Re-Introduction to the Legend.......2007-08-03
When it comes to Bob's music I am pretty reserved about remixes and remakes of Bob's stuff. Nothing is like the orignial and nothing will ever be. I have heard some attempts at remixes, dubs and remakes and with the exception of Stephen Marley's work on "Chant Down Babylon" none of them have really hit the mark. This album is in my opinion a huge leap forward in the right direction. The tracks are really groovy and while a few tracks come close to Dubs it's not really a Dub by raw definition. The tracks also flow together really well up untill the last 3 tracks, and are lackluster in their feel and sound. They sound like album fillers. If you are looking for some good lounge/groove music this is a great CD and for Marley Collectors and fans such as myself I would recommend it.

Re-souled.......2007-08-01
Although a deviation from her more known body of work, this is a fantastic CD. Simone leaves her mark on some already fantastic song. If you think she may not be a good fit for some of them, give her a chance. Her passion for the music overtakes any doubt of style-clashing.
Awesome.......2007-07-12
this is an awesome cd. its's a little trancey, a little hip-hoppy, a little drum and bassy, a little disco. every track is wonderfully remixed! i had it on repeat for days after i bought it. best track is "to love somebody" followed by a close second by "the look of love"
Huge disappointment, at least for me........2007-06-10
I love Nina Simone and her music so much and have enjoyed all of the re-issues, collections and even dualdiscs that were released by Legacy following her unfortunate death. This one is an exception.
I found out about this release about a month before its release and counted down the days. The idea seemed so ingenious. (I absolutely love the cover, too.) I guess I got it with the wrong expectations. I was thinking it would be like the wonderful Motown Remixed album, but what I got was very different. All of the mixes sound the same to me. They are very long, drawn-out and repetitive house remixes with Simone's vocals buried or hidden somewhere in the mix after about two minutes of anti-climactic beats. It's quite sad because this seems more of a showcase of the mixers than the voice of Simone. Not right. The only song I enjoyed on here was the remix of "Ain't Got No - I Got Life."
Also, there is no booklet. All the other Legacy releases had great booklets with interviews, biographies, or memories from friends and family. I was quite disappointed that there wasn't one present here. The CD is housed in a nice digipak and great artwork, though.
So, down to the point: if you like house music, then this is probably for you. If you're thinking something different when you hear 'remix' and your main focus is on the artist, then this probably isn't. I'll stick to the good ol' originals, thank you.
NINA LOVE CD.......2007-05-26
i found this CD by accident opportunity had opened the door and now i am blessed you can enjoy this CD simply open the door !

Album Description
Featuring 11 of Motown's biggest and most popular hits remixed by the most creative forces in music, MOTOWN REMIXED VOLUME 2, is the latest demonstration of the timeless, genre-smashing nature of Motown's greatest artists and songs. MOTOWN REMIXED VOLUME 2 spans styles from the Reggaeton funk of the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" to the all-night Latin House of Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through The Grapevine." Diana Ross gets reinvented in a hot remix of "The Boss" and Smokey Robinson's "Being With You" now features his rarely heard Spanish vocals.
Customer Reviews:
definitely successful.......2007-08-04
Summer is officially here, and there is nothing I want to do more than sit by the pool with a mojito. When I received Motown Remixed, Vol. 2 I expected it to be a tranced-out dance mix, but was pleasantly surprised to find out it was not that at all. Instead, the tracks are remixed with Calypso sounds making old favorites sound like Harry Belafonte Caribbean beats. The songs are still recognizable, which is usually not the case with remixes and get you ready for sunbathing at the beach. I found Jr. Walker & the All Stars' "Shot Gun" and the Jackson 5's "Dancing Machine" to be the most successful mixes on the album, almost making you forget that there was no steel drum in either band.
Not every track is helped by the playful summer sound though, like The Temptation's "Papa was a Rolling Stone." The definitive funkiness of the opening baseline is softened by a sweet, summer playfulness that I found to take away from the original tone of the song. The disc as a whole was definitely successful, making me imagine fruity drinks and island getaways, while still staying true to those old soulful favorites of the '60s and '70s.
SO FAR 3 MOTOWN REMIXED CD'S !!.......2007-08-02
Keep these MOTOWN REMIXED cd's coming, I luv anything MOTOWN, especially remixes! For the diehard fan of MOTOWN here is some info for you:
1. 1994- MOTOWN BLEND cd - This is technically the first MOTOWN
remixed cd and contains 12 remixes. Very hard to find, but does
show up on e*bay occasionally, which is where I got mine.
