Kelis has always been game to subvert expectations. "Caught Out There," from her 1999 debut, Kaleidoscope, had her storming the airwaves with a chant of "I hate you so much right now!" After a sophomore disc that didn't see release in America, she returns with "Milkshake," a schoolyard taunt for grownup girls. The minimalist Neptunes production was an obvious first single from Tasty, but the CD hardly stops there. From collaborations with Andre 3000 ("Millionaire," a showcase for the OutKast frontman's falsetto) and Nas (the randy "In Public") and a rap-rock exercise ("Keep It Down") to irresistible updates of early-'80s R&B ("Protect My Heart," "Glow"), the disc offers plenty in the way of potential follow-ups. While less playful than some of her past work, Tasty brings a raised eyebrow and good humor to the 21st century sex-u-up template. --Rickey Wright

I got this for my dad because Don Rich(Buck Owens guitar player) plays on 2 or 3 tracks. He loves the cd.
I like Arlo..........2005-10-12
I like Arlo. After first hearing him 30 years ago I still put him on in the morning with my coffee. He is one of those artists that I buy over again when a new format comes in style (such as LP verses CD). I have never listened to any of his albums (no matter how many times) without either laughing, crying, singing along, dancing, or feeling that I have learned something new about humanity. I like him just as much and more than most artists I listen to. That includes Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Wilco, Modest Mouse, Neal Young, Ben Harper, Nine Inch Nails, The wallflowers, Radio Head, Ten Years After, The Beach Boys, Johnny Cash, Kieth Urban, and so on. This album is a great one -- I cannot put this on my player without singing along from the beginning to the end. If you like folk music Arlo is the modern master. He's a humble man and a great artist.
Last of the Brooklyn Cowboys.......2005-09-05
I first heard this album in the 70's, and thought it was great then, now I think it's even better.

Really great album.......2007-05-10
This album is so gorgeous! I wasn't a fan of Milkshake when it hit the airwaves and (wrongly) wrote the entire album off. But after getting hooked on Kelis Was Here, I decided to sample Kelis' discography. And let me say this: Tasty is one of the best album's I've ever owned. In contemporary(well...four years after the initial release) terms, this album would rival Nelly Furtado's Loose for supremacy when it comes to rock-hip-hop-pop. With The Neptunes, Andre 3000 and Raphael Saddiq, among others, at the helm, Tasty is a rock solid album.

