This is not the typical example of an artist from another genre jumping on the crowded standards-and-ballads bandwagon. When I Fall in Love instead represents an instrumental stylist busting out of a box to find a much more suitable platform for his craft. These tracks are the fruits of an obvious labor of love for everyone from the featured musicians to the arrangers to the engineers. The arrangers, particularly Billy Childs and Gil Goldstein, give Botti's trumpet a broad-brushed orchestral backdrop that allows him to emerge from the swirling strings and bouncy horns with bold strokes of creative improvising. Some tracks are obvious nods to Gil Evans and the lush arrangements of 1970s CTI recordings. Even the guest vocalists, Sting and Paula Cole, let his trumpet sing first before their respective cues on "La Belle Dame Sans Regrets" and "What'll I Do." The only blemish here is the obvious attempt at smooth jazz airplay with Sade's "No Ordinary Love." --Mark Ruffin

This guy is awesome..I need not say more, but I'm gunna. I'm totally laughing at the reviews, particualry because Chris added a rendition of Sade's "No Ordinary Love". OMG, the song is so beautiful, just as "Ever Since We Met" is on ATKD. I understand how and why artist get jaded, when their efforts aren't well recieved when they do great work...example (Chante Moore), but I digress. Their really isn't in my awesome opinion to much critque about this Chris Botti's work. I'm pretty sure these are the same people that hate the company APPPLE and their products..Well guess what ," The intelligent crowd is always smaller than the mainstream" My question is..Where do you land? All you psudeo critics I compare to the "Holier Than Thou" crowd, whom make me shout "Let's here it for SIN!". Chris is awesome, although his first cd "First Wish" was tad on the SNUZ side. However, the day I find fault in one of his new cd's.... call me and I'll eat my words as we do lunch on the moon.

5 out of 5 stars Chris Botti - Great Date CD.......2007-07-15

Chris Botti is spectacular. What a great talent. This CD is so far my favorite, but then I still have not heard all of his. It is so romantic, peaceful, and happy. I love it.

I bought this CD for my husband (he is a big Smooth Jazz lover). After I heard it I thought the CD was so romantic and it just set the mood for a fine relaxing evening for the two of us. Guess I'm now a Smooth Jazz lover.

I'm in the Mood for Love...The Most Romantic Melodies of All Time is Kenny G's twist on the trend that's found artists, from Rod Stewart to Gladys Knight to Barry Manilow, repurposing classics for modern consumption. Or is it? A scan of the track selection is as likely to get listeners wondering whether he's covered these songs before as it is to drum up curiosity about how they'll sound spiraling out of his signature sax. For instance: silky as "The Way We Were," the Barbra Streisand chestnut, comes across, it stirs a sense of déjà vu as much as wonderment; as does the Sinatra medley "Fly Me to the Moon/You Make Me Feel So Young." Such familiarity is without doubt the product of impeccable taste and a seasoned ear--somebody, whether it's Kenny G or a behind-the-scenes studio type, knows what works for the curly-topped jazzman and what's better left un-saxed. Still, such scrutiny can make for a disc that's aurally matchy-match; a stab at an out-there number--Etta James' "At Last" or U2's "With or Without You"--might have worked, too. That said, hats off to the G-man for pronouncing a couple of recent hits among the most romantic of all time: Alicia Keys "If I Ain't Got You" deserves it especially, and is mesmerizing here. --Tammy La Gorce

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Never Disappointed.......2007-07-27

I have always enjoyed the artistry of Kenny G. This album is no exception.

5 out of 5 stars A Romantic CD to Listen With a Loved One..........2007-05-29

For me, Kenny G's albums are a hit or miss. This is a hit. Here we got 13 songs, ranging from standards to torch songs. Kenny G also plays tenor saxophone a bit more than his previous recordings.

Highlights include "You're Beautiful", "Yesterday", "I'm in the Mood for Love", The Way You Look Tonight, & an interesting version of Alicia Keys's "If I Aint Got You" (however alto saxman Eric Darius's version is better).

