Terrible gamble for anyone except the biggest fans simply due to the horrible consistency of getting only one track that resembles the exciting qualities inherent with the groups way better work, and another long track that plays like a lazy beat-fest session of uninspired undertaking. Strictly for those familiar and engaged with everything else Battles have put out

Top Form.......2004-11-21

Battles know what they're doing. They didn't come into this deal with that adolescent inexperience and uncertainty of what direction to take. Their former musical projects already have them at the top of their game, and their sound was patented to a tee from the very first recording. I put off buying this EP for awhile; I was wary of 'Fantasy' because of their other underwhelming electronic blip-and-bleat tracks such as 'Uw' and 'Bttls'. As it turns out, the track isn't half-bad, especially on headphones. Also, 'Tras' is probably Battles' most accessible track, with a rock propulsion that makes it instantly palatable. Not a bad buy at all, especially if you already have the other EPs. I can't wait for future releases. Oh wait, I forgot about the 'Tras' video. I was disappointed, because I was expecting a live performance, but instead I got this white-washed recording that reminded me of a Macintosh commercial.

BE CAREFUL!.......2004-10-28

I completely loved EP C. Made me want more BATTLES. HOWEVER, This was NOT quite the ep I was hoping for. The opening track 'Tras' is actually perfect (i love handclaps!)... but the second track, which at over 9minutes i thought would have lots of potential...not so much. Kind of drones on. Not much guitar-work. Would be great if it was part of a larger album maybe. Lets just say that since EP C and this one cost me the same amount....much more bang for the buck going with another album of theirs. Havent' seen the video yet though...maybe that'll take it up to 4stars???

An untapped resource........2005-07-20

I saw the Starlite Desparation open for the Donnas in NYC in late November. This band knows how to entertain a crowd and get everyone into the show. Drummer Jeff Ehrenberg knows how to make a finale by disassembling his drum set in the middle of a song reassemble it within the audence only to finish the song. They made it difficlut for any band to follw their set and are very friendly to their fans. Violet Sundae is an album unlike any other. The bass lines of this album perfectly compliment the guitars cords and drum beats making the entire album fun to listen to.

AMAZING!.......2004-12-11

I saw Starlite Desperation open for The Donnas at the Theatre of the Living Arts in Philadelphia on 11/26/2004. I couldn't believe that an opening act could be SO great. I bought this album at the show, met the guys (who graciously autographed the album for me), and I haven't stopped listening to it. This is all-out rock and roll. Turn it up and enjoy!

an obscure live gem.......2007-01-13

While "Cold Sweat" may seem like just another CD in an ocean of James Brown discs, the listener would error to skip by this one. "Cold Sweat" may not even be an official disc, but it certain sounds like a professionally produced recording. This disc plays an amazing live set of music by the Godfather of Soul. The show sounds like it's from the 1980's or 1990's. Thus it was recorded long after what most would consider James Brown's golden era. That written, this show sounds more timeless than dated. The setlist is Brown's typical canon and the performance is epic. In particular, "It's a Man's World" is played with scintillating extensions and improvisation. It's hard to imagine there being a better version of this 1966 hit. Maceo Parker is in as fine a form as ever on the sax. "Cold Sweat" is a rare disc that can only be found under the radar. If the listener is looking for a great live disc by the Hardest Working Man in Show Business, this is a must have.

Another overlooked hair metal band.......2006-05-25

1990's Break Out was the debut (and only) release from Cold Sweat, which was formed by former Keel guitarist Marc Ferrari. Equal parts Warrant, Dokken, and L.A. Guns, this is exactly the kind of hair metal abum you'd expect to find in 1990 - plenty of hard rockin' tunes plus the obligatory ballad. A cover of the Willie Dixon classic I Just Want To Make Love To You was a nice surprise. This is very melodic hard rock. It may not be very original, but it is still a very good album if you're into this kind of music. The band never gained that much attention, but given the sheer volume of similar bands at the time, it's not really surprising.

Another casualty of the early-90's grunge-a-thon, Cold Sweat was never heard from again.

DEAD CHILD with a name like that it's got to be good!!!.......2007-04-18

I listened to a few short samples that sounded good and took a chance. I was so happily surprised by DEAD CHILD, I told 2 friends.They have it on heavy rotation too, along with EARLY MAN, the SWORD, WITCH, HELLACOPTERS and ZEKE. Like these other 'retro'-"stoner-rock" bands they are re-inventing that SABBATH-esq IOMNI sound and building on it, with 80's Judas Preist-like riffs and vocals, but more creative in the songwriting.
I'm looking forward to hearing more from this promising band and hope you will help support them.