I absolutely love this album!.......2007-03-21
This is the album that made me fall in love with Kelis. This album is wonderfully executed by Kelis herself. The songs, lyrics, production, and photo shoot are impeccable. Sugar Honey Iced Tea, Glow, Rolling Through The Hood are my favorite songs on this album. Check this album out!
You can always count on Kelis for originality and creatively. She is not the greatest vocalist. She makes up for that with super-size sass. Each song stands out on its own. This is the first album where Kelis started to distance herself from longtime collaborators The Neptunes. Kelis pulls it off with stunning results. What is even better is that the follow up album didn't feature Neptunes at all. The album is pure genius. The said album is Kelis Was Here.
Bad Taste!.......2006-12-28
The music is as bad as the woman behind it... tacky! Horrible lyrics, music, and just over all blah! Don't recommend
Different.......2006-09-03
This CD is not typical female R&B run of the mill blah. It has a Outkast feel with edgy hook crazy songs. Trick Me is insanely addictive. Her rapping isn't bad either. Milkshake while campy and repetitive is a infamous classic. Keep It Down has some rock to it that you never hear on a R&B CD. If you are looking for Beyonce type ballads or Pussycat Dolls tease-the-boys songs, then stay away. But if you want something with a different flavor, then try Kelis.
"Tasty" Brings Flavour At The Cost Of Some Quality!.......2006-09-02
After seeing her floptastic sophomore effort "Wanderland" fail to see the light of day in America & many other countries, Kelis is back with "Tasty" another unconventional mix of R&B, Hip-Hop, Pop & Rock. Despite calling in for help from the likes of Andre 3000 (of Outkast fame), Raphael Saadiq, Dame Grease, Dallas Austin and Rockwilder (amongst others) for 9 of the album's 14 tracks, "Tasty" takes a much more commercial route than "Kaleidoscope" & "Wanderland". Ironically though, this album fails to sound as eclectic as her insanely unconventional debut.
Sure, standout lead single "Milkshake" -a sassy club banger wrapped in deep synthesizers, lifted by heavy bass, topped off with confidently sexy vocals & creative raunchy lyrics, then sprinkled with an anthemic chorus & a few well-timed bell effects- is a flavourful offering that embodies everything about Kelis, from her risky, creative approach to music to her gradually increasing sex appeal. Hell, "Milkshake" could arguably be her best song to date, and surprisingly, it was none other than The Neptunes who produced it. However, "Tasty" fails to consistently provide the goods the way "Kaleidoscope" did.
Nonetheless, this album is still great, with plenty of highlights that come close to matching "Milkshake". Dallas Austin works his magic on international second single "Trick Me", combining killer guitar riffs with hollering background vocals, Kelis' powerful vocals, strong lyrics & a surprisingly great rap from Kelis. The aforementioned track is as close as you'll probably get to the old days of Kelis, and can easily be compared to her wacky debut single "Caught Out There" because both songs symbolize female empowerment after an awry relationship. Oh yeah, better not forget the disturbing lyrical bit relating to her man's privates (in this case..."Freedom to us has always been a trick/Freedom to you has always been, whoever landed on your d**k"). The rowdy R&B/Rock song "Keep It Down -complete with heavy synthesizers, even louder guitar riffs, powerful vocals & a soft, almost-acoustic pre-chorus, courtesy once again of Dallas Austin- also follows a similar route.
Andree 3000 features both as a vocal guest & as a producer on the outstanding "Millionaire" which highlights the hardships and loneliness of being a millionaire through insightful lyricism, Kelis' emotional vocals & Andre's squeaky falsetto over an infectious beat (heavy synthesizers, piano, etc.). Such shades of vulnerability are also displayed on the emotional ballad "Rolling Through The Hood". Produced by The Neptunes, the aforementioned ballad tells the story of catching her lover cheating on her. Unlike "Caught Out There" & "Trick Me", however, this ballad is much more emotional & optimistic. Instead of screaming "I hate you so much right now" or impenetrably declaring "I won't let you trick me twice", she soulfully croons lines like, "One day sooner than you'll know/We'll be living tomorrow/And we'll me laughing about today, today/Maybe tomorrow...", letting listeners know that no matter how far she dives into insanity, she's still human like everyone else.
Unfortunately, the cohesiveness of "Tasty" is brought down by a few disasters. "In Public", Kelis' disarmingly raunchy duet with Nas, pushes the boundaries way too far in its conquest to make sex sound more different than usual. In this case, it's having sex everywhere, from behind the trees, to the restaurants, to the bathrooms, etc. The musically nostalgic 80's-R&B vibe of the lovely "Protect My Heart" seems to lack the emotional sincerity displayed on "Rolling Through The Hood", and "Sugar Honey Iced Tea" is far too sour & syrupy for my tastes. Thankfully, "Tasty" provides enough surprises, resulting in another great R&B album. 4 stars!
Best 5 Tracks:
"Milkshake"
"Millionaire (feat. Andre 3000)"
"Rolling Through The Hood"
"Trick Me"
"Flashback" (flat-out catchy -and somewhat lusty- dance tune)

