good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27

We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.

This is a great CD for people who watch a lot of TV -especially TV LAND and reruns of old shows when shows had actual theme songs. I took the CD to work and everyone loved trying to figure out what show the songs were from.

Fabolous would have us believe he's serving up Street Dreams, but the Brooklyn rapper's sophomore effort is more likely to rock the party than shake the boulevards. The F.A.B.O.'s smooth, deadpan flow cruises over benignly commercial beats (courtesy of Clue, Just Blaze, and Kanye West, among others), and the overall effect isn't hard enough to stand up to "official" street-issue hip-hop (think 50 Cent Is the Future or any M.O.P. release). Sure, Fabolous is not without charm. His straightforward delivery of the never-too-deep subject matter enhances slinky, slangy club joints like the Track Masters-produced "Damn" and the R&B-inflected ballads "Can't Let You Go" and "Trade It All Part 2." The album also features solid guest appearances by Missy Elliott (the electro-funky "Sickalicious"), Mary J. Blige (a retooling of her classic "What's the 411" entitled "My Life"), and pop princess Ashanti ("Into You"), but the entire proceedings are stolen by the aforementioned M.O.P., whose verses on "Keepin' It Gangsta" illustrate what street is really all about. --Rebecca Levine

This is a great cd. From his 4 hit singles Can't Let You Go, This Is My Party, Into You, and Trade It All pt. 2. There could of been a couple of more too if u ask me. Forgive Me Father is a well put together song with crazy verses. Also the joint Throwback is a classic song for the sport fans. Fab went to the top floor on this one. He even had Snoop and Missy come through on this one. His name says it all. You should defiantely pick this one up if u havent already. Fab continues to make good music. Overall I give this album 4 bricketts.

Basically the problem with Fab is everything he's saying in this album you've already heard before because it's the same subjects from the last album. The production is the thing that makes the album worth buying. Fab does bring some hot punch lines to Street Dreams but that's about it. Either get this for cheap or burn a copy off one of your friends.

'Fab at his best'.......2006-01-04

Even eh said it. This is 'Fab at his best' and it's hard to disagree. This album has a range of songs from it's slower songs, it's club songs and it's gangsta tunes. When i first copped this album i listened 2 it constantly and it didn't dissapoint. There are few tracks that i skip but the ones i do are pretty weak. Thats why it get 4 stars. A very good album none the less and a worthy CD in my collection.

Proven........2005-09-05

With Street Dreams Fabolous has proven that he is a figure in the game and will be for a while. With the smashes "Cant Let You Go" and "Into You" will draw people to buy this album and I think once people do they will be a huge fan. The callos are great, most of them atleast and Fab kills it on almost very verse. Not his best work, but deserves 5 stars.

Street Dreams is my all time favorite album. Fabolous has ill lyrics, a dope flow, dope wordplay and a good delivery.

I will rate all of the tracks on this album now from 1 to 10. 1 being the lowest, 5 being satisfactory and 10 being the highest.

Not Give a **** is one of my favorite songs on the album. He lays down some very good rhymes.With lyrics like "These dudes dont stand a chance/When I pull up like the Pamper Brand/On Those Lambo Slants/....", I really thought the second verse was his best on this song.

Call Me is another good song. Who is featured on this song? Is it Ashanti? Whoever it is, she has a great voice. Fabolous spits lyrics like "Cause she's been lookin' for the kid like Bush was searchin for Bin Laden...". It's songs like this that make Fabolous my favorite rapper.

Can't Let You Go is my second favorite song. He has some dope lyrics backed up by a tremendous instrumental. I especially like the ending of this song. The video for this song was good too. I listen to this song all the time, my older brother also likes this song.

This is my Party is my favorite club banger. Once again, he lays down really good rhymes in the first verse, and the third verse. In my opinion, the second verse isn't so good.

Into You is my absolute favorite song ever. I love the video. I love the instrumental. Fabolous has dope lyrics on this song. Tamia is a really vocalist. Lines like "...with the blue so hard you think I was crippin'" really made this song good. The video is good. I hope that in the future, there will be more love songs like this and Can't Let You Go.

