While the industry might be holding its collective breath waiting for the release of the next D'Angelo CD (current ETA: mid-March 2003), some of us have gotten on with our lives. Of course the reason we fiend for Mr. D is because he doesn't sound like your run-of-the-mill soul smoothie, and flashes of uniqueness are what keeps R&B fans from slitting their throats in frustration over the current ho-hum state of affairs. Enter singer-songwriter Donell Jones, whose second effort asks the question "What makes a hit?" The answer is his single "U Know What's Up": hooks upon hooks, a catchy melody, and a sexy but low-key vibe, put together in a way that's more than just retro-trendy. The rest of the Where I Wanna Be is classy and idiosyncratic without being too artsy--a perfect buy if you need a break from all the preening and smoke blowing that's all too common. --Amy Linden

Classic.......2007-04-12
What can I say, this is my second purchase of this cd. In this day and age of having one hit on a cd. This cd is full of hits! From start to finish, you can relax and flow through the entire album. Recommended highly.
Just Amazing.......2007-03-31
Greetings,
This is a classic, one that you will feel compelled to pull out over and over. Donnell does a fantastic job of telling us what he wants to bring to the world of music. Every song on this cd is meant for you to listen to. If you are hesitant, it is probably because you have not heard much from him in quite a while. This was his first cd, and he was hungry ready to prove to the world that he was Donell Jones.
Buy it, you'll be pleased.
Baddest R&B Brutha since .................................2006-06-07
Smooth as Butta, ever album since my heart has been fabulous and after hearing him on SOul Train performing his latest two from the forthcoming "Soul Of A Gemini"? cd which were both off the chain I can't wait until 6/20/06. Might even be his B-Day.
A must have for every R&B listener.......2006-05-15
After a very good debut ("My Heart", 1996) Donell Jones has released one of the best R&B albums of the late '90..."Where I Wanna Be". With these disks, and his prestigious collaborations how songwriter and producer (702, Guru's Jazzmatazz, etc.) this artist has truly written many meaningful pages of the modern R&B history. In a particular way, his '99 album it's a gem that you can still listen with pleasure, without feel the time flow.
Great voice and musical arrangements, and a memorable collaboration with the deeply missed Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes. Definitely a must have for every R&B listener.
Superb.......2006-02-27
This album is brilliant. Its an album that you can put on and listen to every song without having to press skip. Includes some classics such as U Know whats up, Shorty, Where i wanna be and All her luv. Shame that Donell Jones doesn't get the recognition his albums deserve because in my opinion he is better than Usher. Lets hope that Journey of a Gemini is as good as his last 3 albums.

