5 out of 5 stars "The Promise".......2007-07-27

My mom is a Tracy Chapman fan and I first listened to this cd of hers before I was about to leave for military boot camp ten years ago. My mom & I are very close and it was so very difficult to leave. "The Promise" spoke to me at that time in my life, it made me weep, and it still makes me cry every time I hear it. Great, great beautiful song.

1 out of 5 stars Bland bordering on bad.......2007-05-05

For all that we may want to say about Tracy Chapman, I think it all boils down to the fact that she is one of the most overrated artists in recent memory. Her lyrics cry for a desire to be important and powerful and fall greatly short of such aspirations. The music which accompanies her bland and boring stories are even more bland and boring themself. This CD does more than just put me to sleep, it bores the life out of me. Not one song, besides perhaps "Give me on reason" will stick with you after listening to it. The songs on this cd are adult contemporary at its most basic and least important. Pass on this one

5 out of 5 stars Smooth and upbeat....yet relaxing.......2007-02-02

Awesome....would love to have another CD with all the great songs as this one

5 out of 5 stars The Promise.......2007-01-06

This song is so beautifully written and performed, and leaves such a profound effect on many people. I first heard The Promise while I was pregnant with my daughter, Sydney. She had problems and we knew at that point during my pregnancy that she wouldn't live long once she was born. I became so attached to this song- and then even more after she died in my arms. I felt that this was her song to me. It's been almost 3 years since she died, and I still cannot make it through the song without becoming very emotional. This song helped to get me through a dark time in my life and will always be my daughter, Sydney's song. I have listened to this song so much- I thought I would wear out the cd. It is beautiful and I am so grateful that it found me.

5 out of 5 stars I love this album.......2006-12-24

I managed to get this CD from my sister and just listened to it
today. With most folk, blues albums it'll take me a couple of
listens to really like them, but this album was different.
Tracy's voice is powerful and on point. She also has a lot
to say and says it with feeling. I believe the folks who gave
a bad review because the whole album isn't like "Give Me One Reason"
did the album an injustice. These songs are still relevant today
and sound very good even 10 years later. That's saying a lot.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Pregnancy Relaxation CD.......2007-04-11

I bought this CD to practice relaxation in order to prepare for a natural childbirth. It was toward the end of my pregnancy but I listened to it almost daily and really enjoyed it. It is calm, not annoying, and I liked the verbal imagery the lady uses. I was indeed able to have a natural childbirth. It is definitely worth getting during pregnancy. I plan on using it in the future and even think I'll use it right now with my newborn when I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. Great CD.

5 out of 5 stars A soon-to-be Mother's MUST!!.......2007-02-16

I was given this CD as a gift, and I call it my "God-sent gift" because it helped me overcome all of the "fears" I had about becoming a new Mommy. The meditations helped me focus on my breathing, and I remembered the music and visualizations as I was going through labor. When my baby was very young, she hated travelling in the car...I play Heartstrings and it calms her (and I) down immediately!!

5 out of 5 stars good for bedrest.......2007-01-08

I bought this cd for my wife because the doctor put her on bedrest and said she needed to reduce stress. She says it was a great support for a difficult pregnancy.

5 out of 5 stars Very relaxing.......2006-06-03

This program has saved my sanity! I've been using these meditations for about 4 weeks and already I can feel a positive effect in my mood and stress level. I didn't know what to expect when I bought it, but after a few days of doing one meditation plus a couple of affirmations every morning and night, I was hooked. The music is pretty and melodic, and the voice is friendly and soothing. When I use this CD I feel like I'm being proactive in the healthy development of my baby. I highly recommend buying this CD and making the committment to yourself to take 5 or 10 minutes out of every day to bond with your baby. It's made my pregnancy experience much happier and less stressful!

5 out of 5 stars Love it!.......2006-05-13

Using this CD throughout my pregnancy really helped me relax and made it easier to deal with all the stress in my everyday life. The underlying music is really nice - it's not too "new-agey" like a lot of those other guided meditation CDs on the market. Also, the guided visualizations are short enough that you can do one or two a day without having to take too much time out of a busy schedule. I love this CD and recommend it to all my friends who are pregnant or are trying to get pregnant.