The surprise tracks however is "The Shadow of Your Smile" & "Fly Me to the Moon/You Make Me Feel So Young". The former has a bossa nova favor to it while the latter is done behind a big band.

This album will not appear to everyone; most purists & anti-Kenny G people won't touch this with a 39 1/2 foot pole. For the rest of us, this is great for those nights with that special someone.

4 out of 5 stars Getting In The Mood.......2007-05-29

Everyone gets in the mood for love every now and then.So when that mood hits you it"s so nice to have Kenny G"s "I"m In The Mood For Love" comming to your rescue.Along with that someone special in your life.Compiling a list of great romantic melodies is no easy task. With so many great romantic melodies to choose from. But Kenny G does manage to put together a good list of songs.Kenny G mixes some old songs in with some not so old songs. And the end result is a wonderful melody of sound. All design to get and keep you in that special mood for love. Now all these songs have been recorded before. But on this album Keeny G gives us his very own romantic interpertations of classics like "I"m In The Mood For Love","If" and "The Way We Were".The album gets off to a good start with James Blunt "You"re Beautiful" very nicey done by Mr G.And he takes it soft and easy on the songs "Yesterday" and "The Shadow Of Your Smile".He picks it up a bit on the songs "Fly Me To The Moon" and "You Make Me Feel So Young".These two songs bring back memories of Frank Sinatra. And the song I like the most on the album "The Way You Look Tonight" I think this song as a great feeling to it.I ready like this album but like so many other Kenny G fans.I can"t wait until he does his next album of original music. But until then just sit back with a cool glass of wine and enjoy this music by yourself or with someone you love.

5 out of 5 stars just sit back and enjoy.......2007-05-26

This latest cd by Kenny G is one that will make you just sit back and enjoy. That special someone and a glass of wine helps to add to the mood that is set when listening to this cd. This cd might just bring back some of those special memories. Can't go wrong with this one. True romantics will love this cd.

5 out of 5 stars As good as ever.......2007-02-11

If you have always liked Kenny G's music, you will like this album. He has taken a long break from new studio recordings, but this album proves he hasn't ignored his instrument during his hiatus! Everyone is doing standards these days, and they lend themselves well to Kenny G's style. Recommended!

5 out of 5 stars For play , and play and play.......2007-07-12

I have been a fan of Bob James for decades now. I hear his old records today as if they were just produced . The same will happen with this one. A gem in all aspects.

4 out of 5 stars do they stop ?.......2007-05-20

These guys have a combined age of over 200 and still they continue to write such great tunes . Eastern sky will shock even the hard 4play fans

5 out of 5 stars Most likely their best effort to date.......2007-03-27

With each subsequent CD, it seems like Fourplay gets better and better. 'Turnabout' brings back memories of the first few CDs they released when they had Lee Ritenour on guitar. Even Steve Winwood would have to admit that Michael McDonald gives new texture to 'My Love's Leavin'. This band has been making great music since 1991. If this is your first Fourplay purchase, it will make you want to buy each of the previous nine CDs; even the offering of Christmas music!

4 out of 5 stars Get This In Your CD Player .......2007-03-27

Any person that knows smooth jazz will tell you that these four guys by themselves are major forces on their own. But when they combine their incredible talents for a project..well here is the result.. "X"
This is pure listening enjoyment. Not one bad song is on this one. Whether you are in your car or sitting at home with a glass of Scotch(my favorite!) this is one that will not disappoint. Larry Carlton shines on guitar as always and the keyboard work of Bob James just sets it off. Nathan East adds his class on bass and the drum work of Harvey Mason is what makes these songs just flow together like a perfect day. Incredible sounds that will only have leave you saying at the end why did they only put nine songs on this.

