5 out of 5 stars SISSAYYYY!.......2007-05-11

I used to dig this group. I had this on cassette and lost it - I refuse to buy it again - meaning, if I lost it, I probably don't need it again, unless someone wants to buy it for me! hint, hint!!!

5 out of 5 stars TO THE EAST MY BROTHER.........AND THEN SOME!!!!!.......2007-01-25

if you do not remember x clan, you do not know hip hop.........i'm sorry. this whole thing should be somewhere in the smithsonian or somewhere important. i'd dig a baement in the alamo. i love it that much!!!! when i heard that professor x had passed at my job, my mouth stayed open the whole shift. i am like one of the reviewers here, without hearing THIS IS PROTECTED BY THE RED, THE BLACK, AND THE GREEN......WITH A KEY......SISSYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYUH!!!!, it just would not be an x clan track.........or BROTHA BROTHA BROTHA HOW YOU MAKE 'EM GET DOWN............sampled so many a time it's not funny!!!! missy elliot's UNDER CONSTRUCTION and what jermaine dupri is doing today..............x clan.............professor x............think about it. get this while you are thinking!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Funky, Funky Wisdom - - R.I.P. PXO & Sugar Shaft [5 Stars].......2006-05-16

There isn't a whole lot that I can add to the other reviews. This album is definitely one of the best albums (rap or otherwise) to come out of the 90's. I could go into specific songs and talk about how funky they were, but if you were around to experience their sound when they dropped in '90 (or have bothered to read the other reviews) then you know how dope they are. Grand Verbalizer, Funkin' Lesson, Shaft's Big Score, Tribal Jam.....I mean, the list just goes on and on.

As far as imperfections, there are none on this album. It may sound a little dated, but in my eyes, that's a good thing. I mean, really, when is the last time you were in a club and heard a funky jam that also tried to uplift who you were? My only beef is that the album is only 11 tracks deep and just under 48 minutes long.

Anyone that knows hip hop acknowledges the X-Clan as one of the dopest acts to come out of the 1990's. It you haven't heard To The East Blackwards, then go pick it up and quit sleeping

As many of you already know, Professor X died from complications from Meningitis this past March [3-17-06]. I wonder if X-Clan will still drop the material recorded during their comeback attempt this year (the Return From Mecca LP). I'd love to hear what they would sound like in 2006. Though Sugar Shaft (who died from complications from AIDS in '95) wasn't as vocal in the group, it's all but impossible to imagine what they'd sound like without Professor X The Overseer. R.I.P. PXO [Aug. 4, 1956 ~ Mar. 17, 2006].

Standout Tracks: Verbs Of Power, Tribal Jam, Raise The Flag, Earth Bound, Heed The Word Of The Brother, Funkin' Lesson, Verbal Milk, Shaft's Big Score (My Favorite), Grand Verbalizer What time Is It?, and In The Ways Of The Scales

5 out of 5 stars Just the x-best!.......2006-02-10

Me and my bro listened to it back in the day non-stop. It was great then and even better now!

Whereas Jodeci (the four-man ensemble that spawned this spin-off project) were known for their grinding-the-stage gyrations and afterparty aspirations, K-Ci & JoJo, often besuited in tuxes and tails, are a duo known more for their semidignified balladry. Each of their two previous albums (Love Always and It's Real) spawned an anodyne megahit: "All My Life" and "Tell Me It's Real," respectively. X promises nothing less. "Crazy" has that formula feel to it; "Baby, I apologize for all the things that I've done," JoJo croons at the outset, before giving way to a vocoded chorus so tinny it almost collapses. Nevertheless, its moody blue tenor is just what urban radio ordered. The pair keep up the serenades throughout X, hitting high points on "One Last Time" and the Marvin Gaye-ish "I Can't Find the Words." K-Ci and JoJo only go uptempo on the banal "Game Face" and the bubbly, aggressively sexy "Thug in Me, Thug in You." The latter features yet another lost 2Pac verse, and it's the only track where the two don't appear to stand on ceremony--hinting that freaks still lurk under those tuxedos. --Jon Caramanica