The tale of a mother who poses as her son's estranged father in letters, yet eventually has to enlist a stranger to play the role, director Shona Auerbach's intimate indie became a film festival perennial. Given the movie's tearjerker tendencies, its musical score becomes an even more crucial component of its deft, if relatively non-manipulative dramaturgy. Young composer Alex Heffes more than rises to the occasion, providing a delicate score fueled by spare, elegant piano and emotionally-longing string arrangements. Heffes work here mines the same intimately scaled, soulfully resonant vein as Rachel Portman's Oscar-nominated music for Lasse Hallstrom's Ciderhouse Rules and Chocolat, a skillful musical tack that's openly emotional, yet seldom cloying. The contributions of modern rockers Clarksville (the buoyant "Everyone Will Have Their Day" and more intimate ballad "Reprise") and singer-songwriters Obi and Jesse Harris organically mesh with Heffes' score in a way that's all to rare in an era where pop songs often contribute little more than marketing shuck to film projects. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars My Dear, Dear Frankie.......2007-08-06

I enjoy discovering music from around the world and often find that film soundtracks can offer a convenient intro. From the first scene in Dear Frankie, I was completely drawn in by the delicate balancing of narration and the haunting musical score.

2 out of 5 stars Uhhh... It's Ok..........2007-05-01

I really loved the movie and especially little Frankie. There where three songs that just stuck in my head for weeks, so I bought the CD... unfortunatly out of the three songs, only one was on the CD... I was alittle dissapointed but overall it is a good CD. I really like Jesse Harris. He is the best on the whole CD.

3 out of 5 stars Key songs are missing.......2007-02-21

After watching "Dear Frankie" on cable several times, I decided to buy it and the soundtrack album. I did not read the detailed list of songs before buying. Although the soundtrack is good for what it is, I was disappointed that the song "Delicate" by Damien Rice was not included. Nor was the song about the "white horse" that was sung twice during the movie, once by Lizzie and once by the club singer. It would have been nice also to have the "Macarena" song which was in the movie.

4 out of 5 stars Nice mix of score and soundtrack.......2007-02-07

This album is nice because it has all the score music along with all the other music played in the movie on one CD. The "Dear Frankie Main Title" is especially nice to have. I bought this CD for my sister for Christmas, but now the whole family wants to listen to it. I would recommend it for anyone that liked the movie!

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful, sensitive, sad and hopeful. .......2007-01-21

I stumbled upon this quiet little movie and feel like I've discovered a wonderful jewel. I was immediately enamored by the soundtrack and worked hard to purchase it right away. The music along with a few dialogue excerpts communicate much of the emotion and power of the movie. There's one song that was, regrettably, not on the soundtrack but I recommend be added to the CD or your collection: Damien Rice, "Delicate" from the "O" album. The music communicates such a sense of loss and longing while maintaining just enough of a glimmer of hope that you end up feeling alright.

It's a wonderful soundtrack and definitely worth the purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Good Collection.......2006-01-10

Travis Tritt is one of the most unique (and stylistic) singers to arrive on the "modern" country music scene. While not nearly as traditional as Dwight, and not as gifted guitarist as his cohort, Marty, Travis Tritt is one of the most recognizable, original, and true-to-form artist in our genre; his voice, although original, beckons back to the glory days of early Hank Jr and Conway Twitty....and throw in a little Greg Allman while we're at it. Personally, I prefer the traditional country sound, but will admit to occasionally dabbling in southern rock; and Travis has taken over where Bocephus left off in the early '90's. This album has a combination of his more rolicking "southern-fried" boogie numbers as well as some true honky-tonk classics. Not many artists have the ability to include hard driving rock-induced numbers as "T-R-O-U-B-L-E" and "...Drive in Your Country" along with such traditional songs like "Help Me Hold On" and "Sometimes She Forgets (a song written by a much thinner and literate Steve Earle)". And of course, there are the standard '90's fare of: "Drift Off to Dream", "Anymore", and "Tell Me I Was Dreaming". And, if that wasn't enough, his duet with Marty "The Whiskey Aint Working" is also included. Overall, A good album.

