***EPIC / MELODIC / SPEED / POWER METAL ALBUM WITH SYMPHONIC AND PROGRESSIVE ELEMENTS, ALL SUPPORTING A FANTASTIC EPIC TALE****
Customer Reviews:
To theatrical.......2007-05-02
Not what i was expecting. Melancholy Beast is one of the best metal albums i've ever heard from beginninng to end. Usually the the sophomore effort rarely lives up to the first, but this doesn't even come close to Melancholy Beast. The keyboards/percussions overpower the music. There are no great riffs and the music lacks attitude and crunch. I just didn't like the direction this album went too. i tried to give it a chance, needless to say its gone to my cd boneyard.
Some great music, with some cheese to make you cringe........2007-03-19
The songs have an epic feel to them. The vocalist fits the music perfectly with clear, melodic singing and belts out the vocals without holding back. The songs (especially the choruses) are catchy and slide more towards the keyboard and drums over guitars spectrum at times. I would classify this effort as a 3-4 on the 'heaviness' spectrum (out of 10). Except for a couple of problems I probably would have rated this a 4.5 (and given it a 4 on Amazon). The problems drag it down to a 3.5 for me (and thus will earn it a 3 here).
So what are these problems? They basically all have to do with the 'storytelling' aspects. To be succinct, I've had to delete more songs from this CD from my office play list than I have from any other CD, due to the 'cheese factor'. These storytelling aspects come in two flavors:
1. Narration - At least three 'songs' feature heavy narration. The first track is all narration, and two of the other songs feature it promininently. I didn't buy the CD to hear someone talk. While I can understand it in the first track, the other two times feel jarring and I much would have preferred the exposition to have been part of the song with Lance King's vocals rather than just spoken. Plus, the narration sounds like it's geared towards 'young adults'. Nothing wrong with that, but if it had been a book, I wouldn't have kept reading it.
2. 'The Child' - Track 3, "What lies beyond", is one of my favorite tracks on the CD, right up until the child starts talking. I'm unsure why they felt the need to put an actual child just talking in at this part, especially since Lance King had been singing both the role of the child and his protectors (making the song a bit confusing to follow at times) up until then. The real problem is, this presumed protector and savior of the world sounds like he's about to start bawling because he discovers that he's different than everyone else. I'm sure the boy is a wonderful kid, and did what he was asked to do, but if those words had to be spoken instead of sung (and I don't think they had to be), then the tone should have been more melancholy/introspective and less weepy. The problem of course, is that only the rare child can pull off the subtlety of melancholy as opposed to the directness of 'weepy'.
That's 4 of the 10 songs that I cringe at when I hear the elements mentioned above, especially when I have company. Heck, even friends who like Metal agree that the elements I've mentioned above just don't do it for them.
Let's be succinct here. I think they got too experimental here, or felt they were unable to tell the 'whole story' without the expositions mentioned above. If I want to 'hear' a fully realized story, I'll buy a book-CD. When I buy a Metal CD, I don't mind at all if it's a concept CD, but I want to hear good music. The story is secondary. If elements are not able to be explained and the group wants to be sure the readers get the whole story, they can add a page or two in the CD Liner or put up the information on the web site.
Because I found the music itself to be very good indeed, I'll be picking up "Melancholy Beast" sometime soon, but I found myself disappointed by this offering's discordant bits.
Actual Rating - 4.5 stars. ( They really need to consider a 1/2 star rating system! ).......2007-02-04
The second release by this Danish / American power metal band shows the band improving in both the song writing and the song structuring process. Fantastic guitar work woven in with keyboards ( w/ the guitars at the forefront ), a very capable rythm section, and yet another outstanding vocal performance from Lance King make this album a winner. The pieces of this band are really starting to come together on this album and it shows. Fans of melodic power metal, purchase immediately!