These 12 remixes are completely different than the ones on
the next two remix cd's.
2. 2005- MOTOWN REMIXED cd came out and was fantastic!
3. 2007- MOTOWN REMIXED V.2 cd has come out and is just as great!
There is a fantastic cd that came out in 2002 that I found only
on e*bay and it is called GRANDMASTER MOTOWN. It is an 80 minute
non-stop huge megamix of 46 MOTOWN hits that is great for parties
or working out or ?. For serious MOTOWN fans, you've got to have
all four of these cd's in your collection! Enjoy!
More great Motown .......2007-06-24
As a native Detroiter (not the suburbs baby!) and a teen of the 60s, I feel really protective of Motown and Motown music. When I heard of this Latin remix I groaned, but thought I'd listen first before throwing up my hands in despair and organizing a mass protest. But, to my surprise, I actually like this remix! There is enough of the orginal beat that I can still sing loudly along and out of tune as I do with the rest of my Motown CDs.
If you are a Motown purist like I am, I don't think you will regret buying this latest remix.
A Mix Too Far.......2007-05-27
I'm a child of the 50's who grew up in the '60's with the 'Sound Of Young America" so generally I don't take too kindly to masterpieces being remixed! However there are a few exceptions like "Stoned Love" on "Motown Remixed Vol 1" and the brilliant remix of Marvin & Tammi's "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" on the new "Ashford and Simpson Songbook" but these are rare occurrences. IMHO there is no excuse for the total lack of respect for the classic tracks which have been completely destroyed in this latest volume which I sincerely hope will be the last. To me it's a bit like someone putting a wig & false nose on the Mona Lisa! It's a gimmick & one that gets my hackles rising as I'm convinced that it's all done for monetary gain and has no artistic merit whatsoever. "Motown Remixed Vol 2" has a Latin theme and to be honest there's only a couple of tracks that sound as though they weren't remixed by Humboldt Bear & PJ! What's next I wonder; heavy metal Motown, the punk side of Motown or Motown goes country? The mind boggles. OK now that I've got that off my chest I'll go back & lie down in a darkened room whilst listening to some plain, ordinary, natural, unmixed Motown. I suggest that you all do the same.
Finally-Remixes That Really Make Sense.......2007-05-23
Naturally when I first heard about the Motown Remixed project I was expecting yet another in a long line of remix albums featuring housy dance mixes.I was very enthusiastic to find the truth that a lot of respect was given to the Motor City classics on the first remix volume, which I heard but do not own.So needless to say I bought this.Vol.2 is a very different kind of musical affair-it takes songs like "Shotgun","Love Is Like A Heatwave","Don't Look Any Further" and even Diana Ross's disco hit "The Boss" and gives them a strong latin feel, complete with hot horns, salsa beats and in most cases alterations of the tempo. The original vocals, especially in the case of The Tempts "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" were sped up a bit to accomodate the quicker tempo-and this is a song covered by so many different people (and is usually done purely by rote to) over the years. The Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" is the only song here that actually keeps some of the orginal music intact, just accentuating the drums and adding more horns. On the other side of the coin "Dancing Machine" is presented drastically reworked into a frantic dance-salsa tempo.Only Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through The Grape Vine" has any trace of a typical house oriented remix but it's done in such as different way one won't even notice. On the most interesing note Smokey's "Being With You" is presented in a spanish language version called "Aqui Con Tigo",which I have never heard before, adding to the latin and hispanic theme of these remixes. That flavor gives these remixes the party atmosphere that permeated classic Motown and actually goes with the feeling of these songs very well. For any fan or Motown, especially one also interested in latin rhythms,or anyone interested in great songs done in a great way this collection will definately brighten your day.