Overall, I think that this album is worth buying. I bought "Street Dreams" in 2005, which was a few years after it was released. I really regret buying the album now, because I love it, and I wanted to see the videos (Can't Let You Go, This is My Party, etc.) when they were on MTV and BET. Fortunately, I got to seethe videos this year on www.blastro.com. I hope Fabolous releases another album that is like this in the future. I give this album a 9/10. "Street Dreams" is one of the best albums I ever heard.

Trademark diversity in place, Patti Austin, vocalist extraordinaire starts set off with a generous re-thinking of the otherwise bland "The Look of Love". (Bacharach and David never had it soooo good!) She even helps breathe some life into the old standard "Street of Dreams", the title cut, but when "A Candle" (new song) takes off it is clear that we have yet another Patti Austin treat for the old mixed tape or CD burn. When Austin starts off singing: "...There's a sadness here inside my heart ..." we know it's "gonna be special". Singer, words, melody, and production are well-matched on this tune . . . music so so good . . . !

Her lovely serenading on "Someone To Watch Over Me" makes the listener sort'a long for an entire Austin-Gershwin recording, so sweet the marriage of melody, lyric, and voice.

Leave it to Austin to remind us so stylishly why "I Only Have Eyes For You" is a standard. Members of Colour Me Badd lend harmonies! Incredibly ROMANTIC; lush.

"For Once in My Life" takes on a new face with an uptempo, funky arrangment that soars into a scat menage sweeter than any so-called "jazz vocals" I've heard so far this year!

When Patti sings the much-recorded "Calling You", walls come down, curtains pull back, a new layer revealed . . . the desperation of the lyric becomes a siren song to lost loves.

Could "Waiting For You" be the singer's most subtly poignant vocals ever? "Beautiful" seems even an understatement when describing the wonders at work on this gem, and don't be fooled by the laid-back approach on Boz Scaggs' "Look What You've Done To Me". Several listens later you'll be getting something new from the song - just like this great Patti Austin album, which respects the old by blessing it ... anew!

I must admit, I wasn't ready for the interpretation(s) that are contained on this album. At first, I was a little disappointed, then I listened to the album again, and again. It was 18 years between "Every Home should have One" and "Street of Dreams". Ms. Austin still has it (in droves!). I must hand it to her, she handles the material very well! Four stars!!

Patti Houston is an angel in earthly disguise and certainly the CD "The Street of Dreams" is all about Patti Houston's inspiration from her mentor Ella Fitzgerald. Do not misunderstand me, I did not say that Patti Houston was imitating Ella, but what I did imply is that Ella and Patti have been blessed by the same spiritual muse, which is superbly done on the CD "The Street of Dreams". There is a pleasant and beautiful blend in Patti Houston's vocalization of the old and the new, but is the one original Patti Houston the muse of her own heart in singing vocalizations like
The Look of Love, Street of Dreams, til there was you, rain rain rain, performances done from the pure spirit of Patti Houston that wonderfully overpowers the listener with musical ecstasy. Spend the money on the album "The Street of Dreams" at any price, you will not regret it.

Recently had a yen for Patti Austin, who I just adore. I've had the great pleasure of seeing her live a couple of times in New York and she is definitely one of the most versatile (and underappreciated) secret weapons in the recording industry. This album is the usual hodge-podge from Austin, laden with songs and arrangements that are very uneven and not always worthy of her great stylistic gifts. But take a listen to her tasty poppish update of the Brasilian pop-jazz standard "The Look of Love," the swooning, swinging big-band version of "Street of Dreams" and then the lush, heartbreaking ballad "Waiting for You" and you'll realize what's so special about Patti Austin--why her fans are so faithful. You might not want to pay full price for this CD, but I'd say the three aforementioned tunes make it a worthwhile purchase.

I first bought this album on tape znd wore the tape to shreds. The Look of Love what a perfect rendition, its far better than the original. My Favorite is Calling You .... Patti Austin delivers everytime.. I probably need to purchase an extra copy of this as I know I will wear it out....Enjoy.....