Was introduced to these guys by a college buddy from Jersey..........2006-12-11
This is one class act in rock & roll...they are top notch musicians of the highest order and this is the place to start your collection...they ain't pretty but they get the job done and man, do they ever get the job done. A friend of mine whom I worked with in college radio turned me on to the track "Papa Poppa" with the comment, "Does this not sound like it'd be a GREAT Guess Who tune?" I closed my eyes and listened, and I was hooked immediately. Over the years I've lost a few of their other albums but managed to hang onto this one...I'm rebuilding that collection now that I know I can again! GREAT New York-New Jersey rock & roll...no nonsense, no frills, just incredible playing, great vocals and super harmonies. Tasty not only describes their music...it defines it!
Masterful, Fun, and kick down the doors quality.......2006-12-03
Music is great and timeless when you hear it in the present and it takes you right to where you were when it first caught your senses. I first heard and bought this album in the late 70's on RatCity Records on vinyl. It completely stands above the level. This is so great and so beyond so much of what is going down these days in Major Label music. But, beyond that. The music is timeless. This is excellent music at it's best. Plus, it's independent.
Rock-n-Roll, Jazz, Jam band, Good Rats=Good Music. Plus one of the best damn rock-singers ever, anywhere!
[...]
Impressive work that stands the test of time.......2006-08-17
Up until recently, my view of the Good Rats were, at best, a good regional band. I remember seeing them live in 1976 and saying to a friend 'This band won't make it big. They don't have THAT look'. All I can say is for those who have the same or similiar thoughts, please read on.
Early in 2006, I heard the track 'Dear Sir' off the From Rats to Riches LP and thought it was from another artist. When I was told it was the Good Rats, I started listening to all the sample tracks from From Rats to Riches on Amazon. Days later, I was STILL listening.
Then I started listening to the sample tracks from Tasty. I decided to purchase Tasty to give this the full listen I felt it deserved. From the textures in the melodies to the pure musicianship displayed, I was excited and angry at the same time. If I only gave them a good listen 30 years earlier, I would have had the pleasure of having this music to enjoy for all these years. Maybe age and life experience have something to do with this, who knows.
For those that are looking for something 'old school' and will stand the test of time, (IMHO) this LP certainly does that and more. I have since purchased Live At Last and From Rats to Riches along with Tasty and plan to enjoy them in the years ahead.
Well-Trained Rats.......2006-04-14
Ditto the previous comments. I lost track of these guys when I left NY 25 yrs ago. This band is absolutely loaded with talent and creativity. I wore out my original vinyl of "Tasty" years ago. Ignore your fear of rodents and check them out. They are, after all, Good Rats. You'll be glad you did.
Go Directly to Uncle Rat.......2006-03-14
Still not sure about the Rats? You either haven't listened to them AT ALL, or you haven't read enough reviews. But I'm here to agree with Mr. Hamlett--if you're ready to buy, go right to www.goodrats.com and get your music right from Peppi himself...ok, so the website's a little cumbersome, but the prices are better and I got my sh*% REAL FAST, with a little note from Peppi himself. You like this band? Go the extra yard and send them the $$ directly. P.S. They're doing a live gig in NJ on 5/20/06 with John "The Cat" Gatto, save the date.
Peace and loudness,
Bektek

I Eat Cannibals & Other Tasty Trax was worth every penny. 5 Brits (Think 80's Spice Girls) have tackled their lyrics on every song with tongue n cheek lyrics and fun music. Great harmonies as well. They are TOTOlly underlooked. Put this one in your cd collection ASAP!!