The sequel to 2002's Verve Remixed follows and improves upon the original's formula; take material from the storied vaults at Verve Records and let top DJs of the modern era have at them. Featuring an impressive roster of dance artists like Miguel Migs, Koop, and Fila Brazillia, the trick is matching DJ with jazz standard in a way that compliments both. It's a tough chore, given the classics involved and the need to do them justice. On Sarah Vaughan's "Whatever Lola Wants," Gotan Project manage the task with distinction, filtering rustic and romantic accordions through the song's lusty machinations. Astute choices are required, like Mondo Grosso's decision to build a solid thump out of just the central melody of Archie Shepp's "Blues For Brother George Jackson." Sometimes, the best thing to do is get out of the way; Mr. Scruff's Soul Party Mix of "Do What You Wanna" only adds some background party noise to Ramsey Lewis' ripping keyboard solo. VR2 doesn't hit the mark every time, but the combinations that work accomplish what only the best dance music does--they crumble the walls between genres and encourage us all to get down together. --Matthew Cooke
Customer Reviews:
Five stars for one song.......2007-07-04
this CD is hit or miss. Mostly miss for me. However there is a big but in here. Big enough to give it five stars. If you are an Ella fan you have to part with the cash to hear what has been done with Slap that Bass. That one song is worth the price of admission
Volume 2.......2007-04-10
The first "Verve/Remixed" focused on Divas, mostly those of the Jazz genre. This disc deviates from that enjoyable formula by expanding to female pop singers, male vocalists, and instrumentalists.
VERVE/REMIXED 2 consists of 14 newly remixed songs. Disc packaged in clear jewel case; total running time: 72:08. Booklet does not include information about the original recordings (not even songwriting credits).
There are once again two remixes of Nina Simone recordings. There are also two Ella Fitzgerald recordings remixed. Several instrumental tracks are remixed - I don't get the point of that, but they are included here.
This sequel is not nearly as good as the original.
THE Verve.......2007-02-07
overall great album, my favorite of the series...
just the right tempo and selection of artists make this a perfect album for a chillout but up-beat enough session without falling asleep
Another good package.......2005-12-21
This is the second remixed CD from the Verve Remixed series. These tracks are still well mixed but I do find a few tracks which are quite noisy (a bit over-the-top). Still, I think there are enough good dance tracks to keep this CD in your stereo for sometime. If you are asking for more, then try getting the 'Complete Verve Remixed Box-Set' which comes in a package of four (3 + 1) CDs.
Yes!.......2005-11-06
So I don't listen to this kind of music very often, and I apologise if I'm being naiive or ignorant, but this is an extremely good CD. The first 5 songs are some of the best music I've heard in a long time, and I will definitely be picking up Remixed 3 after hearing this.

Both regal and raunchy, Queen was at the height of its powers in the mid-70s, riding the soaring vocals of Freddie Mercury, the ringing guitar crunch of Brian May and the band's shameless theatrical flourishes. Coming so quickly after the band's A Night At the Opera opus, this 1976 album works hard at repeating the same hit-making elements, down to the matching cover art. If A Day At the Races lacks the same level of pop tunesmanship, there is still energy in these tracks, particularly in the rocking "Tie Your Mother Down" and the emotional "Somebody to Love," which set a blueprint for future ballads by the band. --Steve Appleford

Customer Reviews:
Got my act all tight..........2007-06-18
I am very fond of this record but cannot overlook its flaws. It is definitively the poorer twin to its rousing predecessor, the amazing 'Night at the Opera' and does not warrant the five star status that 'Opera', 'Sheer Heart Attack' and 'II' so richly deserved. Released in December 1976, 'Races' was Queen's first as rock's newest superpower and for the most part it lives up to promise of past Queen triumphs. "Tie Your Mother Down" is a dynamite rocker, as kickass as the band would ever produce, a May track naturally with a stunning slide guitar solo. "Somebody to Love" became one of the band's greatest hits and is a take off on another tried and true musical form, gospel as "Bohemian Rhapsody" celebrated (or parodied) opera. The multi-tracked vocals of Freddie, Roger and Brian have been much discussed and admired. "White Man" is another brutal hard rocker whose main riff also serves as the album intro...a coming attractions so to speak (as does "Teo Torriate"). Along with "Somebody", Freddie also contributes "You Take My Breath Away" (which can also be seen as the "Love of My Life" of 'Days'), "The Millionaire Waltz" and "Good Old Fashioned Lover-Boy", all very good tracks but nothing Queen hadn't done better (though "Waltz" is fascinating in its switch from schmaltzy Lawrence Welk to metal!). Brian sings "Long Away" which is pretty cool. John Deacon offers up "You and I", (kinda decent but again nothing special) and Roger Taylor gives "Drowse" (which sucks!) and that is why this album is a letdown from the previous classics, the overall song quality isn't there. 'Days' is classic Queen, but again not one of their alltime classics, from a purely album standpoint. Both remixes are useless by the way, they add nothing to the originals. What no outtakes???