4 out of 5 stars Easy on your ears........2007-03-25

Fourplay return with their tenth set that oozes the quality and accomplished playing you would expect.
Cuts like Bob James' "Turnabout" and the breezy "Eastern Sky" epitomize what Fourplay is about.
Michael McDonald adds his distinctive vocals to the dramatic ballad "My Love's Leavin".
Check the flowing Jazz jaunt "Screenplay" on which James' playing is particularly expressive.
The band's trademark light touch and melodic focus characterise this set that is their finest for many years.

Somewhere, Kenny G is hiding behind his cascading ringlets in shame. Chris Botti, a jazz world super-talent whose trumpeting earns frequent comparisons to Miles Davis and Chet Baker, has found the formula for classing up the pop charts, and within it there's not a single soaring sax or tired attempt at career revivalism to be found. What we're treated to instead is an all-star lineup (Sting, Gladys Knight, Michael Buble and others) vocally saluting a musician whose resume reads like a page torn out of the Rock Snob's Dictionary: in addition to touring with Sting, Botti has played sideman to Paul Simon, Natalie Merchant, Joni Mitchell, and dozens more. Here that experience pays off handsomely. Gone are the matinee-idol smooth artist's earlier experiments with jazz synthesizers and pop-fusion compositions (see 2002's Night Sessions for those), and present in their place are his classical instincts. Gil Evans might have been his guide as the unmistakable opener "Embraceable You," one of a handful of instrumental tracks, swirls into the enchanting, ultra-sophisticated "What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life," for instance, and listeners need not feel like fogies for loving it. If Steven Tyler can sign on to sing along with a traditional arrangement of Charlie Chaplin's "Smile" while the London Session Orchestra lays down its trademark jazz lushness behind him, after all, you can let down your guard long enough to admit this disc leaves you feeling vaguely dreamy. --Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars Chris Botti "To Love Again" C/D.......2007-05-13

This is the most incredible music!! Luscious sounds!! I was blown away when I first heard it. The duet with Sting is amazing! This song alone is worth the price.

5 out of 5 stars excellent.......2007-04-01

I recently discovered Chris Botti and just love his style of playing. I play the trumpet as well (sporadically) and Chris gives me a sound to aspire to emulate. Excellent

5 out of 5 stars LOVE IT !!!!!.......2007-03-28

Yes another smooth and playful CD by one of my favorites. This compilation of music and artists is playful and relaxing. I love all the songs except one of them (which I wont mention just in case you may like it). I especially love the song with Sting SUPERB!!

5 out of 5 stars Inspiration and Affirmation.......2007-03-08

This is a beautiful album and is highly recommended for anyone recovering from the end of a relationship
and seeking to move ahead. It is quite possible 'To Love Again'...this album is very sustaining during a
time of transition, especially if there is already someone on the horizon. We all deserve love.

1 out of 5 stars A CD I cannot use.......2007-03-08

I listen to my music on my computer through iTunes. I bought this CD assuming I would be able to import it to iTunes like the others I have purchased in the past. That is impossible with this "ENHANCED" CD. In fact it includes a warning that you must uninstall it immediately to protect the security of your computer. The music may be good, I wouldn't know. The only thing I have been able to listen to is the samples on Amazon. I guess I will be buying my music through iTunes in the future. Amazon should be more persistent in posting warnings about SONY CD's.

I purchased the Isley Brothers CD for a gift. The recipient loved it so much, she recommended it to all of her friends. It was best compilation of love songs.

5 out of 5 stars Love it!.......2007-01-28

This music is the bomb,, easy listening ,makes you think about the special people in your life or the journey that has taken place in your life.great music to have. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars A lovemaking album, from start to finish!!!!!.......2007-01-26

The Isley Brothers at its finest. I bought this cd in April 2001, and on May 5th, 2001, it set the mood. My ex and I made love, and this cd was playing. Before we made love, he looked at me, and said, What you know about the Isley Brothers? I answered a lot. I know one thing: Their slow jams definitely set the tone. Every track is sensational, especially Sensuality!!!( Every day, I dream of holding you close to me, every night I find, me touching your lips with mine)!!! Come on, it doesn't get any better than this. I can guarantee you that this cd, will put you in the mood. Maybe for baby making, or just making love with that special someone.