A Cannibal Menu Review.......2001-06-18
Toto Coelo (or Total Coelo, depending on which continent you are on) is the unknown "Spice Girl" genre of music from the eighties. Colorful energetic girls with fun lyrics and catchy rhythms. You just can't go wrong with these British beauties! They always brighten the day, whether they are crooning about vampire lovers or drooling over a hunk of man meat--literally, these girls are cannibals! Seriously, Toto Coelo can be enjoyed by anyone with a taste for wit and delicious tempos. Eat it up, Cannibals!
Best Digested while eating Cannibals.,.......2000-11-03
I am willing to REFER THIS BAND just for their 80's cover. It is so vintage, so powerful and evoking of the olden days. I walked into this recordstore (can't say which) once and saw it on the shelf. It leered at my with busty 80's JOY. I gave it a listen, and boy, let me tell you, I eat Cannibals now too.
Total Coelo finally on CD!.......1999-12-24
If you ever heard the single "I Eat Cannibals" this is a must CD for your collection. This song and their whole CD are just incredible. Similar to Bananarama, but a little more funky. I heard the single to "I Eat Cannbals" in the early 80's, and luckily was able to get a maxi vinyl single, but was never able to get a copy of any other singles or a full length album. This is their entire album, plus a few extended dance trax on top. This is one CD you won't want to miss. It probably won't well very well, and won't be available very long.

This pretty much covers it -- good album!.......2006-04-22
It should be simple work to assemble a hits collection from just 3 albums, and this one succeeds. You'll find all of PMosh's hits here, and it makes for a great album. The only song I missed was Supercombo Electronico -- but that isn't a hit, just a personal favorite, so I can't complain. I don't care for the B-sides -- would have much preferred to get the rumored DVD, which this compilation does NOT include. New single Millionaire is great. My favorite songs are Te Lo Juro Por Madonna, Alo, Nino Bomba and Afroman.
Very tasty..........2006-04-18
After 3 full length albums (and their debut EP) Monterrey's finest duo has released a very "Tasty" compilation album to commemorate their 10 year anniversary. "Tasty" includes all of the singles they've released during this time, plus 3 new tracks (including the hit single millionare) and several hard to find B sides. The singles are guaranteed to satisfy while the B sides are kind of like a nice dessert. Be sure to check out Alejandro Rosso's rendition of the Elvis classic "Viva Las Vegas" and don't miss Jonaz' signature guitar riffs on "Ni?o Bomba" and his trademark style of good time rhymes on the awesome new track "Kinkinkazo". There's also a new DVD that includes all of their videos plus some other fun stuff.

Excellent!.......2003-09-22
This is a great album. Trout Fishing sometimes does some humor songs that you might not want to listen to over and over (like if the CD was in constant rotation) but that is not a problem on this CD. The only odd one is The Day the Bass Players Took Over the World and it is not disruptive (of a mood) to keep it out of CD rotation. The quality of every other song is unsurpassed. The best song in my opinion is "Not Fade Away" which sounds like a Buddy Holly tune but better. "Lost in Her Lips" and "Tongue Tied" are two other of my favorites but there are no sound bytes for them. The best test to see if you will like the album is listen to the clips for "Spider's Fence", "Cracked Up" and "Soon the Night". If you like those, they are pretty indicative of the album. "Soon the Night" is another that is especially good.
Who Are These People?.......2000-08-30
I will answer my own question - these people are quite possibly the best duo in America. These guys have been playing together for over 20 years and it shows - very together - you wonder how two guys can produce such a full sound.
My favorites are 'Not Fade Away' - a great rendition of the Buddy Holly clasic; 'The Day the Bass Players Took Over The World' - price some better speakers and watch out for this Napoleonic bass player; and 'Lucky Guy' - hilarious and touching. Buy this one.
Best Trout alblum.......1999-12-10
I think this is the best album the guys have ever produced. The only songs on it whih do not do much for me are "Ode to Big Blue" which is a not-so-hot rendition of an old Lightfoot song and "lost in her lips". Otherwise, it is a really great, free-spirited album and I encourage anyone who likes TFIA to buy this one first. For those who do not know TFIA, this is a great introduction to their music.
Some great songs mixed with some "not so hot".......1999-09-25
Most of the music on this cd does not do much for me, BUT there are 3 or 4 that are GREAT.... Ode to Big Blue, Lost in Her Lips, and, my favorite, The Day the Bass Players Took Over the World are worth the whole cd
Their first CD (but not their first Album).......1998-11-26
As a 10 year fan of Trout Fishing in America, I can unequivocally say that this is my favorite band of all time. I see them live whenever they come thru Texas.
My personal ranking of their 3 Adult CD's has "Who Are These People?" first, "Truth is Stranger than Fishing" second, and "Over the Limit" third.

