A rare jewel rediscovered........2005-09-25

This little jewel of a story was an important part of my childhood. My family listened to the cassette over and over until we could all recite every line and sing along with every word of every song. We have searched and searched for a replacement copy for that worn-out tape and were delighted beyond words to find this re-release. We were pleased to discover that the same recordings we fell in love with were digitally remastered, and the result is crystal clear in rich stereo.
Listening to it again as an adult, I understand why the story speaks so well to children. It's a touching and thoughtful affirmation of the value of each person and the power of love. I highly recommend this CD to anyone with young children.

Great Story.......2004-09-25

I am thrilled to find out that this story and Cd is available. I first became aware of Ramo in the 3rd grade where I played the part of Ramo in a school play. Throughout the years, high School, and College I found myself singing these songs. Many of my friends would often ask if I made up the songs. It is amazing how the moral of Ramo's story has stayed with me throughout the years and help shape how I treat others. Now that I am married with kids, I often sing the Ramo songs to my children ages 7, 5, and 1. They absolutely love Ramo. I always thought that the play and Ramo was my 3rd grade teachers's creation, so I decided to search the internet. Wow, I am surprised and grateful that I can purchase Ramo for my kids enjoyment.

Staple of my childhood returns to haunt a new generation.......2001-08-04

My sisters and I were the only people I have ever met who owned this record. As a very little girl, I used to sit by our record player's speaker, sobbing at poor Ramo's plight. Later, I used to torture high school and college friends by singing some of the sadder lines ("Please won't you be nice? Won't you try to help me out?" Ramo tearfully entreats his friends). Ramo teaches some valuable lessons: be yourself, let others be themselves, and treat everyone with kindness. However, it also has a conflicting message. On the one hand, we learn in the finale that "Love is a circle; the more you give, the more comes around." On the other hand, Ramo's love for his fellow animals is met only with scorn and mockery. The music is great and very catchy. I really can't believe this is available again. It's even more seventies than "Free to Be You and Me," an ultimately superior work in the "let's teach kids morals in a fun way" genre.

Awarded by Billboard as an "Outstanding Children's Recording", this timeless work has proven to be one of the best musical stories for kids. The delightful production stars the lovable character, Ramo, a young elephant who is treated as an outcast by the other animal children of the jungle. The recording masterfully includes all the audio tools to effectively captivate young audiences, with it's terrific blend of music, narrative, sound effects and vocals. A story that is so sensitively written, all ages will be enthralled by Ramo's trials and triumphs. After three decades of popularity, Ramo the Elephant has certainly earned it's place among the children's classics.