5 out of 5 stars creme de la creme from the soul balladeers.......2007-01-14

Possibly one of the best soul groups in history, The Isley Brohters have countless music from a half century span of time. My favorites of their work consist of their slow and slower mid-tempo love jams, which is why I am so into this love songs collective. Most of my favorite songs like "For The Love Of You," "Between The Sheets," "Footsteps In The Dark," "Make Me Say It Again, Girl'" and a personal fav, the spiritual and mystical "Voyage to Atlantis," one of the best songs of any genre ever conceived. Unfortunately, "Caravan Of Love" by Isley, Jasper, Isley is not here, perhaps for it not being a slower jam. Regardless, Love Songs is an awesome intro or reflective of the Isley family genius.

5 out of 5 stars REAL BABY MAKIN MUSIC.......2007-01-11

THIS CD IS NOTHIN BUT THE TRUTH! LOVE ME SOME ISLEY BROS.I GREW UP LISTENING TO THEM AS A KID, AND BELIEVE ME, I SEE WHY THEY ARE STILL AROUND! THEY GO BACK SOME 50 YEARS AND STILL IN THE GAME , DESPITE HIS LEGAL TROUBLES. THE CD ITSELF IS BABY MAKIN MUSIC. ALL THE SONGS PUT YOU IN A SENSUAL MOOD! TRUE ISLEY BROS FANS WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED! Among the originators of the Philly soul sound of the late '60s and pre-disco '70s, the Delfonics fashioned hit after hit with the same basic formula of ultra-romantic crooning, three-part harmonies, and a supremely mellow accompaniment that came with a pillow of lush string orchestrations. The 20 Delfonics hits collected on La-La Means I Love You--including their best-known songs, "La-La Means I Love You" and "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)"--amount to R&B easy-listening, often soothing to the degree they become aural wallpaper. At times, though, this stuff can transcend its own schmaltz. --Roni Sarig

Delfonics fans-take a listen. Every track is here, excellent recordings, and still the lush group blend that takes you there and back. It's a smooth ride!

4 out of 5 stars Soul Heaven.......2007-06-04

A great soul album. I missed out on the Delfonics in the 70's, but was alerted to what they were by the Quentin Tarantino film "Jackie Brown". Great songs, performed with true conviction and musicality.

5 out of 5 stars TY BESS(THE MUSIC MAN).......2006-12-23

Out of all the best of cd,s this collection really has the best of the group!.The classic La la la means i love you, over and over, told you so and didnt i blow your mine is just the tip of the ice berg.A group that thom bell(master producer of the spinners early albums with atlantic records)work with and they nail every song on this cd.The so called r& b out today can,t hold a candle to one of the masters of r&b the mighty delfonics enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars The Delfonics were bad! .......2006-09-17

I remember being able to hit all the high notes you'll hear on this excellent compilation of lush Philly Soul. If I try it now, I'm off work for three days. When I first heard "He Don't Really Love You" (not included here) I was like, "WHO IS THIS?????" By the time they hit with "You've Been Untrue" (also not included), I knew they were a regional group bound for the big-time. Enter La-La (Means I Love You) and the rest is....well you know.... Anyway, I'm proud to own this disc, and like a dream come true, the 4th disc on the nostalgia inducing Cameo-Parkway 1957 - 1967 Box Set contains both of those pre-breakout tunes I've mentioned. The Delfonics? When you get right down to it, these guys were bad!!!!

