Album Description

Motown Records reteams with Lions' Gate and groundbreaking director/actor/playwright Tyler Perry to release the soundtrack for his new movie, Madea's Family Reunion. Tyler Perry executive-produced the soundtrack, assuring that every song on the disc appears in the movie. The soundtrack features a sultry new single from Brian McKnight, "Find Myself in You," as well as 9 other new songs from talented artists such as LL Cool J featuring Mary Mary ("We're Gonna Make It"), Chaka Khan ("Keep Your Head Up"), Johnny Gill ("You for Me--The Wedding Song"), KEM ("Tonight"), and a rousing all-star ensemble comprised of Chaka Khan, Gerald Levert, Yolanda Adams, and Carl Thomas on "Everyday (Family Reunion)." Perry also tapped into soul classic favorites like Al Green's "Love and Happiness" and the O'Jays' "Family Reunion" to round out the soundtrack.

The movie revolves around the 68-year old southern matriarch Mabel Simmons ("Madea") (played by Perry). Madea's Family Reunion finds her using every tactic in her arsenal to keep the peace and hold her family together for a reunion. The all-star cast includes Blair Underwood, Lynn Whitfield, Boris Kodjoe, Henry Simmons, Maya Angelou, Rochelle Ayers, Jenifer Lewis, Cicely Tyson and many other familiar faces.

Last year, Perry took the entertainment industry by storm with the release of his #1 box-office hit Diary of a Mad Black Woman, which garnered over $22 million in its opening weekend.

The movie was awesome!! After hearing all the great music in the movie I had to have the soundtrack. Brian McKnight's Find Myself In You, just melts my heart as well as KEM's Tonight...Each song finds a way of making me feel good and dancin :)

Still relevant to this day........2007-05-15

Thanks to such anthems as the title track, "She's Only A Woman" and the perenially-popular title track this album became one of 1975's most important R&B albums. It was also the last O'Jays album to feature the original MFSB lineup and is a true masterpiece of '70s R&B. Classic Philly Soul at its best.

Can't Go Wrong!.......2006-08-11

I purchased several copies of this CD to give away as prizes at my Family Reunion. It was a big "hit"! Of course, I kept a copy for myself. I love the song "Family Reunion". I listen to it over and over. Play this song at your family reunion to set the mood.

D.C.'s Soul Brother #1.......2006-07-09

All I really have to say about this album is, DAMN!! I can't seem to understand why todays artist don't make albums like this anymore. Eddie Levert's voice blows you away and Walter William and William Powell's voices are so mesmerizing. This was the last album with the vocals of Powell's before his life was succumbed by cancer, RIP. This is why ol school music is far superior to the music of today's lame watered down artist of my generation. You can listen to this whole album straight through, and thats not because there are ony seven songs but because the songs are so fantastic. My favorite has to be "I Love Music" because of the sheer energy from the boys of MFSB (God bless them all) and the trio's powerful soaring vocals. Sometimes when I want to just relax I put this album on and it takes me back to 1975 which also was a year that Gamble&Huff released great albums by Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes, Billy Paul, Three Degrees, and Peoples Choice. This was during a time that Philadelphia International were so hot they were releasing two albums a year (the O'Jays Survival in early 1975). Although the whole album is flawless they seemed to have saved the second half for last, with the last three songs originally on side two. You cannot call yourself a true ol'school player without it, so go cop this one quick.

Oh yeah..........2005-06-11

My dad used to play this album on 8-track back in '75 ALL the time.When he wasn't playing this tape he was playing "Ship Ahoy","Survival" or "Backstabbers".In short,he was a fan of the Gamble & Huff + O'Jays sound.He also played Harold Melvin & Teddy (before he went solo in '77,that's where my mom stepped in).This album gets the slight nod because six of the seven songs (the title cut and beyond) sound really good.Sure,after three albums "Family Reunion" says nothing new.It just sounds good.Take that back,it sounds damn good!

P.S. "Stairway To Heaven" is among G&H/The O'Jays' best. (No,It's not the Led Zep song)

THE O JAYS HAVE BEEN MY FAVORITE MALE GROUP FOR A LONG TIME.THE FIRST SONG I REMEMBER BY THEM IS LONELY DRIFTER.I DO NOT REMEMBER THE YEAR IT CAME OUT, BUT I KNEW THEN THE OJAYS WOULD BE AROUND FOR ALONG TIME. THE OJAYS HAVE NOT SANG A SONG YET THAT I DO NOT LIKE.INCLUDING FAMILY REUNION ALBUM.

