At Rah Digga's best, ripping lines on her single "Tight" or showering you with disrespect on "Straight Spittin', Part II," she recalls a young MC Lyte--before her lipstick and rouge phase--a street-smart tomboy with the right blend of talent and attitude to hold her own. It doesn't hurt that Digga's blessed with one helluva voice--a coarse, rough-hewn flow that's strong enough for a man, but made by a woman. Little wonder that she throws her lot in with the roughnecks, but wisely avoids most (though not all) of the standard thug clichés. Production--handled by an assortment of producers, including Busta Rhymes, DJ Premier, and Rockwilder--is consistently strong, especially on cuts like "Lessons of Today," "Tight," and even the crossover pitch "So Cool," with crooner Carl Thomas. Her time with the lackluster Flipmode Squad is best forgotten--let Digga stand on her own. --Oliver Wang
Customer Reviews:
Decent debut.......2006-11-20
If you familiar with my reviews you may say I'm contradicting. Cause I'm more towards lyrics than production. But this album has some very bad beats, that its very hard to ignore. Some of the best songs with the dopest lyrics by a female since the days of MC Lyte and Bahamadia are dragged down cause of the beats. And a couple of filler songs. Rah digga was one of the best female rappers. Its a shame she hasn't dropped anything in awhile. Favorite tracks are Lessons of Today, Showdown, and Tight. Good rapper, bad production.
RAW DIGGA!.......2006-08-11
Rah digga is another one of hiphop's elite that we should never forget regardless of how lukewarm her singles that came after this album are. Standout tracks: Break Fool, Tight, What they call me, Do the ladies run this, lessons of today, curtains etc plus there are two bonus tracks on this cd that are great. Filler: F--k yall n---as and the skits are stupid as hell! Lesson of today(produced by DJ Premier) and What they call me(Produced by Pete Rock) should be remain on the minds of every hiphop head till the day they die! Rah digga gets my respect because she isnt a lowlife rap hooker like these other overhyped drama queens. She gave her all on this album and thats what you get. I would recommend this album to anybody.
"First and only female ummatched by anyone".......2006-04-06
In just 7 words, one of the closing lines of her hit w/ labelmate Busta Rhymes on "Imperial," Digga spits a line that tells a crucial truth to her rhymes. Rah Digga (First name Rayshia) hails from Jersey and gave the music industry a new breed (sound/flow/lyrical concept) of female.
By far the most distinguished voice in hip-hop (male or female), Rah Digga has a formula that is indescribable and undeniable, she proves that though her voice may not match the high (and sometimes annoying) pitches of her fellow female rapstars, her voice utters hardcore w/ every syllable she spits.
Digga chose Dirty harriet as the name of this classic compilation because like slave-icon Harriet Tubman, she plans to free people from a stand-still existence. Rah Digga does just that w/ widening mouthes, opening ears, and bring true hip-hop fans to their knees with this one.
I've notived that alot of reviewers of this album often comment on the production and how it doesn't suit a mainstream hip-hop artist. The world 'album' entails an engulfing of many different things, and if you know real hip-hop, you know that real hip-hop is based far more on lyrics than production.
I can't begin to compare to any female in the rap game because Digga stands solo on a plateau of her own. This rugged, thugged femcee is the true epitome of keeping it gangsta and I feel that she far underrated (Her music is even more pleasing than most of the males).
I've given this album 5 stars because of its originality, sadistic flow, endless creativity, and Rah Digga's authentic aura. Stand out tracks: Break Fool, Curtains, Imperial, Straight Spittin' Part II, F**k Ya'll N**gas, Do The ladies Run This, and of course, Harriet Thugman.
A Hip Hop Classic.......2006-01-14
Now I have heard a lot of people say that Rah Digga has sick lyrics but the production is all wrong so let me explain. If you're a mainstream commercial rap head then yes I guess to you the production would be terrible but if you know true hip hop then you give this album and it's production the respect it deserves. First if you don't know Digga's style that well you buy this thinking it will be commercial from the songs she released like Break Fool but it's not even close to commercial. The beats are hot but they also are the type of beats that make the artist step up their flow to that next level and Digga uses this perfectly. She to me was the top female artist when this album came out and she is way better than most of the guys. She does everything from telling stories to sick punchlines, which makes this a classic. Now one thing a lot of people always want to know is if the album is in your stereo system is the bass on point. Yes these beats might even break your speakers and it will most likely disturb every neighbor on your block.
Great lyrics, Not that good for production........2005-08-25
I would have to admit that Rah Digga can write really good rhymes. Although, the production is weak near the end of the album and most of the tracks are boring besides the singles.
Great tracks: "Tight," **** "Imperial,"**** & "Break Fool."