5 out of 5 stars This is country!!!.......2005-08-29

As a typical old time country fan, I ignored Travis Tritt. He was too young, he didn't record back in the 50's, and besides, he wore his hair too long. Then I stumbled across "Sometimes She Forgets," which prompted me to buy his greatest hits album. Okay, I was wrong. W R O N G ! There, I've said it. Travis Tritt is all country and one of the world's finest honky tonk singers. Do yourself a favor and add this CD to your collection. I promise, you will play it again and again.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest from the greatest.......2005-06-20

Travis Tritt is the greatest country singer ever!!!

Greatest Hits: From the Beginning is the best of the best of the best.

just great music!

4 out of 5 stars Good Stuff.......2005-03-07

Travis Tritt has been called "outlaw" country since he first hopped onto the scene with "Country Club." He warrants that distinction, but much like Waylon Jennings, Tritt can put out beautiful and heart-wrenching ballads when he wants to. This disc covers the earlier part of Tritt's career. Included is the aforementioned(and somewhat gimmicky)"Country Club," and another gimmicky tune in "Put Some Drive In Your Country." "Here's A Quarter," "The Whiskey Ain't Workin'" and "Ten Feet Tall And Bulletproof" add to his "outlaw" label.

But I have to say that Tritt sounds best on his heart-tuggers like "Anymore," "Tell Me I Was Dreaming," and the wonderful "Foolish Pride." You'll also find "Help Me Hold On" and my personal favorite, "I'm Gonna Be Somebody."

Tritt's a definite star in the world of Country music. I don't think he'll be regarded as a legend like Jennings, but he'll make a great run of it.

Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic follow up to their debut.......2007-06-15

"New Beginning" is a fantastic follow up to SWV's debut album. There are so many standout tracks on this album and the harmonies are amazing. Great effort!! Just makes me miss SWV all that much more. They are sorely missed.

5 out of 5 stars Great second effort........2007-05-24

SWV really goes all out on this one. If you listen carefully their New Jack Swing is still there, just modernized for the year of 1996. The beats are great, the lyrics are cool and the singing, as always, sensational. This album features a great song, Use Your Heart, which makes you feel kind of dreamy. Don't take my word for it though, listen for yourself. Great album and I highly recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars Definitely Their Best...4 1/2 Stars.......2007-02-21

SWV defintely showed growth between this and It's About Time. They kinda slowed down on the new jack swing material and showcased more ballads and their vocals. Taj and Lelee get to sing lead and Coko and Taj lend a hand in songwriting which shows their growth as artists. The best tracks are "You're the One", "Love is So Amazin", "When This Feeling", "Fine Time". There were really no low points of the album and this album really showed that these Sisters do have Voices. Good Job!!!

3 out of 5 stars it was alright.......2005-07-22

I had this CD years ago casue these girls can really sing and but really, this album is nothing special after Use Your Heart though I had the first part of the album on heavy rotation back in the day. Same story with the Release Some Tension album. I would just get a greatest hits from them because all their best singles are on those and these girls have great singing skills.

5 out of 5 stars New Beginning.......2005-05-15

I remember this album when I was in the 3rd grade. I played this album so much. The tape broke, and I had to buy the CD. Their core urban audience will delight in everything from the oh-so-funky slam dunk beats of "On and On",to the sparse,no-frills street vibe of the bumpin'"That's What I'm Here For". The heightened soul awareness of ballads like "Use Your Heart," a breezy, dreamy R&B affair, the lazy, seductive "When This Feeling", the lush, romantic "You Are My Love" and the somber, melancholy beat balladry of "Fine Time". "Don't Waste Your Time", a dreamy, inviting hip-hop soul track co-written by Faith Evans. Coko and Taj turn in the sultry soul spiced "Whatcha Need", and Taj's solo debut writing on "Love Is So Amazin'. Coko and Taj made their debut as a song writing team with the bright-sounding,vampy urban funk flow of "You're The One." Coko composed the slow 'n steady soul grind of "I'm So In Love". With this album,SWV has re-emerged as 3 women ready to express themselves and be heard for who they truly are today.
This album is mellow, jazzy, streetwise, and has a little pop sound.
This album has been certified 2x Platinum. Remember, this was 1996.