Amazon.com's Best of 2001
The Producers was the vehicle that first proclaimed Mel Brooks's decidedly singular comic vision as a film director in 1968. At the time, the world may not have been entirely ready for the depth charges of hilarity he unleashed; but more than three decades later, it seemed almost foreordained that the film's retooling as a full-fledged musical--directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman--would become the smash hit of the 2000-2001 Broadway season (even before opening at the St. James Theatre in April). Brooks is, of course, no stranger to the Broadway musical genre or to songwriting, but skeptics might find themselves taken by surprise at just how outrageously well all the threads come together for the new show.
The film's absurd core vignette--the infamous "Springtime for Hitler"--if anything gains a few notches in hilarity when framed by a character-rich musical that comes off as both parody and valentine in its mimicry of Broadway's "golden age." Brooks (with the help of idiomatically expert arrangements by Glen Kelly) has cooked up a variety of numbers constituting a virtual primer of old-fashioned American musical comedy styles (there's even a toying with Cabaret-style decadence), but they're always coated with an extra layer of zaniness. In fact, the whole show becomes a Chinese box of parodies within parodies. But what really gets the whole mix working is a surefire cast headed by Nathan Lane playing Max Bialystock and Matthew Broderick doing a delightfully nebbish turn with delusions of misplaced glory as his sidekick, Leo Bloom.
From his first big number (musically winking at Fiddler on the Roof), Lane hungrily lays claim to the role, undaunted by his formidable predecessor, Zero Mostel. Even on disc, you can visualize his over-the-top mugging as a dethroned "king of Broadway" who was "the first producer ever to do summer stock in the winter." Comedy, as they say, is all about timing, and that's exactly what Lane gets right. His interactions with Bloom, Franz Liebkind (Brad Oscar), and Roger de Bris (Gary Beach) are priceless, even when only in sound. As for the tunes, Brooks crafts a number of truly memorable ones--don't be surprised to find yourself horrified as you hum along with "Der Guten Tag Hop-Clop" and, of course, "Springtime for Hitler." --Thomas May
Customer Reviews:
Just what I wanted.......2006-11-06
I saw the making of the CD on TV. The cast does a great job. I have the CD in my car stereo and listen to it often.
I Want to be a producer.......2006-03-06
This recording is great! I saw the play in november and loved the music. I bought the CD a little later and i am still listing to it. The cast are all great singers and did a great job. The songs are witty and catchy and never get old. You should listin to this.(Warning:See the movie or the play before you listin to this, you might hate it if you've have not.)
Spring Time for "The Producers".......2005-12-13
While I'll abmit that Nazi regemes and Hitler are probably some of the least funny thing in the world...i have to admit that the words to Springtime for Hitler are hilarious, just like the rest of the songs on this cast recording.
While "The Producers" Is not as musically complex or mature as other "Best Musical" scores of recent years (Spamalot, Avenue Q, Hairspray,) It is funnier than all of those put together. Nathan lane And Matthew Broderick Are perfectly cast in their roles and Caddy Hoffman is great, and when Ulla belt, she Belts!
the rest of the cast is amazing.
As for the song I can't think of one that I don't like, They are all great!
I would hope that the fact that the show makes light of Hitler doesn't turn you off, because you would be missing somthing great.
Mel Brooks = Brilliant.......2005-12-12
My theatre group went to New York two years ago, adn we did a marathon 4 shows in 3 days. Each show got progressively better, finally culminating in seeing Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick's final performance of "The Producers." I have been a fan of Brooks' since I saw "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" 5 years ago. Naturally, I was beyond excited to see the show he made of his most brilliant film.
I was not disappointed. It was funny, racy, and downright fabulous. I bought the soundtrack at intermission and have been listening to it ever since. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves musicals. Lane and Broderick play off each other perfectly, Cady Huffman has one of the best belting voices I've heard in ages, and the songs are actually FUNNY.
Aside from raving about one of my favorite shows, I would like to address the comments made about the show downplaying Hitler and being racist towards Germans. In no way does this show downplay Hitler's terrible deeds. Bialystock and Bloom make several comments about how disgusted they are about the play- the fact that it is so insulting to our sensibilities is the reason why it was chosen in the first place. I am Jewish and have studied the Holocaust and WWII for years. I was not offended in the least, nor did I feel the Brooks was promoting or trivializing Hitler's war crimes. Brooks himself is Jewish for god's sake.
Second, I see nothing in the show that is racist towards Germans. Yes there is a Nazi in it who is German. How is that racist? The Nazis went all over the world after WWII- it is possible that several ended up in New York City. And no one will argue that some Nazi's were German. You might as well say that the show is discriminatory towards Swedes, or gay directors, or producers, or the countless number of things made fun of in the show.
it won 11 (if im correct) TONY awards for a reason!.......2005-12-08
This is by far the funniest thing I have ever seen. I got the chance to see it on broadway with Lane (unfortunatly not Broderick) and most of the original cast. For some reason, certain people seem to think this play is racist. First off, the whole thing is pure 100% SATIRE. I'm 15 and I can realize that. Also, are you aware that Mel Brooks is jewish? Yeah, so lighten up. I realize what Hitler did, and it will never be forgotten. But my God, get a sense of humor. In case you never saw the play, the Bavarian guy breaks his leg (making "It's bad luck to say good luck on opening night funny) and is replaced by the gay director for the song "Springtime for Hitler". ITS HILARIOUS! BROOKS MADE HITLER A GAY GUY! And why do you think he did that? Geeze... just lighten up!
So about the CD...awesome. I love these songs, and I am very much looking forward to seeing the movie version of the musical coming out in late December! GO SEE IT!

Customer Reviews:
Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.
TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23
THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.
Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14
This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway
Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17
If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

I've been waiting for this CD for years and it's finally here. Where else can you find a collection of Kalmar and Ruby songs? If you love the movie, you'll love the soundtrack. As with all Rhino soundtracks, both the audio, art work, and liner notes quality is great. Buy it before all 2500 copies are taken...
beautiful old time music.......2004-07-13
there are so many great songs sung by beautiful women-Gale robbins singing I love you so much, Arleen doll on All alone Monday, but the best is the enchanting unforgettable Thinking of you, sung by Vera Ellen, the best dancing lady ever on the screen. Sad we cant see Miss Ellen dance to the song but the wonderful scene will live in your memory. A very nice record,Also Miss Debby Reynolds does a very nice imitation of Hellen Kane on I wanna be loved by yo.

