About the Artist
Herstory. . . Rosa Lynn Russ . . . Born and raised in Staten Island, NY, Rosa was clear about her destiny from the age of six. Following in the path of her mother, she graced the church with her gift of song and discovered a love for music. At fourteen she was invited to solo with her older brother's R&B band, after which she received standing ovations. Rosa remembered, "I was excited to see that I could move an adult audience at such a young age."

Various high school musical opportunities--Borough wide, All-City and Gospel choirs, "Talent Unlimited" as well as a European tour-- left Rosa ready to hit the NYC Session Circuit and begin singing background for various artists.

Mom . . .
Rosa grew up surrounded and soothed by the voices of Ella, Sarah, Nancy… and Mom. Shirley Russ, an extraordinary church soloist for most of Rosa's childhood, continues to fascinate audiences from church congregants to opera buffs. Rosa recalled her mother singing spirituals and jazz standards. "She was always singing," said Rosa, "… at church, in concerts, or even at picnics… she would just join the band and break out a ‘My Funny Valentine' or something…" Rosa insights "

Collab's . . .
One of Rosa's most prideful collaborations was being part of the vocal quartet "Sepia". There she worked amongst the ingenuity of talents such as vocalists Lenora Zenzalai Helm, Arif St. Michael, and Marlon Saunders, founder/ brainchild. "Sepia? Oh yeah, Sepia was awesome!" smiles Rosa. "It gave me the chance to really stretch my ear for jazz harmonies and improvisation." For Rosa, Sepia was a huge growth- producing project, fine-tuning her vocal, written and collaborative skills. "The Absence of Pain" recording was an outstanding blending of vocal harmonies and thought provoking lyrics accented by Rosa's impassioned and profound leads.

Almost simultaneously Rosa became a featured artist with the Atlantic recording group "The Jazzhole." On several recordings, she has left her sweet, lyrical mark amidst the band's penchant for acid jazz. In addition to collaborating, writing and recording for "Sepia" and "Jazzhole" projects, Rosa exercised her vocal prowess by singing background for Angela Bofill, Me'Shell Ndegeocello and others, touring major cities all over the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.

Her Music . . .
Known for her alluring vocals, Rosa often brings to mind renowned balladeers such as Phyllis Hyman or Patti Austin. Similar to these extraordinary women, Rosa has a way with music. It is clearly her first language and first love. Her approach is sincere, passionate, obscure and seductive… "Sultry", she's often tagged. What she says about her music is much more humble. "It's the most precious gift I can imagine having… a high that's inexplicable! I'm just thankful for my ability to, not only create music, but to be able to deliver it to live audiences where I actually get to witness the effect it has on others."

Fed by the expertise and finesse of producer Shawn V. Lucas, Rosa Russ completes her first solo CD called "Sincerely yours," Here Rosa shows her dexterity, managing all aspects of the project from writing to production and marketing. At the same time she delivers a completely moving and warm package of life set to music. "This project is especially dear to me because it represents so much of who I am," Rosa intimated. "I learned many lessons, one being to trust and believe in myself…I mean …it's not about being perfect, but using the resources that we have to make things happen…yeah, I'm learning to respect my talents, and to give myself the credit I so often give to others."

On this project, that sultry style is sealed with a genial and heartfelt intro/outro. Her vocals, so skillfully arranged and layered, tell stories once remembered, almost forgotten (like ole' school R&B and jazz). Musically and lyrically, "Sincerely yours," invites, emotes, celebrates and intrigues.

This collection of Eydie's early work is a testament to her talent. Even at such an early age, Eydie showed the potential of being one the most talented entertainers of our time. From hearing this young voice, it is clear why such legends as Steve Allen, Frank Sinatra, Irving Berlin and Johnny Carson respected Eydie as being a "singer's singer." Of course, Eydie has only gotten better with age just like fine wine. It just doesn't get better than a Gorme version of an American classic.

This double set from Jasmine begins with one disc devoted to her period with Coral Records from 1952 and ABC-Paramount 1956 - 1960.

From the very first track 'Tell Me More' you can hear the that the lady has always been one hell of a singer. Listening to this now it comes as
no surprise she won a Grammy in 1967 for her interpretation of 'If He Walked Into My Life'.

These were the pop songs of her early recording career and as usual you find that she always gave of her best no matter how trite the song,

Eydie has great fun with 'Climb Up The Wall' 'Uska Dara' and 'I've Gotta
Crow' but it is in the ballads she excels.

Side 2 has 9 of her early ABC Paramount singles to open with plus her first ABC-Paramount LP 'Eydie Gorme'

Fantastic buy and only three Coral sides could not be found to make the set complete

When someone mentions Robert Goulet, it triggers a memory.

Back in 1964, barely in my teens, I walked into my grandmother's
house one Saturday to find my two middle-aged aunts gushing over
a handsome male singer who was scheduled to appear on the Ed
Sullivan show.

