2 for 1...you can not beat that!.......2007-05-30

This CD is remarkable!! I am a gigantic Chante Fan. I have been a fan since the "Precious" album when she performed "As if We Never Met" live on video soul with Donny Simpson. (took you way back then huh?) Her voice is indescribable. I have been searching for words to describe her voice for years and I am still unable to. Please check out "Just a Dream" on the uncovered CD (song 9) and you will get a glimpse of what I am talking about. She also performs magic on several other songs as well. There is a song...excuse me there will be SONGS on these CD's for everyone.

I have to give credit to Kenny as well. I have to admit, I was not a fan until they did their first album together. I actually got married off of "When I say I do" from that album and he brings a lot the CD as well. This is a must listen to CD, especially when you are with that special someone.

I have been looking for this CD for over a year and yes it was worth the wait. I like the 2-CD deal addressing two very different topics, perfect fit for the CD title.

A breath of fresh air.......2007-05-08

First of all, I thoroughly enjoy the concept of a husband and wife being able to record together and make music for lovers and married couples. At the same time Kenny Lattimore and Chanté Moore appeal to our spiritual sides on this double album of love and relationships. The first disc which is brilliantly produced, with standout covers like "Love Ballad" and "No Ordinary Love", focuses on our human relationships. You can just press play on this album and leave it. I never skip songs, which most real music lovers can attest is a great feat given today's musical landscape. The second disc focuses on our relationship with the divine. Again, play it all the way through. If you love Kenny Lattimore and Chanté Moore or just plain love real music, then you need to get this album right now. What are you waiting for!?

Uplifting.......2007-04-16

Initially I did not feel this, but I must admit it grew on me and I found the lyrics and the music to be very uplifting. If you're looking for a different spin to gospel music and clean love songs this is the one. Stay blessed.

Tony Joe White says he always saw the friends he invited to play on his new album--Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, J.J. Cale, Michael McDonald, and the late Waylon Jennings--as "keepers of the fire." They're also premier custodians of loneliness and despair, the two emotions that lie at the heart of this hypnotic submersion into country/swamp blues. From the kickoff track, "Run for Cover," with Wayne Jackson of the Memphis Horns, these meditations on mourning--lost lovers, spiritual struggles, anxiety that knows no name and no bottom--grab the listener fast and pull him down into swirling dark waters. For that reason, there's a numbing sameness--on occasion, two songs back-to-back seem to simply be extensions of each other. But while Jennings's effort is more a portrait of the artist testing his chops after suffering a stroke, other collaborations stick in the mind. The dour Knopfler shows up on the most optimistic song, "Not One Bad Thought," but his vocals still sound like the barely uttered words of a depressive on a bad down. Clapton's voice remains characteristically modest on "Did Somebody Make a Fool Out of You," yet his guitar work--measured and full of emotion--proves what you don't play is as important as what you do. Still, the best pairing is that with Michael McDonald on "Baby, Don't Look Down." When White's smoky rumble meets McDonald's bruised, angelic tenor, you'll know why God made music. --Alanna Nash

MIXED FEELINGS ON THIS ONE:.......2007-05-20

I've got mixed feelings about this album. On the one hand, it's got Tony Joe White...and even in '06, The Boy is cooking. And, as another plus, the drum mixes are as crisp as a whip. On the downside, he elected to have outsiders sing and play on some of his cuts...and the only reason I can think of that he did so was to show that, by comparison, he's the Real Deal and they are just wimps.

Don't get me wrong: I'm a big fan of Mark Knopfler's and, even though it has become fashionable to bash Clapton in certain hobbyist guitar forums, I appreciate the greatness he has added to guitar history. Now, J.J. Cale is not someone I have ever warmed up to...and Michael McDonald? Gawd! I can't stand to listen to that whiny, fake, constipated-sounding voice. He sounds like he can't quite decide whether he's an opera-singer or a wannabe "Blue-Eyed Soul" singer. And, sadly, he's neither! But, the scariest part is that he, probably, thinks that he's actually adding something to Tony Joe's track!!! The only song that works pretty well is the one he shares with Waylon Jennings. On this one, they sound like a couple of Horny Old Men having a good time. Cool!

"Not One Bad Thought" with Knopfler isn't bad...but I was disappointed by Knopfler's contributions. On his own, his vox are very Soulful...but they sound weak in comparison to White's. And: I'm used to hearing Knopfler cook on guitar...which, like me, he plays bare-fingered. But here? It sounds like they used a lot of obnoxious stomp-boxes that buried the distinctive Knopfler sound.

And "Did Somebody Make A Fool Out Of You" with Clapton was obnoxious compared to Tony Joe's original version. The mix wasn't very good because there was a lot of self-indulgent "busy-work" between the (too-many) guitar tracks. Clapton certainly plays flawlessly...and his vox are decent. But, when heard in comparison to Tony Joe's, he sounds exactly like what he is: a weak British copy of The Real Deal.

