Grows on You........2007-07-12
I bought this album a couple months ago, and , initially, I wasn't too impressed. However, it has grown on me after repeat listenings and I have grown to appreciate it much more. It is definitely the most rocking of his Christian-Era albums. As a Christian, I am reassured by the messages in this collection of songs and the music and lyrics are solid. I have gotten into Dylan seriously only over the last couple of years. This is a valuable contribution to the Dylan canon.
A Desert Island Disk.......2007-06-19
How can any Dylan Fan Not Like This Album-TURN IT UP LOUD. Its Rough and Hard but its real. Listen to the words. Thankfully it now contains "Grooms still waiting at the altar" which wasn't on the vinyl. It Finishes with the Seriously Beautiful "Every Grain of sand" which just may possess the most melodic and soulfull harp that dylan ever played. Just buy it.
"I can see the Master's hand in every leaf that trembles, in every grain of sand.".......2007-05-12
While Shot of Love is one of Bob Dylan's most underrated albums, it does have its problems. The title track and album opener, "Shot Of Love," is good, but hardly a "Tangled Up In Blue," a "Changing of the Guards," or even a "Gotta Serve Somebody" quality song. The outtake "Caribbean Wind," from the Biograph box set, would have opened the album on a much stronger note as it is a great, great song that unfortunately didn't make it on the album. "Heart of Mine" is among Shot of Love's best tracks, a song that features Ron Wood on guitar and Ringo Starr on drums. "Property of Jesus" is good, but the outtake "You Changed My Life" would have been a much better choice. "Lenny Bruce" is the most criticized song on the album and why it wasn't replaced with the beautiful outtake "Angelina" is beyond me.
The second half of Shot of Love is much stronger. "Groom's Still Waiting At The Altar" especially rocks with the best of Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde. The outtake "Need A Woman" would have made a fine addition on side two. "Every Grain of Sand" concludes the album on a powerful note. It is a song of great struggle, of constantly trying to hold onto religious faith despite living in a world of sin, injustice, and death. Faith provides peace and comfort, but in the "reality of man," doubt sets in. "Every Grain of Sand" is very sad, but when faced with life's greatest challenges, we can always have faith and hope in God.
Like the follow-up album Infidels, Shot of Love is a near masterpiece that would have been much better if the weakest tracks had been replaced with the much superior outtakes. If the following track list had been the album, we would be discussing a critically acclaimed comeback.
1. Caribbean Wind
2. Heart of Mine
3. You Changed My Life
4. Angelina
5. Watered-Down Love
6. Groom's Still Waiting At the Altar
7. Need A Woman
8. Dead Man, Dead Man
9. In The Summertime
10. Trouble
11. Every Grain Of Sand
I have all Dylans albums and for me this one is my favourite........2006-08-30
The production on this album is lean & very exciting - it is how I imagine Dylan would sound if he was heading a garage rock band. For me this is how rock albums should sound - Rough & Edgy.
I have all Dylans albums (somewhere in the mid-forties I think Bob's at now)and this one is my favourite. I've been playing it regularly now for 25 years.
When it originally came out I remember the reviews were terrible. Dylan turning born-again christian really got the music hacks backs-up and they slated it over here in the U.K.
Peoples prejudices, Dylans antics at the time and his subsequent 7 year artistic dry spell after this album (not relieved until 1989's "Oh Mercy") meant it went off the radar for around twenty years. Quality shines through though in the end and only now is it finally getting the recognition it deserves.
I'm not a christian so the fact that many of the songs have a religious context to them doesn't influence me one iota in writing a positive review. Maybe the opposite is the case i.e. the christian element is putting you off possibly, well I would recommend you get over any prejudice ASAP because you're missing out on something special here.
The songs are strong and some like "Lenny Bruce" & "Every Grain Of Sand" are deservedly recognised as the very best of the best of Dylans mighty impressive song book!
I once read that "Shot of Love" was Dylans own favourite of his albums..., take that as some sort of recommendation from the man himself.
The cover may be naff, but the music is great. Get it and enjoy is my recommendation!
My first Dylan album...luckily, they got better...........2006-08-04
This was the first Bob Dylan I ever bought. I remember the reviews being rather poor, but I still wanted to hear it. Even back when I first got it, I didn't think it was the greatest, but I liked playing it anyway. That is, until I got other Dylan albums, which were far superior to this. This is not Dylan's worst (Self Portrait, Dylan, Knocked Out Loaded, and Down in the Groove can qualify for that), but it isn't very good. There are some great tracks (Every Grain of Sand and the title track), some good (In the Summertime, Heart of Mine, and Lenny Bruce), and some godawful (Trouble, Watered Down Love). It boggles my mind a bit that some of the tracks from these sessions (which later appeared on The Bootleg Series, Vol. 3) didn't make the final cut. The songs Angelina and Need a Woman are far superior to anything on this album (especially Angelina, which I think is one of Dylan's most mysterious and beautiful songs). The song Groom's Still Waiting at the Altar is very good, but it wasn't included on the original vinyl pressing. It was added years later (and is on this CD). Some of the lyrics are drivel (especially for Dylan). Luckily, Dylan's next one, Infidels, is a vast improvement. So, aside from being my first Dylan album, there's nothing really special or interesting about it. Just a footnote in the Dylan catalog...

