The latter was written as a tribute to the legendary Joe Williams and the golden age of Swing. "Open Your Heart" is a response to the tragedy of September 11.

"52nd Street", recorded in September, 2001 at Blue Cherry Studios in San Jose, CA, follows the criticial success of Victor's debut CD, "Promise" and features performances by Chris Camozzi, Nelson Braxton, Jeff Lorber, Mark Levine, Chris Botti, Gerald Albright and the Oakland Interfaith Youth Gospel Choir.

5 out of 5 stars Tantalizing and Uplifting Music!!!.......2007-04-11

Victor Fields has illuminated the music genre with his CD, 52nd Street. The smooth blending of words and rhythm in the variety of songs on this CD is very relaxing. One must own this CD, listen to the music, and allow the melody to calm the mind. The first song on the CD, "Five-Two Blues," sets the pace for the rest of the songs. The tone of "And I Love Her," moves the melody to a higher stage. The words of "The Look of Love" transition the CD into high gear for the final song, "Open Your Heart." As we all know, it's never too late for love to resonate into an open heart. What a delightful way to close this CD with an excellent song. This is a must get CD for singing along with the heart warming music of Victor Fields.

4 out of 5 stars Music That Focuses on the Artist.......2003-02-23

This CD is for a true fan of music not someone who goes for the hype of today's hottest artists who have a "hook" but lack real musical talent.

Victor's Field's handling of such classic songs as Walk On By and Send In The Clowns will leave you mesmerized. If you are someone who remembers those songs when they where being done by artist in the 60's and early 70's, like I do, you will love this CD. That is not to say that this CD is for the over forty crowd because the songs are fresh yet classic, at the same time. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I truly wanted more of the classics. I could have gone for an entire CD of classics sung by Mr. Fields. Get this CD if you appreciate true singers.

This Fantasy Records release has three great songs:

    1. Happy Music (The 'extended' version!)
    2. Always There (Ronnie Laws)
    3. Always There (Side Effect)

These three great songs on one disc - for the price? Before I ordered the disk, I said to myself that they must be be joking - but this disk is no joke - get a copy and see for yourself. The rest of the disc is good - but the three songs listed above make it well worth the purchase!!!

3 out of 5 stars Not exactly chillout music.......2001-01-06

I bought this cd under the impression that it would be "beautiful chill out music (mostly because it says that on the cover). "Porcelain" can be desribed that way so I thought the rest would be like that. Well, I didn't know that "beautiful" and "chill-out" meant techno dance haush-baush. The only redeeming songs are by "Chicane". 3 minutes of rain and mumbling? Give me a break! I would have bought a nature cd if that's what I wanted. I guess if you can tune out the constant thump-thump beat and listen to the background keyboard "atmospheres" it's not so bad. I guess I'll stick with "Enigma" or "Moodswings" for beautiful, chillout, ORIGINAL, music. Oh yeah, can anyone make a cool, real chill-out cd with out singing on it?

3 out of 5 stars the cd works better as a drink coaster.......2000-12-14

Maybe I don't know what I am talking about, but I can't stand this CD. Compilations in general always sketch me out, so I guess it is my own fault that I bought this. I made the purchase after reading other reviews, and actually believed that this was as epic as everyone seemed to describe. Unfortunately I was entirely disapointed, and after giving it a few chances, I can't get into it. It just isn't a great mix of songs. Plain and simple. Chicane is the one redeeming factor, and obviously Moby's addition is a classic, but who doesn't already own Porcelin by now? I challenge the music tastes of the reviewers who liked this cd, and of course mine is by no means golden, but come on. It just goes to show- to each his own- I suppose. This CD- is going to look great underneath my glass of water.

I bought this cd for the song "Porcelain" and was expecting the rest of the cd to be average. I was pleasantly surprised. The whole cd is exceptional! If you have any doubts at all, put them aside. You will not be disappointed!

This is the third in the award-winning series Abstract Afro Lounge from Nite Grooves, a sub-label of King Street Records. Like its predecessors, it is a vibrant collection of songs, reflecting the resurgence of interest / obsession with Afro-centric music and culture, in which the very origins of house music are deeply rooted. It features such greats as Blaze, DJ Spinna, Ananda Project, Romatt Project and many others.

A child prodigy in the Dallas country scene of the early '50s, Poovey, by then a Big "D" Jamboree regular, jumped right in behind Elvis in the mid-'50s with "Ten Long Fingers." An obscure recording then, the original, included here, is now viewed as quintessential Texas rockabilly. This carefully compiled collection of singles, (including some surprisingly strong early-'90s rockers), demos, home recordings, and live material examines a career that while modest, ended only with the singer's untimely death in 1998. Not that everything was prime: two ultracorny 1954 Christmas recordings of a 13-year-old Poovey are of strictly historical interest, and even some of the rockers don't make a compelling case for Poovey as underrated giant. Just the same, his heart, versatility, and personality were undeniable, and his Texas honky-tonk roots--showcased on a burning 1979 live version of Ray Price's "Pride"--were never far away. -Rich Kienzle

    Album Description

Texas rockabilly hero "Groovey" Joe Poovey gets a much deserved career retrospective with "Greatest Grooves", a fantastic collection of his best rockabilly and honky tonk country recordings from 1954 to the present. I really enjoy the Spinning CD. I am not a musician. I just like to listen to good music. I love the Spinning CD!! The jazzy/unique sound of this band is really refreshing. The more I listen to it - the more I like it. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Spinning circles around standard pop bands.......2001-07-02

Sweet Sweet Candy is clearly a bunch of really talented musicians, having a really good time. You can't pigeonhole the music 'cause they bounce from style to style - and make it all sound good.

My favorite is "Feel" - the time signature's all over the map and still your toes keep tapping.

Let some real musicians show you there's more to music than the four chords you hear on the radio!

        5 out of 5 stars A band with a lot of promise.......2001-06-03

"Spinning" is a really satisfying CD. The band emphasizes rhythmic invention, and as a result the songs get better with repeated listenings. The horns give the CD a nice jazzy feel, but without ever getting in the way of the driving beats. The vocals are great, and the sound is tight even though the band is aggressively exploring that unchartered territory between rock and jazz. The 3 live tracks at the end are a bonus - they let the listener see both the similarities and the contrasts between the studio work and live performances of a really fine band.

        4 out of 5 stars Excellent musicianship.......2001-05-30

Hard to classify. Too rock to be jazz -- too jazz to be rock. The horn and rhythm sections are absolutely tight. Wonderful progression over their last CD. If you appreciate great playing, this one's for you. Catch 'em live if you're in Chicago.

4 out of 5 stars Hybrid Urban Tunes.......2001-05-27

This group skillfully eludes categorization. At once, the album weaves sounds of jazz nostalgia with a range of takes on contemporary urban grooves. It's a masterful work of hybridity that compels the body to move to the beat--but is equally a treat for the keen, attentive ear seeking out something complex.