I won't even comment on the Cale track ("Louvelda") except for one word: boring.

"Baby, Don't Look Down" is a really cool tune (as is the first cut...done without outside "help"..."Run For Cover"!) but the worst parts are whenever Michael McDonald "graces" us with his vox. Man, that guy's voice is nothing but irritating and he should probably stick to hanging out in L.A. and not trying to sound Southern...or Soulful. Listen to the difference between Tony Joe's solo vocals and McDonald's: I rest my case! Plus the fact that it didn't sound like they'd rehearsed their parts up very well. When they sing harmonies, their phrasing is downright sloppy...and shameful!

The general arrangements are good...especially the horn-charts...and the back-up vox work very well within the context. I already mentioned that the drum mixes are crisp. Tony Joe's vox could have been brought up a little in the mixes...but, over all...except for the bad choice in collaborations...it was a decent album.

But here's a personal message to Tony Joe:

Hey, man: PLEASE make the rest of your albums without collaborating. You're simply better than that...and you don't need the "famous" names screwing up your good work!

Interesting.......2007-05-13

Interesting disc for Tony Joe White fans. His earlier discs are better - such as On The Path Of A Decent Groove, Lake Placid Blues, Closer To The Truth and One Hot July. Easy to listen to but some of the tracks are badly recorded.

Very good CD.......2007-05-09

Tony brings friends into these bluesy songs and turns out a better than average (for Tony) collection. I'm a big fan, having 3 albums and 6 CDs by him and this one has become one of my favorites.

Tony Joe better as a loner........2007-03-11

A good CD, but not his best work. Tony Joe has such a unique style, and that sometimes makes his music difficult to blend with other artist. "Did somebody make a fool out of you" is one of my favorite Tony Joe songs, and is very well covered on this CD. Certainly good listening; a master stylist.

Let me preface this review by saying that Tony Joe IS the MAN. He is a great influence on me and my own personal songwriting. That being said it is my opinion that Uncovered is good-not great. This should BY NO MEANS dissuade one from buying and listening to this collection. The guest appearances do little to make the compositions stand out. Most of the vocals from the guests are not very distinguishable from Tony Joe's approach. While I'm certain it was cool for these greats to get together and cut tracks, I'm not hearing too much that stands out. My personal pick is the vintage T.J.W."REBELLION". Louvella is a bit long and repetetive. It is tough to make out the vocals by JJ Cale. Probably the best guest vocal- or at least the one that stands out tonally- is Michael McDonald's. "Not ONE BAD THOUGHT" is a great song. Wonderful sentiment.
Tony Joe could burp into a pail and make it great on some level. Hey, the cat is responsible for some of the best lyrics and atmospheric songcraft out there...I do question why the remake of Rainy Night in Ga and Midnight Train.I suppose that was a marketing decision. In The end that's TJW's decision and no one elses.I can respect that.

Bob Dylan Uncovered & Covered by the Best.......2006-10-24

Who's your favorite band? No, I'm not talking about The Beatles or The Police or The Rejects. I'm talking about the local or regional band you like to see, or need to see, every now and then to keep you grounded; to remember who you are and make you smile. I ask because this is what we luckily have in Bob Dylan Uncovered from Paradiddle Records. There are a number of reasons this CD should be in your music collection. It is a collection of some Dylan's best work: a songwriter who seemed to continually be able to relate to all of us despite his wealth and other worldly status. And because the music is performed by those of us that can interpret and appreciate Dylan's music and offer it to us in their own new and fresh perspective so we might appreciate their interpretations as well as this timeless music.

Because Dylan is able to reach us, on our level, emotionally and spiritually, we have made him an American icon. And because he has this incomparable ability, we have allowed him to be who he is: a great songwriter but not a great performer even of his own work. This is where Uncovered comes in and possibly comes in in such a way that Dylan might be pleased by the grass roots effort involved to bring this great collection to the public. It is most basically a celebration of the music by those who are closest to us: our neighbors, friends and family who happen to be damn good musicians.

The first song "If You Gotta Go, Go Now," whether by plan or providence, is the perfect way to start this collection: "Listen to me, baby." Because that is what Dylan has been saying for decades and these great New York Metro Area Bands give us the urge to sit back or, in some cases, jump up and listen. The sassy and sexy voice of Leslie Ziemi, of Cadillac Moon, pulls us right in and along for a great ride.

This collection is going to appeal to you, your kids and your parents. That's right, it is universal in sound appeal and the diversity of the music brings us together. The up tempo rock tunes are carried by Russ Seeger's "If You See Her Say Hello" and The Lone Sharks' "Down Along the Cove," which has a distinct Rock-a-Billy sound and some type of toe tapping, or body motion, is unavoidable. Seeger's rendition brings a certain veneer of pleasant amusement to the recognition of a love lost but still thought of. It kinda says,"Hey, we had a good run even though it's over."