"HATE AGAINST EVIL AND ALL WHO SERVE IT".......2007-01-15
4.5 stars. My only complaint during this album is with the spoken-word sections awash with overblown atmospheric keyboards, "Era of Chaos" and "Blood Red Skies" which come off as a little cheesy upon first listen, but are later fogivable as they help tie the concept of the album together. Besides that, the music is intelligently crafted and the band shows some extremely talented interplay on every actual song. On the back of the CD layout reads an accurate summation: "****EPIC, MELODIC, POWER METAL WITH SYMPHONIC AND PROGRESSIVE TOUCHES, ALL SUPPORTING A FANTASTIC EPIC TALE****" Except they forgot to mention an excellent lead singer with upper register vocals and that the Progressive touches are what make the CD easy to return to often as it never gets boring. The ambitious songwriting demands that I give the album an extra half-star on the rating, as well. What sold me on my own purchase, however, was that I read another review here that mentioned Pyramaze being somewhat similar to another band called Lanfear, which I am completely enamored with at this time. Lanfear is another Progressive Power Metal incarnation worth checking out. I know Pyramaze has created a special album with "Legend of the Bone Carver" because my appreciation seems to be growing upon repeat spins of the CD. That is a definite sign that they have created something special. Thank you.
damn good power metal.......2006-08-18
If you like power metal mixed with the D&D lyrical world then Pyramaze is a band you really need to listen to. If you like really good guitar and a vocalist with an amazing voice then you need to listen to either this CD or their first, Meloncholy Beast (which I think is even better, and certainly doesn't have as much of the silly lyrics). When I first picked up the Meloncholy Beast I was hesistant because I didn't want to be hearing Helloween or some lightweight Euro-metal (Hey, sorry, it's just not my cup of tea), so I was really pleased at the crunch and melody of the music. Legends of the Bone Carver continues the same sonic territory - nothing new, but that's just fine with me. Buy it, you'll really enjoy it.

This is a terrific CD. You can easily believe you sitting with monks...it is that realistic.
Ancient Sound.......2004-08-16
This CD may not cause any pleasurable for average people because it's so mysterious sound.
However, if you are new age listener and have personal high
vibration consciousness, you will get deep understanding of this Tibetan strange sound.
Be aware of the voice from the hidden world.

Why would this say "explicit lyrics"? Although I don't own this, I'll give it 5 stars for curiosity's sake ... I'd like an explanation of "explicit lyrics" before I buy. anyone?
beyond conscious understanding & a "star-based" rating!.......1999-11-04
tibetan chordal/microtonal singing is an incredibly cosmic event one has to experience because it goes beyond mere description and ratings. the musical tones generated from deep within these maestros is mystical and quite healing on a cellular level, which is just one of the reasons creative and healing persons have been utilizing tibetan sounds for some time now. the sounds on this disc go directly to one's energy centers and penetrate the molecular core of one's etheric vehicle. there have been reports of astral travel using these sound meditations and the "vocals" intoned here are as powerful and transcendent as any i've heard in my large collection of tibetan music. highly recommended for healing, transcendence, acceptance and a deep experience of inner joy and peace.

Superb listening.......2002-03-18
I bought this CD a couple years ago,
I listen to the CD's when I'm stressed out and can't sleep.
Listening to the CD's puts me out right away.
(especially the Evening CD)
Relaxing, healing.......1999-10-05
Had been shopping at a mall in Sacramento and had aching feet and backache. Played this CD and backache disappeared. I called my friend into the store who had been resting because of aching foot and told her to listen to it. I didn't tell her what it had done for me. Her pain went away also That was in Fall of '97 and I still listen to it for relief of body tension and to relax.
Very relaxing music........1999-02-13
When I listen to this music, I become completely relaxed
This soothing music has a wonderful balancing effect........1999-01-13
The music washes over and through me, balancing and soothing any rough edges. The Morning CD is particularly wonderful for coping with the Los Angeles freeways. The Evening CD, with its deeper tones, completes the day and sends me to sleep relaxed and full.