Mixed Feelings.......2006-02-19

I bought this CD only last week and have listened to it 4 or 5 times. Just having gone through a phase of listening to guitar/organ combos, I bought this and Pat Martino's "El Hombre" the same day. So far, I prefer the Martino CD much more, but that's a little unfair, because that is more fiery and dynamic than this was ever supposed to be, and that has just happened to be my mood lately.
I think I like the idea of this recording better than the recording itself - so far. The instrumentation is superb - guitar/organ/drums, and one of my newest favorites, Bobby Hutcherson, on vibes. My problem is with Green himself. If this had been a Larry Young CD I would probably have had no problem with it...he's at the top of his form. It's not that Green doesn't carry the weight of the improvisations, but at times he sound a little uninspired - lines that abruptly end, note that he flubs. He almost sounds like he is "noodling" a bit at times, not quite sure of where he's going with a solo. Now I'd rather hear Grant Green noodle than many others on a good session, and I'm sure that this CD will grow on me with a few more listens ("Green Street" did just that), but that is just my initial observations. I hope I read my review a month from now and say "what the hell was I thinking?", which, if I know my listening relationship with Green's music, will surely be the case.
If this sounds a little too critical, it's not - I still like the song selection, the guitar tone, MOST of Green's playing, and the sound of the ensemble. A great, mellow album that perhaps in a less boisterous mood I'd give 5 stars. It is worth the investment.
Thanks - and don't overlook Martino's CD if the guitar/organ thing sounds appealing!

Velvety Tumescence .......2005-12-20

This is one of my top ten favorite jazz albums. It captures a certain feel of West Coast Cool. It's mellow music but there is complexity and brilliance to Green's guitar work that gives the music an intricacy and vigor worth listening to over and over again. Smooth but not flaccid. But this album would be an important part of your jazz collection even without appreciating the cryptic subtleties that lend it weight. It works just as well on a simpler level, purely on it's charming, hypnotic sound. Green's guitar solos float buoyantly over the smooth sounds of Larry Young's organ work, accented by Bobby Hutcherson's vibes and an appropriately restrained Elvin Jones on drums. Don't believe me? It's rare to find such a beautiful blending of instruments. Musicians complimenting each other with such generosity of spirit and such clarity of sound and vision, it will shame away every negative emotion tucked away in your subconscious. It's like a colonic hydrotherapy for the soul, but without the risks of intestinal perforations and flash edema. Less invasive too, wouldn't you say? For best results, go get a deep tissue massage, then rush immediately to your local osteopath for some vigorous thoracic and lumbar adjustments. Then, drive home, take just a pinch of Xanax and a baby dose of chloral hydrate. Take a hot shower, pour yourself a tall Tanqueray on the rocks, and put the album on. Dim the lights. Fire up a lava lamp if you've got one. If you must smoke, I would go with a light Maryland pipe tobacco, unsweetened, mixed with just a smidgen of smoky Cyprian latakia. Please do not operate heavy machinery while listening to this music.

Still Listening After 30 Years.......2005-02-14

I bought this on vinyl in the 1970s and recently on CD. A magic musical session. All musicians at the top of their game. Plus, I love the lineup: guitar, organ, vibes, drums. Great. My only regret is that there weren't any more cuts from this session in the can. Sigh!

True Jazz from True Jazz Artists.......2003-07-03

This album is one of my favorites because the band gels so nicely. Often times, you can set up the best musician at each spot and have absolutely no chemistry. In this case however, the best at each spot have tremendous chemistry. Green of course holds his own, but especially when he plays with Larry Young. "Somewhere in the Night" lets us hear Young's chords and tri-tones in a subtle setting, but it exemplifies his one-of-kind style and greatness. Jones doesn't need to do much but keep the rythym, which he always does very well. Hutcherson on the vibes...this guy kills. He adds a unique touch to these standards of which we are not accustomed to hearing with vibes included. But, it works...making this an excellent album, especially when you just wanna kick back and really enjoy and admire some real jazz.