Typical Mancini.......2007-03-25
First, I really like Mancini's music generally and I am really concerned that he may be one of the greats of American music who will soon be forgotten if he hasn't been already. (US music schools tend to be a little snobby and don't give a number of truly great American composers their due.) However, the mix of this particular CD is simply too average. Many good songs are not on it and some weak ones are. I would not recommend this CD except to ManciniPhiles like me.
It's Hard to Believe He's Gone.......2006-05-23
Henry Mancini gave us so much of our consciousness of the 1960s and 1970s, and yet was "out" almost as soon as he was "in."
His work became synonymous with much-despised "elevator music" in the later 1960s. This stereotype (or monotype, for his earliest works) can mislead.
For example, "Lujon" [not in this collection] was used in a movie just last year to exemplify mystery and an exotic atmosphere.
Mancini dies way too young. While some would argue that he'd become a self-parody, his innate gifts compromised by relentless commercialization, you cannot take away his lasting gift to our culture. He was an original, and he captured an essence of our collective experience.
He's here in this collection, waiting round the bend, my Huckleberry friend.
Nostalgic.......2006-02-20
A great trip down memory lane. The selections sound just like I remember them from the movies and the radio. Enjoy
Henry Mancini's Greatest Hits.......2005-07-13
This CD is all one needs to understand why this dude is the master when it comes to composing. Having been introduced to this great human being at an early age, my fascination for his work is still a vital part of my being. This CD is just what I have always wanted. It has all the classics, along with some older gems I never knew existed. I love it so much, that I am going to send my mama back home one. She was, is and always will be perhaps his GREATEST FAN ever. If you just can't live without Mancini's music, then this CD is for you. Enjoy, enjoy,
enjoy!!

Album Details
Digitally Remastered Double Anthology of the Pop and Soundtrack Composer from the 50's and 60's. Perhaps his Best Counterpart of Today Would Be John Williams. A Film Maker Could Always Rely on Mancini to Deliver a Composition that Hit the Mark for a Film and Conveyed Exactly What was Required and More. He also Filled the Role of an American Mantovani, Recording 'muzak' Versions of Popular Hits. He was Handsome, Personable, but Most of All, Well Respected for his Craft.
Customer Reviews:
not enough Galway.......2003-10-02
There are only four songs with James Galway. The way this recording is presented is misleading and buyers should be aware that this is NOT a joint effort between these two great artists.. I was totally disappointed. I think Henry Mancini is wonderful but was expecting to hear a collaboration. So if you're looking for flute music this isn't it. However it's a great collecton of Henry Mancini's work.
Too Good to Last.......2000-03-03
I heard this on PBS. Galway and Mancini may be two of the most talented musicians of our century. Galway for his complete mastery of the flute and Mancini for his ability to arrange , produce and in this instance direct the orchestra while Galway performs. They do several duets of a comical nature as well. This is important because it is one of Mancini's last efforts prior to his unfortunate passing.

