Classic Dream.......2007-06-20
This is an excellent "live" (some parts were overdubbed in the studio) album by Tangerine Dream. Chris' sequencers are just simply awesome. Edgar's guitar work is good, but a bit repetitive.
Overall, this album is a perfect sample of the classic Froese, Franke, Baumann lineup. Both tracks take you on an atmospheric and ambient journey into the universe of sound and the opening piano part of track 2 is a memorable tune that was often a staple of piano solos performed in the '80s during TD concert tours.
One of their best recordings from the '70s.
Autumnal and gloomy electronica - great stuff!.......2007-04-21
This live album was released hot on the heels of their 1975 masterpiece Rubycon and has a similarly gothic and gloomy atmosphere. In contrast with other live albums however, this sounds just like it was recorded in the studio - the sound quality is excellent and the audience can not be heard at all (apart from the beginning and end of the piece). Ricochet was cobbled together from live performances recorded during the autumn of 1975 in both France and Britain. If the recording was taken from a number of separate performances, there is no evidence of that in terms of sound quality - furthermore, I feel that the the performances were seamlessly and expertly "stitched together".
The lineup on Ricochet is the classic incarnation of the band: Edgar Froese (electric guitar; bass guitar; mellophonium; mellotron; VCS3 Synthi); Chris Franke (double moog synthesizer; Synthi A; organ; piano; VCS3; drums); and Peter Baumann (Organ; Synthi A; Flute; electric piano; VCS3). The guys put in a great performance and Edgar throws in some slightly distorted electric guitar work to spice things up a bit.
The 38'14" Ricochet composition is split into two parts including Ricochet (Pt. 1 - 17'03") and Ricochet (Pt. 2 - 21'11"). The music is classic Tangerine Dream, with loads of brooding analog synthesizers, pulsating sequencers, and dreamy atmospheres. There are small drum and electric guitar parts here and there, but for the most part this is a synth-dominated album with very quiet textures. As can be imagined, there are elements of albums like Rubycon and Stratosphere (1976) on Ricochet. A very nice combination in fact.
All in all, this is a great album from the classic mid-1970's period of the bands' output and is highly recommended along with Phaedra (1974); Rubycon; and Stratosphere.
This is a great recording.......2006-08-08
This 1975 recording captures Tangerine Dream at what I think is the pinnacle year of their peak period (1974-1976), and features the classic lineup: Edgar Froese, Chris Franke, Peter Baumann. They were on top of their game at this point. Part 1 was recorded in France during the autumn of 1975 (most likely in September) and has more of a rhythm/groove to it than Part 2, thanks in large part to Froese's guitar playing. Part 2 was recorded on 75-Oct-23 at Fairfield Hall in Croydon, England. It starts off with some gentle piano playing before delving into Tangerine's more traditional synth playing, then ends gently again. The sound quality is very good and the audience is not heard other than at the beginning/end. This was not some studio wizardry, as almost all Tangerine concert recordings I've heard during this period have incredibly well behaved audiences that usually only make noise before and after a musical segment. Apparently, the band made some changes to the raw live tape in the studio. Comparing the untouched recording to Ricochet Pt 2 confirms this. Nevertheless, Ricochet is a great cd and my favorite of their original LP live releases. Both Ricochet and Boxed Set Vol 1 (which is a more complete and untouched recording from the 75-Oct-23 show) are highly recommended if you are a fan of this fruitful period of Tangerine Dream.
Rocking Ricochet.......2006-03-14
Ricochet may be a short and edited version of TD's many live concerts but still it was so excellently crafted that gives you an impression "how did they do it". I had this album on vinyl and the sound was already crispier when the remastered version came out even better. Td is trully ahead of their time and this early live concert is a living testament to that. Richocet stands out as one of TDs best live release. Though with the TD tree this live album may be obsolete but at its release it was a phenomenal achievement.
One of the best.......2005-12-14
This era of Tangerine Dream (TD) was just great. The Virgin Years were truly a great period for TD. For me it deals with space and landscape. It's so close to repetitive music that would come much later. It's also the one group that used rythm to structure these flying melodies. You could fly with them and end up with more in the end. You can't say that for too many of these Electronic groups. After that period they would go on with this ambient music that wasn't up to the same standards. It seems they are back (with other musicians of course) with the same kind of concept. Great! They were an important link on the electronic scene. A great album! A great period!