This is the third official CD set to chronicle the Garcia Band's early '90s period and as such it fills in the gaps not covered by Jerry Garcia Band and How Sweet It Is. Focused more, it seems, on choosing songs not found on those previous two releases, it does not find Garcia in peak form all the way through. Still, there are many highlights across these 15 cover songs, such as the jaunty "Russian Lullaby" and the super soulful "Ain't No Bread in the Breadbox." Interestingly enough, 6 of the 10 songs Garcia first included on 1974's studio album Compliments appear here, in addition to late-period additions to the repertoire like the aforementioned "Breadbox," the Manhattans' 1980s soul hit "Shining Star," and Daniel Lanois's "The Maker." Garcia's voice may not have held up over the years, but you can't argue with the emotion he invests in these performances. Not an essential entry all in all, but a valuable complement to the other sets of similar vintage. --Marc Greilsamer
Customer Reviews:
Just not that good.......2006-02-23
Sorry but I just can't get into it even though I'm a big Jerry fan. I ordered it back when it was first released and listened to it a few times before putting it away. A year or so later I tried to get into it again - no luck. Most of the time I end up giving anything associated with Garcia 5 stars. Not this time. This is full of lack luster performances that never get off the ground. I really cannot even believe I'm giving it 3 stars. I just spot it 3 stars because you get to hear Jerry's guitar. And the cover art is almost insulting. It looks like some bad imitation of 60's art. I cannot believe Jerry would have been proud of this disaster. Buy something else from him.
Shining Star, Hidden Gem.......2005-09-25
Shining Star is a hidden gem. I recommend it to anyone who wants to see the real Jerry in action wih his band. The guitarists and background singers make the show a soulful jam session. This CD rocks!
I agree that this is pickin' over the leftovers..........2003-10-18
With all the JGB shows in circulation, THIS is the best they could come up with? It's a lame compilation with some great moments, but a lot of filler. Someone else mentioned that this is a case of people pickin' over Jerry's leftovers and, compared to something like "Don't Let Go," which was phenomenal, I have to agree. Don't waste your money on this...
Pls. buy this wonderful cd!.......2003-08-16
I've followed the Dead and Jerry since '68. I'm writing this review because I see that others have, well, trashed this cd. NO! This is Jerry again celestial. As the banner over the Avalon read in '68: They're not the best at what they do; nobody does what they do!. Still true and still true of the Jerry Garcia Band. BUY this cd. Wait till you hear how Jerry and the band take the Stones' Lets Spend the Night Together and make it into a so-sweet love ballad! Price of admission is worth it right there!
burning in the eyes of the Maker.......2003-03-21
I like this CD, but `The Maker' is beyond phenomenal. It's one of the best recordings I've heard of Jerry. I'd equate with Visions of Johanna on Phil Zone, Morning Dew on Europe '72, or some of the songs in the live Warfield Garcia-Grissman '91 - '92 shows. For `The Maker' alone, it's an absolute must have. But overall I like the whole thing.

HECK YA!!!.......2007-04-04
recently got the Shining Star CD and felt I should leave my thoughts on it for all of you .
First off I must say I am very impressed. The songs have a very large amount of emotion behind them and are still very catchy. The guitar's are abit different than most bands in the progressive metal genera . However that's not exactly bad, they still had some of the technical side of things. But had a wonderful groove and feel to them. That I was impressed .
The keyboards totally brought things together. I'd love to work with the gentlemen that does them(sorry I cannot remember his name)
When it comes to vocals ,I feel it's some of Lance King's best vocal work to date. With so much power and passion behind it. I wish many of the vocalists out there would take note of this and remember it when they go to sing.
The only tiny issue I had is one or two song's some of the effects on it were abit strong for my taste. But I tottally love it. Iv not take this disk out of my player since I got it around a week ago. I highly recommend you all get it if you haven't yet.
