1 out of 5 stars Very Unsatisfied.......2007-05-31

I am very unsatisfied with this order. I have ordered many times from Amazon and have received CDs in great shape that still had the proper jackets on them. I have even recommended you to family and friends. After this order, I do not feel inclined to recommend this site anymore.

5 out of 5 stars His best cd ever and one of the best R&B albums (in new, not old r&b) ever.......2007-05-19

If anyone can make a cd like this now, with the state of r&b today, it would be a good thing. I am not for songs about love, relationships and sex, just for the sake of it, to make money as they do now.If you are going to write about it, use your brain, be original, with new topics and well written songs. This album has this, in tearms of new topics you have, All The Things Your Man Won't Do, Don't Wanna Be A Player and Good Girls. In tearms of well written you have, Love Don't Make Know Sense and The love Scene(in part a new topic or just smart thinking).

4 out of 5 stars Actually, It's Just the Tip of the Iceberg of Who Joe Is.......2007-04-26

This second CD of his really helped him boost his career and helped to uplift the spirit of the 1990s. Songs like "All the Things Your Man Won't Do", "No One Else Comes Close", and "The Love Scene" help to bring out his depth in R&B as a singer and performer. Personally, the song "Good Girls" describes how I felt for most of my life, including the period that the album came out, so as a whole, I give it 4 stars, and it's definitely worth the time and money spent.

5 out of 5 stars Grab this album when you're in the mood to pull an all- nighter!.......2007-03-05

This joint is the soundtrack for 12 rounds of love making. Nuff Said!!!

5 out of 5 stars Contemporary Soul.......2007-03-03

I remember when this CD first came out in '97 and playing it for that special young lady of mine but not fully appreciating it. It came out around the same time my boy Brian McKnight's Anytime dropped. This CD alone established Joe as one of the best contemporary R&B artist of the late '90s going into the new millenium. This is still one of my favorites to set the mood.

5 out of 5 stars ORIGINAL.......2007-07-07

This is entirely authentic music from entirely authentic musicians. I have watched the evolution of this band since they were in their mid-teens. I watched as they fell in love with this genre and incorporated it into their own style of music.
I have listened carefully and witnessed their evolution and I think that they finally got it perfect.

Their music is authentic. They are the genuine artical. They are some of the hardest working musicians you'll find anywhere. They love what they do. This album is brilliantly produced. The sound is incredible. While I am a much bigger SKA fan than a reggae fan, JBB has inspired me to listen to more reggae -

I have no problem with the way that Kevin Kinsella tunes his voice... he's been tuning it this way since he started singing. It works. If his "authentic" Jamaican friends and fans don't have an issue with it, then neither should his bourgeois fans from the North East.

1 out of 5 stars Just Awful.......2006-04-26

This has got to be the worst "reggae" I have ever heard recorded. From the wanna-be-Bob-Marley cliche lyrics; to the fake Jamaican accents; to the painfully dull melodies; to the droning, uninspired bass lines, this is just awful stuff. There's just too much excellent to really even just passable reggae, from Jamaica and beyond, for anyone to ever have to endure this affliction. Sorry if this review isn't quite "irie", but "who da cap fit", as is said.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Original........2006-02-08

I bought Pressure Points some months ago when my buddy got back from Camp Bisco where JBB had a set. He knew I'd really like them because of my love for reggae. Needless to say, I was hooked immediately and extremely interested in who John Brown's Body was and where their music has been, slipping by me somehow. After seeing them live and buying All Time at the show, my respect for them grew even more because at that point I owned only their first and latest albums, both being great and yet extremely different. Within a few weeks I needed another album and for whatever reason I chose Spirits All Around Us. THIS CD BLOWS ME AWAY.

Just as an overall scope of it, there is so much diversity and originality. It's roots reggae, it's hip-hop, it's jazz, it's pop-rock, it's ska, and it's all really really good music. Deep bass lines accented by weaving horn fills and vocal melodies that keep you on your toes wanting more and questioning, "How'd they put this all together?" No doubt this is one of my favorite studio albums I've ever owned and I constantly play it for friends who are floored and happy to hear something fresh and feel-good.

Highlights for me are:
1.Feel
2.33rpm
4.Traveling Man
5.ORIGINAL MAN
7.2 Bulls
8.GARDEN TREE
12.AMBROSIA

So happy I found about JBB, buy this album.

