About the Artist
Created in the spring of 2002, Yamama'Nym has meteorically risen and claimed a regional and growing national distinction of being not just another band spewing from the Baltimore/DC music scene, but being one of its most promising best live Soul acts, hands down.
Hand picked by Tre Barr (producer/writer) and Dennis Turner (music director/bass player), Yamama'nym, was formed as an collective of eclectic musicians and vocalist with diverse musical backgrounds. Combining sultry southern soulful sounds with a touch of uptown Jazz and downtown R&B swagger, healthy servings of soul, and pinches of divinity, Yamama'Nym is headed in the right direction. With exceptionally vibrant vocalists, and perhaps some of the best live musicians in all the land, Yamama'Nym evoke feelings of 70's nostalgia and New Millennium attitude with their youthful appearance, yet seasoned performances, often being compared to acts of past and present the way they bring the overall Yamama'Nym experience to fans. Over the past year and a half, they have played on many stages abroad and have left their signature "Soulful" style sticking to the noggins of unsuspecting audiences. Staying hungry and humble, paying their dues Yamama' Nym travels the map to bring 'real' music to those who have been longing for it.
With Yamama'Nym's highly acclaimed debut album "2A.M."(Outta Control Entertainment 2003) reaching the hearts and minds of Soul aficionados in the U.S. over to the Canary Islands, from the U.K. to Japan the band's strengths of Soul, R&B, Jazz and Hip Hop help drive their musical vision to an ever expanding and embracing audience. 'It is a perfect blend of soul and jazz. It's what's been missing from today's popular R&B' (fan, cdbaby.com).
Now with the sophomore album under way the band has kept it's definition and at the same time upgrade and fine tuned. The 2nd project, titled "Due Time", (expected to be released late 2004/early 2005) has add funkier up tempo songs, with the signature mid tempo grooves and new soul touching ballads. The music moves with pulsating rhythms by Marcus Jackson on drums and Dennis Turner on bass combined with melodies by Samuel Prather on keys. And adding the finishing touch, dynamic vocal blessings of veteran Alison Carney along with newcomers J Hill, Liz Miller, and K.J. Dennis (doing double duty on second keys and vocals) . This release presents the group's creative, innovative, and groundbreaking style that will further open "Mama' s House" and invite the world to sit down and take a real good listen to Yamama'Nym.

One of Barry's Best recordings!.......2007-05-26
For the uninformed listener who can only think of "Mandy" and "Copa" when they hear Barry Manilow's name 2:00AM Paradise Cafe will a pleasant surprise. This is the CD I listen to when I want the finesse of smooth jazz but with the added Manilow magic. I wish there were more music like this from the premier entertainer of our century. Mr. Manilow's musical catalog never ceases o amaze me.
the short list.......2007-02-02
This is on my short list for the desert island. After all of these years this is one of my very favorites. It is too bad Barry isn't writing songs anymore. This is an exceptional album that is only burnished by time.
Paradise Cafe.......2006-11-06
This is one of the best smooth jazz CD's Ive heard, particularly the duet with Mel Torme. All of the selection are excellent and the back up group, especially Gerry Mulligan is superb. A must have CD.
Wow!.......2006-08-08
If this isn't one of the finest jazz recordings in history, I don't know what is.
Recorded in one take, with the exceptions of Mel Torme's and Sarah Vaughaun's pieces, this album incorporates some of the saddest, coolest pieces of jazz music ever recorded.
The musical phrasing is amazing. Mulligan's saxophone is so mournful, it sounds at times like a melancholy cello. The guitar work is brilliant. The drums subtle. The piano sublime.
Manilow once told the story of how he wrote the music to "When October Goes". If I remember the story right, Johnny Mercer's widow brought him the short poem, saying her husband wanted Manilow to write the music. Manilow sat down at the piano and, 15 minutes later, the tune was complete.
No wonder the ancient Greeks believed in the muse. Amazing.
And every time I hear the opening bars of piano, I swear I can see in my mind's eye the colored red and yellow leaves of fall floating down to earth on a chilled breeze.
Manilow's vocals are from a time when his voice was clearest and his vibrato tightest. The duets with Sarah Vaughaun and Mel Torme are etherial.
This album is special. Enjoy!
Juicy Barry-Jazz.......2006-08-06
Barry continues to display his versatility as the superbly talented artist he is with this very different Manilow album, a fine collection of jazz. Eleven mighty-fine arrangements, all music by Barry. All are hauntingly soft and beautiful melodies that you might hear in a cocktail lounge during the wee small hours of the morning. We are all familiar with the peaceful "When October Goes," the only song included which is not jazz, in my opinion, but it fits nicely into this album.
Guest stars on the album include the Greats: Sara Vaughan and Mel Torme. "Blue" is the duet between Barry & Ms. Vaughan. "Big City Blues" is Barry's duet with Mr. Torme. Both songs are well crafted and are also soft cocktail jazz.
A booklet is included with the words to all the songs, so you can sing along with Barry and his friends. As you read through the booklet and the cover note, you will see how very proud Barry is of this very special album, the concept and title of which first came to him in a dream. And what a fantastic collection of music it is!
A fine album for a quiet night and a glass of wine, with that special someone. Mmmmm.

what a beautiful cd. i just love how yamama'nym works together as a group to form the most amazing sound. its a jazzy vibe with great instrumentation. highly recommend
A Huge Fan.......2003-10-24
I had the priveledge of hearing Yamama'nym perform live, and as soon as I walked through the door I was a huge fan. This band gave one of the best live perfromances I've seen and had me standing up and dancing throughout. The blend of soul, jazz and funk made it almost inpossible to stay in your seat and had the entire croud singing along with them at the top of their lungs. Although they are young, every member of this band is an accomplished musician and does a great job portraying the emotions of every song to the crowd. This band makes great music!
Supreme!!!!!!.......2003-08-26
Let me begin by saying that I am very proud to be related to Alison C., one of the very talented vocalists of this group. I must admit, when I first heard about it, I was skeptical, but after listening to the intro and the first song on the CD, I was captivated. 2:00 am is soulful, sultry and filled with the kind of music your mama and them used to listen to. Mr. Incredible, song number 7 is my absolute favorite on the CD. If you want to hear some new urban flavor, strong vocals and vibrant instruments pick this one up. Yamama'nym will be around for years to come. I love this CD, it's how I get going in the morning and how I wind down at night.
Incredible........2003-08-14
This is an incredible album, with 2AM, I see good music coming back over the horizon. Check out the track "Mr. Incredible, Mr. Invincible" You'll love it, I gaurentee.
You have to hear this album!.......2003-08-08
I assure anyone reading this, once you've experienced Yamama'nym's 2:00am, it'll be on repeat for weeks (maybe even months) in your cd player. Even if you decide to listen to it once, it has melodies and rhythms that are so polished they'll stick in your head long after the CD has stopped spinning.