5 out of 5 stars A good start..., and didn't War sing...."where was you at"....!?.......2006-04-05

Rhythm & blues music listeners were not necessarily Doo-Wop listeners, who did not necessarily move to the new sound of the sixties, Motown etc., and those not necessarily to the sweet soul sound of the early 70s, or on to the disco sound of the later 70s and on......... Point being, music has always had a tendency of impacting (especially teenagers) the listener as tied in to the era released. That does not mean old school music cannot be enjoyed by non era listeners, good music, as Lou Rawls so eloquently put it.... "will last forever" but, as an example if the question is raised "where was you at" when you first heard the 45 "My New Love" by the Delfonics (so often played on urban radio stations in '68 (also on the "Sounds Of Sexy Soul" lp) and an overlooked song on "hits" cds (do the cd song compilers even know?), what is one's reply? Beginning with their debut single, 1966 "He Don't Really Love You" on the obscure "Moon Shot" record label, followed in 1967 by the 45 "You've Been Untrue"- Cameo-Parkway label, through the last album release in 1974 on Philly Groove Records, the Delfonics music has been sought by those who know and love, "East Coast Sweet Soul" and the Philly Sound". It is a type of music! The writer is taken aback when reading, "This stuff can transcend it's own schmaltz"? "Stuff"? Whoa-a! This is music of an era, late 60s - mid 70s. "Where was we at...., when these songs and albums were released? Fifties "Doo-Wop" or 90s "House" music may be far from everyone's taste but, for those impacted by the music of, at the time, just as relevant to them as the various types and era of music listened to and enjoyed by others, are to them. I personally find it difficult to believe a truly insightful review can be written about music unless the writer was "there" during the era of release. An era has it's own "feel". For those who liked/loved the music of the Delfonics, this compilation is a good start, it has 20 songs on it. The reason the Delfonics albums have long since been chased collectible albums is because the songs not on the few, "hits" cds are harbored there, "My New Love", "For The Love I Gave To You", etc., etc., etc., not on the "hits" releases. Recently, all their albums except "Tell Me This Is A Dream"-1972, have been reissued, finally! With "La La Means I Love You"-1967, "The Sounds Of Sexy Soul"-1968, "The Delfonics"-1970, "Alive & Kicking-1974", and the unreleased (in 1976) lp "The Professionals", released on cd, the music of the Delfonics (minus their first 2 releases, the two 45s) is now availible to all, at digital sound quality! This cd, loaded with sweet soul classics but, not all! The album reissues contain more! The Delfonics, it's Buy Time!

5 out of 5 stars I'M NOT A JAZZ LOVER BUT I DO LOVE THIS CD.......2007-02-01

When come to jazz, hearing someone sings pretty important to me. This CD packed with the big JAZZ voices. It's awesome.

4 out of 5 stars To love again.......2007-01-11

The music is clear and exhilirating. The teamwork with other artists is well thought-out and professional.A very soothing collection of hits.

3 out of 5 stars Could have been better , teaming up with Anita Baker and Regina Belle........2006-06-12

I like this chap, soulful and smooth.
Lately he's kind of selling off, though.
Too much success may be harmful.
I am surprised that in this gathering he seems he has forgotten some of the true vocalists whom he was used to work with when he was pretty unknown....It happens all the time...
Call it ...ungratefulness !

4 out of 5 stars "Appearances ARE deceptive...".......2006-03-18

The front cover looks cheap and trashy. Actually, the whole booklet strikes one as excessively 'popular' in the sense of being uninformative and superficial. But please don't judge this CD by the cover! Of course it is smooth jazz. But it is truly smooth in the sense of being genuinely delicate, mellow and soothing. The record is easily accessible but not dull nor unimaginative. No categorizations like "pop" or "jazz" are required in this case. This is simply elegant, tender and relaxing music. However, Botti's previous effort "When I Fall In Love" was slightly better in my opinion. Anyway, four stars - recommended.