I could not imagine who could elicit such a reaction.

One of my aunt's dashed from the room and returned, holding
a copy of the LP "My Love Forgive Me." The singer was Robert
Goulet.

Well, years later, late in my teens, and listening to the music
of my parent's generation instead of my own, I discovered what
all the fuss was about.

Robert Goulet has one of the finest voices in the pop music of
that era. Indeed, that handsome baritone sings those warm and
tender ballads so convincingly, it's no wonder the ladies swoon.
On the swing numbers, I can't help but snap my fingers and sing
along. His showmanship radiates in every performance, whether
in cabaret, in musical theater, or on records.

This CD reissue, in addition to the forementioned LP, also
includes the LP "Sincerely Yours," a beautiful recording also
released in the early 60s on Columbia Records. His albums back
then were big sellers for the label. It's wonderful that two
more are now available to his fans in the CD format.

Footnote: Highly recommended, too, is the Sony import that
includes his two LPs of Broadway songs.

5 out of 5 stars Goulet Hits The Mark.......2001-03-12

Having had both "Sincerely Yours" and "My Love Forgive Me" on vinyl I was familar with the content of this CD.

Robert Goulet had released 2 alblums prior to "Sincerely Yours" with mixed results. He had been trying to make that transition from "Broadway Baritone" to the pop charts , and he finally hit the mark with "Sincerely Yours". With a mixture of both Broadway and Standards charts and a letting loose of that big voice he finally found the combination that showed his talents. The arranger and conductor, Sid Ramin, should be given credit for a job well done.

The "My Love Forgive Me" tracks are a different kind of offering. This alblum was Robert Goulet's most popular, given the fact that beside "If Ever I Would Leave You", the title track of this alblum is the song he was most associated with during his recording career. There are 4 different conductors on the 12 tracks and the alblum, although it doesn't suffer from this,it feels a little less consistent. I will say that on the tracks Mr. Goulet is at the top of his form, and most of the set has a very serious feel to it.

The 2 bonus tracks are the icing on the cake. Marty Manning's arrangement of "If Ever I Would Leave You" and Mr. Goulet's delivery of his signature song are worth the price of admission. "Summer Sounds" is a representative song of the mid-60's, when summer songs were the rage.

Now if we can only get Sony to produce a box set of Robert Goulet's entire Columbia output!

Robert Goulet is gifted with an extraordinary voice: vibrant, deep and emotive. This CD is the reedition of 2 early LPs with an excellent choice of songs. Listen to an authentic voice, with no trick and let this old-school crooner put a spell on you! His style is out of fashion and he has the quality of a classical singer.

Aside from Goulet's self-parody image, he was indeed an amazing singer! These two early albums display this in beautiful form. Goulet is in full, dramatic voice here. A pure not-so-guilty pleasure!

      Somehow, Chris Walker didn't get the push he deserved after two albums in 1991 and 1993. I think that he showed promise even if he had a more mature kind of R&B that avoided trends. But what makes this album better is Love Tonight. That sing along catchy chorus of LooooooooooooohLove Tonight just grabs me everytime that song comes on. It is his best song to me. Take Time, the hit from his debut, doesn't even come close. Some wiseguy host on VH-1 is going to say some clever, snarky, remark about Walker on a One Hit Wonders special, but Walker really held his own for two albums that this label should never be placed on him. He was a good singer during this time of the early '90s and this second album proved that.

      This man does more than just sing. He can SANG! hahaha. I was taken by the 1st track I Will Always Love You. Luckily it isn't the shlock I thought it might be. He has a very quirky, soulful voice, and its nice to hear with this kind of music. Get it if you can.

          Vera Lynn was a wartime heart throb for GI's in WWII, especially in England. Her hits There'll Be bluebirds Over The White Cliff Of Dover, We'll Meet Again, and the haunting A Nightingale Sang In Barkely Square were what she was famous for singing. I discovered this great singer from watching a low budget film called "Paranoid" starring Jessica Alba, and during the hauntingly creepy film, they played several Vera Lynn songs such as A Nightingale... I waited to the end credits to find out this was, who sounded like Edith Piaf, if she could sing in english, it was the sweet voiced Lynn. If you were to compare Lynn to an American diva, you would have to say Dinah Shore, yet Lynn has more vocal power and sings with 10 times the amount of passion as the Southern Shore did.

          This cd is the perfect intro to lynn's music, in fact this is all you really need, and it's a great price original 40's and 30's stuff, and good sound quality though not much for recording dates and liner notes, bu the music is timeless, and dated at the same time. When you hear this you know its WWII sentimantal music at it's best. Though if your lookin' for a swingin' dame try Helen forrest, but for a purely emotionally powerful ballad singer this is the place!