Album Description
Fasten your seat belt! You've never heard anything like this! Eric and Stacey Jones are two of the most gifted, disciplined, and spirited percussion artists to ever pick up a mallet. "Parhelion" is a fitting title for this Eroica CD, because these magnificent players are unified pieces of the sun. Sun Dogs, also known as "mock suns" or "parhelion," are a dazzling meterological phenomenon in which TWO luminous diamond shaped spots appear at either side of the sun when its rays shine through ice crystals floating in the air during cold winter months. In other words, meet Eric and Stacey Jones.
Customer Reviews:
Equal Temperament's Parhelion.......2000-08-06
Equal Temperament has assembled a first-rate compact disc. Most of the pieces on the disc were commissioned by the duo. The listener's interest is maintained because each piece sets up a unique sonic world - contrasting with each of the other pieces on the disc. The performers present very sensitive interpretations of the young composers' works. I recommend "Parhelion" to anyone interested in percussion music, the music of young composers or contemporary music.
A Must for Percussion Lovers.......2000-07-06
This CD is a must for all percussionists....and for all those who are just lovers of percussion. The performance of every composition is superb and stunning......executed with precision and drama. As composer of one of the selections ("Digga-digga...") it is wonderful to hear your music the way it was intended to be played. Eric and Stacey are a true talent and are sure to go far in the percussion world. Also, the recording quality is top notch...all done in natural reverb (It was recorded in a church!) with no added effects. Make sure you buy this CD...you wil not be disappointed!
Composer thrilled with exceptional performances.......2000-06-08
As the composer of two works on this CD, I have to share my tremendous respect for the talents of these two gifted artists, and their impeccable performances of my works. They play with such enthusiasm and energy, it is a recording that I would recommend just for the performance alone. The engineering is also first rate, and captures the power and subtlety of the instruments and performances. Wonderful.
Proud Grandmother.......2000-02-03
My first impression was an outstanding performance of two motivated young people who show a promising future in percussion.
Equal Temperament - Great Job!.......2000-02-01
Best classical multiple percussion pieces I've heard. Nice to see some new young performers! Marimba pieces are exceptionally good. It's obvious the duo is very talented!

Great swing music.......2006-12-19
I love this album. Great acoustic sound. I can listen to it in the car and drive across the country. It is so easy to listen to. I love the mixture of standard swing in the style of Django Reinhardt, and the original compositions. I highly recommend this album.

If you want to smile, listen to this music! Hot Club Sandwich is a great hot jazz string band made up of 6 talented musicians. I can listen to this CD and their first CD all day long. They play everything--big band songs, Gypsy and Mexican folk songs, original compositions and more. I highly recommend both their CD's.

Customer Reviews:
This group is the last GREAT R & B band. They play it all!.......1999-07-23
I received this record from a friend in Kansas City. I was told they were just a local band, but that it was the kind of music I would enjoy. Boy, was that an understatement. To begin with, the lead singer has one sultry voice. The horn section sounds like they have been playing together for years and the lead guitarist must be one of the best kept secrets in the music business. Most of the material are cover tunes, but I haven't heard them before. They have two original tunes, both are very strong but track four, Sweat Like James Brown, is better than 99% of the crap on the radio today. James Brown should be singing this song himself. The title track is a flapper tune from the twenties and has a fresh spin on it. They also do Charlie Parker and Thelonius Monk jazz with authenticity and originality. My GAWD they do "MY Little Suede Shoes" as a Ska song. This is an album I will play for years to come. I hope this band is successful. I can't wait until the next album.