5 out of 5 stars Kci and jojo do it again........2004-01-22

Being a huge music fan, i can guarantee that you fill find it difficult to find a cd that comes close to this. Maybe with the exception of One twelve-part 3, which i am also obsessed with. This album has inspired me in aspects of my life. I often find that waking up listening to this sensational music not only gets me thinking back on great times and experiences i have had but also gives me a feeling of satisfaction. What i have found through listening to it is the more you listen to it and give it a chance the more you will understand where i am coming from. I originally had heard just 'crazy' and 'thuggin you thuggin me' but for all the songs to be at a similar standard to this was quite surreal. Track number 8 is called 'all the things i should have known' and has turned out to be my favourite, each word sung is sensational and has made a positive impact on my life. I believe that this is an essential must have cd in every RNB fans collection. I am devoting my life to try and find a concert in England that Kci and jojo will attend.

1 out of 5 stars "X" Does Not Hit The Spot.......2003-01-11

I think the album "X" should stand for the unknown, as in, what unknown force could have caused some of the top producers in this here game to pump out D-Grade material for the Hailey Bros?

After using mostly unknown producers on their first two albums, the brothers finally decide to flex their muscles with the some of the best producers, like Timbaland, Teddy Riley, Babyface, and DeVante Swing. Even the late 2pac's (R.I.P) vocals are reunited with the Haileys on this album. However, what could have been the musically defining album in the Hailey Bros discography is instead a medicore afterthought as all the songs came off as regrettably unforgettable. Considering what could have been, it's a shame that this album turned out to be very uninspiring.

The only tracks that stopped the heart for a few precious moments is the Jodeci hidden track "Slip N Fall" and the bonus track "I Just Can't Leave" found on the Japanese CD. "Slip N Fall" simply oozes wicked attitude as listening to it conjures up memories of days long gone when you could say Jodeci and get a reply like, "Those thugs can sure sing the panties off those song!". "I Just Can't Leave" starts off with a fan inquiring about K-Ci past relationships (i.e Mary J. Blige), to which good ole' K-Ci takes the high ground and tells them to leave it alone "cause she done all told you one time". After that humorous intro, K-Ci does his best "I B Goin' Solo Won't U Come and See Me" impression and belts out one nutty song that has him singing to his a) stalker on why he can't leave his girl then b) declaring his love forever, to his lady and finally c) sanging to the both of them at the same time. A nice little ditty from K-Ci that leaves you wanting more. Heck, after listening to both bonus tracks one is left wondering why they even bothered with the album "X" when a new Jodeci album or a K-Ci solo album sounds more appealing.

3 out of 5 stars (3-1/2 stars) Didn't age well.......2002-11-17

If this album came out now, I would give it three stars. In fact, K-Ci & JoJo's first album Love Always was the only album they made that was great no matter how many times you played it. THIS album sounded great upon first listen, but after I listened to it again I realized it isn't as good as it could have been.

There are some obviously good songs like "One Last Time", "Crazy" and "Something Inside Of Me". But then there are also some songs that don't sit right with me. "Suicide" flows well, but you have to admit that "I never thought of suicide/Until you took your love away" is a little extreme. There's also filler like "Thug N U Thug N Me" and the Timbaland-produced "Game Face"; and the hidden track, the ironically-titled "Slip And Fall", should have never been found. Speaking of which, since when are hidden tracks found BEFORE the end of the album?

It's rather disappointing that K-Ci & JoJo keep experimenting at times and give us some tracks that don't sound like them. Let's hope their next album can compare to the classic that Love Always is.

4 out of 5 stars Dope album .......2007-05-14

Don't listen to Dannyboy's borderline retarded review. Why a square like that guy is even listening to the album I have no idea. You can pretty much play this cd str8 thru. Obviously this is be4 they improved studio technology, so the sound isn't clear (since he's rappin over the phone) like his recent cd's are, but with that said, it makes this album that much more real. You really can't go wrong w/ a x-raided cd, especially this one.

4 out of 5 stars question.......2006-12-29

are the tracks from brainz and mo'brainz froma movie? If they are, wich one?

