    I admit to knowing very little about Giant Sand, apart from the fact that the two instrumentalists play together in Calexico, and that an album, 'Chore of Enchantment' received praising reviews last year. After buying Calexico's 'Hot Rail', I became intrigued by the Tex-Mex cum alt-country stylings, and decided to investigate further, and found a link to a band called Giant Sand. Then, I read a preaching review of Giant Sand frontman Howe Gelb's career, claiming it was he, not the usually accredited Uncle Tupelo who 'invented' alt-country (whatever that is..) So, I mused at first rhetorically, what's the fuss about Giant Sand? Then I decided to investigate. After a few days of listening to 'Collections..' it starts to become clear(ish) Musique maestra
