Those who don't know any better are apt to dismiss Deborah Cox as another R&B/dance diva determined to cling to the spotlight by whatever means necessary, including a giant genre-leap. Those who've been listening carefully, though, will check their doubts at Destination Moon's door. On this, her fourth disc, Cox sidles up to jazz--the jazz of her role model Dinah Washington--with subtlety and surefooted grace; along the way, she makes something of a masterpiece. From classics such as the title track to lesser-known but deeply felt compositions such as "I Don't Hurt Anymore," she avoids the temptation to rub a modern sheen over these songs and settles contentedly into the mood Washington carved for them instead. "This Bitter Earth" gets the "mm-hmm" treatment Dinah delivered so well, and "Misery" and "New Blowtop Blues" don't dream of belying their blueswoman roots. Best of all are the more delicate tracks: "Look to the Rainbow" captivates with a contemplative sadness, and "Blue Skies" is a natural wonder as beautiful as a dose of pure azure on a cloudless day. --Tammy La Gorce

Album Description

Platinum-selling recording artist Deborah Cox reinterprets the classic songs of Dinah Washington on her Decca debut, Destination Moon. Destination Moon thrusts the R&B/dance diva into whole new territory, showcasing her range and scope as an artist capable of tackling jazz, blues and "big-band" with ease and confidence. Deborah Cox's first exposure to Washington came very early, when she was a little girl. "I first became aware of Dinah when I was growing up, when I was about 8 or 9 years old" she says. "A lot of jazz was played about the house. I heard my mother playing a 45 of "This Bitter Earth" -- this first song I had ever heard from Dinah. It was the richness and the tonality of her voice that I gravitated to." For the arrangements and the production, Deborah turned to the highly-versatile New York-based music man Rob Mounsey, whose credits with such diverse performers include Paul Simon, Steely Dan, Aretha Franklin and Tony Bennett to name a few. The record was made live in the studio, with 40 musicians in the same room with her, playing and singing in real time under Mounsey's direction. "I'm doing this to broaden people's awareness of what I can do and also for the sheer love of her music." As a result, Deborah's homage to Dinah Washington does not lean overwhelmingly toward one particular style. It was designed from the beginning to be a compendium of several of Dinah's idioms - the big-band swing of "All Of Me" and "Destination Moon," swaggering R&B ("I Don't Hurt Anymore)," the blues that earned her the misleading nickname "Queen of the Blues" ("Misery," "New Blowtop Blues"), the lush ballads that put her on the jukeboxes of Middle America ("What A Diff'rence A Day Made," "This Bitter Earth").

5 out of 5 stars Deborah Does Dinah By Way Of Dianne.......2007-08-04

I was completely unfamiliar with Deborah Cox before purchasing this c.d. Considering that she hadn't released a c.d.in 3 years, this oversight was somewhat understandable.

It's an oversight that will be no more.

After about 16 bars, the comparison of Deborah Cox with Dianne Reeves was undeniable. Meaning, first of all, if you love Dianne Reeves (and if you don't, what in the hell is wrong with you?!), most assuredly you will love Deborah Cox. (This c.d. also compares very favorably with the more famous Gladys Knight's c.d., "Before Me", of 2006)

This is a tribute album to Dinah Washington, and Ms. Cox is every bit the singer that the late, great Ms. Washington was. Whether singing jazz (a great version of Harry Warren's "September in the Rain"), soul ("Misery") blues ("New Blowtop Blues", my favorite on this c.d.) or cabaret (a show-stopping rendition of the great torch song, "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes"), Ms. Cox has impressive chops to display, and display them she does.

And a huge thumbs up to Rob Mounsey, the producer, arranger, pianist, and assistant recording engineer. This c.d. just sounds fabulous. Although the arrangements at time threaten to be a bit slick, overblown and familiar, they never cross the line. Mr. Mounsey deserves mention in the same breath with John Clayton, Jr.

More importantly, Ms. Cox (like Ms. Reeves) has a huge voice, and thus she works best with a lot of sound behind her. Ms. Cox sounds like a class act, and based on the photos in the liner notes, looks like one, too.