Brooklyn's own, Fabolous, return with album number three with the mix tape More Street Dreams, Pt. 2: The Mixtape for where he left off with the both street and mainstream appealing songs. As most mix tapes the artist flows over previously released songs or instrumentals. The album begins with "N***az" featuring Paul Cain & Joe Budden team up for the more hardcore aspect of this LP. "Now What" is where Fab spits a verse displaying verbal skills in comparison to other emcees / rappers. The edge between songs on "Rims Skit" to "Now Ride" where he speaks of both riding with the top down and riding on enemies. Emphasizing on the last syllable was impressive and how he matched each word on each key for the chorus made "Think Y'all Know" easily recognizable. "Make U Mine" featuring Mike Shorey was interrupted with by feature as the duo shared microphone time with unbalanced results. For the commercial / mainstream aspect, "Faboloso" short one verse didn't do this album any justice. One of the strongest tunes found on More Street Dreams is "Fire Remix - Joe Budden" with its upbeat drum track. "Renegade" featuring Paul Cain is a good display of the two emcees without any hook or chorus that deserved collaboration as found on "F You Too". He represents
Brooklyn well on "B.K. Style" describing the mentality and the different projects at the conclusion. Most of the songs only contains one verse and the others are just simply too short. Overall this is a good release for the fans in between albums.

8. Faboloso - 3/5 - Sampled instrumental, the original is "Who's That" by R. Kelly. It's only about a minute long, that's why I gave it a 3.
9. Fire [Remix] - 4/5 - Dope song. Features Joe Budden and Paul Cain. It's a remix to the original "Fire" by Joe Budden. Love the chorus.
10. I Usually Don't - 3.5/5 - Another song I don't like too much.
11. Renegade - Another sampled instrumental, the original by Jay- Z (same exact song name) featuring Eminem. This song, I think it features Paul Cain and Joe Budden. Anyways, it's a dope song. If you like this one, check out the original version.
12. F You Too - 2/5 - Another song I don't like too much.
13. B.K. Style - 5/5 - Samples Lil' Kim's "This Is Who I Am", B.K. Style is one of the best songs on this album. Fabolous spits crazy punchlines like "The way I pass the rock can make Jason Kidd a fan of me".
14. Can't Let You Go [Remix] - 4/5 - Produced by Just Blaze, this song is supposed to be a club banger. First time I purchased this album, I thought that the remix of "Can't Let You Go" was going to be another love-like song about cheating. I don't like the idea that Just Blaze made this more of a club banger than it is a cheating song, but it's still a pretty ill song.

I really don't like "More Street Dreams, Pt. 2: The Mixtape". I think that "Street Dreams" is a way better album. Better songs, better lyrics, better collaborations and better instrumentals. Anyways, this is still a pretty good album, but I think that Fab could have done a better job.

3.5 star Mixtape.......2004-11-20

Fabolous returns with his 3rd "Album" in as many years. Although it is a mixtape and only has 12 "songs" it is pretty good. Half of the beats are from other artists songs even though they aren't credited. Feature Paul Cain, Joe Budden, Mike Shorey. Has about 4 skippable tracks (I skip numbers 5-8) but the others are real good, but no classics. Fans of his should get it other wise just download the 6 or 7 songs that are worth it.

A Great modern Jazz album- Beautiful & Timeless.......2007-04-13

Lyle Mays compositions are absolutely fabulous all albums are great.
The 2 first albums are similar in character and influence very beautiful modern jazz compositions. Lyle is supported playing with the greatest musicians. The other 2 more recent albums are quite different, yet very impressive work, in particular the "Fictionary".

Mixed bag.......2004-12-28

Speaking as someone who loves the Pat Metheny Group and Lyle Mays' playing in general, I'd have to say that this CD is a mixed bag. Some might find it a bit cheesy or trite. But when Lyle gets into his serious soloing he really shines. Sometimes sounds like he doesn't know exactly what he's trying to do - he tries to mix different jazz idioms - big band, electronic, fusion, etc., with occassional success. I would recommend his first album over this, but this one is a good "minor" addition to any Metheny/Mays collection.