Despite racking up Tony nominations and/or box-office success with Nine, Grand Hotel, and Titanic, Maury Yeston remains a relatively unknown Broadway auteur. And yet, what a fabulous songwriter he is. Listen to "Home," for instance: This excerpt from Phantom (the other adaptation of Phantom of the Opera) has great melodic hooks, along with natural sweep and unrestrained emotion. Like every song on this CD, it also has such dramatic drive that it easily stands on its own outside of its regular narrative frame. This collection of new recordings provides an excellent overview of Yeston's talent, juxtaposing numbers from his three best-known scores (though there's only one from Titanic) with rarities and a generous selection from his 1991 song cycle December Songs. Christine Ebersole, Liz Callaway, and Betty Buckley turn in expectedly strong performances, but watch also for Laura Benanti (the star of the 2003 revival of Nine), Christine Andreas, and Foster Sutton, who completely make the material theirs. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars a wonderful surprise.......2007-07-22

Like others, I bought this CD primarily for Sutton Foster's rendition of "I Want to Go to Hollywood." And while that's wonderful, the real surprises here are the songs from Yeston's song cycle "December Songs." Christine Ebersole and Christine Andreas give absolutely lovely, technically proficient, completely heartfelt renditions of "My Grandmother's Love Letters" and "By the River", respectively. I'd heard Andrea Marcovicci's recording of "December Songs" and was seriously underwhelmed. These two tracks just prove that Yeston might have over-estimated Marcovicci's range and technical ability. "By the River" is a revelation in the right hands, and Ms. Andreas's rendition is just four minutes of wonderful. I also want to mention Howard McGillin's "No Moon". This little song from "Titanic" is just so moving. Pulled out of context, it becomes a little jewel of metaphor.

The CD as a whole is beautifully recorded, with an intimacy and clarity that makes you feel like you're in the first row of a very small theatre. If you come across this and you're on the fence, take a chance. I bet that you'll be as pleasantly surprised and deeply moved as I've been.

3 out of 5 stars What!? How is this possible?.......2007-01-20

How could one put together a Maury Yeston Songbook cd without a track from Andrea Marcovicci? He wrote a song cycle for her. Granted there are some great singers here but a grave oversight to not include Ms Marcovicci.

5 out of 5 stars Beauty and grace, charm and wit - Maury's got it all.......2006-11-14

Maury Yeston may be musical theatre's unsung genius to the public at large, but I've heard his praises sung many times. A friend convinced me to buy the original Broadway cast of "Nine", and while there were some fantastic songs and an undeniable melodic gift throughout, it left me lukewarm. The same with "Grand Hotel". And I couldn't stand "Titanic" - too big, too self-important, too reliant on booming low brass and bombastic orchestral swells.

"Phantom" was the only one of his scores that touched something other than distanced admiration in me. It was everything Sir Lloyd Webber's popera travesty could never quite aspire to - epic yet human, beautiful and touching, with songs that showed actual details and emotions. So it was with that in mind that I purchased this, figuring that maybe Maury could prove me wrong, shorn from the restrictions of a book musical format.

And by God, did he prove me right and then some.

Maybe it's the singers. Maybe it's the perfect orchestrations. Maybe it's just the absence of a plot to follow. More than likely, it's all three, but this is one of the most gorgeous, enjoyable, heartbreaking albums I've ever purchased. Yeston has assembled an impressive cast to give voice to his music - such heavy Broadway hitters as Alice Ripley, Brent Barrett, Betty Buckley, Christine Ebersole and Howard McGillin mix with up-and-comers like Eden Espinosa, Sutton Foster, and Brian d'Arcy James. But the most impressive turns are given by people I'd never heard of before - Johnny Rodgers (who?) has a voice spun from gold, and he's absolutely perfect in "Danglin'", a simple and powerful song despite some odd lyric choices by Yeston. Likewise Philip Chaffin in "My True Love" and "I Am Longing", and Michael Holland displays a warm and untrained performance of "Another Day in the Modern World". These three men, who I'd never heard of before, absolutely stole the show. It doesn't hurt that they're given some of the best songs from the album.