If [...] had a 4 and 1/2 star rating, that's where I'd end up. This is, after all, old wine in new bottles. There's nothing here I haven't heard before. But what an impressive new bottle this is! 5 stars, just for that. RC

5 out of 5 stars Sensually, The Next Unforgetable.......2007-08-03

This past year, there just haven't been so much but only hype with female recording artists. It is sad and unfortunate, because it seems like the sound of the music doesn't deliver well. With acts like Kelly Clarkson and Beyonce' who've made records, they just missed a little something to deliver to everyone, especially in R&B and standards too. For Deborah Cox, the past several years have been a bit difficult for her. After her departure from BMG and Arista, she did bounce back by performing in the final production of Elton John & Tim Rice's Aida in 2004-2005. Now, she also returned in a whole new way by bringings that standards back in real soul and R&B. however, does this album click, or fall down, it shines very bright.

Deborah Cox's 2007 Destination Moon, is her debut on the acclaimed Decca Records. The album pays a sensual tribute to Jazz songstress Dinah Washington, and delivers. The mood from Deborah's voice, delivers the more seductive and sensual performance she has made ever, and makes the mark well. The album includes great standards, and even some surprises that also made the record work. The orchestral feel mixes in tune nicely, and in such a way that it hasn't been heard this elequently since Natalie Cole's Unforgetable With Love. The album includes the title track Destination Moon, as well as the Jazz rendered Squeeze Me, Blue Skies, and a stirring rendition of a song that was more well known from the 50's group The Platters which Washington also recorded during her era, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes. Every track feels like it is a special treat, and something Deborah Cox shines in very brightly. My only gripe about the record is that is is just a bit too short, leaving listeners really going wild for more from Deborah's beautiful voice. But it is much better than most other albums released this past year, and 10x better than standards albums from Barry Manilow and Rod Stewart that surfaced a few years ago.

All in all, I really hope Deborah Cox keeps making great records like Destination Moon. I really love this record so much, it delivers from an angel. It is a great buy for die hard Deborah Cox fans, and fans of the classic Jazz-like Soul style from years ago that hasn't been heard on the radio for years. This is definitely so far the best album of 2007, and something that looks to the rainbow nicely.

I was so totally impressed with her voice and her style. Jazz is definitely Deborah Cox' forte'!! I bought two and gave one to a friend who feels exactly the same way. Hope to hear more from her along the "Jazz" lines....

5 out of 5 stars Love her voice.......2007-07-18

I guess I'm a big sucker for souful, strong, powerful voice. Me loving this album proves it again. It's all jazz standards, nothing new. In the past year, getting new albums from Diana Ross, Natalie Cole, Diana Krall, it's like one disappointment after another. So when I heard this new album, I was more than happily surprised how good it is. If you're a fan of jazz standards, I bet you'll like this one.

5 out of 5 stars Deborah Shines.......2007-07-05

From her self-titled debut, to One Wish, to The Morning After to Destination Moon, Deborah's albums are like mini-greatest hits compilations, and Deborah scores again with her interpretations of Dinah Washington's songs on Destination Moon. Deborah has the best voice in contemporary music today, and this album continuously showcases her incredible range and talent. Personal favorites will include the title track, "Misery", and "This Bitter Earth". The album's best songs are "What a Difference a Day Makes" and the closing "Look to the Rainbow". Flawless from start to finish, Deborah again creates a masterpiece.

Deborah Cox's self-titled debut made waves back in 1995, but perhaps not enough to prepare her for a much more crowded (and cutthroat) playing field this time around. As much as you want to applaud her for sticking to her soul on One Wish, you can't help longing for a pop crossover hit like "Sentimental" and "Who Do U Love?" The first single, "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here," is a disappointing attempt, but "September" and the title track--which ups the ante on the funk--step up to the challenge. Naughty by Nature's Kay-Gee helms the boards on the Next-flavored ballad, "It's Over Now," and R.L. of Next cameos on "We Can't Be Friends," a classic-style duet that has all the ingredients for a melodic masterpiece. --Rebecca Wallwork

5 out of 5 stars The Most Slept-on R&B artist.......2007-06-12

Deborah Cox is THE MOST slept-on R&B artist out there. She has one of the greatest, strongest voices but gets very minimal air play. I own all of her CDs and have no complaints about any of them. This is a great R&B album and anyone who loves R&B needs this CD.