Customer Reviews:
The Channelsurfers complete another great album!.......2000-06-30
Wow! The Channelsurfers have the faith and the talent to really suceed in the Christian music area. I have never heard such raw surf-core since their last album, and none before that! When their sophomore project came out, I wondered if it would be the same like their first album with the new singer and all. When I saw them in concert a year ago, I wondered where the old singer was. When I heard the new singer, I instantly thought that the Chanelsurfers were better! Although their first CD had better music, this is a very awesome CD. Say good-bye Beach Boys, because surf-core is the new thing in town!
good stuff!.......2000-04-23
Good stuff, boys and girls! Aaron Scantlen is the new singer, and though he don't sound much like the old singer, he does a real good job! The Rage Against The Machine-isms are for the most part gone, and the result is a very good sounding modern funk...Just like with Tunnel Vision, i'm amazed at how such an obscure band (relatively speaking) can sound so good! the production on the guitars is awesome, and the bass and drums sound good as well...Most of the songs here DO center around Christ and salvation, with the exception of a few..overall, it's just really good stuff, with good Christian words (and a really funny metal parody!)...."Wherever God is that's where i wanna be!"....excellent tunage, yo! buy it!
These guys are good!.......2000-04-12
If you follow the PGA you are familiar with this statement "These guys are good!". That's how I feel about the Channel Surfers and both of their CD's. Their newest cd entitlted "Where I Want To Be" is addicting. I can't stop listening to the driving sounds of these musicians. It's obvious they are very talented. I plan to buy each cd they produce. I hope the next one comes out soon!
Not like their last album at all..........2000-03-21
The Channelsurfer's last album was soooo awesome... crunchy guitars and plenty of funk. The lead vocalist did such a great job. I don't know what the deal is with this new one, but he tends to whine too much. The actual musicianship is quite good, but I bought it expecting more of the same. Sorry folks... you may like the new vocalist, but he's too wimpy for me. Take a listen first if you are used to the old surfers.
Up beat, fun listning!.......1999-12-31
The Channelsurfers are a mix of hip/hop-funk, with some hard/rock. A very fun band, with some really good christain songs. I gave it four stars because there are alot of songs that don't have anything to do with christ. But it is one of my favorites! God bless! >

High powered inspiration!.......2006-09-23
v*enna has broken up to pursue other callings, but this little collection of songs is a breath of fresh air. High powered vocals and beautiful intonation give sharing God's word an ABBA type feel. Great stuff!
Can't wait to get it!.......2005-03-13
I haven't bought this CD (Cuz I don't have any money at the moment) but I will. I don't like much pop music (Like Jump5 or Auroua) but this is good and I can't wait to get it. unlike Jump5, it isn't cheesy and isn't double-meaning. My fave song is "Best Friends" oh, and guess what these girls can actually sing! Whoo-hoo! I usually pick music with a more mature style but this isn't THAT kidish and I do like it.
But if you aren't into pop music, it may not be your thing, unless-like me- you have an open mind to whatever the Lord creates for His glory. Even if you aren't a Christian-don't be pushed away by the fact they talk about God. If you like pop music, you may enjoy it. Sorry to hear they broke up.