Of course, the rest of the ensemble uniformly turns in worthwhile performances. The professionalism of Broadway is gloriously evident here, each singer making their song uniquely theirs. Brent Barrett made me hear "Only With You" as if for the first time. Betty Buckley is surprisingly vulnerable in "I Had A Dream About You". Alice Ripley is her usual bundle of raw emotion in "Please Let's Not Even Say Hello", and turns in a rare comic performance in "Call From The Vatican" to great effect (listen to that surprise high note near the end! Wow, Alice!). Christine Ebersole is heartbroken, elated, vulnerable, and tough all in the course of "Grandmother's Love Letters"' 4 minutes.

There are some weak spots - Eden Espinosa is mostly one-note during her song, and while it's certainly a high note, it's nothing you haven't heard her do better elsewhere. Laura Benanti's "Now and Then" goes by without much notice, which is a shame for this talented actress. And Betty Buckley goes back to her usual high-volume stridence in "Be On Your Own", which despite its chilling music deserves a more nuanced performance than Buckley gives here. But these songs would be standouts on any other album, and it's only the company they keep that prevent them from being excellent.

Oh, and "Unusual Way", possibly Yeston's best-known song, is so beautifully performed here by Brian d'Arcy James and a three-piece band that I nearly cried hearing it. And that's quite a feat for a song that I swore never to listen to again after the seventeenth girl in a day auditioned with it (badly). But the gender swap works perfectly, and d'Arcy James' golden Irish tenor swings through the music effortlessly.

As for the band - there are no missteps here. Each song is given exactly what it needs, from the Romantic-with-a-capital-R string section on "Home", to the jazzy saxophone on "Letter From the Vatican", to "Be On Your Own", which is given a Herrmann-esque string section. Some particular touches stand out - that lovely acoustic guitar on "Danglin'", the simple piano line on "Modern World", and the sublime cello/piano outro in "Unusual Way" really stuck with me after the album stopped playing. And the recording is without fault - crisp, encompassing, personable and expansive as the mood requires. The whole album sounds fantastic.

There is such a wide range of style and substance here that each song would deserve purchasing individually. As a collection? It's bliss. If you're a fan of theater music, appreciate great vocals, or just need something to keep you company on long nights, this is required purchase.

5 out of 5 stars A perfect marriage of music and lyrics.......2006-09-07

I think Yeston must be the most underrated talent in music theatre. And not just music theatre ... for as far as I know, "Danglin'" is not from a show - a jewel of a song ... and a disarmingly honest rendition from Johnny Rogers (what a beautiful voice! Why hasn't he made more CD's?) Some other favourites are "New Words" (not enough parent-child love songs out there ... and I can't imagine it could be sung any better than this), "You're there too" (with a charming and unexpected twist), "Simple" (Callaway is superb), "Only With You" (loveable rogue!) ... to name but a few. Inspired music theatre writing. A must for any musical buff, composer or singer seeking repertoire that will help them stand out from the crowd.

3 out of 5 stars The Maury Yeston Songbook.......2006-08-30

A good album sung by good singers. I have been an admirer of Maury Yeston for a number of years . I am a great fan of "Nine"
which I consider his best work.(If possible try to listen to the
Australian Cast Recording with John Diedrich) I enjoy listening to artists like Alice Ripley, Brent Barrett, Sutton Foster, and my very favourite singer Liz Callaway. All in all a great CD to just sit back ,relax and enjoy Les Breen

Erik Wollo's works are overlooked gems of modern instrumental music. From his home in Norway, Wollo's been sending out missives of mood and ambience since the mid-1980s with albums like Silver Beach and Solstice. Last year's U.S. release of Guitar Nova explored the acoustic-guitar side of this musician in multilayered, overdubbed soundscapes that retained the ambience and structure of his electronic works. With Wind Journey, he returns to synthesizers but keeps his electric guitar at hand for some gloriously heroic solos, especially on "Dream Line." A subtle, tugging ostinato pattern builds into layers of keyboard orchestrations topped by guitar, which starts out in a pastoral, acoustic mode but segues into a soaring lead solo that recalls Steve Hackett during his Spectral Mornings era. Wind Journey is centered by Seasons Suite, a 10-part sequence of moody vignettes. Erik Wollo's roots in progressive rock are clear and he uses them to articulate a cinematic music. While Wollo lives in a country with some of the most awe-inspiring landscapes in the world, he composes much of his music in a basement studio. The worlds he creates are strictly from the imagination, and what a vivid imagination it is. --John Diliberto