I LOVE HIM.......2004-08-13
The emotion that Jay Jay infuses into his voice when he sings is absolutely marvelous! This is what i would call "rainy-day" music. It's very melancholy, very chill.
"Suffering" is my absolute favorite song. It is also featured on the "Queer As Folk" Season One Soundtrack. To anynne who is on the fence about this artist, get his albums, and you won't regret it!
He's done it again!.......2000-07-21
While not quite as flawless as his last release 'Tatoo', this is another exceptionally strong collection of haunting, trip-hop flavored songs from the Swedish crooner. The best songs on the release are his best yet, and show growth in both songwriting and arranging skills.
Jay Jay's voice is his signature, and it's on full display here. Melodic, clear, deep (in texture, not tone), and hypnotic. The spare trip-hop arrangements are the perfect complement, and togetehr you get a unique and beautiful cocktail of thoroughly modern music.
In my view, an artist deserving of much more attention. Do yourself a favor and buy 'Poison' (throw in 'Tattoo' if you're felling adventurous), and then do your friends a favor by passing the word!
Jay-Jay is the acid jazziest!.......2000-07-04
I saw Jay-Jay Johanson in concert as part of the Montreal Jazz Festival and I immediately went out and bought two of his CDs. His voice is so beautiful and clear that it was mesmerizing. The audience at the Jazz Fest was enraptured. He was brought back out for two encores and the crowd still wanted more.
The style reminds me of Portishead. If you like that sort of moody, melancholy, soothing acid jazz, this album is a must. I can't decide which track is my favorite because they are all brilliant.
If you can get your hands on them, his other two CDs (Tattoo and Whiskey) are also fantastic.
you will be surprised.......2000-06-23
the first time I listened to this, I didn't know what to think, but his voice is so beautiful and the effect is very haunting. I guess this is euro pop music, (Jay Jay is from Sweden), but I really like this. "Neon Lights" is my favorite.

DON'T PASS THIS ONE BY..........2003-05-14
Another great release from 1984. Along with other releases from their peers like Echo and the Bunnymen and the Banshees, this one sounds like it was dipped into the sound of swirling angels.
To think, U2's Unforgettable Fire got all the rage. Wot were they mad!!!
Underrated wispy-wavy music!.......2003-04-13
This CD seems to have gone unnoticed by the mainstream who seem only to remember "Melt with you"...this album is really strong, definitely at least as good as After the Snow...Rainbows End, Machines, Spinning Me Round, Blue Waves are all extremely excellent, and the remaining tracks are almost as good as they (I enjoy turning the volume up during the sweet little classical intro to Chapter 12 too)....I love to discover unheralded gems, and this CD certainly fits the bill. If you enjoy ME's more popular music, please give this album a try. You'll be pleasantly surprised!
a great album.......2002-11-30
What a nice piece of pop, this is what New Wave was all about: once the rage of punk finished, the hangover left sharper ears and creative skills, so a mixture of pop and experimental never seen or heard before was produced by this and other seminal bands, oh lord if only contemporary pop might be like this...
Great songs with lovely harmonies all over, strings and oboe arrangements, highly recomendable indeed.
Pop with punch.......2001-09-11
Very nice album. I bought it upon release in 1992 and still find myself still listening to it after 10+ years. If you enjoy melodic, catchy synth-pop a la Human League and later Stranglers releases, by all means purchase this CD.
The title track (with it's circular chorus) and 'Rainbow End' are my favorites.
Enjoy!
The purest blue.......2000-08-04
"Ricochet days", the band's third studio album, does greatly benefit from a slightly streamlined sound, better production, and dancier rhythms. Adding a string quartet and other classical instruments, tracks like "Heart" or the title cut even sound experimental and ambitious. While "Ricochet days" lacks an absolutely catchy hit single like "I melt with you" and the punk edge of the previous two albums, it's a bit more consistent and will ultimately prove the most satisfying ME effort. The rocking "Rainbow's end" is ME's most immediate number in years, and "Machines", "Spinning me round", and "Hands across the sea" display that the band hasn't forgotten how to write catchy refrains. But the stand-out track here is "Chapter 12", which has a very memorable, crystalline synth melody. There's even a video clip of this song available, it shows the band playing on the roof of a house. The extra tracks are taken from 1984's EP release "Chapter 12", including a great dance mix and two other tracks. The previously unreleased "Breaking away" is a simple but enchanting number. Well, ME never were a groundbreaking band like several other 4AD artists (Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, Pixies), but they created some of the best and most sophisticated wave-rock of the early-'80s.