4 out of 5 stars Underrated Classic..........2006-08-14

Deborah Cox's "One Wish" can easily be dubbed a sleeper but in my opinion, she shows no signs of weariness on this album. "One Wish" is an album that is perfectly punctuated with depth and has an intricate way of maintaining the listener's interest. With a unique and cohesive array of diversity, which include writing and production from herself, Naughty By Nature & Next's producer Kier Gist (a.k.a. KayGee), hit-makers Montell Jordan, Shep Crawford, Stevie J., Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins," and even Diane Warren, who lends the schmaltzy ballad, "One Day You Will," "One Wish" explores love and relationships from a deeper perspective. I love how she uses her voice to not only dazzle the audience, but also becomes one with each songs' persona. I was like, "I may be a male, but even I can relate to how expressive she is!" The Dance-fused "September," with its keen bass line, slickly synthesized guitars and eclectic rhythms tells the story of how a friendship transforms from a platonic nature to an emotional thrill ride of sensuous lovemaking, whereas "We Can't Be Friends" showcases Deborah & R.L. (of Next) passionately and vividly testifying the hardships of walking away from a special someone. Other cuts include 1998's longest-running radio single, "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here," (penned exquisitely by Montell Jordan) her second single, "It's Over Now," (produced by KayGee) the title-track, "One Wish," which features DJ Quik's solid production and stellar rap vocals, Darkchild's "Just When I Think I'm Over You," a clever reference to Rod Temperton & Michael Jackson's "Rock With You" in "Love Is On The Way" and the smooth "I Won't Give Up." The only flaw to this record is that there were one too many dance versions included. The remixes to "Things Just Ain't The Same" & "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here" could have been omitted. Regardless, "One Wish" is a fabulous record that was an absolutely underrated classic.

2 out of 5 stars One of R&B's best kept secrets........2005-12-26

I do agree with another reviewer that Canadian native Deborah Cox is one of R&B's most underrated singers. I was extremely dissapointed and angry at Clive Davis for underpromoting her (he even dropped her from his label J Records!) when she actually has a better voice than labelmate Whitney Houston. "One Wish" is a great contemporary R&B album featuring some Hip Hop ("One Wish" featuring Snoop Dogg), Jazz ("I Won't Give Up"), Adult Contemporary ("One Day You Will") and straight R&B ("Nobody's Supposed To Be Here"--originally written for Patti LaBelle). Her voice is phenominal. She can softly whisper like Mariah but also belt out like Celine. A lot of the songs have potential hit. Another favorite of mine is the mild Urban hit "We Can't Be Friends" featuring Next group (also an underrated R&B act) member R.L. Overall if you liked Deborah's radio hits I strongly reccomend this album. I really think it's her best. Overall grade: B+

5 out of 5 stars One Wish.......2005-05-17

I remember this album when I was in the 6th grade. I fell in love with the album especially the hit single (Nobody's Supposed To Be Here). Deborah experimented with incorporating these new elements into her musical style. One Wish is a perfect mix of different influences-old-school R&B,hip-hop,gospel,dance,and jazz. This album is a tremendous growth from her gold debut album. This album has been certified Platinum. Remember, this was 1998-1999.

5 out of 5 stars WOW!!! WHAT A GREAT ALBUM AND A WONDERFUL VOICE!!!.......2004-08-05

I am listening to this album for the first time today. Yes, a little late. I heard a few singles on the radio or in clubs - as dance remixes. I had never sat down with the entire project before. I am overwhelmed. Deborah Cox has a very powerful and beautiful voice. The arrangements are really nice -- they could be better, but for contemporary R&B, they are good. Her voice is what makes the album. She is one of the best r&b voices since the 90s. I just cant think of another singer since the 80s who is this good. Keep up the good work!!!

