Good Music!.......2007-07-29
The CD is good and it's nice to listen to Daryle sing. I hope he continues to make more music and redo more oldies.
True "Country" at it's best!.......2007-07-07
If you are young and have never had the privilage of hearing Merle, Buck, Kieth W. et al back in their hay-days, this one will get you there! Singletary's pipes are at their very best and dare I day that it sounds as good as the originals? Yes it does! Backed up by some great Honk-Tonk picking, this collection of classics is worth your hard earned dollar! Today's Nashville can kiss my grits, this is REAL country music!
i been waiting for this one .......2007-07-03
Daryle singletary is too talented and has too much soul . And grew up learning from the best .TO make it with todays wanta bees .I never thought i would be saying an artist is too country for country radio . but here goes . And it is plain to see he always sings like he has a little conway . jones . haggard . owens .travis and .anderson . in him . he is a little like every great artist that has come down the road in the last 30 yrs . At least he knows how to pull it off . NO you will not hear this played on the local station .This release is in the same vain as the last release as outstanding as it can be . But that s why i sing this way . should have been THE album of the yr. This is as best as can be after thats why .It is hot . Do not miss this one . This is infact a lesson in how music should be done and how it should sound . this ALBUM should have been called lesson number 2 . as that s why was really lesson number 1. LIKE d .wade sang. LESSONS I HAVE LEARNED . about growing up and listening to john anderson and george jones . But there is no mistake when i say he is at his best when he sings a conway song . And that was a far reach as he does them all very good . PURE TALENT . .
Pure 'Randy Travis' style country. Superb. .......2007-05-30
Randy Travis had a lot to do with Daryle, certainly early in his career. This is pure country as it should be. The cover of Randy Travis's 'Promises' is pitch perfect. One of the best country artists of today.
Great CD.......2007-05-13
This was really a terrific listen. I just have one question, though, when does the next all-new CD come out?

The sweetest and most talented woman musician........2007-05-09
Straight from the Heart has been my introduction to Patrice Rushen. I fist read about her in a Prince fansite. So, curiousity took the best of me and I listened to a few audios in the web. At that point, I decided to search for any of her CDs that I could find. This is the only CD I found in a brick-and-mortar store. Patrice is so talented in many genres like funk, R&B, and jazz. The sweet and silky voice she has is very relaxing and has this aura of confidence.
Straight from the Heart.......2006-12-21
A great disc from a great musician! Give it a listen! Five stars!!
THE soul-jazz album.......2006-10-23
One of the most flawless albums of the 80s, Patrice Rushen branches out every which way to make an artistic statement, and passes with flying colors on every count. 80s disco (Forget Me Nots, Breakout!), sensuous balladry (Remind Me, Where There Is Love) and the jazzy instrumental "Number One" tie together for an intoxicating experience that will likely remain fresh 50 years from now.
Smoothness.......2005-12-21
Patrice Rushen is a genious and this album Straight From The Heart is a must have classic. Of course the unforgettable Forget Me Nots is here but it seems as every song is unforgettable. From All We Need to the magnificent Remind Me to the incredible Where There Is Love, Patrice Rushen keeps the jams comin. And if you REALLY want to jam just put on that Number One, a very great instrumental that keeps you movin. Patrice Rushen was one of the greats that got lost in the shuffle even though her songs are easily recognizable. I'd advise anybody who loves great music to go get this album ASAP! You won't be disappointed trust me! Masterpiece
80's revisited.......2005-09-12
I enjoyed this cd to the max! Just took me back to the days when I had the parachute pants, Jheri Curl (Which probably explains my baldness today!), and sported Vans (checkerboard shoes)! Patrice would come on and the block party would go nuts!!!