5 out of 5 stars Information!!!.......2006-01-22

This album is creative, diverse and a reminder that Jamaican music will influence American music FOREVER!!!! Now add the fact that alot of us born here have Jamaican friends, more and more we realize that it is a natural progression. You know, like how we have all those cities on the West Coast with Spanish names? People don't even realize that Spanish is a part of American culture too half the time.......I love this album, GO BUY IT!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Good contemporary reggae.......2005-12-12

As a long time reggae fan I dig, and dig and dig for hidden gems from throughout the history of reggae. I rarely find good contemporary roots reggae. But Spirits All Around Us by John Brown's Body is one of the few. Some tracks on this album are excellent, some are mediocore, but most are solid which explains my 4 star rating. I'll go track by track with my ratings.

Feel: (3 stars) feel good reggae. Nothing special but easy to listen to.

33 RPM: (5 stars) probably the best track on the album. It has a great hook, and message.

Eyes of the Maker: (4 stars) easy listening, great message. It's a little bright for my tastes, but it's definitely solid reggae.

Travelling Man: (5 stars) this track has a great feeling of distance and space. You really feel the theme of travelling. Great track.

Original Man: (4 stars) good hook and intensity. Solid track.

Good Vibes: (4 stars) good vibe, easy listening.

2 Bulls: (4 stars) I really like the intensity of the is track. Good use of metaphor in the lyrics. It has a very chant like quality.

Garden Tree: (4 stars) very fun track. Your girlfriend will love it.

Win Them: (3 stars) a little sappy for me, but some may really like the message.

Instrument: (3 stars) not bad, but there is so much good instrumental reggae out there, and this track doesn't really move to the level it could.

Peace in the Valley: (5 stars) the more I listen to this track the more I like it. I doesn't have the same hook that 33 RPM has, but it has great lyrics and atmosphere. It's my favorite track.

Ambrosia: (3 stars) it seems like it's trying to be deep but ends up a little cheesy, and kind of has the feeling of Rice Krispies. One of the mediocore tracks.

Forward Always: (4 stars) simple and sweet with a very good message.

Time to Move On: (3 stars) decent track. Easy to listen to, but a little repetative.

Product Description

In the contemporary jazz world - where guitars and saxes currently reign supreme - flutist Bradley Leighton brings a fresh, new voice to this popular genre of music. Upbeat, funky urban grooves and teh soulful, mellow sound of his alto flute combine to make this collection of tunes a refreshing change of pace in a sometimes mundane and perfunctory genre.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The Funk Revisited.......2006-12-01

With the release of the new Album "East Coast Project" with Jason Miles coming in 2007, I decided to revisit Bradley Leighton's early 2006 release "Back to the Funk". To hear a flutist take lead on this project brings back fond memories of Dave Valentin, Yusef Lateef, Bobbi Humphrey, Herbie Mann, Hubert Laws, Alexander Zonjic, Frank Wess and others back in the day. Bradley engineers a refreshing blend of old school and new school contemporary (funk) jazz.

I agree with the Pacific Coast Jazz press release which stated: "Back To The Funk's robust horn arrangements ricochet off of slamming funk beats while his alto flute angelically rises above the gritty grooves on tracks like `Runaway,' `Clear Blue Skies' and the title cut. Leighton chills on sensual mid-tempo trysts such as `Midnight Affairs' and `Soul Moon.' Strolling back in time, Leighton dusted off three gems to revisit: Stevie Wonder's "Love Light In Flight," Ray, Goodman & Brown's `Special Lady' and Bread's soulful `Make It With You,' which were deep fried in a vat of funk. Real guitar, bass, drums, and plenty of sax, trumpet and trombone help give the record an authentic, warm feel. "

With that said, whether you are a jazz enthusiast, funk master extraordinaire or R&B listener, you will enjoy this visit "Back To The Funk", I sure did. ~the JazzeOne

5 out of 5 stars Soulful and Beautiful.......2006-07-03

I really love this CD. Leighton's alto flute gives such a rich lush sound to these tunes, particularly the pop renditions I Want to Make it With You, Love Light in Flight, and Special Lady. His playing blends so beautifully with the horns and the rhythm section. If you grew up with Tower of Power and Earth Wind and Fire, you will love this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Smooth and Funky.......2006-02-12

I've never heard him do anything funky but he did this time. This is a "groovy" cd. From start to finish I thought everything was fantastic. I even liked some of the programmed drums. However, there was actually a drummer on this one. The accompanying artists were great. The sound of the funky trombone and soulful trumpet along with Bradley's flute makes some cool sounds. This cd is very different from his other works. I really enjoyed this one. I hope he does something similar in the future. Check this one out and you will be grooving with some smooth funky jazz. The Stevie Wonder cut, Love light in flight is a smash.