Why on earth does she not get more attnention in the USA? Beyonce and Usher???!!! What is wrong with the US music industry?

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic, Upbeat - EXCELLENT!!.......2005-07-28

Deborah Cox at her best in club cuts. This thing rocks - not one bad mix! Definitely recommend this one.

5 out of 5 stars The Diva At Her Best!!.......2005-04-24

This is by far the best dance mix compilation that has been released by an artist. This is Deborah at her best and I love every mix on this cd and would highly recommend it to anyone. Granted that they are not all the full length mixes, and that is fine, but it would be nice to have some of them but I am happy with it. One thing I can say is that I would like to have seen the following mixes on the cd: Play Your Part Gabriel & Dresden Mix, Easy As Life Tony Moran Mix, and Same Script Different Cast Jonathan Peters Mix.

4 out of 5 stars Good CD, but should have been 2 CDs.......2005-04-15

A majority of Ms. Cox's awesome remixes are here, beat mixed, but edited, naturally. I would have gladly have paid more money for the full length versions of these songs on a 2 disc set. That said, many of the hard to find mixes are here, so if you haven't been able to get your hands on promo only 12 inch singles, you can get a good part of each song here. There are also previously unreleased songs. This is the breakdown.

1. intro
2. something happened on the way to heaven (valentin club mix) (4:57)
3. play your part (mike rizzo leading role club mix) (5:16)
4. mr. lonely (HQ2 main club mix-widelife mix) (5:12)
5. absolutely not (hex hector channel club mix) (5:22)
6. i never knew (hani mix) (5:27)
7. it's over now (hex's retro future mix) (4:37)
8. nobody's supposed to be here (hex hector club mix) (5:23)
9. things just ain't the same (hex hector club mix) (4:57)
10. who do u love (david morales mix) (5:52)
11. it could've been you (david morales mix 1) (4:20)
12. starting with you (danny sullivan & kemist mix) (5:15)
13. who do u love (junior vasquez mix) (5:24)
14. it's over now (hex's club mix) (5:59)

Even better would have been a collection of full-length, non-beat mixed remixes that were never commercially available on domestic or import CD, which would have included: something happened on the way to heaven (valentin mix and any other mixes that may be available), play your part (all remixes, there are many excellent ones out there), i never knew (hani mix), who do u love (the vinyl morales mix and the junior mix), and starting with you (any remixes available).

But of course, record companies never think with a diehard music collector's logic when they release these compilations, as we all know.

5 out of 5 stars Deborah Does it Again...........2005-01-07

Does the Woman sleep, I suppose NOT....This is a Favorite CD mixed to perfection, of most all her greatest club hits, thank goodness she works with some of the BEST DJ Remixers to date. She not only has a HUGE following in the straight community, but the G** men and women, LOVE HER! The reason why is her remixes all played constantly in the G** clubs, "Absolutly Not" at one point if I ever heard that again ......... Well it has been a couple years now, and I put the Hex ext Channel Mix, and I felt as if time was standing still. This is a MIXED CD of the greatest hits, excellent for the gym a brisk walk a party or ANYTHING...even motivation to turn up the volume and clean house, either way, she will be sure to get U in shape. From the club scene to Broadway, not to many artists can accomplish that, and I did say ARTIST, and that she is!/Jason Prof DJ

2 out of 5 stars Just correcting previous reviewers.......2006-08-21

First and foremost im an enormous Deborah Cox fan. Their are few voices with her crystalline and powerful vocals. However I had to intervene when I read back to back reviews that stated Deborah cox's voice is superior to that of Mrs. Whitney Houston, or as I like to call her...the greatest singer of all time. I think people are making the mistake of comparing the 2 currently. In her day Whitney was incomparable, and still even now with a diminishing voice she still surpasses most singers out there....including Deborah Cox. There is however no doubt that Mrs. Cox is a stellar singer in the category of greats such as Whitney, Mariah, Yolanda Adams, Celine, Patti, etc. But make no mistake noone is superior vocally to the ridiculously talented Whitney Houston.