5 out of 5 stars Another absolutely hilarious effort.......2006-03-21

"Xorcist" is great. As I'm sure everyone now knows, X-Raided [sic] was sent to the joint after he bragged about a crime he committed on an album RELEASED TO THE PUBLIC. He then recorded this album OVER THE PHONE FROM PRISON (forgive my caps, I just can't believe this could actually happen.) "Xorcist" is as good as you think it'll be. He actually raps over the phone, the beats are totally, hilariously wack, and the backing singers can't sing AT ALL. It's awesome. The best part of it all, though, is X's hilarious, misspelt, and poorly punctuated quasi-apology in the liner notes to the husband or something of the woman he murdered. I totally recommend this album, it's a real keeper.

Furthermore, for those of you obsessed with "quality" who might question the decision to record an album over the phone, consider the following words of wisdom from some other discriminating reviewers:

"THIS IS 5 STAR MATERIAL FO'SHO-GREAT TA BUMP FROM START 2 FINISH-PEEP ALL OF HIZ ALBUMZ"

"he tried and i thyink this album rocks, juss the fact that he did make one in JAIL."

Heavy stuff, huh? I think this album must have some kind of, like, Mozart-effect on its listeners' IQs.

4 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2005-10-18

Not the best production quality, but what do you expect from someone rapping over the phone. It's still a good album.

5 out of 5 stars Sing Girls!.......2006-05-17

Four young women from NYC gave us some slamming ass songs with this debut. Everything is hot! I enjoy every song on this. So how come we don't hear from them anymore? Why Can't You Come Home is a dime song and it still sounds as good as the day it came out. Get This! U Won't be sorry! Grade: A-

4 out of 5 stars Still In Love.......2006-01-14

Papa-san (my father) bought me the cassette recording of Ex-Girlfriend's "X Marks The Spot" when I was still in middle school. I loved it then, and I'm still in love with it now. Though I'm a young adult *cough*, I still enjoy listening to these songs. Their harmonies were beautiful, and I can't (for the love of chocolate) understand why they're no longer around.

Though some may think of it as childish, I believe it has a bit of quirkiness as well. Some ballads, some dance tunes. All enhance their vocals and range. With such selections as "You (You're The One For Me)", and "Why Can't You Come Home" that made it to the charts and "With All My Heart", "I Found That Guy", and "I Love My Man" that never made it to the charts, you can't possibly go wrong with this CD!!

I haven't purchased the CD... but I still have my cassette, and I'm so thankful that this didn't get lost in the process of growing up, going off to college, and moving back home. Yes, I listened to it as a child, but even as a woman, it still speaks volumes. This is one timeless treasure that I plan on keeping with me for the rest of my life.

3 out of 5 stars Why Can't You Come Home.......2004-02-20

"Why Can't You Come Home" was a fun, catchy tune. Aisde from that, nothing that X-Girlfriend did was that memorable. Perhaps due to promotion, or lack of it. My suggestion is to buy the CD for "Why Can't You Come Home", as you aren't going to find it elsewhere. But don't expect much else from the CD.

4 out of 5 stars Great Voices.......2003-09-07

Ex-Girlfriend had the benefit of working with FULL FORCE (LISA LISA AND CULT JAM, CHERYL "PEPSII" RILEY) on their debut. After supplying luscious background vocals for Jasmine Guy on her debut single "Try me" the group dropped their 1st release "X MARKS THE SPOT".

The single "Why can't you come home?" was a hit. Another single "YOU" hit the top 40. This cd mixes it up pretty good with up-tempo dance and r&b cuts. "What i would do to you" and "Fellas in the area" are all prime early 90's r&b, with the latter showing the new york natives spitting rhymes on the mic about their fellas of choice.

The ballads show their harmonies to be in good form. "With all my heart" is a song of teenage angst about the amount of love a girl has for her boyfriend. Then "I love my man" is from the woman's point of view. Lead singer Stacey tears into this song and has a powerful voice with alot of range. She is similar to an adult STACEY LATTISAW (they even have the same name...lol). This is a good piece of 90's girl group r&b. If you can find it...Buy it!

5 out of 5 stars I love this albulm.......2003-05-23

It is a great album with alot of smooth groves on it. Check it out you will love it.