Classic Queen!.......2007-06-18
This is Queen at the time of their best work. Always remember, 'A Day At The Races' is the black colored album, 'A Night At The Opera' is the white colored album. Classic Queen humor. "Somebody to Love" will always be one of Freddie's best vocal materpieces. This is when the group was true to harmonizing effects without sithizers. Long Away is brilliant. You have to at least listen one time thru stereo headphones to really get the best sound experience you'll ever have. I love every song!
A Night at the Opera The Sequel and it's equal.......2007-02-13
Just as good as the previous record. Sounds like it was recorded at the same sessions. Instead of following up a classic, they recreated one.
Lost Treasure.......2006-11-19
Due to A Night at The Opera's huge success and a string several major hits after A Day at the Races, this album seems to have been lost in all the noise. I own the vinyl record and am finally upgrading to the CD after all these years. Freddie Mercury's soaring vocals and piano work on When I'm Gone goes as one of the most underrated, yet wonderful songs on the album. It is the main reason I purchased the CD. There are several gems on this album, I highly recommend it.
Classic Album with the highest standards.......2006-11-12
A have to have album for all fans. This album should have had more hits and more radio play. Long Away was released as a single in the U.S. but it did nothing . Tie your mother down is one of the best hard rock tunes ever. I never get tired of it. A great album to sing all the words to.

Daughter of original Bossa Nova legends Joao Gilberto and Miucha, niece of the great singer-songwriter Chico Burque, Bebel Gilberto's talents have proven more than worthy of her exalted descent. She has not only helped to revitalize modern Brazilian music but has established it as a major force on the world stage. But are these 13 remixes worthy of her? The answer is a qualified yes. The whole point of this type of exercise is to reveal new facets of an existing track by inviting another artist to collaborate on it--after the fact. Everyone involved with these re-workings displays considerable taste and restraint; thus any negative impressions would have to be completely subjective. The originals were produced by Marius de Vries and were comparatively pop-oriented anyway. Gently-imposed beats and touches of chilly electronica do not freeze the singer's digital hothouse bloom but add an additional dimension. Some tunes, such as Céu Distante, even emerge embellished with a surprisingly genteel, retro finesse. --Christina Roden

I'm praying for a part 2.......2007-07-14
I adore this album. It's a cross between a vacation and a fantasy for me.
Either way, it works out.
Pretty good!.......2007-05-29
It's definately different from what our American "remixes" are like-- which is kind of what I was expecting-- but I do like it. Great musician.
Bebel gets an electronica makeover.......2007-01-06
What is it about remixes that we typically like that didn't exist on the original? Many like the new flavor to a familiar song, the addition of more groove, the rearranging of beats, the phasing in and out of other genres like nu-jazz and spacey electronic elements that result in a complete redeux: a complete makeover if you will, new and improved shake-your-booty music results when it is successfully rearranged. Such is the case with this fine bit of bossa-nova-nu-jazz inspired electronica that features the sensual vocal stylings of Bebel Gilberto. Her of the soft as a whisper sexy musings comes across between the remix like a purring kitten; she is just too hard to resist. Originals are just that and should not be compared. Especially tasty songs include Thievery Corporations "Cada Beijo" that features soft jazzy-samba grooves that are like a sunset on Rio, the catchy "Aganju" gets a new sound that gets a hip-hop-hicup makeover for an interesting nu-groove and the Tom Middleton's Cosmos mix of "Simplemente" is a crafty reinterpretation of the original. The songs in English (7) are very nice but there is someting that is lost when Bebel switches languages , personally I prefer her offerings in Portuguese, I guess it adds to the exotic nature of her music. If you liked "Tanto Tiempo" than you probably will like these dancefloor versions. The bonus is a mini-disc that features six more dance floor remixes of the same songs with the irresitible "Aranju" getting the makeover twice. If you like Brazilian music and remixes than you will probably like this offering by six degrees that is a bargain.
Revisiting Bebel Gilberto.......2006-09-11
This album has a softer feel than the "Tanto Tempo Remixes" that were obviously for the dancefloor."Bebel Gilberto Remixed" is a perfect chill-out CD,perfect for relaxing&drinking mojitos.
