About the Artist
Zakiyah currently tours the club circuit in the mid-Atlantic states.Though born and raised in Virginia, she currently makes her home in Greensboro, NC. Eclecticizm is her secon album on Flat Five; her previous CD, Au Naturel, released in 1997, charted well on CMJ-reporting stations nationwide that year, logging over 4000 airplays for the song "Purple Dayzeez" alone that year.

Hello, I am Heidi from Darmstadt, Germany and I am connecting from Zakiyah's web-site! I travel internationally very often and heard her first CD in 1997 while skiing in Switzerland on holiday! It is such a fun music. In Europe we hear a variety of music and Zakiyah's definately sticks out as a special one. One you cannot ignore. I like her voice, very soothing and inviting. I purchased "AuNaturel" on the web and have since been following her. "AuNaturel" "Yellow Sunglasses", "Forever Friend", "Beautiful Man" - oh so gentle- and finally "Purple Dayzeez" are my particular favorites from that CD. I am excited to say that on my way through London-Gatwick on Saturday I heard that sweet, velvety voice singing a song I had not yet heard, so I rushed to my laptop when I arrived in New York at the hotel to find out what it was and heard it on the radio, same song! I am lucky! I found her web-site and purchased 10 copies for myself and my friends through her record label immediately and got them by Tuesday at the hotel. Then as I was searching the site, I found that I could commend it here so...here i am. Zakiyah is indeed a treasure, refreshing and interesting and has a lot of soul. Reminds me of Sade with a bit of Aretha on some songs and of a new aged Tina Turner and yes I agree Chaka as well. She covers vast musical ground and her success in most definate here as well in the UK. I hope she tours Europe soon so that we may get a real taste of Her Highness! So so talented.

I have had this CD for 5 months and I cannot stop listening to to it. ZAKIYAH ROCKS! ZAKIYAH GROOVES! ZAKIYAH LOVES! ZAKIYAH GOT A GREAT VOICE! I have not tired of a single song on Zakiyah's "Eclecticizm". When I am traveling (which I do a lot) she is company. From the first track "A Trip" she gets me going. That bass line is soo groovey. Demands a dance. Any dance will do. "Put my foot on the gas, gonna take a trip with my very last dime. Just need a little bit of peace of mind and I gotta go get it." Ya gotta dig this people! Musically, her band is tight and exact, delivering a powerful groove upon which she stands. Perfect combination. Track #3 "Stop What You Started". Vocally soothing and passionaltely delivered. Why have the record execs not picked her up! "Hey Warner Brothers, RCA, BMG, EMI! Ya need to get it together and sign Zakiyah so that she can be rightfully introduced to her anxiously awaiting public! " We want some real music with a real voice.

Thanks Zakiyah for your gift of music and for sharing it with us music lovers. God speed Girlfriend! Much respect! I agree "All Hail Zakiyah the Queen"!
