Spoonie Gee, before LL we had Spoonie!!! Everyone if you don't know about him do your homework. Probably the freshest you'll never hear talked about. He made very entertaining songs and is truly a predacessor when it comes to rap music. You must find it and cherish it. The GODFATHER!!!!

Disgusting!! If I Tried, I'd Do Better!!.......2006-11-11
I had heard a track or two of Mr. Capone-e's music before & I thought he had a little something. I also own the Zapp VI album & felt were Terry (Zapp) was going, so I wanted to see how he had evolved. Now I'm a huge Zapp & Roger fan and a fan of Chicano & Gangsta Rap, so naturally this is suppose to be the best of both worlds... how wrong I was.
Mr. Capone-e has no lyrical talent. His timing is off & his subject matter is that of a 15-year-old boy who thinks he's all gangsta & hard. He definitely puts a bad label on Mexicans, Chicanos, Latinos, & Hispanics all-together. I know he's probably done more & worse dirt than me, but he shouldn't be on the mic!!!!!!
a greater union of a Chicano & Zapp can be heard on the track: "SPECIAL" by BROWN BOY.
The only time I felt myself liking songs is when Terry came on them. He has great potential, but I can't figure out why he would agree to this. Times get tough, but you just gotta HOLD ON & keep ya head up!
I hope to see more of Zapp, but I will never do another stupid act such as buying both CDs at once.
Keep it real: A waste of time & money.
New Age Hood.......2006-05-13
Thugs get killed and criminals go to jail. Tired of the glorification of abohhrent behavior in our youth. Roger Troutman was the heart of Zapp and I don't think he would approve of this typre of travesty. I don't care how "dope" the music and the hooks are if the message is straight from Hell. Nothing positive here.

Album Description
Wizard Wiz was absolutely the most outrageous personality of the old school. His production team, like Spoonie's, spanned a broad range of old school beatmasters: OC of Fearless Four as well as Pumpkin, Marley Marl, and Ced Gee of Ultramagnetic MCs. He has been sampled by the Beastie Boys and was recently profiled in The Source.
Customer Reviews:
Good old school.......2006-12-12
I bought this TAPE back in the day based on the cover alone (which is different that the CD cover). Pretty sweet old school beats. The track listing is different on my tape however...they must have found some more Wiz tracks when it came time to make the CD..
Good, overlooked album.......1999-08-19
This is definitely one of the better Tuff City compilations. It's a dope collection (apparently from the period 1984-87) of some previously released and some unreleased recordings of Funkmaster Wizard Wiz, member of The Undefeated Three. With only a couple of misfires, the production is tight throughout the album. This is not surprising considering the producers are Ced Gee (responsible for the best tracks here), Marley Marl (not up to par, but the unpolished "I Stink Cause I'm Funky" is reminiscent of some of his best early work), Pumpkin (dope drums), Aaron Fuchs (produces some of the weaker tracks, but also the very good "Fat Tim") and Master O.C. (with a nice, simple track). Funkmaster Wizard Wiz himself proves he's more than able to deliver a good verse (especially on "I Ain't Wid That"), with lyrics to make sure nobody wants to get too close. A nice human beat box'er too with actual scratch sounds!