5 out of 5 stars One of R&B's best voices........2005-12-22

I actually think her voice is superior to fellow songstress Whitney Houston. I don't know what Clive Davis (i've had issues with him recently) was thinking when he dropped her from his J Records label. Hopefully that means she'll have better records and sales now. Anyways, about the album, it includes her classic hits like "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here", the remake of "Just Be Good to Me" and her breakthrough hit "Who Do You Live." Fans of her techno music do not fear! Her dance mix hits are included as well...which put Cox in a whole new genre she never really expected. You will be amazed at her flawless voice throughout this collection. My favorites are "Just Be Good To Me", "I Never Knew (Hani Remix)", "Same Script Different Cast" and "Who Do You Love." Highly reccomended to R&B/Deborah Cox.

5 out of 5 stars R&B and Club Music's best kept secret.......2005-05-06

Chances are a lot of people don't know much about Deborah Cox. She's Done Broadway, including the lead in Disney's Aida, she's done Hollywood, and she's dominated the Club and R&B charts for the last 8 years, so how is that possible? Well, for one thing, she's good, maybe too good. In a world of the ever engaged and married J.Lo (who undortunatley has two different people for each), not to mention Ms. Lo's umm- "Talent", and let's not forget the ever fascinating Mrs. Federline who wants the press to leave her alone, yet she's still willing to have her private life taped for a TV reality show, and then there's Whitney- where do you start with her?

Deborah, who once served as a back up singer to fellow Canadian Celine Dion, has a vocie that can smooth to any ballad, and go to the greatest gospel vocals, putting even Whitney to shame, and she comes equipped with just some of the best Dance Mixes, actually, almost every song she records, including "Easy as Life" from Aida can be found in Remix form, and these mixes leave Miss Britney and the new Mrs. Marc Anthony in the dust.

If you still don't know Deborah, or you LOVE her, this is a must have CD. From the Catchy dance hit "Who Do U Love" to "Absolutley Not" to the Valentin Mix of "Something Happened on the Way to Heaven" (which makes the original Phil Collins Version as a cold and lonely poser by comparison)- to a duet with the Whitney Herself. Ultimate? Quintessential, Imcomparable,Exceptional, Deborah Cox.

5 out of 5 stars Special edition--the way every Deborah Cox CD should be.......2006-11-21

There is no question that this is the version of this CD to buy. Disc 2 contains all the full length club mixes from the original CD, some as long as 10 minutes. And despite several of Deborah's biggest singles being released as maxi singles in the past---things just ain't the same, nobody's supposed to be here, it's over now--many have not. It would be great to see reissues with bonus CDs including all the remixes of such full length club gems as I Never Knew, Something Happened on the Way to Heaven, Easy as Life, Who Do You Love (the junior vasques mix), Play Your Part, Absolutely Not (here, you get the radio edit on only on the original disc) etc. It was like the record label finally got the point when they released this brilliant two disc set...but then all we got after that was the "remixed" CD which contains all segued edits. So, by all means, for collectors of Deborah's dance music, this is a slice of gold that should NOT be missed before it goes out of print!!!!

4 out of 5 stars One of her better ones.......2007-02-15

I own a couple of other albums from Deborah Cox, but this is my favorite. "My First Night With You" is one of my favorite slow jams, and all of her other ballads in this album is smooth and fresh. Her up-tempo jams aren't quite as good, but not horrible either. It's not an album for everyone, but if you're into smooth female R&B sound, this isn't a bad one for your collection. She definitely has a good voice and her slow jams will get you into a soothing mood.

4 out of 5 stars Nice to kick back and listen to .......2007-01-11

My favourite song on this album is 'Who do you love'. I also love 'Sentimental'. This is a nice CD to listen to. Deborah has a beautiful voice and this was certainly a good debut. I didnt know it has the song 'Where do we go from here', so that was a nice surprise. For those who remember the 90s, this is a good addition to your collection.