I love this soundtrack because that was the year or time period for me. I grew up watching "All That" and I miss the skits. My favorite skit is the "Lemonade Skit" featuring "TLC". TLC is my favorite girl even in 2006, they had so much fun during those years.

yes this soundtrack is good and it is brings back memories of the show because of the hilarious skits. Definite 5 star review.

She inpired women to remove themselves from their worthless boyfriends with the 1988 hit "Thanks For My Child", but Cheryl Pepsii Riley is at her funky, relaxed best on this album which features several superb songs including "Guess I'm In Love", "Everything I Need (I Found It In You)", "So Good", and "Forgive And Forget."

5 out of 5 stars Such an beautiful song.......2005-06-05

As to say all hail the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul like we do Queen Latifah who is the Queen of Music, TV and Ent., and among Aretha Franklin which ya'll know as the Queen of Soul. Ok Mary J. was such a blessing to me since I heard this instantly back in '01 while watching her do an interview on VH1 Behind The Music (which is one of my fav. shows to incl. along w/ DRIVEN), which see begins talking 'bout her own life, her own battle and depression w/ drugs and alcohol, etc. This used to help her out thru her dreams and where she's heading thru right now. And yes this song was produced and performed by my girl Ms. Lauryn Hill and it's such a sweet and mostly inspirational. Nice vibe and mellow to it. This song kinda reminds me of listening to Stevie Wonder's "I Can't Help It" which was done by Michael Jackson on the OFF THE WALL album. Maybe it coulda have sum strings or sum horns to go w/ it or something. No offence. Anyway she's is my inspiration and I'll luv her to the top until she stops singing and retires. Y'know she ain't go nowhere, she's gon keep rising to the top 'cuz God is w/ her by her side like one of my housegirls Faith Evans is. This is off the CD she'd released in 1999 self-titled MARY.

"All That I Can Say" is one of those songs that you love immediately as soon as you hear the first notes! I know that's what happened to me. "All That I Can Say" has an incredible melody which is complimented by Mary J. Blige's impeccable vocals. Written by Lauryn Hill, this song was a perfect first single for Mary J. Blige's album, "Mary".

I would highly suggest buying this CD if you want to listen to and beautifully written and performed piece of music!!! You won't be disappointed!!!

5 out of 5 stars Queen of R&B/Soul.......2001-03-29

All That I Can Say is a breath of fresh air in R&B, where lately talent doesn't seem to matter as long as the beat is hot, but Mary proves to everyone that she is the undisputed Queen of R&B/Soul with this song. A collaboration with Lauryn Hill (it was written by her and she sings background vocals), this song is simply beautiful, about the many splendor things you feel when you love someone. Mary HAS talent, unlike many of the current R&B trendsetters, Mary can sing and this song is no exception. She shines on this 70's groove song, it will make you smile. Mary sings about real life, about real things she's experienced, and especially on this song I can feel what shes saying, I feel through her music I can truly understand what shes putting in her music. This single includes the radio edit and album version of All That I Can Say, as well as the radio edit for her hit Beautiful from How Stella Got Her Groove Back. A must have.

5 out of 5 stars Together With Lauyrnn Hill A Great Song.......2000-09-06

Lauyrnn Hill Produced&Composed this Jam for Mary J.Bliege that SOunds alot like Michael Jackson's I Can't Help it or a Stevie Wonder Outtake.either way it's Steive's Pen.He Wrote I Can't Help it.but Mary Sounds Great on this Cut.it's by far the Best&Only cut from the Album Worth Having.this is as Close as you can get to the old Style of Mary.A Great Track.

      5 out of 5 stars I think she's dynamite!.......1999-09-11

Mary J. Blige is most definitely the queen of hip hop. I look forward to up-coming releases.