There's a lot of funky, soulful, jazzy music on Uncovered, making me realize just how funky Dylan was though his performance may not have brought that out to me. In our lead song, "If You Gotta Go...," Ziemi's seductive and powerful voice would make me wonder how the recipient of her musical message would have second thoughts about staying. The realization that Uncovered is something different, in a very good way, became obvious with The Walkers' "Tangled Up In Blue." It's not right to say that a version of a song is better than the original, it wouldn't make sense. But this version of "...Blue" feels like the "right" version. And this is where we obviously feel the Us and Dylan connection: "the rain on his shoes," "her" working in a strip place and "him" stopping in for a beer and all those mathematicians and carpenters' wives that we all know that make up our lives. The Don Olsen Gang gives us a very laid back New Orleans Style version of "Temporary Like Achilles." "The Gang's" version of this song is a weary and jazzy, yet humorous perspective, of a lover trying to figure out why his love has turned him off and seems dead set on making him feel the pain of it. The Little Wilson Band's version of "It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry," provides the funky breaking Blues number that we need to say,"yeah, you hurt me but your time's coming too."

For more esoteric tastes we have Denise Donahue and Codiak. Donahue's ever timely "Masters of War" reminds us that no matter how noble the fight, someone behind the scenes is getting filthy rich on this death and destruction of war. Her intensity, musical originality and apparent passion for the cause have us standing with her at the grave's edge to help confirm the [...] is dead. We kick the volume up with Codiak and their energized version of "I Don't Believe You." And in the midst of our convulsive head bobbing to the beat, we pick up the Uncovered case to remind us that this is indeed a collection of Dylan songs interpreted with an innovative flair we have not enjoyed until now.

The transition song for the Uncovered collection is Iridesense's "One More Cup of Coffee." I prefer to listen to a new disk all the way through the first time to get a feel for the music but this is the point where the Pavlovian response to hit the repeat button the on mp player began for me. The song is distinctly Western Rock which moves us from the electric sound to the Folk sound. But the first time I heard Tara Eberle sing "one more cup of coffee for the road," I got slight goose bumps. The story, in the song, has a certain sense of ominous foreboding: we know something "not good" is going to happen. And Eberle's voice gives us that sense, and also "a final cigarette, final cup of coffee" existential surrender to the inevitable.

The Folk songs are extremely well done and tough to attempt as we are all watching to see if they can come anywhere near the feel that Dylan gave us for the same songs. Caroline Doctorow's "One Too Many Mornings" is light and sweet and cleverly belies again the familiar Dylan theme of inevitable surrender to losing a love. But the implied pathos is disguised by Doctorow's sensual and enticing vocals. The three folk songs, sung by men, were the ones I might scrutinize hardest (perhaps unfairly) because they are going head to head with my perspective of Dylan the Folk Singer. I was pleased. Drew Olsen performs a very sincere and thoughtful version of "Girl From the North Country," enough for me to hope his love still remembered him and she had a warm coat for the winter. Marc Andrews' "Ring Them Bells" was much less than I expected...in the very best way. It is easy to become self-righteous with "Bells." Andrews' version is poignant, restrained, evocative and, above all, convincing. Makes me wish bells were rung for more than just weddings. Closing this collection is Johnny Cuomo's "Boots of Spanish Leather." Cuomo follows in the tradition of Roger McGuinn and Tom Petty by sounding very much like Dylan. It is Cuomo's performance that is an honor to the Songwriter, by imitation, and an honor to the Collection, by beautifully closing this disk with again the theme of lost love but the potential that love might return to fulfill expectations and longing.

At present, the original Bob Dylan Uncovered is paired with a bonus disk. Of special note, is "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues." Again, the sense of the inevitable result of failure and humiliation, conveyed with ironic humor is easily felt in the song. The first few chords of the song set the tone that some one is going to get screwed and sent home with their tail between their legs. Michele Sivori's vocals perfectly convey the feeling of "it's going to hit the fan and I better cut my losses while I can." I will allow the remainder of the bonus disk to be a surprise you can unwrap for yourself. There are versions of "Highway 61 Revisited," "As I Went Out One Morning," and original music from Drew Olsen, Johnny Cuomo, David Vanden Heuvel and Denise Donahue.

I began by saying there were a number of reasons to own Bob Dylan Uncovered: A great songwriter we can relate to, great local talent we can relate to and finally a great effort by The Producers, Bill Herman, Tom Crawford and Bill Sperl for encouraging, creating and distributing this collection. If you like Dylan, innovative interpretation and just good music, you should own this collection and share it with your friends. Visit [...]