The best of Mo Thugs.......2006-03-15

This is by far the best Mo Thugs album. Family Scriptures was good but Family Reunion is much better. I know it has been said before but Ghetto Cowboy is an incredible song. It is not often that you will find such innovation from a rap song. Overall there is alot more talent on Family Reunion then on the groups past efforts. Better and Better.......2007-07-04

The Rankins have given us beautiful music from their very first CD, but Rankin Family Reunion outshines all the rest. I was afraid we'd never hear from them again as a family after John Morris' death, but not only do we get a new CD with no repeats, but one that shows that their voices and music age and blend like fine Scotch. I hope they never deprive us for so long again. It's a sin to let such talent go unheard.

Reunion Rankin Family.......2007-03-20

The Rankin family reunites eight years later and the CD delivers lovely traditional celtic tunes with the harmony that only this family brings to the stage. There are fiddle and piano tracks that John Morris taped before his death. Sunset, written and sung by his daughter Molly, as she plays the guitar while backed up by family members brought tears to my eyes. Molly delivers like her dad and family. The old tunes mixed in with the new find me playing this CD over and over and waiting for the next!!!

Love It!.......2007-03-20

I am so glad that the Rankin Family is finally back. After the tragedy of losing John Morris, the family stopped recording for several years. This is their first release since then, and there is a haunting maturity to their voices and harmonies. I love this CD, and look forward to more releases from them.

Bell Bottoms a go go !!! .......2005-11-14

When "Mother's heads" came out Richie Kotzen changed the course of his career almost completly and demonstrated that he had reached maturity. He was a killer shred guitar virtuoso when he became famous thanxs to Mark Varney's Shrapnel record company dedicated to the guitarists self indulgent recordings. He recorded three albums as a guitar prodigy. Don't get me wrong, I'm just one of those guitar wankers madly in love with scales, arpeggios, super fast things!!! I loved and still love Richie's album as a guitarists heartbreaker, he was and still is of course an unbelievable talent on the six strings. But with this album he completly shocked me because he showed that he was (and still is) an exceptional singer and songwriter too! What a talent! Oh RIchie! This album has an unbeatable sense of freshness even many years after its release date, it is very spontaneous, very well written and played. I could call it seventies blues-rock-soul infectious music with the turbo of Richie's guitar playing in it (guitar playing which is everything but limited and seventies)! Fantastic riffs are everywhere in this album and Richie has a very cool array of seventies guitar tones. To accomodate his songwriting feelings which gravitate around some Motown stuff in a certain way, he changed here instrumentations too, going from the 24 frets-FloydRose-higear superstrat type of things to the old school stratos and teles (changing guitar sounds too) and the choice payed! By the way he is still playing Fender telecasters todays! Guys, this is Richie at his best. If you have loved his later albums, you will love this one which stands as a really satisfying rock-blues-soul infectious record! Best tunes here are "Used", "A woman and a man", "Natural thing", "Where did our love go" but it's very good allaround!... well let's wear our bell bottoms again and bang our heads! Let's go Richie, Kick ass!

2 CD set. Lou Rawl's death on January 6th, 2006 robbed the world of one of popular music's greatest tenor voices. Here we present his last albums for the Philadelphia International label, issued in 1980 & 1987. Shades Of Blue was produced by Joel Dorn (producer of Roberta Flack and Bette Midler) and features Rawls' gorgeous readings of the Righteous Brothers' 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling', Willie Dixon's 'Hoochie Coochie Man' and Aretha Franklin's 'Think' (from the original Blues Brothers film). Backing vocalists include Jocelyn Brown, Cissy Houston and the first recorded appearance of Whitney Houston. Family Reunion saw Rawls reunited with the songwriting and production skills of both Gamble & Huff and Dexter Wansel, along with the Philadelphia International session musicians and features Lou's cover of 'Unchained Melody'. Edsel. 2006.

Genuine, sincere worship, is found throughout this double CD album. Live Gospel Music has never been better and the variety of styles, only adds to my appreciation of it. "Ain't It Sweet" is a marvelous song of hope for those looking for a reunion with loved ones. It will inspire your heart, while moistening your eyes!! The entire album is one of my favorites!!!