Good.......2005-02-03
Coming from someone who listens to everything from The Cranberries to Project 86, "catchy pop" isn't something I normally listen to. However, this duo caught my attention because they can sing with vocals that don't sound like they've got bubble gum lodged in their throats. Oh, and did I mention I bought the album for $1.00? I find this album best when I need something to get me moving in the morning, or to relax to when going to bed at night. It isn't good for mournful or reflective moments, but that's why I've got all the other genres lined up on the buffet table. Keeping an open mind never hurt anyone.
5 stars forever!.......2004-05-05
even after 4 years i still give this album, which was my favorite in 2000, 5 stars, two thumbs way up, and all that jazz -- and that's coming from someone who doesn't like 99% of christian music and is into everything except country...
there will always be a few people that can't get past the label "christian" ... the only song even remotely cheesy IMO is Make That Noize, which, is far from the worst track i've heard on my favorite CDs. but for the rest of you who enjoy music, this one's for you!
if you're into pure eurodance, this album's for you. it's such a mixture of groups yet fresh at the same time it's hard to nail down who they sound like. let's get the britney correlation out of the way. this album makes you want to get up and dance like her first album, but that's about it. it's reminded me of groups like e-type, "cruel summer" and "the bridge"-era ace of base, maybe some no angels. it's very fun, light, upbeat and, did i mention fun?
it's a pity they broke up when lucy got married. also, they're OOP and getting harder to find. i suggest you grab this now! oh, and if ANYONE has any of their singles, let me know! i'm desperate...
Pretty good.......2004-03-17
If you like the new group of girls called Shine, then you'll probably like V*Enna. They're styles and voices sound VERY much alike. If you want to see my opinion on the songs...
"Where I Wanna Be": This is a REALLY fun, good song. It's really fun to dance to. I like the intro a lot. It's one of my favorites on the CD.
"Make That Noize": I really do like this song. It's fun to dance to and fun to sing. It must have been awesome when it was live. Another favorite.
"Do You Wanna Know": I like this song a lot. Sharnessa sounded relly good when she starts the bridge. It's another favorite. It reminds me a lot of "Do You Believe In Love?" by Shine.
"Sometimes": This is a pretty song. It's pretty good, but not a favorite.
"Why Did I Let You Go?": I really like this song. It used to be a favorite, but it's something I don't listen to a lot anymore.
"Sunshine and Rain": I LOVE this song. I kind of like the older version better on their first CD (On All The Way To Heaven: The Maxi-Single). Another favorite.
Best Friends: This song is pretty cool. I used to listen to it all the time, but not really Anymore.
"Hold On": Of course, who doesn't like this song? I LOVE this song. It's very sweet. Another favorite.
"Don't Stop": I like this song. It's fun to sing. I really like the way Sharnessa sounds on the first verse.
"All The Way To Heaven": This is probably their signature song. I like it a lot. It's a little hard to compare with the first version (Also on the maxi-single). Another favorite.
"Don't Get Left Behind": This REALLY is a favorite. I love the message in it. It's very pretty. It's kind of like a love song.
Anyway, I'd recomend to anybody who likes Shine. If you're a huge fan of someone like the Newsboys or Rebecca St. James (Like I am), you probably woulden't like them to much.

One of the greatest CD's..........2001-11-27
I have to say that this is my all time favorite CD. I can't say enogh about this band, there awesome, great tunes, good beats, and it's all set just a little off the norm to create a great original sound. There national resease, Red Clay Harvest, has most of these songs but this recording surpasses it by far.
Outstanding Band.......1999-11-05
I have the orginal release of this album...if they didn't do anything drastic to the rerelease it should be great. If you like Freddie Jones Band, Sister Hazel, etc... you'll love Cravin' Better yet see them live!