5 out of 5 stars Ambient music that takes me far, far away!.......2003-04-24

I have purchased cd in the summer of 2002. Back then, all I could think of doing was listen to 88.5 on the radio and hope that they will play music from Erik Wollo. The first song I heard was "Dream Lines". The music didn't seem familiar to me at first. I didn't consider it really ambient but it turned out that it was. After listening to it, I was into it very much. I never heard such a song played like that before and I knew it was something I would like. Wollo plays the guitar in a way that the sound echoes in my head and makes me feel like Im somewhere far and distant. In a short time, I heard "Wind Journey 1". That was amazing. After I listened to it few more times, I was into it so much that I couldn't help buying it from Amazon.com. Just about every beat and sound seems to echoe as if it was played outside where nothing surrounds you and where the music can travel and be heard. Listen to the samples and decide. Buying this cd is something to consider.

5 out of 5 stars What a surprise and completely different from the last CD.......2001-09-27

The last Eric Wollo CD featured wonderful virtuoso guitar, most closely akin to a "fingerpicking" style. Each piece was different, almost like a "best of" CD. This CD is completely different in that the artist uses the guitar as part of a series of thematic atmospheric tone poems based on the idea of wind and its forms and effects. The overall feel of the music is very ambient, with the guitar used less as a melody-maker, and more as a symphonic, electronic instrument, almost like a timescape. The orchestration includes atmospheric electronic soundscapes within which the artist creates mood music of the highest quality. I was absolutely fascinated by the CD on first hearing it, and it only gets better with each re-playing as I discover new nuances to the music. What a master of the guitar this man is. I highly recommend that you take a listen to this CD, and take a journey into the wind with Mr Wollo. This is a thinking person's delight!!!

4 out of 5 stars Deserved More Attention..........2006-02-24

I bought this CD the week that it came out, and prior to that, had purchased the single of "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah"! When I bought the CD, I quickly realized that two of the girls pictured on the CD were different than two that appeared in the video for "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" ....so, I looked back at the single cover, which had baby pictures of the girls, along with their names...the different names were Tia & Tamara... yes! I didn't realize it till later, but it was Tia & Tamara Mowry (of "Sister, Sister" fame) who were originally in this group with Monique and Arike. They also appeared in the video.

Years later, I met Tamara while working at a hotel in Los Angeles. I mentioned this to her, and she was stunned that I knew! She told me that she and Tia had only done the single, as they soon after got the series "Sister, Sister," and decided to go with that (not surprisingly)!

In any case, this peppy and eclectic album has a fine mixture of uptempo's and ballads. There's the moody ballad "Cloudy with a Chance of Tears" (a very minor chart hit). This ballad has lyrics of teenage-love and angst over it, set to a metaphor of the weather, but it is sung with the passion of someone much older! There's also the charming "Love Lives Right Next Door," that another reviewer mentioned. I always found this tune to be very touching also! And then there's the sprightly, funky "Library Card" (what a cute and clever metaphor for trying out a relationship! I wish this had been released as a single...I think it could've garnered some success). Additionally, "Always" is a very understated, yet very affecting, midtempo groove that has to be experienced. It combines influences of pop and UK-inspired house elements on a low key. And of course, "Yeah Yeah Yeah" is a classic love ballad, not really sounding like it's out of the 50's, but somehow giving that feel-good feeling of the doo-wop era with its rhythms and the girls' shining, love-powered vocals.

For any fans of solid, early-90's R&B, I highly recommend "Just the Beginning"!

I owned a copy of this album about a decade ago; and now, at age 22, I find myself rehearsing the same songs through my head. I have always loved this album, and I always will... That's why I've ordered it through Amazon's "Popular Music" @ a GREAT price!!