By the time Shabba released this sophomore Epic LP, his comedic sex machine persona was honed to perfection. From the opener, "Ting-a-ling"--a great uptempo dancehall jam--through the other 11 tracks, Xtra Naked lives up to its title with nonstop sex and microphone boasting. "Bedroom Bully" is fun, but, again, the duets with R&B artists, like "Slow and Sexy" with Johnny Gill, try too hard to cater to American tastes and come off as merely cheesy. Queen Latifah and Shabba in "What 'Cha Gonna Do?" seem to be voicing two different records. "Cocky Rim" is typically lewd, grimly so, with nary a hint of levitating wit. As for those over-the-top moans, groans, and "please don't stop's" in the background--puhlease, Shabba, puhlease! --Elena Oumano

3 out of 5 stars For Hardcore Dre Fans.......2006-06-26

This is not meant to be presented as a real album as other compliations try to do. The title "Concrete Roots" suggests that these are songs that were made when Dre was first emerging as a producer. What seperates this from the other compliations is that Dre actually makes money off of it, which is why it's listed as one of his albums on the Aftermath Entertainment website. If you are a hardcore Dre fan, you should get this. If you like Electro or the early days of NWA you probably won't mind this either. But don't buy this if you are looking for g-funk masterpieces like The Chronic or 2001.

I know those were the days but dr.dre choose to backstab ruthless anyway. Why remind him of his mistakes by putting a "bootleg" like this out on the market. Don't but this, instead get the albums some of these songs appeared on first and get your moneys worth.

5 out of 5 stars yo i love this cd.......1999-12-20

5 out of 5 stars Not bad as in bad, but bad as in good!.......2005-01-17

MUCH MUCH MUCH better than the previous release "Valley Of The Jeep Beets".
In the last album, it seemed as if Terminator was on the sell out tip, infact he even had a pop track on the album. How low can you go?
On this album, he totally redeems himself. He's back with his original industrial/Hip-Hop beats that we know him for, along with Chuck, and a nice round up of Hip-Hop forefathers.
I can't really describe this, all I can say is it is cool in the way that only Terminator X can deliver. Definatly a MUST buy for any PE collector.

5 out of 5 stars Classic No Limit Album that's very rare.......2005-11-16

This is Classic No Lomit from their Richmond, California days. The title track, Good Girl Gone Bad, is one of No Limit's Top 20 songs of all time. No Limit was at its best when they had that Bay Area sound. This album guest features Conscious Daughters and Suga T (from The Click). It also features Master P's diss on Dru Down and the Luniz with a "I Got Five On It" cover called "I Can't Trust No Man." P and Dru Down had beef over who had rights to call himself "The Ice Cream Man." In Reality, neither one of them had the right, Cheech and Chong own that, but Master P blew up and Dru Down disappeared. That's why Master P started calling himself "The Real Ice Cream Man". Good Girl Gone Bad is a very good album with 11 tracks on a supposed Eight Play (EP). If you can find yourself a copy, jump on it. It's worth the song Good Girl Gone Bad and Big Ed's verse on the song Mission 2 Get Paid. It's probably a 4.5 Star Album and not 5, but still worth getting. I paid 60 bucks for my copy and had no regrets. Mia X later released Unladylike (4.5 stars) and Mama Drama (2 Stars). Let's face it, after Ghetto D everything was downhill for No Limit. Although they sold more albums later on, the quality just wasn't there. It's all about their San Francisco Bay Area albums.

4 out of 5 stars GHETTO MIA X TO THE WORLD........2005-10-02

PRETTY GOOD CD FROM THE FIRST LADY OF THE TANK.

MIA PUT OUT 2 MORE CDS IN 1997,98. THEN JUST VANISHED,

    WHERE IS MIA X?????????

THIS IS WORTH GETTING - IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY FOR THIS GET MAMA DRAMA

    5 out of 5 stars good stuff.......2004-06-13

this is mia x first effort on the early no limit. This cd came out in 1995 when no limit was still making albums on the west coast.Thats why west coast rappers conscince daughters and suga t make apperances. So it sound a little different from the no limit most are familar with but its still has tight beats and rhymes.