Superb Muscianship and Lance King Vocals.......2007-03-09
This second album from Shining Star--much better than their first one, which could hardly be called "metal"--rocks with a quality melodic metal/borderline power metal sound. Lance King's vocals are, as always, in top form. The production qualities of this album excel and, while most of the songs are straight-up metal, the commercial/harmonic (though still pretty hard) appeal of the song "Never Too Late" bears all the marks of a bona fide hit--were we in the late 1980s. Now, since the mid- to late-80s was the era of greatest metal glory, I find that Shining Star song--and indeed, this entire disc--to be a wonderful reviving of the classic metal sound. Rather than sounding dated, however, Shining Star has delivered a contemporary rendition of the classic metal sound and that makes this a CD very worthy of purchase. Positive, sensible lyrics preside also, making it a must for the level-headed headbanger.
Melodic and Powerful!! Love it all!!.......2007-01-21
I love all of Lance King's works that I own to date. Anything with his name on it... has got to be absolutely awesome. No disappointments with anything on this CD. Many people who hear it whilst I am driving somewhere or visiting me, say they really like it and ask about it. Every song is put together well, as is anything that Lance has been involved in. It's Melodic and Powerful. You can really pick up the feeling of each song. Lances voice soars, but that's no surprise!! The lyrics are written very well! It totally rocks! I like it when I can kick back and envision in my own mind what the songs play out in my head and this CD is one of them. I am so very glad that this CD was brought to life! There is a good message within... life is an eternity of troubled minds and troubled times. We Fight the evils!! Always try to find a way out or never give up. Seems like the theme is woven here and there throughout the CD. Once you hear Lance, you'll be looking to find anything with his name on it!
Great melodic metal album!.......2007-01-20
Enter Eternity, the second album by Brazilian band Shining Star, features outstanding guitar work from Fabio Rocha and phenomenal vocals from the incredibly gifted singer Lance King. My favorite tracks are "Insomnia" and the beautiful ballad "Never Too Late," both of which I can put on repeat for ages, they're that good! Other standout tracks are "Nightmare" and "Insanity." The whole album is well worth a listen and highly recommended for fans of hard rock and melodic metal!
Melodic rock is back!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-10-29
Shining Star answers the question is 80's metal gone for good.Answer, NOT EVEN CLOSE. This disc is far from dated sounding yet brings the spirit of the great 80's metal back. It has the edge of bands like Savatage and the melody of TNT. Lance King, vocalist of Pyramaze, Avian, and ex- Balance Of Power demonstrates great melody and power on this debut. The songwriting is what melodic fans want and what Prog and Power metal fans will enjoy as well.........

Album Description
The passionate and romantic music of ARRIBA effortlessly carries you away into a distant land vibrant with the spirit of flamenco. Heart-stirring and evocative guitar, melodious saxaphone and a tasteful array of exotic percussion all combine beautifully to create a highly listenable album by one of the foremost instrumental guitarists.
Customer Reviews:
Awesome Music!.......2004-05-12
I bought the cassette in '93 when it first came out in a display that gives you little clips of song. The first clip sold me. Now that I've gotten a car with CD, Arriba was one of my first purchases. There's not a song I don't like, most are bouncy and make you want to bounce right with them. My taste ranges from classical to hard rock and new age but Arriba is one CD I'll always have in my collection. I've purchased it for several friends with various musical tastes and all really like it, too.
Absolutely Beautiful!.......2000-10-04
Every time I listen to this music it makes me get up and dance! Or at least bob my head in an appreciative fashion. Although I don't have a lot of experience or authority about what's hot and what's not in Latin music, I have to stress that this album really caught my attention. The guitar work by Bruce BecVar is just amazing! Nearly all the songs are written in the same key, so it's hard to tell where one stops and the next begins, which makes for wonderfully smooth transitionswhile at the same time offering excellent variation. If you want something lively to groove to while you bake cookies, or just something spirited to listen to in front of a fireplace, this album is a must-have!