Thought, mood and emotion provoking.......2004-10-14

Years ago, I walked into a music store wanting to stock up on a few items. The man behind the counter placed this blue and red bubbly looking album cover on the playing now stand and what happened stopped me dead in my tracks. Suddenly, the most beautiful music started filling the store and I stood in a stunned silence, seduced by one of the most beautiful songs, ever composed; "Before you Go." I then bought Street Dreams and Lyle Mayes, two albums I never tire of. Over the years they evolved to tapes and then to CDs. But I must say that Street Dreams, particularly the previously mentioned cut and the title suite, "Street Dreams," are stellar. I had a wonderful moment when I played "Street Dreams" at the Stroke of Midnight On New Years about 10 years ago. My friends, even the ones not into jazz, LOVED it. To this day, I love this entire album, because it truly takes me to another place

Brilliant ,but .........approach .....with..... Caution.......2004-04-27

I am a long time fan of Pat Metheny,and very well aware of Lyle Mays contribution to the style and success of PMG.I even had Lyle's first self titled album,so I thought I had some idea of what I was in for,in buying Street Dreams.Not so.I did not like it one little bit.I wondered what the hell it was that I had gone and bought.The most bizzare,off the wall,eccentric,and intensely dark album I'd ever heard.I played it 1,2,3,4,times,and no joy. It didn't click.
That was some 15yrs ago,oddly enough,I still have this album,and even more oddly,I love this album.It has grown on me over the years.Very Steely Dan'ish,with a whip-cracking horn section,and an absolutely stunning Chamber orchestra,with a very dark,other worldly,urban atmosphere to it.
Favourite tracks,well,Possible Straight with the "New York" sounding horn section takes the cake,as does track 10 from the Street Dreams title suite,the most spooky,evocative tune I have ever heard,with a "spine chilling,hairs stand on end, give you goose bumps" bass clarinet solo....Yikes!!!!!Give you the absolute shivers!!!
This is NOT a party , warm summer's day type album.You've really got to be in the mood for it,and you've really got to sit and listen, because there is just so much to it.Jam packed with brilliant musicianship,instrumentation,and arranging,and intriguing songs.
This is an album with a lot to offer if one is willing to take the risk and time.
I quietly, and hesitantly,....er...um....well.....recommend it.

The title of this review says it all. I enjoy most of Lyles'material and, for that matter, Pat Metheny but on this occasion I think that Lyle must have had a bad hair day, should have stayed in bed etc. You might like the album and that's great but it did nothing for me.

Wildest Dreams is John Berry's first album since 1996's Faces, which failed to go gold despite a No. 1 country single, "She's Taken a Shine." He's got a new label, Lyric Street, and a new producer, Mark Spiro, best known for his work with Lila McCann. Fortunately, Berry's soaring tenor voice is intact. Unfortunately, his choice of material still has more in common with Christopher Cross and Phil Collins (whose "You'll Be in My Heart" receives a typically schmaltzy cover here) than with anything identifiable as country music. A tender song like "Where Would I Be" would fit right in on soft-pop or contemporary-Christian radio. But the country single "Power Windows" attempts to dress up a hopelessly contrived lyric with weightless '70s rock guitars. --Rick Mitchell

NOT WORTH THE WAIT!.......2000-05-27

I have been a fan of John Berry for years, before he was well known. His incredible tenor powered his first albums, 'John Berry', 'Saddle the Wind' (without a doubt, the very best) and 'Things are Not the Same'. These albums are superior because of their purity - mostly acoustic guitar, great piano, and John singing his heart out. 'Live My Dreams' on Saddle the Wind is the best song he's EVER done. 'Standing on the Edge' and 'Faces' are equally excellent, with John's fabulous voice the main focus. However, in Wildest Dreams his singing is second only to Mark 'bigmouth' Spiro. Mark and the overbearing background singers seem to be trying to drown him out, and in most tracks, succeed. John seems to be holding back; a real disappointment for us long-time fans. The only song that comes close to the 'old' John is Love is For Giving. Even that song has too much of the loud 'listen to me, not John' background singers. I'll keep playing all the albums before this one and hear the REAL John Berry at his finest. I just hope his next album is worthy of his talent.

I was a little hesitant to purchase this CD after being disappointed with the Faces Album. The Wildest Dreams CD is great to listen to. It is a lot of the John Berry I so love to listen too! What a great voice!

A Nice Change of Pace for Mr. Berry.......2000-02-06

Blessed with one of country's best male voices, John delivers a powerful and diverse collection with "Wildest Dreams." Some of his diehard "country" fans may be disappointed with some of his material, but it's a great set, highlighted by his version of "You're the Voice." Nice to see John try and become a little more diverse in his material!

