Born and raised in Oakland, CA, she recently relocated to Atlanta and has quickly built buzz around her forthcoming debut project, "Salakida". Only when you are in the mood for something new and refreshing... I'm definitely diggin' the style,and the lyrics and the vocal talents of Salakida. My favorite song has to be "Diamond in the Rough". I love all the different elements added to make this song. Despite not being able to pronounce her name correctly I still tell everybody about this particular CD. I saw her live and I knew I had to buy it. She reflected my mood. Soft, gentle, soulful and genuine.

FINALLY a young person who combines 'old school' DEEP lyrics with 'new school' melodies! There are a couple of songs on this CD that keep running in my head. Salakida's voice seems like a cross between Toni Braxton and Carole King. I know that sounds impossible but you have to check it out. My favorite cuts are "Paid Vacation" and "I'll Be Waiting". I especially like how the lyrics on the sparse acoustic Paid Vacation describe that sometimes you can ONLY take a "paid vacation" in your MIND because you may not be in a position to take a real vacation. There is another song "Everybody Lies" I like because its haunting production quality. Deep and uplifting! Get it...
