it says, "Much Love and Gratitude").
Okay, let's get back on the subject here. I, for one, am glad to see the Smalltown Poets continue to release music. They are definitely one of the best pop/rock bands around right now.
Anything Genuine.......2000-10-10
This CD was so good! I had never really heard of Smalltown Poets until my brother bought one of those CD mixes with _48 States_ on it. After that, we just had to have the new album! These songs contain great messages that just inspire you to be all-out and genuine for Christ!

Inspirational.......2005-05-26
The reason I give this album 5 stars is because the lyrics are from the heart of a young woman who has a testimony. She has lived the life of her music and expresses it from the heart, not fiction. She can sing and rap! All talent from God is good talent. Though not commercially perfect, I prefer the realness of music over mainstream anyday. Ayeesha is definitely underated. The first time I heard this cd I became a born again christian at 25 years old. 4 years later I still love listening to her cd. God bless you for making such a wonderful inspirational cd!
Something worth rappin about.......2001-08-18
Ayeesha came forth wit-it. Baby girl hit some heavy topics, such as, suicide, domestic violence, depression related to bad situations, child abuse as noted on tract 12, "Dear God", and making moral decisions. Girl friend can sing and rhyme, and with God, making her the tripple threat package. You can hear her influences of 2Pac, like with the song, "Roses"., dedicated to her "Mama". And you can hear a little Missy in Ayeesha's vibe also. I appreciated Ayeesha's Boldness as noted in the title tract "listen Closely". She's "Readin" somebody...She did'nt hessitate to minister and share her faith with us . And that, along with the boldness is what cought my attention with this artist. It's a good album alternitive for the teen and pre-teen youth if you wanna give them a break from the shallow pop that's bumbarding our kids tempanic membranes...
A Tight CD........1999-08-11
T LOVE- THIS IS A VERY GOOD CD FOR ANY COLLECTIONS. ANYONE CAN RELATE TO WHAT AYEESHA IS RAPPING ABOUT. THANKS YOU AYEESHA FOR GIVING ME SOMETHING I CAN THUMP AND PRAISE GOD TO ALL AT THE SAME TIME.

King Black Acid - 'Royal Subjects' (Cavity Search).......2006-08-20
Looks to be the Portland band's second effort.I think I like this release as much as I did their 'Womb Star Sessions' CD(see my review).Simply more of KBA'S trademark 'inventive space rock' they seemed have semi-mastered.Best cuts here are "60 Cycles Numb","Call Me On The Headphones" and the fifteen-minute epic title track "Royal Subjects".Could swear I heard a didgeridoo and a violin in there. If you dig this genre, you might want to hunt down a copy of this disc.Worth many repeated plays.
Amazing.......1999-09-23
It's an amazing cd, in fact all of them are. It's like getting high without taking drugs like good music should be. Highly recommended
King Black Acid....Smooth and Tight.......1998-08-06
I was first introduced to the melodious sounds of King Black Acid while visiting Portland, Oregon in 1997....I had strolled into a small record shop to browse the local band albums, asking the shop owner for something in the way of harmonious, selflessly indulgent phsycadelia and he handed me this album...Listening to the first song, I must say, almost turned me off, but after listening to the rest of it in one sitting, I was hooked...beautifully lyrical, instumentaly persuasive and inert, this album deserves an audience...The highlights, the sweetly rendered "Only Wine Will tell", and the kinetic "14,000 Member Acid Army", will pull you in straight away...buy it...you won't be disappointed...and strap on those big puffy headphones, light a candle, close your eyes and listen to sounds of a bright and wonderful album.

Album Description
Now based in Milwaukee, Mary Karlzen has just released her latest album, "Dim The Watershed".
A long time South Florida area favorite, Karlzen is extremely proud of the new album, which she co-produced with Fred Freeman and Mark Bryan (guitarist for Hootie and The Blowfish). With her unique blend of folk, rock and pop combined with her signature vocal and songwriting style, Mary has crafted the finest work of her career!
The album was recently released on South Florida indie; Y&T Music and is now available at Amazon.com. ///
Customer Reviews:
Great album!.......2003-10-28
Mary Karlzen is another one of the relatively unknown musical artists that would have been commercially succesful in the '70s before the pop-culture descended into the putrid mockery of music that it is today. Mary is a gifted songwriter and singer, and Dim the Watershed is fantastic, even better than her previous effort Yelling at Mary. Every song here is strong and moving. Especially Time, Pictures of You and Wonderland. Songs like these reveal how impressive her writing talents really are. A treasure amongst the corporate crap that floods the market these days. If you like Patty Griffin you'll like Mary Karlzen. If you're unfamiliar with both, you're really missing out on some truly great rock music of the singer/songwriter genre.