Can't tell you how much I am enjoying this album!! Worth every penny!! You can't go wrong with this Dylan cover!! Not like anything you have heard before!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very talented artists and the recording is top notch!

I am a die hard Dylan fan and have listened to many Dylan cover albums for many many years. I own just about every Dyan album ever released and teach a contempory music/literature class at a local college where I feature Dylans lyrics and music. When I heard Paradiddles "uncovered" I could not believe it. This album ranks with some of the finest recordings I have ever heard. The diversity of this album is awesome. Uncovered has become an instant classic for me and is currently my favorite album from the first time I heard it. This is a must for all Dylan fans as well as anyone who just enjoys excellent recordings and music!!!!

Three midis derived from songs performed on this collection sound light years ahead of the original artists' version. It's sad but true.

Album Description

Family Recordings proudly presents an inspired double disc set that is part musical education and part expose! Uncovered reveals 40 original tracks made popular by some of contemporary music's brightest stars that many are unaware are cover versions! Uncovered showcases a deliberately varied and genre busting track list, revealing the lesser-known versions of tracks made famous by the likes of The Beatles, The Temptations, Kylie and Robbie Williams!

Included is the first ever Motown single - Barrett Strong's 'Money (That's What I Want)' which was covered by The Beatles, Jorge Ben's Taj Mahal (ripped off by Rod Stewart for 'Do You Think I'm Sexy?' and settled in court as a result) and World Party's 'She's The One' (for which Karl Wallinger is no doubt very grateful to Robbie Williams). A heavy dose of Soul is included with tracks from Judy Street (Soft Cell's 'What'), The Supremes' Nathan Jones (later hacked by Bananarama), The Miracles' 'Love Machine' (made famous by the boys of Wham!) and The Delphonics' 'Ready Or Not' (The Fugees). A musical education indeed!

Uncovered has many rare and hard to find original versions of songs that have been popularized by other artists and songs that have freely "sampled" others. It's good that someone has seen fit to give the original artists of many subsequent pop hits their rightful due.

Creation is soul-searching. Nothing is ever finished. Carl Ruggles Carl Ruggles (18761971) was a maverick American composer of short works that project a sense of infiniteness. His musical vision was majestic. However, like rare precious stones, his inimitable works were cast in print only a handful of times. To get to the essence of Ruggles, one can dig through piles of unpublished drafts and near-complete works that he left behind after his death in 1971. The circumstances around these works tell much about the creative process of his music and the philosophies that guided his craft. The incomplete works reveal triumphant music that swells the Ruggles canon, and deepens appreciation of his accomplishments. This recording offers a glimpse at Ruggless grander transcendent art. The story of the unpublished sketches, transcriptions, and eventual realizations spans the twentieth century. The scores for the unknown works on this recording began as posthumous realizations by John Kirkpatrick from the disparate Ruggles sketches. With Kirkpatrick as trusted editor, Ruggles had showed preliminary sketch ideas to him over the years, some via letters. He left remaining drafts and miscellaneous fragments toward these acknowledged works at his death. Counting the material marked for Affirmations (or Evocation #5, or in one place, Visionsthe title Kirkpatrick favored) there are more than a thousand potential contributions to this piece alone. Considering the mountain of viable sketches, his past collaborations with the composer, and a thirst to hear more music of the reticent Ruggles, Kirkpatrick assembled various sketches into performable editions. They are remarkably tight in construction. Kirkpatrick described his approach to pulling Ruggles's works together like stringing pearls. This CD offers the first recordings of four substantial piano works, two songs, and a work for violin and piano realized by John Kirkpatrick.

An Awesome " Sing along out loud" album.......2007-05-27

I LOVE every song on Covered and Uncovered. That's hard to find in most artist, but this combination brings about such a varity. "Tonight" makes you feel like really two-stepping in sync with someone,, even if you don't really love them!! And "Figure It Out" is the new married woman's anthem for time to herself.... COVERED gives me the time during my morning worship to really praise the LORD and say that I am thankful for everything. I sing OUT LOUD in my car on my commute, and I know other people think I am Crazy!!!!! These are two tremendous voices, together in Love with each other and above all, GOD. I can't wait to see what's next.. Maybe a Christmas album??????????? But you will NOT be disappointed with this one!!!!

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! Figure It Out on the first disc and I Give You My Praise on the second disc are my favorites. As a married women I can relate to Figure It Out, it is okay to want "ME" time when things are going great in your marriage. Kenny & Chante voice still sound awesome and smooth. BUY THIS ONE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

i've been up under their noses the whole time they recorded this project and i am still surprised with how well it turned out. taking a such a controversial step and doing a double disc, the other half being gospel, you have to come with it... and they did. of course working with fred hammond is pretty much a guaranteed "W". don't sleep on this. my favorite song is "here on earth". lol!