I have been a devoted John Berry fan for many years and was looking forward to a new release from him. Imagine my dissapointement when I heard Wildest Dreams. He seems to be holding back and we hear too much Mark Spiro. Is this a duet CD? I guess Standing On The Edge and Faces spoiled me.

Perhaps the best harmonizing of the 1940s--and what music!.......2006-06-15

The Pied Pipers were one of the very few truly great harmonizing groups of the 1940s. The group consisted of the great Jo Stafford and three other men including, at various times, Billy Wilson, Chuck Yokum and Hal Hopper. They worked with the greatest solo vocalists and musicians of their time including Tommy Dorsey, Johnny Mercer, Connie Haines and even Frank Sinatra.

The songs on this rich two CD set are enchanting to listen to and they harmonize so well! I was thrilled to listen to it. This is also a two CD set which gives you a total of fifty (yes, fifty) songs the group produced so it's a very thorough retrospective.

The sound is very good, even on a portable CD player; there is little if any of the original hisses and pops that must have been on their 78 rpm records of the day. Tall Order Mastering did a great job of digital processing on these two CDs!

There is a wide variety of songs here, too. There's the romantic slow ballad by Gershwin entitled "Embraceable You," and there are silly songs as well including "Mairzy Doats." I particularly liked "Embraceable You," "Jamboree Jones," "Old Man River," "On The Sunny Side Of The Street" and "The Trolley Song." It's also fantastic that the two CD set includes The Pied Pipers singing with Frank Sinatra on songs like "You Might Have Belonged To Another" and "Let's Get Away From It All." Who could ask for anything more? SMILES

The liner notes include a nice picture on the front of the quartet vocalizing and there is an extensive essay about the history of the group by Ossie Dales.

I highly recommend this two CD set for fans of classic pop vocals, fans of The Pied Pipers (obviously), and even fans of the great vocalists like Frank Sinatra as well. It's a good value at the price because you get two CDs for your money and the sound quality is excellent. Who says older music has faded away? I sure don't! SMILES

BEWARE OF THE "AFTER DINNER" SCENARIO.......2002-01-30

I read the previous listener review and was curious to check out this music as I had honestly never before seen this album. The review had me interested but cautious because of some of the word choices and phrases used to describe the mood created. In addition, songs like "Classical Gas" didn't seem like "snuggling" music to me. I chose to check out an online site that has 30 second clips per song to review the music prior to buying this cd -- I'm glad that I did.

This is not Barry White music. It has no smoky, sultry sound. Not the gentle, emotional guitar touch that Chet is capable of. (If you're looking for that I might recommend "Sails" or either of the Chester and Lester CD's--although none of these are quite "snuggling" music either) You would have to enjoy "Swanee River", "The Streak" or maybe "Convoy" as lovemaking accompaniment to consider this music as "lower the lights after dinner and snuggle" music. This could only be romantic music for people who like feather boa laden women calling them "Big Boy" in a nasal tone -- GOT THE PICTURE? Again, CLASSICAL GAS? Electronic sounding drums. Bad, shrilly 80's sounding keyboard tone. Mood Music? I don't think so. It's more reminiscent of grammar school kids marching to an assembly.

I felt compelled to steer away those of you who might, like me, have been searching out that warm, soothing music that we think might exist out there but that we're unaware of. Needless to say, this is not that album. If you want that sultry, subtle, warm, non-generic smooth jazz sound I might recommend Earl Klugh "Late Night Guitar"(nylon string guitar with soft string accompaniment, some light percussion) or Ben Webster "Jazz 'Round Midnight"(Tenor sax with soft piano, some very light drums). I think you will be real happy with these albums for that after dinner mood music, or with a nice candle lit dinner, for that matter.

No feather boas. No Ray Stevens.

Of all the cd's of Chets I possess, this one moves the listener closer to what orchestration does for mood music. Simple with subliminal runs that slows the conversation at any gathering with its movement from power to soft strains that moves your pulse. My wife, when feeling unusually 'sensitive', slips it on while 'putting on the silk', if you get my drift.... A mans music that women tune in to.