5 out of 5 stars Memories...........2005-07-20

This group will always be my favorite. This is their only album unfortunately. My favorite song is Love lives right next door, my sister and I would sing at the top of our lungs to it. They rock and I hope they do well in their lifetimes. I hear Lapetra is in Iraq... Keep your head up, girl. Latoya is supposedly married to at member of R&B group Levert. I have no info on Monique Wilson, but if anyone does they should e-mail it to me a [...]. Arike was in R&B group Before Dark which had mediocre success. Good luck ladies. I wish you could have been up there with Destiny's Child=( I will "always" be your number one fan!

5 out of 5 stars Rock The Polka Dots.......2004-05-23

Like my man said: "When rap was fun." If you like old school Rap, pick this up. This came out my freshman year in college, and it brings back tons of memories!

4 out of 5 stars The past remembered.......2000-11-23

I guess I had to write this review. Its strange, but I was speaking with two different friends a day apart from one another and in both conversations, Kwame came up and I wasn't the one who brought the name up. Even stranger I was driving home on the third night (11/22) and "Ownlee Eue" came on the radio.

As another reviewer has stated, this album came out when rap was fun. You can almost call Kwame a one hit wonder, but he has definitely left his mark. I rate this a classic.

3 out of 5 stars kwame fan to my heart.......2000-08-14

I thought kwame was a funny lookin and funny sounding fella but he could put out a jam that made you buy his albums. In this album he went with more singing but it was no doubt, call me crazy but this is an album with songs youll never forget. KWAME, If you are out there good luck with the career

2 out of 5 stars Very average at best but a fun era.......2000-03-10

Kwame was catchy but no special skills still it was a change of pace.he was Like WIll Smith but without all of the straight to Pop vibe.OwnLee eue was a catchy cut.this was when Rap was Fun.before all of the over the top Commerciallism and cheapness to Hype anybody.

2 out of 5 stars Ownlee Ueu and Oneovdabigboyz make it worth purchasing.......1999-11-18

Not the greatest album overall but with 2 outstanding dance tracks. It'll remind you that rap was once funky and funny without needing to be so hard. Kwame's delivery is like Special Ed's for those of you who remember...

5 out of 5 stars the best music ever.......2004-02-19

My daughter ( at age 17) bought this CD and played it at home. I instantly fell in love with the music. It is the most incredible music I have ever listened to. I put it on my computer so that every time I am on
-line I can listen to it.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest hits of classical music.......2001-08-13

The use of the words "from the Movies" in the title of this compilation is misleading. While there are a handful of titles that were great originals from movies (the Star Wars theme, for example), the majority of the music is simply great classical music that happened to show up in a movie. This technicality aside, the music was amazing. The clarinet concerto and the Puccini opera from "Witches of Eastwick" are two of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent collection of classic music from great movies.......2001-08-03

I belong to that camp of people who think that if Mozart was alive today he would be writing scores for theatrical films. The best thing about "Music From the Movies" is that it combines the use of classical music in movies, such as Wagner's "The Ride of the Valkyries" in "Apocalypse Now" and Puccini's "O Mio Babbino Caro" in "A Room With a View" with John Williams' "Main Title" from "Jurassic Park" and the "John Dunbar Theme" from John Barry's score for "Dances With Wolves." Unfortunately of the 33 tracks on this 2-disc set, only the last half-dozen or so are by contemporary composers. So the chief charm of this collection remains that it allows you to identify the classic music used in movies such as "Platoon," "A Clockwork Orange," "Wall Street," and "Kolya." Placido Domingo and Herbert Von Karajan are representative of the singers and conductors included in this collection, which is truly one of the better sets featuring classical music in the movies.

5 out of 5 stars This is nourishment for the soul!.......2001-06-04

I ordered this CD to get one piece of music only. What I received in reality was a compilation of masterpieces to refresh and enliven my very soul. The operatic selections are well known pieces performed by 'the great ones' (i.e Placido Domingo). Here you get the best of opera without having to endure what the uneducated would consider tendious. Additionally, I was surprised to discover how many movies themes were excerpts from the classics. This CD includes the name and movement of each selection, as well as the performer. It is a wonderful appetizer before investing in a full meal. I didn't begin with this intention, but now I want to hear complete pieces; anticipating a new excitment for many of the composers.