Billy Ray Cyrus may be completely convinced of the magnitude of his own heart, but you can't trust him. Throughout his fifth studio album, Cyrus berates himself (or others) for not loving enough, for not letting go, for not living up to others' vague examples, for not spending more time with the kids. The sentiments are expressed in a musical and lyrical language as treacly as it is pat. Even when the themes stretch, Cyrus's voice has the uncanny capacity to transform a genuine line such as "I gave my soul to Jesus at the age of 22" (Cyrus got his start in gospel) into the thinnest gruel. Pity, as sonically Shot Full of Love is frequently satisfying, the toughest country rock he's yet mustered. Dead Reckoning veteran Mike Henderson dominates the guitar work, though it's hard to imagine him keeping a straight face while Cyrus crows about the "American Dream" or boasts about "rocking this planet." A real country song or two might have redeemed such posturing. --Roy Kasten
Customer Reviews:
shot full of love-easy on the ears.......2004-03-25
This is one of my favorite collections of his songs- Hows my world treating you, you gotta love it, the lyrics alone are such that we all can relate to having been there and wish we could have put it so elequently. Billys has the ability to vary his vocals according to the theme of every song he sings- and then change the tempo and still make it sound completely different yet equally appealing. The man speaks and it sounds like music to my ears.
BRC is Back.......2003-04-15
So Billy Ray Cyrus is back with new material, a new look, and and all-new, matured sound. While Shot Full of Love is not exactly comeback material, it does put Billy's music in a new light. While his songwriting is essentially the same as always, his voice has a new sound to it. Gruff but refreshingly smooth, Billy coasts through the tracks on this album with beautiful heartfelt emotion. Just read the liner notes, and you will feel what Billy feels, and realize his inspiration. Unfortunately, Shot Full of Love runs through almost exactly like Cover to Cover, the reason it lost a star. Though the songs feel mostly like BRC in his "Storm in the Heartland" days, you do get an updated feel in songs like "Give My Heart to You" and "Busy Man," the two big hits on this album. Although a shades-of-Setzer swinger ("Rock This Planet") and a could-be-Bon Jovi rocker ("Shot Full of Love") are found among the tracks possibly throwing off listeners used to BRC's country-rock style, he generally keeps it as real as he ever has. A success, but for his real comeback and a truly updated sound, check out Southern Rain.
BRC is Back.......2003-04-14
Well, although I wouldn't call this Billy Ray's "comeback" album, it certainly shows some evolution in his sound. True country fans, look somewhere else, but BRC fans, this is the place to turn. With tons of novelty BRC songs like the opening track, you'll find that his song choice hasn't changed much. However, he puts his heart and soul into singing these songs, and his voice has matured greatly from the days of "Achy Breaky." The sound he opts for is more of a "Storm in the Heartland," and it works. With obvious style flair like on the not-even-close-to-country rocking title track and the swinging, shades-of-Setzer "Rock This Planet," it is indeed a fun album. But comeback? No. His true comeback is Southern Rain. I recommend both for the true BRC fan.
~All negative reviews denied. This 'rocks this planet'!~.......2001-10-28
In spite of what the reviewer from amazon.com sais, I think that this is a great album. It is sortof the change-over from two time periods of Billy Ray's music. It's got alot of great songs on it, and is one of the most complex albums I have ever heard.

my daughter and i met Billy Ray at a local store ! He is the greatest man you would ever want to meet .He was very nice to all of his fans!
Just a footnote in the Dylan catalog...

as good as it gets.......2002-10-04
No one will ever interperate Kurt Weill like this genious lady. She has the most captivating voice in show business! I could never give a good enough review to this excellent album. I wish everyday that I could've seen this show live.
Other albums of her's to buy:
La Boheme with Leonard Bernstein, Jerry Hadley, and Angelina Reaux and Frida, an album in which she portrays the famous artist Frida Kahlo.
Love this lady,
Zac Bush
Kurt Weill Interpreter.......2002-05-20
A singer's singer. This lady is an excellent interpreter of Kurt Weill. She has a an expressive classically trained big voice. Most of the famous Kurt Weill's are on here arranged in a song cycle... A woman in dark glasses in a fur coat checks in to a hotel room, sits on the bed and opens her suitcase... and we are shown through song the meagre contents of her life...
Good companion artists are Patricia O'Callaghan and Ute Lemper.

A genius worthy of Weill...finally..........2002-04-14
Allfolter approaches Weill with the same no-nonsense, visceral and unsentimental clarity that is required of an artist creating Loge in Twilight of the Gods, along with the enigmatic sensitivy of the Act III Tristan.
Throw in the gift of being able to belt one out with the best of them and it works. It works Big Time. This man is a genius. Not even Lenya delivers the Bilbao Song so well -- and I felt, in 2002, that I was hearing September Song for the first time. There isn't one clunker on the whole c/d.
Magnificent. Who is this man? where has he been all our lives?
