Okay but could have been much better. . . .......2007-02-08
Coming near the end of Chaka Khan's association with Rufus, "Masterjam" first sounded to me like something they were contractually-obligated to finish (Khan herself later confirmed this in her autobiography "Chaka! Through the Fire"). The best numbers are a couple of sensational opening stompers ("Do You Love What You Feel," "Any Love")which allow Khan to ride the groove and belt the way only she can. The workable ballad "Live in Me" actually sounds like an outtake from Michael Jackson's "Off the Wall." But I also liked the terrifically ponderous blues of "What Am I Missing?" (which Khan co-wrote with her brother). The rest of the disc is otherwise laden with second-rate disco material, despite the high production values. So it's understandable why Khan's attention sometimes wanders. Particularly bad is her uninspired take on "Body Heat," a song written and previously recorded by Quincy Jones, who produced "Masterjam." In short, "Masterjam" kicks up a little dust here and there but this album is nowhere near the level of the group's best work.
Quincy raises this up a notch.......2006-11-11
In a collection of what would have otherwise been heavy-handed, outdated disco tracks, we instead have catchy, irresistable melodies from start to finish. "Do You Love What You Feel" remains the slick, sexy dance classic it has always been, while Rod Temperton contributes his usual memorable compositions. Also featured is an updated, disco-inspired cover of Q's 1974 classic "Body Heat" composition.
If you love real bands as I do..........2006-07-31
The intro of heavenbound can play on my ipod all day.
This was truly an end of an era, Rufus was one of the best!
This cd is a must have for all Chaka fans, even if only to hear her mellow vocals on What am I Missing.
Masterjam..........2005-11-19
"Do you love what you feel?" That truly is the question that this album asks! Yes, I did love what I felt from that song. This was a good effort by Rufus. "Masterjam" was also good. Get a copy at a good price and enjoy it! Four stars!
Loves Real Music.......2005-10-31
Of all the music I have heard over the years, I was so happy to see that I can receive this album as a cd which I bought years ago. The timing of this music is priceless!! There is nothing here that does not move me! It brings tears to my eyes that great artists are overlooked these days and success is based on their ability to sell music and have #1 hits instead of the! What about the artistry of real musicians playing their own creative work of art! Where has the true art form gone? My most favorites are Heaven Bound, Live in Me, Body Heat, and Dancing for your Love! The riffs are fantastic and I welcome the sound of "real music" and instrumentation compared to all of the techno we have today! If there were certain things we could bottle, Chaka Khan and Tony Maiden voices would be placed in a time capsule to be savored years to come to remind us of the artistry of a Quincy Jones production as well as a Rufusized sound!

I have and love this album, I want to hear it in a CD version so while I was shopping here I went to Barnes and Noble and they sell it there for only $9.95. The music of that time was very original, sensual and sexy...... "Live in Me" melts me.
A Great Record Now Remastered.......2006-10-02
I remember when this Lp came out and the smash 'Do You Love What You Feel' was receiving heavy airplay!, "Masterjam" is another great Rufus\Chaka record in their catalog, great production from Quincy Jones made this a more polished record from them but hey that's the way Quincy does... now this gem has been remastered, the sound is more fuller and you hear certain things you haven't before...get this while you still can.
