The sensational sounds of the '60s !!!.......2007-03-21
The 1960s were exciting times for the development of American rock and roll; and this CD contains twenty-five awesome tracks to prove it.
There's literally something for everyone on this CD. It's all here. You get the classic rock and roll sounds of "Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye)" by Steam; "The Beat Goes On" by Sonny and Cher; and "Spinning Wheel" by Blood, Sweat & Tears. Motown weighs in with The Chiffons singing "Sweet Talking Guy" with a terrific arrangement for the strings section; and even people who enjoy the "easier" listening sounds will thrill to Tom Jones' ballad entitled "She's A Lady;" "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" by the legendary Dusty Springfield and "San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair)" performed to perfection by Scott McKenzie.
But there's more. I love "little" Leslie Gore belting out the torchy "It's My Party" with its beautiful musical arrangement; "Help Me Rhonda" by The Beach Boys and "Monday, Monday" by The Mamas & The Papas. Excellent!
The quality of the sound is exceptional, even when I tried listening to parts of this CD using a portable CD player. The digital remastering of these songs brings them back to life as crisp and clear as if you were in a club somewhere listening to the artists singing right smack in front of you! The CD art work reflects good judgment with the pictures of the rock stars including Sonny and Cher; and the liner notes give you the song credits, too.
All in all, this CD is a great place to start for people who want to become acquainted with the great sounds of unforgettable 1960s American rock and roll. This CD can also be a single CD retrospective of this type of music for people who want to take a walk down memory lane. It's all here: You get happy songs, torchy ballads, lively upbeat numbers and even a few whimsical ballads reflecting the mood of the hippie movement as well.