The highlights are DJ Spinna's "Ceu Distante",Latin Project's "Aganju",Telefon Tel Aviv's "All Around"&Steven Hillier's almost folk music version of "Next to you." Guy Sigsworth's "O Caminho" reflects Burt Bacharach's "The Look of Love" in its opening keyboard chords.Latin Project's take on "Aganju" better suits the piece than Spiritual South's boringly repetitive one.Stuhr's version of "Jabuticaba" was on Putumayo's World Music Hour;it's as frothy&dancy as the original.
The bonus disc offers dub versions of songs already on the remix.I was fortunate to get a copy of "Bebel Gilberto Remixed" with the special edition bonus disc before it ran out! This is a must for Brazilian music fans;it's very loungy and relaxing.
Great Listening, Even After Repeated Listens.......2006-07-24
I've heard alot of remixes in my life time. They're usually exciting the first couple of times you listen and then they get boring after that. In a nut shell; they're usually pretty obsoletist.
On the other hand, the remixes on this CD are quite excellent. I haven't gotten tired of listening to this CD, even after repeated listens. It's one of the best remix albums I've ever heard, and I can only think of two really great remix albums (the other being Remix Dystempter by Skinny Puppy).
My favorites are "Winter" (Nuspirit Helsinki Reinterpretation) and "Baby" (Yam Who?). I get goose bumps whenever I listen.
Don't pass this CD up if your a fan of Downtempo, Bossa Nove, Deep House, Etc. It's a must have CD for fans of these genre's.
The only down-note I can think of, about this CD, is that most people haven't even heard of Bebel Gilberto. Most people will never hear it, even alot of people into club music. But, oh well, I guess it's a buried treasure for us open minded people to enjoy.

The manipulation of classic jazz tracks has been part of DJ club culture since the '80s, as artists have continually scratched, looped, and sampled beats and phrases. Verve Remixed has been in the planning stages for years, with in-house producers inviting an international cast of remix artists to select songs from the label's vaults. The results are often tremendously successful, as the remix artists have picked up and expanded upon elements already present in the original. The funky Latin beat of Willie Bobo's "Spanish Grease" gets new life from Richard Dorfmeister, along with a prominent new bass line. Similarly, King Britt pumps up the Indian elements of Tony Scott's "Hare Krishna." dZihan and Kamien's trance remix (with tabla drums) of Billie Holiday's "Don't Explain" is among the most arresting tracks, creating psychodrama between Holiday's original vocal and the new environment. Nina Simone's voice seems tailor-made for this approach, as if it has always cried out for the layered rhythmic emphasis. Masters at Work's take on her "See-Line Woman" is electric in its intensity--cool flute sonorities and metallic percussion embrace and catapult the original vocal into a new presence. --Stuart Broomer
Customer Reviews:
Verve Remix.......2007-01-10
This is the third time I have puchased this particular CD and HIGHLY recommend it. It takes the classic jazz stylings of the most popular artists in their day and blends it with todays house/dance music. The combination is soulful and catchy. You won't be disappointed!
Exceptional Lounge!.......2006-07-01
A must have for your collection: From Tricky's FUNKINESS with Billie Holiday's Strange Fruit To the LAID BACK COOLNESS of Sarah Vaughn's SummerTime remix by UFO. You will enjoy the sounds... Please take note that if you are a top-40 junky these tunes are probably NOT for you.
Worst of the series.......2006-04-27
I have all three of the "Verve Remixed" CDs. This one is the worst. On this CD, I just cannot see the point of mangling these old recordings. I found no compelling rhythms at all.
By contrast, the #2 and #3 CDs in the series are great. I find this puzzling. Usually, sequels suck. In this case, the musicheads at Verve seem to have improved their game with practice. I respect them for that. Now I'll just start up Remixed #3 and bliss out for a while.
Brilliantly Groovy and Funky !.......2006-02-20
Not many CD's make you heart skip a beat the moment you listen to them. This is definitely one of those rare finds. And this is why:
1) The quality of the original (unmixed) tracks is superb. Great songs to begin with.
2) The remixes do great justice to the original songs and performers. There's a great deal of respect to these legendary performers and their voices in the remixes.
3) The quality of these remixes is outstanding.
The result is unbelievable. You'll get an incredibly well-produced compilation of jazz hits from SUPER-performers such as Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, and Billie Holiday remixed by MEGA-DJ's/producers like Rae & Christian, dZihan & Kamien, De-Phazz, Thievery Corporation, King Britt, UFO, Funky Lowlives, etc...