Stevie Wonder took more than ten years to give a studio successor to Conversation Peace but A Time to Love feels fresher than we had any right to expect after such a long wait. For starters, the guests are well picked: They include Bonnie Raitt (playing slide guitar on "Tell Your Heart I Love You"), gospel singer Kim Burrell (on "If Your Heart Cannot Be Moved"), India Arie (on the title track), and Wonder's own daughter, Aisha Morris (whom listeners may remember as the source of her dad's delight in Songs in the Key of Life--"Isn't She Lovely"). Last but not least, Prince plays elegant, minimal funky guitar and En Vogue perform swoony backup vocals on first single "So What the Fuss," a classic pared-down dance number graced with Wonder's trademark socially conscious lyrics. It's on tracks like these--sounding as if they could be from anytime between 1975 and now--that Wonder shows he's still got the golden touch. He remains a sterling melodicist ("Moon Blue" is a killer ballad), and the harmonica intro on "From the Bottom of My Heart" is among the loveliest he's created. Of course a Wonder album wouldn't be complete without saccharine ballads, and he delivers there too ("Passionate Raindrops," "Can't Imagine Love Without You"). Still, this is a solid effort from one of America's premier artists. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

5 out of 5 stars STEVIE WONDER IS THE MUSICAL GENIUS!.......2007-07-15

I HAVE LOVED STEVIE WONDER EVER SINCE I HEARD "SIR DUKE" AND "RIBBON IN THE SKY" AND "OVERJOYED" ON THE RADIO. I NOW HAVE ALMOST ALL OF HIS ALBUMS AND I STILL LISTEN TO THEM OFTEN. YOU WILL NEVER GET BORED LISTENING TO HIM. HE KNOWS HOW TO MAKE HIS MUSIC INTERESTING. HIS VOICE HAS CHANGED OVER THE YEARS AND I THINK HE WAITED TOO LONG TO MAKE ANOTHER ALBUM. THIS ALBUM DOES HAVE SOME GOOD MUSIC ON IT. I WOULD ALSO SUGGEST GETTING "SONGS IN THE KEY OF LIFE" THAT WAS A VERY FAMOUS ALBUM. ALSO TRY A LOT OF HIS OTHER ALBUMS. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. HE USUALLY HAS SO MANY HITS ON EACH ALBUM. IT HAS SO MUCH QUALITY. ITS ACTUALLY HARD TO FIND A SONG THAT YOU DON'T LIKE. HE HAS A REALLY NICE VOICE TOO. I SEE HIM ONCE A YEAR AT THE HOUSE OF TOYS EVENT AND HE IS FANTASTIC. HE CAN PLAY THE KEYBOARDS, THE HARMONICA, THE DRUMS, WRITE SONGS, WRITE MUSIC, AND PERFORM IT. HE HAS BEEN AROUND FOR A VERY LONG TIME. HE IS THE GREATEST IN MY OPINION. HE PUTS ME IN A GREAT MOOD ALL THE TIME. HE HAS STOLEN MY HEART WITH HIS MUSIC AND SINGING. HIS VOICE IS SOOTHING AND HE CAN HIT SOME NICE HIGH NOTES. HE SOUNDS GOOD NO MATTER WHAT NOTES HE HITS THOUGH. HE KNOWS HOW TO CHANGE HIS VOICE AND MAKE IT SOUND DIFFERENT IF HE WANTS TO. HE IS A VERY GOOD PERFORMER.

2 out of 5 stars Not Great Music.......2007-06-28

I am an avid Stevie Wonder fan, however this is NOT the Stevie Wonder of the '70s. I own Songs in the Key of Life, Innervisions, Talking Book, Journey Through The Secret Life Of Plants, and Little Stevie Wonder on '45s. (missed "For Once In My Life").
His voice is still as great as ever, however the songs on this album range from fair to abysmal.
Save your money and don't buy this one. Stick to classic Stevie!

5 out of 5 stars Future Classic Now By Stevie Wonder.......2007-06-27

I am new to appreciating Stevie Wonder and much of his great music. While I have always enjoyed Stevie Wonders hits on the radio - until now I never took the time to really delve into his albums - most of which are actually amazing (to say the least).