The Real Deal, Ya'll.......2006-01-13
I just can't stop listening to it.
Vintage blues.......2005-05-22
I used to laugh whenever a young admirer of the blues prefaced his messages with "Eric Clapton is God!" Well I thought EC came pretty close but Carlos just might be! This is music that I WANT the blues to be, but all too often gets bled dry by producers who think they know more than the audience does. CG has been around long enough to be very, very good at what he does, and to know absolutely who he is. This, apart from choice of instrument and degree of musical training, is what makes Mozart and Beethovan and Eric Clapton and Carlos Guitarlos guys we want to listen to over and over again. They always have more to say to us, because they never waste it asking if it is true or not. They know it is. Carlos Guitarlos is love, and no sweeter sound ever fell from the sky. Thank you Carlos and friends!
Familiar, Yet Original.......2004-04-28
This CD has 17 songs on it. While certain songs remind one of other artists and their material, there is something about the way Carlos Guitarlos has taken these familiar forms, distilled them and made them his own that is difficult to describe. "You Don't Know What Love Is" reminds me of a Jimmy Witherspoon song. "Women and Whiskey" reminds me of Jimmy Reed. But these songs are not merely derivative-- all you have to do is listen to his original guitar work, his words, his voice, and you can tell this isn't anybody's Jimmy Anything--it's Carlos, and I hope there's a lot more of that where this came from.
Street Musician Makes Good!.......2003-11-26
Only in San Francisco would you ever find a musician that calls himself Carlos Guitarlos. Guitarlos has been called a fallin' angel, a drunken doofus and one hell of a blues player by one San Francisco newspaper. Guitarlos' chosen venue has been the streets, playing on the corner of 16th and Mission for enough tips to by him some beverages and something to eat. The toothless one has now emerged as somewhat of a San Francisco icon of the blues. On this release Guitarlos joins with a band of other San Francisco regulars for 17 original tunes averaging a little better than two minutes a piece. It is an eclectic mix of tunes some with an R&B flavor, some sounding a bit Bo Diddleyish but all are truly straight from the heart. I was skeptical at first, but after one listen, I was hooked. Give Guitarlos a listen, he deserves a break.
Born to Be Blue.......2003-06-30
Straight from the Heart pumps out most of the pain associated in living the blues with every beat. From forlorn love to finding shelter in his music from a sea of madness, Carlos shares his umbrella long enough to bring a smile to your face. "When The Pain Stops Killing Me" reveals the psychosis necessary in resolving everyday matters like the B part. After all whats right is right, right? "Everybodys Got the Blues" another good track yes, but not everybody can sing em convicingly. Carlos voice is somewhere between San Antonio's Sonny Ozuna of the Sunliners,Luis Prima and the brown leather strap attached to my barbers chair that she loves to stroke back and forth with her blade preparing to cut my whiskers off, tough! I love, it hurt so good! STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART music updates Robbie Robertsons Bands Juke Joint album. Take Creedance it's all really good fun. You don't learn to sing from the heart in a band as any good blues person will learn you, he did time on mean streets and main streets. Traffic and noise the competition, volume mattered! So did material. His songs are well tempered SFO UFO nuggets. Grammy Award material if I ever heard it! "Co Co Club", Cotton Club whats the difference? Get this recording and your in the club, find a seat sit down, shut up and listen to inspiration STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART.

The follow-up album "Take No Prisoners" was produced by heavyweights Arif Mardin (Aretha Franklin) and Tony LiPuma, and resulted in three charting singles - "Take No Prisoners," "There's Nothin Out There" and "Love Always Finds A Way."

Customer Reviews:
Fantastic cd - Take No Prisoners hard to find :-).......2006-03-08
I looked for Take No Prisoners for years and years so I could have in my collection Let's Apologise. I bought this dual cd when it released about 2 years ago because I was so excited to be able to get TNP which had been 'discontinued'. If you want to get some of Peabos best work, then it's here for you in this double release. Let's Apologise would have to be one of the best songs he's ever done, but one of the best songs ever by anyone. It's cool and catchy and he sings it well, as he does with all material here. Yes the songs here are now a bit dated, but still so worth checking out. Some are still quite tight and you'll find 'new' songs for yourself to love. I hope that Peabo can release some new music for us fans to enjoy. Go get this now; you'll love it.
Peabo's first two Elektra LPs on one CD...available again!!!.......2003-07-04
The two albums reissued on this CD were among Peabo's strongest sellers and both gave Peabo major hits while solidifying his status as one of the best balladeers of his generation. "If Ever You're In My Arms Again", "I'm In Love", "She's Over Me", "Love Always Finds A Way", "Learning The Ways Of Love" and "Slow Dancing" are simply gorgeous and leave no doubt as to Mr. Bryson's being a great crooner. Thanks to Collectables for reissuing these classic albums on one CD at a good price.

