About the Artist
Born on December 17th, 1974, Tremayne Quennel Gist moved from Paducah, Kentucky to Marshalltown, Iowa with his parents and older brother at the age of 2. Early in his young life he was moved by the Parliament and Ohio Players albums his father would play from his large collection of vinyl records. While he and his brother both tried their hands at keyboards, guitars, and drum sets, Boo, as he was called by family members and friends was more interested in art.

Around the 3rd grade, he was introduced to breakdancing, but was more into the music then the moves. Around that same time his brother and he would bring home tapes of songs they recorded off the radio when they took their yearly summer trips to Kentucky. It was then that he was introduced to hip-hop like Melle Mel, Whodini, The Treacherous Three, The Fat Boys and Run-Dmc. For his birthday his mom bought him LL Cool J's "Radio".

"I remember playing it all the way through about 3 or 4 times the day I got it. It was always the first thing I did when I got home from school until my mom made me do my homework."

After listening to several other tapes with his friends, Tremayne was inspired to write his own songs by two albums: Public Enemy's "It takes A Nation of Millions To hold Us Back" and N.W.A.'s "Straight Outta Compton".

"To me those albums let me know that it was alright to think the way I wanted to think and not worry about what people think of me. Both albums were raw and both were way hard. They are the blueprints of the shit that these niggas out here today be spittin'."

As he perfected his writing and freestyling, he continued to bump into Aquaman(then known as Kid-T), the only local rapper he knew at the time. A long with their mutual friend Corey J. The two later began writing and freestyling together and would form several groups that didn't really go anywhere.

Eventually, Aquaman moved from Marshalltown to various areas in and around Iowa before settling in Des Moines where he signed to Venom Productions. Tremayne continued to develop his own skills and when Aqwamann was displeased with his venom contract, he bounced and hooked up with Nia and Mr. C, better known as Team Liquid. While they were recording their project, Aquaman never forgot his former partner and asked him to appear on 2 cuts, "Bounce To This", and "be about a bill", the rest is history.

Now Tremayne is a skilled lyricist and an equally skilled producer as evident on his self produced debut album, "If I Could Have It All." He describes his style of rhyming as "Straight Vodka", which is also the name of the label he owns and operates. " No gimmicks, no pop, no bullshit, just pure skill." His devotion to the underground doesn't overshadow the tight production that's found throughout the album, making it one of those records that can be uncompromising and still go mainstream.

"Shit, I represent the Midwest, and here we like shit you can bump

in yo' ride, but at the same time, I like to listen to tight flows

and lyrics so I try to do both without overshadowing the other."

One thing is certain though, his love for hip-hop can never be doubted. "I wanna be rich. Shit I'll never be the nigga to say that I don't care about money because I do. I have to eat and my goal is to eat strictly off this rap shit. Right now I have to have a full time job just to pay the bills but I know that with a lot of hard work, I can live solely off my music. If I can make the money I make at my job doing this rap shit my way and nothing else, that would be the shit .

Dowland, a contemporary of Shakespeare, discovered that meditating on a sad theme is, at the same time, a way of discovering a special beauty that we tend to avoid (maybe because of the "tragic" heritage of the Romantics). So, in the end, meditating on sadness is an uplifting experience! This box set is a journey into melancholy that includes songs, chamber music, pieces for lute, some rare sacred music and -as a highlight- Dowland's beautiful collection of seven pieces for viola which he called "Lachrimae" (Tears).

A Great Julie Andrews CD.......2002-01-27

The My Fair Lady suite is wonderful and Ms. Andrews definitely hit the high note at the end of "I Could Have Danced All Night".
Her version of "Edelweiss" and "The Sound of Music" are lovely.
Also worth listening to is "Living in the Shadows" written for the Broadway production of Victor/Victoria so you won't find it on the movie soundtrack. The lyrics are by Leslie Bricusse who also penned "Crazy World", which is another great selection on this cd.

Overall this is a cd worth having in your collection, so buy it today. Otherwise you are missing out.