All I know is that I mixed a lot of the tracks from this latest album with my favorite tracks from several of his best albums (not so much of the ballads-but more of the other hit classics) and the newer tracks from Time 2 Love blends in perfectly with the best of Stevie Wonder of the past. In fact, it all sounds like it could be from the same period when it is heard altogether. Considering how late this album comes after his previous best, and how true it sounds to his classic sound by comparison, it's pretty remarkable.

I am amazed that people cannot be satisfied with such fully realized and solid longplayer from Stevie Wonder. While it's true the past can never be again - this album comes pretty damn close to what made Stevie Wonders past glories shine so bright. Give this one a chance, it will grow on you and you might even find yourself humming these tunes just as you did (or maybe still do) with the old Stevie classics.

5 out of 5 stars Pure shock and astonishment.......2007-03-23

I'm a very recent convert of Mr. Wonder's but I already own every album and have made up my mind about nearly every song. The year 1972 was my favorite Wonder year :) But I have to say I was very dissapointed that the production sound on everything after Hotter than July was very life-less and dated. He stuck with that overtly 80's sound through Conversation Piece. This ruined a lot of great songs he wrote in that time period and I was very reluctant to give this new album a shot. I'm so happy and relieved that not only is every song good but the production sounds better than ever. It's got the organic quality his 70's work had but still sounds very fresh. The musical genius managed to deliver 75 minutes of great music. In an age the art of album making has become all but forgotten Stevie has shown everyone how it's done. Too bad he can't do it every year like he used to.

4 out of 5 stars Another Classic.......2007-02-14

The problem with Stevie Wonder is that his best is so good, that like Lennon or McCartney, you can only compare his new releases to his previous output. While given the complexity, melody and beauty of this album are so far beyond other contemporary artists, it is still not Innervisions, Talking Book or FFF. Another point often overlooked is the production. Wonder's albums, even the ones from 30 years ago, sound great. Compare his 70's releases with anything out there from that era-remasters or not-and you will find that his albums sound better than anyone elses. Everyone knows and respects Stevie Wonders music but he is continually overlooked at award time. This should have been album of the year. Nothing else comes close musically

As formula-satisfying as most of his soft, soulful contemporary jazz is, Walter Beasley allows himself the luxury of branching out. On Ready for Love, the alto saxophone veteran goes on his first reggae outing, "She Moves Me," which with its synth trimmings won't sell any package trips to Jamaica, but still should appeal to his fans. Beasley also continues to find his comfort zone as a singer, channeling Curtis Mayfield via singer William DeVaughn and his 1974 hit, "Be Thankful for What You've Got." Beasley's cast of collaborators is large--eight producers are credited--but at this advanced stage in his career, people know what he wants and custom-deliver it to him. --Lloyd Sachs

4 out of 5 stars Are You Ready?.......2007-06-10

If you"re ready for love. Then You"re ready to give this album a listen."Ready For Love" is the second album of Mr Walter Beasley I"ve purchase the first being "For Her".Now I liked "For Her" but it didn"t turn me into a big fan of Walter Beasley. But this album does it"s smooth jazz at it"s best. And Walter Beasley on alto saxophone sounds wonderful. This is a good album for those who love smooth jazz.On the album Mr Beasley pays homage to the 70"s with great interpertations of Deniece Williams "Free" and William DeVaughn "Be Thankful".If you like sweet and mellow sounds check out the lovely "La Nina" and "Rhea"s Song".Walter Beasley turns vocalist on two songs on the album one of them being the sad and touching "Miss You".The song "Land Of The Sun" seems like a slight departure from the other songs on the album. With it"s sound effects and somewhat tropical feeling. All in all this is a very enjoyable album and I think one of Walter Beasley best efforts.Great music for relaxing times and romantic times.

5 out of 5 stars Spice it up with someone special and "Ready For Love" in the Background.......2007-05-02

Once again, Walter's smooth ballads will sweep you away. He has a way of putting just the right touch on a CD featuring Ole School and new Ballads.