Great debut from rocking country group.......2004-05-26
Once upon a time, country music was almost exclusively the preserve of the solo singer but by the nineties there were a lot of groups, some of which only had fleeting success. Ricochet started brightly with this excellent album but two subsequent albums failed to consolidate their success. In May 2004 they released a live album on an independent label. The first five of the ten songs here are included on that live album, but here you get the original versions.
For this album at least, the group comprised Heath Wright (lead vocals, lead guitars, fiddle), Eddie Kilgallon (keyboards, vocals, acoustic guitar, sax), Jr. Bryant (fiddle, vocals, mandolin, acoustic guitar), Jeff Bryant (drums, vocals), Teddy Carr (dobro, lap steel) and Greg Cook (bass, vocals).
Daddy's money, a great rocking song about a woman who has everything, opens the album and is the best track here. Although nothing else quite matches it, there are some other fine rockers and some great ballads too. The overall feel of the album is upbeat.
If you like country groups such as Exile, Sawyer Brown and Diamond Rio, you might give this album a listen.

another very good effort.......1999-10-01
Ricochet again does what they do best... sing. They have the best harmony in the business today, no contest. The album is not a strong musically as the debut, but it is still entertaining and very well produced. After seing them live, I can't wait for "What A Ride" to hit the shelves.
A diverse follow-up to their debut album........1999-05-11
These guys have the most beautiful harmonies in country music. The only problem is...they don't use them to the full effect on this album. The songs are diverse and well-sung, but Ricochet can do better. "He Left a Lot to Be Desired," "Connected At the Heart," and "What a Woman Can Do" are probably the best efforts on the album, but "You Still Got It' and "Don't Forget to Feed the Jukebox" are not that good at all. Overall, this album is a pretty good listen, but their first attempt was definitely better.
Cut your hair- lay off the make-up and sing country.......1999-04-15
All the girls love these songs but hell they like anything talking about love. This music is almost painful to listen to. They should have stopped after their first album. I'll tell you what "Left a lot to be desired"-this album. I had to make myself try and like this music. When you have to do that you might as well get the kerosene and a match because all this CD's worth is a fire starter.
A CD with something for everyone!.......1999-04-06
The second CD from Ricochet didn't get the recognition it deserved. It has something for everyone. Country music fans get a bad rap for being unsophisticated, but a lot of us appreceiate a diversified sound. "Blink of an Eye" always makes me tap out a rhythm, and "Connected at the Heart" is probably one of the most intelligent and touching songs I have ever heard. If you like really good country music, or if you like really fun country music, "Blink of an Eye" is what you are looking for.
A Great CD.......1999-03-29
I think this cd is very underrated. He Left Alot To Be Desired is a great song. The heart and feeling in that song is what is to come from this group. Keep up the good work

This is a great CD. My favorites are "Corner Pocket", "Sweet Memories," and an excellent rendition of the old Stylistics tune, "You Make Me Feel Brand New." Vintage Richard Elliot, and, as usual, at his best.

High Energy Smooth Jazz.......2004-03-24
To my way of thinking, jazz topped out in about 1958. Smooth Jazz is not my favorite genre and I have reached the point where I can't stand the sound of a soprano saxophone. Anyway, my smooth jazz fan wife came up with tickets to a Richard Elliott concert in the District (a Jeff Loerber-led quartet opened but he and Elliott didn't play together). While I prefer Coltrane, I gotta admit the man can PLAY that goofy-looking black and white tenor! It was very funky, energetic, and had some good moments. All in all though, it kind of ran together and started to sound like the radio in my wife's car. For me, anyway. But, if you are into smooth jazz, this has to be a good CD to get.
Nice.......2003-10-06
I really enjoyed Ricochet. I am a fan of Richard Elliot and when I saw this c.d in a listening station at Circuit City I couldn't resist going over and listening to it. After browsing through the songs, I couldn't wait to put those headphones down and rush over to the shelf and purchase the c.d. It is a really good one, as a matter of fact I pulled it back out last night since I haven't listened to it in a while. Number 6 is one of my favorites. Overall, this c.d is very good and worth every cent.

The Second Album Picks Up Where The First Left Off..........2001-05-03
In 1967, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band released their first album (which is a hard to find Japanese import CD only) which was pretty much a mixture of styles, here the Dirt Band take the styles and find a great way to do them. There's kazoo-dominated numbers,rock/pop,folk and country. An album to get if you're interesting in what one of country music's most successful acts sounded like 34 years ago...

Album Description
Jonesy are the last great secret of the early seventies progressive rock era. A wildly acclaimed British group whose influences vary from Frank Zappa, can, neu, Ian Carr's nucleus and King Crimson, Popol Vuh and the west coast pop art experimental band. The original vinyl editions of their three original albums (from which this compilation is drawn) on pye's specialist dawn label are expensive collectables. The music has aged well and for once the inflated price tag is entirely justifiable. The group were brilliant musicians, pioneers who were not above creating under the influences of strange substances. The music is very psychedelic and hugely compelling.