5 out of 5 stars VERY SENTIMENTAL.......2005-08-09

We got another winner here, Deborah was a perfect stranger to me, in fact when i saw her cd i thought " Another Whitney Houston Wannabe?¡uff...!" but i was wrong, i heard his track 1 "Sentimental" and i realized that girl is not just another mediocre singer. Then i heard " Who do U love" and the remix version, that's enough to buy it. After some time i start to find new favourites songs in this Cd..."Never gonna break my Heart Again" "Where do we go from Here" and my nowadays favourite is " Just Be Good To Me"...So my advice to U is, buy it.

5 out of 5 stars Hott Damn.......2005-01-15

This is a classic R&B album. Ms. Cox gets my vote for queen of R&B, vocally shes right there with Whitney. I have all of her albums and this one is still my favorite effort from Ms. Cox. My favorite cuts are It could have been you,My Radio,Call Me, Just be good to me, and Sentimental. This is probably not a cd Id recommend for kids or teenagers, It has a very formal mature R&B sound. If you can appriciate vocals than you should definately pick this album up because theres nothing out there right now that comes close. She executes her songs with class and elegence, and yes ladies and gentelmen she takes it there.Bravo Deborah

4 out of 5 stars Good debut..........2001-07-28

This album was a great debut for Deborah...This album is very pop compared to her last album(witch was more R&B, not to mention a little better too). But this album does contain a few gems including "Who Do You Love" witch is the song that turned me into a Deborah fan, also "Sentimental" and her version of "Just Be Good To Me".

A rare Canadian among the R&B elite, Deborah Cox is also notable as one of the few certified divas to write or cowrite her own songs. With her reputation thus established, Cox boldly pushes into a new direction on The Morning After, offering comparatively few ballads as well as two songs aimed straight at the dance floor: the percussive rump-shaker "Up & Down (In & Out)" and the wildly caffeinated "Mr. Lonely." That both appear in myriad remixed versions on an accompanying CD makes Cox's intent clear. Still, fans of the singer's earlier, softer sounds aren't completely shut out. "Hurt So Much" is anguish as a state of mind, while the lush, octave-defying "Play Your Part" puts the passive-aggressive relationship into focus. Sisters get an anthem in "Starting with You," which best captures Cox's overriding messages of affirmation and individuality. Of course, with a voice this boundless and beautiful, Cox could make the white pages sound tingly. That she strives for something more makes The Morning After worth hearing. --Kim Hughes

5 out of 5 stars A Diamond in the Ruff.......2005-09-20

This CD is one of the best I've heard from a R&B female recording artist. Some of the best songs on this CD is "Giving It Up," a laid-back song, "Absolutely Not(Chanel Mix)," a hard-pumping club song, and "Play Your Part." This whole album is great and should not be overlooked. If you are a R&B fan, you should definately consider hearing this album.

3 out of 5 stars 3.5 Stars-- A mixed bag........2005-09-13

Deborah Cox's strogest material has always been her ballads....and "The Morning After" only further proves that point. Nowadays she may chart mostly for club remixes, but many foreget she is also an underrated R&B songstress... who can be compared to Whitney Houston in terms of vocal talent. "Play Your Part" is Deborah Cox's answer to Madonna's "Take A Bow" and her voice soars with passion throughout the song effortlessly. "Hurt So Much" is a beautiful Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis-written ballad which really shows her soulful side. The title track also does, and displays more of a Gospel feel. While "LIke I Did" may have more of a generic Rodney Jerkins sound, I still enjoy it because it has addictive beats. The only thing that saves the filler R&B club material are the hit remixes, "Absolutely Not" and "Mr. Lonely"--both amazing. Is this CD worth the price? Depends if you want a bunch of filler club tracks. It can be listened to the entire way through, but the ballads are really what makes the CD. She puts her heart and soul in them and you can tell every time you listen. Next time round, Deborah needs to focus on her strongpoints instead of making the mistakes which she did on this CD.