Cool Coverage.......2006-01-29
Jump5 is leaving Sparrow Records Company so they released one more Jump5 album before the group went on to other things. The topic for this compilation album is coverage of popular songs already done. I think it was a real neat idea to put all those songs on to one disk so you don't have to go out and find all the different albums, soundtracks etc. that Jump5's cover songs are on. I particulaly like the song "freeze frame". This is proabaly the least known Jump5 song because it's only found on the soundtrack of a non-disney movie (Sleepover). It's one of my favorites. The album opens with the ever-popular and high-energy fun of "We Are Family". I appreciated that they acknowleged the Christian coverage as well with the song "Friends" by Michael W. Smith. This album is great if you are a Jump5 fan, a rememberer of these songs, or just looking for fun danceable music. The only thing is that Jump5 didn't acknowledge the less popular songs that they covered such as "Do Ya", "Way of the World", "Angel in My Heart" and "Throw Your Hands Up." Those are covered songs too. I've heard people say that Jump5 shouldn't have put "Wonderful Christmastime" on the end of the album but I think it works. Of course Jump5's other Christmas songs are already done ones but "Wonderful Christmastime" is an "oldies" Christmas song, not just a traditional one. Anyway, all in all it's a good, clean, and fun album. I recommend it.

THIS IS A ROCK THIS CHRISTMAS REVIEW!!!!.......2005-12-22
Since Shining Star and Rock this Christmas were released on the same day (except that Rock this Christmas is not sold in stores, thus not being on amazon, but sold online at the fan club and shipped) this is a review to honor Rock This Christmas at the Shining Star area. Now..
THIS IS J5'S BEST CHRISTMAS CD!! It's a little slower than the previous, but I don't care! THIS IS THE FIRST ONE WHERE THEY'VE WRITTEN ALMOST ALL THE SONGS! (Which finally means some "origianl" Jump5 Christmas songs at last.)
1. Rock This Christmas 10/10 WOW!! They sound really awesome in this. I love how they each sing a small part at the end while Lesley and Brittany blast the chorus in the background! Possibly the best song on here!
2. If The Snow Doesn't Fall 10/10 Nice slow beat, but really meaningful. I saw them preform this and it was showing pictures of soldiers celebrating Christmas over in Iraq without their families. Sad!
3. Christmas Like This 10/10 BRING IN THE ELECTRIC GUTAIRS!!! This is a funky song about having Christmas at the beach! I love the lyrics! A keeper!
4. Merry Merry Christmas 10/10 Nice jingly Christmasy feeling on it! Great slow song. Nice addition!
5. Silent Night 10/10 A classic Christmas song! Jump5 did a perfect slow job with this! I love it!
6. This Christmas Day 10/10 wow. wow. wow. and wow. This is pulled off brilliantly! It's really sad! It'll make you not take everything like family and home for granted!
7. Hark The Harold Angels Sing 10/10 Awesome remake! I love How Brittany and Chris pull some of the parts off! Perfect!
8. He Is Born 10/10 An upbeat pop/rock song about emabracing the true meaning of Christmas---JESUS!
9. We Wish You A Merry Christmas 10/10 Things slow wayyyy down, but the still keep that holiday jingle fresh and going!
10. Amazing Grace 10/10 Awesome song! This is all acapella, no music, just J5 singing!
11. ------- 0/0 Skip this and get to the bonus track!
12. Nothing Like You 10/10 HIDDEN WONDER! This is tied with Rock This Christmas as the best song! It's really boppy and dancy! A great finisher!
That's my review! Shining Star is awesome, but for people who want to buy Rock This Christmas, go to jump5.com, click Fan Club, click Store, click Audio, and then buy Rock This Christmas!!

Cinematic, epic, dark prog.......2005-05-31
After nearly four long years, Beyond Twilight has emerged with a new album. Their previous disc The Devil's Hall of Fame with Jorn Lande on vocals was a stunning record, so it caused quite some stress when it was announced that Lande had left and was replaced by a new singer: American vocalist Kelly Sundown Carpenter from the band Outworld. If you were a fan of Lande's vocals in Beyond Twilight, worry not, Carpenter is an absolutely perfect fit for the position. The tone of his voice and his phrasing are highly similar to Lande's, which is great. There are moments on the album, unless you look in the CD booklet, you wouldn't know it's not Jorn Lande singing. Carpenter does an excellent job; he sings passionately and will easily convince everyone that he is the perfect choice.