WHERE I WANNA BE.......2005-11-18
VARIOUS
DAMIZZA PRESENTS
WHERE I WANNA BE
1.INTRO
2.WHERE I WANNA BE-the instant classic first single for the album, this track blew up the year it came out, straight summer tyme anthem. The fun bouncy energetic beat by KAY GEE & DAMIZZA is one of the best over all produced tracks to hit the rap game. And SHADE SHEIST opens things up nicely with a great verse, his distinct voice and flow fit the beat perfectly. Also u know it's hit when NATE DOGG spit, and it seems every song he does a hook for it blows up, and he also drops a nice verse. KURUPT ends things nicely with a final verse from the kingpin. 5/5
3.BLING DIAMANTE [INTERLUDE]
4.IS IT ME- the first thing we hear on this track is a nice smooth from beat Damizza and HOWIE HARSH, nice to chill 2. then we hear singer DAMON SHARPE dropping the hook, it's ok. But then KRAYZIE BONE drops a nice verse about these gold diggers out here. Next Sharpe drops a verse that to me is good, but not the greatest mind blowing singer out. Don't get me wrong dude can sing, definitely better then me, but he wouldn't be my first choice. Over all a solid track thow.3.5/5
5.IF YOU WERE MINE-Damizza drops another smooth beat for our listing pleasure, it's real addicting, people will definitely be bobbing their heads. Shade drops some more smooth vocals over this nice track, a nice track for the ladies. Also TATUM TOTS vocals glide over this beat with ease.4/5
6.HAVE A NICE DAY-Damizza opens things up with a short lil verse, nothing special. Then we hear CAZ all over the track with a high energized hook and nice verse. Then Shade appears again with a nice ass verse, the thing is each verse is to short leaving the song to come in at 2:10. also the beat from Damizza isn't up to par with the others, it's ok I guess but I can't really get into it.3/5
7.LIFE AIN'T A GAME-Damizza drops a nice beat to make up for the last, in fact I'am feeling the beat more then JA RULE. Not to say he doesn't hold it down though, in fact I like his verses. The way he spits to fit the beat is nice, and the hook is cool. A lot of people don't like Ja but any one who smashes EMINEM, is cool with Fatal Hussien or Hussien Fatal {depending on how u want to say it}, Tha Row, and Rap-A-Lot is all right with me. Over all good track, and addition to the album.4/5
8.LET ME DO MY THANG-Sharpe makes up for his last track with this one, I love how he kicks it on this track, in fact this could have been a single. The hook is great, and the way he lays down the verses fit the beat nicely. I like the story of the stalking ass girl friend breathing down his neck, I could see a nice video for this. And the beat by GREG LAWSON, and Damizza is way cool. I don't know why I like this song so much but I do.4/5
9.USED TO-finally one of the songs I was waiting for, TQ is in the house. The story in this song is great, the homie that u rolled with that blew and forgot everything, everyone, and forgot where he came from. U know the type, act like they are to good for everything. This is definitely one of my favorite tracks off of the album. Damizza drops a nice summer tyme feeling beat for this track.4.5/5
10.LORD WHAT HAVE I DONE-Krayzie Bone and Shade Sheist return along side LAYZIE BONE on this nice track. the stories in this song are tight, each has their own problems on this song and each comes off tight. And the beat from Damizza is real tight. And the hook is something most people will recognize.4/5
11.GET UR HEAD OUT UR ASS PLAYBOY-JERMAINE DUPRI drops his usual flashy style type of beat on this one, it's nice though. Shade rips the beat to pieces on this track with ease. Each verse gives proof of Shade's ability to be a major player in the game. Also why is JD doing his P.Diddy thing on this track.4/5
12.BOUNCE-TQ returns to drop a hook for Shade on this classic. The chorus is hella smooth, definitely off the hook. Shade drops some nice verses over this classic track, each verse is smooth. And to my surprise the man behind the boards on this bumpin track is none other then WARREN G. he definitely shows why he should be considered one of the games top producers.5/5
Over all this is a really good album that I recommend for everybody that wants some great music to ride to.
You Have To Be From Cali To Understand.......2002-05-31
First of all, I have to agree wit dude saying that nobody knows what they sayin. Shade Sheist is one of the best Cali grown rappers to come out in awhile. If you are from the East coast, it's cool you like him, but don't front and talk like you know him, You have to be from Cali, Southern Cali at that to know bout Shade Sheist. The album is a West Coast Classic, for the first 10 records sent to the local radio station to be stolen in a day tells you something. Everybody that thinks that they know shade sheist are going to say "Where I Wanna Be" is the best song, but that goes to show you they didn't listen to the cd. Plus it is Damizza Presnts , not Shade Sheist, so you got to give credit where credit is due. My personal favorite is "Get Ur Head Out Ur Ass". If you from the West Coast, it is for you, but if not I suggest just buying the single because you probably wont appreciate the other songs.
This were i wanna be.......2001-04-30
this album is good and the songs are all great go cop this
New to Damizza.......2001-04-12
Listen..... I just got this album....and have never heard of Shade Sheist. BUT IT IS FAT!!! It is a cross between Nate Dogg and Too Short. Truthfully, 2/3 of the album is good enough to bump anywhere. The other 1/3....probably should have been left off the album. Anyway....if you like Too Short/ Nate Dogg style....this one is a must. Oh ya....and "WHERE I WANNA BE" really is........worth the price of the whole CD!!!!!
This is where I wanna be..........2000-12-17
This album is worth buying just for one track, "Where I Wanna Be" w/ Kurupt and Nate Dogg is an instant west coast classic. But the album doesn't really stop with that. The whole album is blazing, but the best track usually have Shade Shiest on them. Rappers like this deserve to come up, instead of idoits like Cash Money. Oh well, we've always got west coast radio.

ANOTHER CLASSIC FROM THE WEST.......2004-03-20
SHADE SHIEST came correct with this smash hit, i remeber when this first came out that this song as being played every wwhere. this was the surprise smash hit of the summer. the tight laid back west coast bat was a amazing. also new comer SHADE SIEST has a very interesting voice that makes you want to listen. also he must have known he would have a hit when he got NATE DOGG, and my favorite rapper KURUPT to be on the song. first off you have the hook king Nate who probably has been involved in more hits then any one alive, and secondly youhane KURUPT who is one of the most respsected west coast rappers of all time. it's no surprise that this was a hit, and i recommend it to you all.
UNE PURE BOMBE.......2001-08-25
Cette chanson est trop bonne pour l'été en voiture elle nique tout avec Nate dogg fidele à son style!!
Tight.......2001-05-22
Tight single from a new West Coast rapper on the scene, can't wait for the album.
Great song.......2000-12-19
This is a tight laid-back song featuring Nate Dogg, Kurupt, and newcomer Shade Sheist. It's a really good song, so check it out!