Inspirational Disappointment.......2006-10-06
Pebbles started out as a sexy dancing club type of woman who liked tight jeans and short shorts. She went on to become a minister. I think that transition shows in this album. It seems to be a lot more spiritual than her first two, and the message really does seem to be straight from her heart as the title implies. The problem is the music isn't hot. I bought this album because I got her first two and thought they were very hot. This album is nothing like the first two. She is known for hot upbeat songs like Backyard, Mercedes Boy, and Giving You The Benefit, as well as slow jams like Always and Love Makes Things Happen. There is nothing like any of those songs on this album. It sounded a lot like elevator music. It seems to drag and never really pick up. So, her heart was in the right place but it just doesn't seem like a Pebbles album and I would not have guessed it was if it didn't have her name and picture on it. If you prefer more toned down music than her first two then you might like this a lot.
Pebbles - da bomb!.......2006-03-31
This is pebbles' best work. Love "Are You Ready?", such a hip hop classic, love the video - Pebbles all over times square - way cool.
The best song on this release had to be the hauntingly cool "I Can't Help It." Pebbles does not have the pipes of a Mariah or Whitney, but she doesn't need it.
This release was mostly a flop, I remember buying upon it's release and immediately falling in love with it. It mostly flopped because I believe she had some kind of health problems that prevented her from promoting it, something like that which was too bad because it was full of 1995 retro to early eighties mixed with sexy mid tempo hip hop grooves.
A classic for the hip hop/r&b 'ers.
HOULER IF YOU READY!.......2004-05-09
Are You Ready?, this is a mistery, why oh why?, Pebbles voice it's so mature and distintive, her lattest effort, Straight From The Heart, wasn't a path tracer like her debut album, but it was fair and classy URBAN-R&B stomper, this album is one of those that you don't get why it didn't hit big, the leading single is simply infectuos and the sensual ballads are the ones that put you in mood. Give it a try it's really good, some other album that didn't receive a fair welcome are HEAD OVER HEELS by Paula Abdul, INTIMACY by Jody Watley.
A Great album! get it today!.......2003-12-04
This is a great album, one of Pebbles' best albums ever! I fell in love with it the day I got it sometime in '95. Pebbles has such a great voice and nice soothing R&B songs. I love every single song, -the interludes! every song presented on Straight From My Heart is a true masterpiece! Pebbles is one of my favorite singers and she deserves more recognition than she gets and I'd like to hear more of her songs played more often on the radio. This is the kind of album you'll find yourself listening to again and again, over and over and you'll never tire of it. It's the kind of classic material that only Pebbles can deliver. A must have for anyone who likes great R&B music!
you must like mature/vocals.......2003-01-12
I appreciate this album since it showcases her voice and instrumental production. Highclass music, not for the ghettoladin youths who like to sip on suzurp. The lyrics are very very good, the remake of Stevie's "I can't help it" is good which says alot, the "Are you Ready" version was obviously some record excecs' idea of putting something danceable/previous Pebbles on the album it doesn't fit at all. I bought the single Version which is much better and jazzy goes along with the album. The interludes; I agree with someone who said they were too european for the US, she was too ahead of her time. If this was released now it would go at least triple platinum quick. She be heraled on MTV BET VH1 and whatever else as a mature changer and innovator. But like I said, if you don't like relaxing music, story telling music, emotional/ instrumental you will hate this album. If you do, then you'll love it from start to finish, my fav's are "Like the last time, Angel, Show me. But as much as I hate to admit it, the best JAM is Puffy's handiwork, "You". If this single were released now, LOOK OUT ASHANTI, MARIAH, J. LO, TONI B. or whoever else is out. If you like Pebbles at all you will like this album, get it somehow, it's a keepsake since she won't be recording anymore most likely secular music.

This album is good........2003-09-28
This album is one of my favorites. Who can go wrong when t.boy is producing? Though I only listen to half the tracks, including "I Shall Wear a Crown" "Move on up the Mountain" "Don't Let It Get You Down" and my favorite track "My Happiness," I do not regret this purchase. Christian music needs more of this.
Straight My Heart.......2003-08-27
Deleon's Straight from the Heart CD is an excellent example of Contemporary Gospel. Re-making tunes like "I Shall wear a Crown" and "Because He Lives", she has a unique style that blends R&B rythums with old time Gospel. This CD has a nice mix of both praise and worship music. She certainly has the talent and vocal skills needed to draw young people to Christ with tracks like "I know I can Make It" and "Do You Wanna Go". Straight from the Heart is today's Gospel. If your are a music lover this is a CD you will want to own.
Not that great...........2002-02-26
She has a nice voice...it does not sound very "strong". Overall, I only liked maybe 3 songs on this CD and they were basically some of the older songs that she "re-made". The other songs sounded too much like she was trying to sound like Aliyah or somebody (but then again, some people like that).... I thought that there was too much heavy breathing and panting....I also thought the cover was really too reavealing to be a christian woman (her stomach is out)....Christians can look good without looking "seductive". You don't promote a Gospel CD by looking "sexy". I thought the focus was "Jesus"? Remember him?
High Points - Music & Low Points - Cover.......2001-11-15
The new Deleon CD is nice. It was totally different than her last one sound and cover. I would admit that the cover was not a modest example. I had to tear the cover. She looked to seductive and when you open up the cover, there is a full-size picture of her. The clothing is a little revealing (not too much). But, for a Christian woman, having a gospel album I don't think it gives a good appearance.
All of the music was great! I just didn't think that the cover of the CD was a good idea. It looked too much like a woman on a secular CD.
Best contemporary gospel album ever!.......2001-09-11
This cd is amazing! The much anticipated album for DeLeon was definitely worth the wait! I honestly enjoy listening to every track. I guarantee you will not be disappointed!

Short and Sweet........2006-09-13
I was blessed with a copy of this from Paul Taylor, who had worked on some graphic design for a Syl Johnson album. The album features the same Hodges Bros./Hi-Rhythm Section that was behind Al Green, various other Hi-Records recording artists, and even recently the indie act, Cat Power. Ann Peebles voice, while complemeted immensely by the Hodges Bros. tight and thick 70's funk/soul soundings, offers up an album as strong as any Al Green album released around the same period. Definitely a missing "must have" among the many exhaustive lists of "must haves," "Straight From the Heart" reveals the power of an awesome rhythm section when pushed and challenged by an accomplished singer. While this album is relatively short by today's album standards, it satisfies none the less.