Good Rats Rock - Again!.......2003-02-14
Tasty Seconds is totally tasty! As always, the band uses so many different music styles from song to song that entertain all tastes. Whether it be hard driving rock or a soft touch ballad, they keep you coming back for more. Relatively unknown here in western Canada, their music is a sweet change from the accepted standard tripe that hits the airwaves. Peppi, I'm sure must be a classic movie fan as many of his tunes refer to old time films or actors (Groucho's moustachio is a great line!). My son is entering his second year of minor football (Edmonton Chargers) at age 13 and I hope to introduce his coaches to "Football Madness" to play on their sound system during games. The first time I heard the album, it instantly became a familiar friend which puts me in that special place every time I listen to it. Keep up the great work, guys and, get well soon, Peppi!

Album Description
The Hollywood Blue Flames began life in 1975 as The Hollywood Fats Band, led by guitar phenomenon Michael "Hollywood Fats" Mann, and featuring what was arguably the best traditional blues line-up this side of 1954 - the multi-talented Al Blake on harmonica and vocals, legendary bassist Larry Taylor from Canned Heat, veteran drummer Richard Innes, and featuring Lloyd Glenn protege Fred Kaplan on piano. Sadly, Fats passed away unexpectedly in 1986, and the band members all went on to other successful musical ventures.
Now they've reunited for one of the most anticipated blues releases in years, under the banner The Hollywood Blue Flames - appropriately named, as they both fired and carry the torch of the blues into a new millennium. And to fill the huge musical shoes of Fats, no one could be a better choice than Kirk Fletcher, a young man who was literally raised on the sounds pioneered by the original incarnation of this band. Fletcher plays with the taste and power that truly does justice to not only this band's illustrious legacy but also the blues masters who inspired them.
The Hollywood Blue Flames literally burn their way through a set of fresh originals sprinkled with well-chosen covers on their new CD "Soul Sanctuary." This is blues with both a history and a future - and it's as fresh as today. It doesn't get any better than The Hollywood Blue Flames.

Too Cool West Coast Blues.......2006-09-23
I also stumbled upon this CD and thought I had found the Holy Grail. You can smell the smoke and taste the gin when listening to this disk. The rhythm section is rock solid, the guitar work outstanding and the interplay between the guitar and piano is just mesmerizing to me. I really enjoy the harmonica and vocal stylings too. It's just an outstanding CD and I can't stop listening to it. I would highly recommend you give this a try, the Road to Rio disk and the Hollywood Fats recordings - you won't regret it.
Where have I been?.......2006-09-09
This is another album I luckily stumbled upon. If you want hip hop, this probably is not for you, unless you have finally come to your musical senses. If you've had life experiences they sing about ( within reason, of course...I mean, who has been "born on a mountain, raised in a lion's den"?, it makes the songs more personal and special.
My favorites:
Coco Puffin' ( the sample doesn't include the soul stirring guitar work of Kirk Fletcher...maybe you can listen to the whole song from an online music service)
Flamed
Nit Wit
I'm a Lucky, Lucky Man
Black Cat Bone

This Is A Great Album!.......2005-05-20
This is a great album in the west coast and Chicago style blues. The band is the late Hollywood Fat's band (Hollywood Fats = Michael Mann) with Kirk Fletcher on guitar. Al Blake on vocals, harmonica & guitar, Richard Innes on drums, Fred Kaplan piano & organ, Larry Taylor bass. Kirk Fletcher is a superb guitar player and this album is a must have if you like guitar players like Ronnie Earl, Dave Specter, Alex Schultz & Steve Freund! The rest of the guys are as good as it can get!
