      I enjoy classical, chamber, vocal, and jazz on a high-end system. I found myself listening to this disk over and over again, and appreciating new nuances of creative writing each time. The music combines elements of jazz and chamber ensemble playing (think Haydn or Mozart), and while there are lots of melodic theme treatments, as in good chamber music, it is the creative use of rhythm and changes in rhythmic patterns that makes these works outstanding. Some pieces are reminiscent of Scott Joplin, while others presage John Adams, and all are uniquely satisfying. They are also well-performed, and the sound quality is superb.

            Walton (and Sitwell's) Facade is a delightful entertainment and nowhere better than here with all the extra poems that Walton set.
            If you have never heard the piece before - it takes a little effort - but that is well worth the time.
            The settings are witty and apposite. Stilgoe and Bron are the perfect pair to recite - I suspect few of the listeners in the US will have heard of them - except Stilgoe has written lyrics for Lloyd Webber.
            I encourage you to try this CD - I am sure you will enjoy it.

            The debut album from UK-based production duo Black Grass collects material from their three stellar 12" single releases on the Catskills label to create a thrilling variety of sounds and styles. Like their fellow underground UK dance producers Quantic & Skeewiff, Black Grass take an 'anything goes' approach, mixing up funky breaks, reggae, hip hop, neo-soul and tinges of jazz. Not quite accomplishing the vision and signature style of Quantic, but also not indulging into the cheeky cheese that is Skeewiff's mark in trade, Black Grass are a welcome addition to the contemporary dance music canon. Great for grown folks who love to shake their thangs. Perfect party music.

            This is an absolutely wonderful debut CD. It continues to resonate with this listner and remains in the CD player long after its initial purchase. While I've never seen her live, the CD retains the fresh immediate experience of a live show. Sawicki draws from several genres, but primarily relies on folk/bluegrass. At certain moments one can almost feel the toe-tapping crowd, the sounds of clinking beer bottles, and an artist having fun with her audience.

            Sawicki has been compared to other artists such as Joni Mitchell and Gillian Welch. While these comparisons will generally provide an introduction to new listners, Sawicki is a unique and worthy artist in her own right. She has a beautiful voice that is extensively used in widely varying ways. Her voice will capture the listner, and is highly effective when standing on its own with minimal musical back-up.

            Sawicki's music comes from a deeply personal place. It is her content that will ultimately stay with the listner. She is able to convey images, moods, and varying levels of emotion.

            I am sure there will be much more coming from this artist.
