One of the best albums of all time. .......2007-06-17

This is a must have if you're a doo-woper. The original album on Vee-Jay records titled this album, Jerry Butler & The Impressions. "For Your Precious Love" was the biggest hit on the album lead by Jerry Butler. I had the original album but got lost during a move. Jerry also sings "The Gift Of Love". This is one of the most romantic songs i've ever heard. Other highlights are "Sweeter was the wine" which was the flip side of "Precious Love". The song is up beat tempo and Jerry delivers as usual. The late Curtis Mayfield also sings lead on "Hey Senorita", "Say That You Love Me" "Young Lover", Lover's Lane ect ect. You will not be dissapointed with this collection. Get it before it goes out of print again becauuse this is a gem. It was originally released in 1963. AT that time, the Impressions were on ABC Paramount with hit's like Gypsy Woman, It's Alright & many more. @ The same time, Curits Mayfield was proudcing for Jerry Butler on Vee-Jay records. this is a hot one here.

Worth It Just For "I Can't Make It Alone".......2005-06-25

I have to say that the biggest disappointment for me when I saw the track listing for the CD reissue of Jones' Greatest Hits package was the absence of "I Can't Make It Alone," the song which closed out her original 8-cut Greatest Hits LP. In fact, my disappointment at the absence of this song outweighed my joy at the fact that 14 songs which weren't on the LP were on the CD. As far as I can tell, this collection and my (mother's LP collection) are the only places this phenomenal song--by far the best of the 8 on that original Greatest Hits album--can be found.

And let me tell you: On this CD, it's a lot less scratchy than on my mother's LP . . .

Much could be found elsewhere, but still worthwhile.......2001-07-31

Although much of this collection could be found on the "Hypnotized" collection and the "Best of Loma Records" set (the latter a mandatory purchase for fans of obscure Soul), this is still a worhtwhile purchase of Linda Jones's later work. The histrionics may not be to everyone's taste (one could picture her contemporary Patti Labelle flapping her arms and rolling on the floor here), but Linda Jones had more talent in her little finger that Destiny's Child have in their three bodies.

The rare cuts here are her collaborations with her labelmates the Moments. She remakes their "Not On the Outside" with fine effect and her version of their 1969 classic "I Do" is breathtaking, although the histrionics are such that you have to listen to the Moments' original to understand the lyrics. But her song with th actual Moments' "Dont Go" is an amazing combination of Miss Jones' gut-bucket Soul with the Moments' sweet Philly sounds. It works well and it reminds you of the kind of song you'd hear on a soul station in the morning on the way to school in the early 70s. Enjoy!

Early Curtis Mayfield's Compositions!.......2002-09-03

This is a great CD for the fact you can hear to the early Impressions including early Curtis Mayfield's songwriting. The second part of the CD is Jerry Butler solo singing his interpretations of traditional & contemporary folk songs. Overall the the first 12 songs are really Curtis Mayfield singing lead and it's really the original Impressions singing. This means if your into Doo Wop in the style of the Flamingos, Moonglows & The El Doradoes this CD is for you.