BUT BEWARE, the sound is not jazz (maybe nu-jazz or electro-jazz, but not jazz). It is definitely sexy, groovy, funky, retro-cool, classy electronic music with touches of jazz. Perfect for any situation. Pre-party warm-up at home, martini-drinking at a nice lounge, people-watching at THE white party in South Beach, or maybe simply at home working on your laptop.
This CD is sooo good, it's gonna make you feel hip, cool, and sexy...But all that BS aside, the track selection, remixes, and overall production quality make of this album a TRUE GEM. Go get it.
Pretty impossible to put down..........2006-01-12
The idea of taking a "classic" track and updating it for club consumption isn't new and the road to success is littered with the burnt-out wrecks of failure. But when it works, as it does on most of the tracks here, the results can be quite magical.
So, what makes it work? Well, in the case of Richard Dorfmeister's stunning interpretation of Willie Bobo's "Spanish Grease" it's understanding why the original is so infectious and then overlaying & seriously extending these elements with the very best of electronica/dance to make it... much better. Or in the case of Thievery Corporation's total rework of Astrud Gilberto's "Who Needs Forever?" its taking a couple of phrases from the song that capture the atmosphere & essence of the artist and using them to produce something that, while it bears little relation to the original, becomes one of the very best Astrud Gilberto tracks you'll ever hear.
Clever & brilliantly effective, the whole album is stuffed full of similarly impressive remixes by some of the best club artists around and, if you like this sort of thing, it's an absolute "must buy". And, if you don't, it may well make you think again because once it gets its hooks into you it's pretty impossible to put down.

Reinvention Is The Spice Of Music.......2007-07-21
This first in what I hope is a long line of many Motown remix CD's.Since the album is a set of fifteen distinct remixes the best way I can think to review this is cut by cut so.....phew here I go:
I WANT YOU BACK-Unlike the J5's classic original this one is far more stripped down to allow the groove to shine through and the vocals to stick right out at you.
I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE-Randy Watson really threw on the latin percussion very heavily for this one-again the groove is emphasized over the production.
LET'S GET IT ON-NO DISRESPECT toward Marvin Gaye;he was THE MAN!!!!But I find this mix of his 1973 to be far more sophisticated then his orignal.By 1973 the music on the original still had a very strong 60's flavor. This smooth kind of early 80'ish pop/soul backdrop actually brings out the raw sexuallity of the original to a more pronounced degree.
SIGNED SEALED DELIVERED I'M YOURS-DJ Smash really let go the heavy turn table funk let loose and the beats slam at you the same way Stevie's as always animated singing did.
ABC-Krunk was at it's peak when this was made and it shows;basically it turns out to be a mere update of the J5's equally slamming, funky original!
I JUST WANT TO CELEBRATE-This is amazing! The collage of sound and wah wah's make for more of a heavy funk version then the originals more rockish sound!
PAPA WAS A ROLLING STONE-Yes this appeared on the new Motown Remixed, Vol. 2 but this version didn't get the recognition that the new one did;this being more of a straight modernization of the original then the new version. But I love both and they sound fantastic.
QUIET STORM-Not that Smokey's wasn't chilled out enough this one does so even more by stripping back about 75& of what little music was already there and leaving you with little more then Smokey's emotional delivery and style.
MY WORLD IS EMPTY WITHOUT YOU-This is really a novel concept;take a girl group sounding song from 1966 and make it sound like a girl group song of 2005.However Diana's vocals have the genuine passion and lack the caterwalling melodrama of most female singers who would sing this kind of thing today.
JUST MY IMAGINATION-Again a pleasant update of the original;this song sounds great no matter what.
SMILING FACES SOMETIMES-For everyone who thought this song always needed a beat well that's what you'll get here. The song is virtually unchanged except for the addition of a "funky drummer".
THE TEARS OF A CLOWN- This drum n bass style mix really does justice to the style of the original;the way it might have been recorded had it been written today.
KEEP ON TRUCKIN-The approch DJ Spinna takes with this is somewhat different;he keeps 95% of the original music intact but instead of adding upon it he ELIMINATES horns, wah wahs and other production devices from the original for a more genuinely funky style
MARY JANE-This is really the only remix on the album that suffers badly from too much DJ'ing over the original and doesn't really say much for the original.
Well there you have my two cents!