If you like a smooth, sexy, graceful approach with wonderful Love Ballads, this CD is for You.

5 out of 5 stars A Significant Effort from a Pioneer Smooth Jazz Artist........2007-03-09

This is a significant effort from pioneer smooth jazz artist, Walter Beasley, that was not apparent from a first listen. But, after twice hearing his rousing renditions of Deniece Willliams', "Free" and William DeVaughn's, "Be Thankful for What You Got," it was apparent to me that this is one of the better smooth jazz releases for 2007. These renditions by Walter Beasley essentially re-invents these songs making them sound better than the already great originals. There are other compositions on this release that are also quite pleasant, and the recording quality of this disc is of reference quality. I would describe its sonic signature as clean, musical, and well balanced. The sound is the soulful side of smooth jazz, and it is quite good although you may have to skip around some of the songs on this CD. It certainly deserves to be in your collection if you like smooth jazz. However, please don't borrow it or burn (copy) it, but buy it, so we can keep these artists in business and encourage them to make more music. I say this because in all candor, I would rate this a 4.5 as this is not the best I've heard from Mr. Beasley. But, there is a distinct lack of new music from this genre, and new music will only come if we support these musicians.

5 out of 5 stars Enchanting.......2007-03-05

Excellence music on this CD, I would recommend it to all smooth jazz listeners. A must have for your collect.

4 out of 5 stars For lovers only !.......2007-01-23

Walter Beasley's latest album, "Ready For love". is the consummate title for a record filled with benevolent ballads of jazz that will perk up one's heart and put them in the mood for love.
"Free" opens with vocals from Tiffany Davis. The song then blends in Beasley's indisputable alto saxophone work along with drum work from Lil' John Roberts and Anthony Nelson Steele.
"La Nina" has Beasley echoing the genius of Kenny G on the alto saxophone, along with more intricate drum work from Roberts and Steele, buffeted by smooth percussion work from Ricardo Monzon.
"Be Thankful For What You've Got" has masterful keyboard work from Beasley, Steele, Dow Brain, Phil Davis, James Lloyd and Orville Wright. The title track has whimsy sounds accompanied by more keyboard work and the dulcet strains of Beasley on the sax.
To sum up, "Ready For Love", by Walter Beasley, is the perfect album to turn on when you want to get just the right affectionate response.(S.N.Kent)

I fell in love with "Don't Ask My Neighbor" as a teenager; "Flowers" followed; "The Keys to My Heart"; many followed. Uplifting without being sappy, suffused by gospel influences, unbelievable harmonies, the Emotions are a huge influence on soul and their songs leave a stamp that will forever move and warm the heart.

5 out of 5 stars The Emotions.......2006-08-29

Jeanette, Wanda, Sheila, and Pamela Hutchinson...Song Birds...Blessed by God...Unadulterated Harmony...Their songs mattered back in the day and today they still matter. Music that can take you away from everyday hustles and bustles - to a place that makes one long for the days when music had meaning: "Best of My Love, Flowers, Me For You, Don't Ask My Neighbor, Keys to My Heart, and Walking the Line"...all can make even the stoniest heart want to take a whack at love. I often play their songs and immediately my home fills with serenity...as if I am laying before a flickering fireplace on a winter storms day. I cannot say enough about these women (Wanda, Shelia, and Pamela/Jeanette) and their incredibly gifted voices. I highly recommend this and all other CDs of The Emotions, for all music lovers.

4 out of 5 stars Near-Perfect Collection of the Most Durable Female Group.......2006-03-29

My only complaint with this collection is that "WHAT DO THE LONELY DO AT XMAS" was not included! This is what a female group sounds like when they're not all sexed-up, hyped-up, with 3-ton egos getting in the way. The Emotions still perform to this day with the original line-up; no running off chasing solo superstardom. Maybe it was because they were family.