sound quality clarification.......2006-12-01
some have complained about sound quality. i am not a trained ear but it is easy to hear that the last two tracks and only those two sound awful - demo-quality or worse. all the rest, where the good stuff is anyway, are fine.
it's OK.......2006-08-21
I specifically bought this CD for "One for the Treble", so it was worth it. There are some other good songs on the CD but the quality is bad.
Not rubbish but awful recording masters thanks to Tuff City .......2004-12-25
Yeah y'all "One For The Treble (Fresh)" and "The DMX Will Rock" series are the only joints on this greatest hits CD by the man DAVY DMX. He sings,he plays bass,he's a super dope DJ. Tuff City Records messes this CD up with awful recorded masters (just like on the ULTRAMAGNETIC MC'S bootlegs. I-ight,CED-GEE was responsible for that, who or whom is responsible for this?).
In my high school days,I was on the radio as a DJ and I wore out "One For The Treble (Fresh)". I had it on 12" single,it was one of the most requested hip-hop songs on my show. Don't forget DAVY DMX produced and played some instruments for KURTIS BLOW before going solo (see "8 Million Stories",etc). I'm not knocking DAVY DMX at all,but this should have been a 5 song EP. I'm not knocking Tuff City either,it's just that they were a great indie record label (in the 80's) gone to...stink! Anyways, old school rule dawg! Don't you new aged rappers and DJ's forget it!!!!
Original Hip Hop.......2000-03-29
I have been looking for this for sometime now. I think all the new hip hoppers should listen to this CD!!!! Funky!!!!
the original Davey DMX so get wit' it!.......2000-01-10
The lack of knowledge about such a talented artist "I can't Explain".The king of the drum machine [before Mantronix].Def Jam O.G.F-f-f-fresh!Can I ride with you Davey,Davey please? Can I ride with you Davey?Anybody who calls themselves down with the culture of Hip-Hop should listen to "Davey's Ride"'which was released in 1987 on Def Jam/Columbia.This album,I believe, shows you exactly how versatile an artist he truly is.

Capone-e and zapp came up.......2005-12-16
This cd is truly old school and gots the beats you can mob to. This is by far one of Capon-e's best albums zapp and capon-e are a great team and I cant wait for vol. 2.
Zapp and Capone-e on the dance floor..........2005-11-11
I was a bit skeptical about how a whole album Mr.Capone-e and Zapp would sound. It seemed like too stark of a contrast, Chicano gangster and the classic funk of Zapp Troutman. However, the result is a great album. This is Capone-e's album, but it wouldn't have sounded nearly as good without Zapp's contribution. Almost all of the beats are new. The song 'Hatevine' uses the beat from Zapp & Roger's version of Grapevine, also the song 'I'm a player' uses the beat from 'slow & easy'. I like the the beats on 'Beware of my crew' and 'Lowrider' the most. Capone-e's style is flawless as always. He flips spanish & english perfectly and crosses genres several times during the album. Zapp's talkbox is the chorus in many songs and Capone-e always picks up where zapp leaves off. Both artists sound well together in each song, neither one really stands out in many songs.
I rate this album 5 out 5.

"Another Tuff City classic compilation".......2005-08-29
This is one of those compilations filled with rare, OOP, hard to find joints. You got cuts from the Ultramagnetic MC's "BASEMENT TAPES: 1984-1988", also featured are cuts from the Cold Crush Bros.'s "LIVE in '82". A few joints from the early 80's and classics from the Tuff City All-Stars. Some classic sh*t for your eardrums and not the same ol' songs of other compilations.
Love the old rap? Then this CD is a must!!!!!.......2000-10-19
If you guys love the old rap, like Kriss Kross, One Way, Frankie Smith and all them other guys, you need this CD! It has a mix of everything, with a bit of Jamaican flair. Great for cruising around the car with, or breakdancing at the club. Whatever way you look at i,t, you must get it!

"Cold-Crush, ya'll! givin' you more"!!.......2005-08-07
The C.C.B.'s have been rockin' n' shockin' the house since the '70's. This compilation here is technically there first album, being that back then they had a string of hit singles (the norm at the time) and of course, there musical contribution to the classic "WILD-STYLE" soundtrack. I'll break down the trks.for ya': trk.1- "fresh, wild, fly & bold (megamix) a Cold-Crush classic!!! 10/10. trk.2- "punk rock rap" not one of their best in my opinion, but considered a classic. 6/10. trk.3-"heartbreakers" another Cold-Crush classic!! 10/10. trk.4-"weekend" their classic 1st single. 8/10. trk.5-"number one with the fun" this is an ill song! it's so hard-core! straight up, B-Boy classic! 10/10. trk.6-"we reserve the right to rock" this is a previously unreleased demo, but it's still ill! 9/10. trk.7-"yvette" although produced by the late Pumpkin, the "live" version of this song is so much better. 7/10. trk.8-"mister bill" this song ain't all that, even with production by Pumpkin. but Caz delivers lyrically. 7/10.