Great tribute to classic R&B tunes.......2007-05-20
DJ mixes of classic R&B tunes that really honor what the songs are. I'm not a big fan of DJs and I rarely spend time at clubs without live music. Theses remixes are really accessible.
too hawt!.......2007-04-28
i love these remixes! they are respectful, yet imaginative. especially the take on 'my world is empty without you' by the supremes. this song, as well as others, are songs that i can't figure out how folks danced to them. they're not percussive enough for the 'jerk', not fast enough for the 'pony' and too fast for 'bopping'. but this remix is made for one thing and one thing only--the almost lost 'slow dance'. you could really get lost in someone special to this beautiful new take on a classic! and 'mary jane' and 'signed, sealed, delivered' are made for hard core work on the dance floor, retro style.
not to be overlooked!
Gere.......2007-04-11
This is possibly the best remix album I've heard. Content and quality are both there
Not a good remix.......2007-03-08
This is one of the few remixes that left me hanging. There was no imagination. What's the point?

Though variously rooted in hip-hop, rave and dance clubs sensibilities, the art of mixology has evolved into a potent staple of contemporary pop music. That mainstreaming reached a new zenith with the release of the first installment of Verve Remixed in 2002 and continued to expand via two subsequent collections of eclectic jazz/r&b-rooted remixes that found a growing, enthusiasitc audience at public radio and other adult-oriented radio outlets. This set compiles those three savory, largely down-tempo anthologies of jazz-dj fusion, from the reworked takes on classic vocalists like Fitzgerald, Vaughn and Holiday that dominated the first set to the follow-up editions' more expansive palette, rounding it out with a bonus disc of previously unreleased session outtakes (including Raw Deal's playful reworking of Ramsey Lewis' "1-2-3" and Cal Tjader's "Los Banditos" in an electro-dizzy revamp by Michael Reinboth) and extended mixes of others. Also included on that disc are videos for "Is You Is, Or Is You Ain't My Baby" by Rae&Christian/Dinah Washington, Felix Da Housecat's slinky house take on Nina Simone's "Sinnerman" and Sarah Vaughn's "Fever" as retooled by Adam Freeland. A groove-savvy collection whose compelling mash-ups of history and fashion succeed in fusing some disparate audiences as well. --Jerry McCulley

Nu Jazz Remixed.......2007-05-14
Totally Wired? not really... Nu Jazz is getting very big in central Europe right now and this pack sounds great under the Greek sun.
The Complete Verve Remixed Deluxe Box.......2007-05-14
I was very disappointed by the sound of the music. I really want Ms. Washington's " Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby" and that was a CD Rom Video portion. The rest of the music was awful.
Legendary remixes... brilliant .......2007-01-23
This is rated one of my top favorite remix albums eveerrr.... I'm phycho about these albums. It's genius, classic. The epitomy of what I personally am searching for in this genre of music. Haunting, mellow, rythyms and melodys that stay with you. relentless beats, that drill dreamlike into your mind. Very cool. transforming already beautiful old original songs into something more captured.
Great stuff.......2006-10-06
I *LOVE* this box set and it's a great deal for anyone who does not already own a couple of the discs. This series represents a beautiful synthesis of two great kinds of music: jazz that ranges from straight to swing to funky, and electronic music ranging from ambient to hip hop to IDM.
The "bonus" disc is pretty much a waste and it will not be leaving the box again for a while in my house. In other words, if you already have all three, don't bother buying this set.
A Forward Looking Nod to the Past.......2006-05-28
Oh, how I love the Verve remix albums. As did many, I actually purchased Verve Remixed 1, 2, and 3 separately but am thrilled to see that they can now all be had together, with a bonus disk to boot. Curse those evil geniuses at Verve! I can see that I'll be donating my individual Verve Remixed CDs to friends and will be picking up this master collection for myself. $30 well spent in my opinion.
This is such an amazing collection of music. If you are an electronic enthusiast looking to get a little culture injected into your daily listening, then this collection is most certainly for you. Who knew that modern day electronica artists and jazz legends would prove to be so perfectly matched? Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughan, Astrud Gilberto, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie meet Postal Service, Bent, Brazilian Girls, Miguel Migs, Koop, Jaffa, Felix Da Housecat, Thievery Corporation, De-Phazz, Tricky and Carl Craig. The result? Some of the most amazing impress-your-friends dinner and house party music ever created.
So c'mon, do it. Click "add to cart". You will NOT be disappointed.