5 out of 5 stars The Morning After.......2005-05-17

I remember this album when I was in the 10th grade. I played this album constantly and enjoyed it. This album demonstrates a new level of creativity, brimming with songs that speak to personal experiences, expressing her own truth about love and relationships. lyrical truth and reality are the hallmarks of the outstanding cuts on this album. Deborah has offered her most personal work to date. This is her latest milestone in her exciting journey as a premier worldwide ever-diva. This album should have been promoted more. Remember, this was 2002.

5 out of 5 stars slept on.......2005-01-15

it amazes me that beyonce, brandy, monica, and mya can out sell this woman.Shame, it really is.At least she gets mad love at the gay club with remixes to every song shes released as well as several non single tracks. The gems on this album include...every single song, I can listen to it non stop, and the beats are much more vibrant than she worked with previously..Once again vocally she takes it thier, none of the previous artist mention can touch mrs. cox, and she makes that apperant on this album.

5 out of 5 stars Givin it up for Deborah.......2005-01-05

this album is really good although it's not really popular in the US but maybe in some other countries. it's a really good cd with it's mix of r&b, hip-hop, and two bonus dance tracks of Mr. Lonely and Absolutely Not mixed by Hex Hector. the key tracks are Givin It Up, Play You Part, Up & Down(In & Out), Mr. Lonely, and Hurt So Much. i would suggest that everyone who loves r&b and dance to buy this cd. it's hot

5 out of 5 stars Dinah Would've Been So Proud.......2007-08-04

The past several years have been a bit difficult for Deborah Cox. One of the most soulful vocalists in R&B hasn't been on the radio or MTV in years. Although she has maintained her presence in other projects, including acting in the Broadway production of Elton John & Time Rice's Aida during its final days in 2004-2005. Nevertheless, it has been so long since her last record The Morning After was released, and unfortunately flopped. Although she left Arista, she recently tried a transformation from a R&B / Hip Hop diva, into a elegant songstress, and the transformation worked on this album.

Destination Moon, Debroah Cox's 2007 album is one of the hidden surprise records relased this year, that really does deliver very well. Her debut on the classic standards label Decca Records, delivers with a bang. The album showcases Deborah paying tribute to the late songbird Dinah Washington, with elegance and beauty. The album brings a classy elegance that hasn't shined this bright since Natalie Cole's Unforgetable With Love, and is well delivered through Deborah's smooth voice, and the orchestral mix from each track. The album includes some really great tracks here from the title track, Destination Moon, as well as Squeeze Me, the somber and well-crafted Look To The Rainbow, and Blue Skies, as well as a silky rendering of Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, a song which was more popular from The Platters. This special edition, which is exclusively sold from Napster and Circuit City also includes the soul-driven Out Of Sight Out Of Mind, which adds to Deborah's masterpiece.

My only problem with Destination Moon is that it is very short. Deborah Cox delivers such a sensual performance here, it leaves die hard fans and newcomers going crazy for more. I really love this album a whole lot, and I was blown away with the album. While so many more people will consider records from Kelly Clarkson and Beyonce' that are just more about hype, Destination Moon delivers in the performance and passion of the album. This is definitely one of the best records for 2007, and a real rare treat. This is Deborah's best album yet, and looking to this rainbow, I absolutely see a pot of gold.

I believe debra cox is very talanted. I especially like her "nobodys suppose to be here" she is a beautiful person and I think she should persue her career in music, the only thing is some of her songs dont move me as much. One other thing, how many edits does she need?

5 out of 5 stars Deborah and Hex conquer Clubland again!.......1999-05-22

The pairing of Deborah Cox and Hex Hector brought us 1997's "Things Just Ain't The Same". Now we have "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here". Hex Hector works his same magic on this track. Turning it into one of 1998-1999's top club tracks! The cd maxi contains the full length Hex mix, the radio mix & a dub. Also contain the original gospel inspired version, and an instrumental of the original. Worth it baby! 5/5

    5 out of 5 stars SUPERB VOICE!!!.......1999-04-15

I Love this CD. I prefer the remixes but the original is fantastic too. Miss Cox can really sing and she sang it all out. The remix is powerful and carries her voice superbly. Better than the remix of "Who Do You Love".