Finn Zierler, the man behind Beyond Twilight, is still responsible for most of the songwriting on this disc, which is darker than ever, more progressive and more cinematic. Seemingly written locked in a dark attic, the dirty streets of London and near a cold lake, Section X is the continuation of Beyond Twilight's debut concept, and it kicks off with a very similar theme. There is also an informative and quite interesting storyline printed in the booklet. Even though I can't say I'm too impressed by the concept, neither was I by the one in the previous album. It's more Zierler's unique understanding of composition and creating thick, layered soundscapes that draw me to the sound and style of Beyond Twilight. Once again the production on this album is huge, thanks to Zierler's cooperation with Tommy Hansen during the mixing stages. This album is more of progressive tinged disc with sweeping arrangements and numerous emotional twists. Jacob Hansen's addition to the fold also serves this purpose, and his presence is easily noticeable. Give a close listen to the way the guitars slowly soar above Zierler's piano on "Sleeping Beauty" and how they fade into infinity as if the wind carries them away. This song also features guest vocalist Truls Haugen whose clean singing exchanges spots with Carpenter's more aggressive style. The big chorus filled with Latin lyrics is a reference to the first Beyond Twilight album, except that the female choir singing it is a lot more effective this time around.
New vocalist Kelly Sundown Carpenter takes on many different roles through the album. From the most haunting melody lines pulled out of the depths of hell that permeat "The Path of Darkness", the gruff and enraged singing on "Shadow Self", the cold spoken passages on "The Dark Side", or even the more multi-octave hitting screams on the 9-minute closing title track, Carpenter makes this album as amazing as the highly acclaimed debut, and certainly proves to be a fantastic addition to prog metal singers. Once the debut Outworld disc sees the light of day, it will be a headturner, mark my words.
There is a mindblowing instrumental track titled "Portrait F in Dark Waters", a classical intermezzo that starts out lush and laid-back, but quickly picks up and ventures into a dark musical territory displaying Zierler's ethereal piano and keyboard work merged with a great sense of orchestration - you must hear it, as I consider the composition presented here much better crafted than the instrumental pieces on the debut album. Zierler's tone is distinctive in all the songs, as he implements various progressive elements in the songs backed up by powerful twin guitars and a solid rhythm section. Best exemplified on the title track, each instrument weaves its way through the music delicately, laying down subtle odd time signatures without letting go of the dark atmosphere this album is intended to possess. Note the way the keyboards subtly morph into an Egyptian-themed arpeggiated guitar melody during the breakdown that ultimately leads to the dramatic finale. It might strike you speechless.
Beyond Twilight is back! Let's hope we won't have to wait another four years for their third album. But then if that's what it takes to create epic and soulful music like this, that's cool with me. Both Beyond Twilight albums are essential for dark prog metal fans.

Album Description
Jiva Mukti is a lush soundscape of mystical chants and mantras of India and Tibet performed by vocalist/sound healer Nada Shakti and celebrated musician/composer Bruce BecVar. The sonic power of ancient Sanskrit along with Shakti's gorgeous, compelling vocals band BecVar's soothing mkelodies and exotic instrumentation-Shakti Harp, guitar, keyboards, bells, dumbek and tabla-combine brilliantly in ten sacred songs praising the Oneness of life.
Customer Reviews:
The real thing.......2002-11-13
I just bought "Jiva Mukti" at the Freer Gallery of Art in Washington DC (which has amazing collections of Eastern art) and it is a wonderful listening experience. Nada Shakti's voice is ethereal yet earthy--"eartherial"--and Bruce BecVar's instrumentation perfectly matches it. Sincere and soul-touching, this music along with some incense in a shadowy quiet room can be healing. This is the real thing.
"Mesmerizing".......2000-10-31
Vibrant, hypnotic & melodic chants which will be familiar to Buddhists and devotees of Indian and Tibetan music everywhere. If you played this CD once or twice daily for a year or two you still wouldn't tire of it!
