Behind Sharissa's preternatural platinum wig lurks a natural woman. This Bronx bombshell has that rare combination of talent and naked emotion that no amount of peroxide can neutralize--the same blend of street-corner soul that has made Mary J. Blige so compelling, regardless of hairstyle. On No Half Steppin' Sharissa struts all over traditional R&B territory with both sass and class; on the title track, her manifesto, she makes it clear that she doesn't take no mess, especially from spineless suitors. The CD continues with more declarations of independent womanhood and indictments of trifling men, intoned in Sharissa's warm alto over spare, snare-based beats. While she's certainly had her share of hard times, right now this woman's on top. --Cristina Restrepo

3 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars.......2006-12-09

It seems as though every album that I think is at least decent, there are numerous people who think the album is just trash. (I still don't understand why people didn't like Truth Hurts' album.) Sharissa's debut is not that bad at all. The skits do not need to be on here, and there are two or three filler/mediocre songs on here... but the rest is quality. I wish she would put the ghetto queen persona away, though. Record companies should learn by now that when it comes to a female R&B singer, the parental advisory label drives the potential fan base away rather than attracting them. I would recommend buying this, probably used, though.

I think that Sharissa's CD was great for her first time. Of course, the Cd has a few cuts that I am not totally feeling. However, I have not listened to anyones CD and loved every song. I think with the right marketing she could have been the next Mary J. Blige. As a matter of fact, when I first heard the CD someone had it on "bootlegg" I immediately went out and purchased the CD for my own collection.I bragged on this CD so much that I let someone borrow it and they have not returned it therefore, I am going to purchase this CD again.

3 out of 5 stars Not as bad as everyone says...........2004-10-19

If anyone can write a review, I know I can...I'm the type to give anyone a chance and will actually write something unbiased and not too objective. After reading some of the reviews made me reluctant to listen to this album, I did anyway.

Some of you may remember Sharissa from the group 4Kast, who had a minor hit back in '98 with the song "Miss My Lovin'" (grab that album, it's not bad at all). She had a few leads, and after hearing that album I figured that it's about time she did something on her own!

Some of the songs on this album are actually pretty good. The first single, "Any Other Night", has that bassy beat that makes you bob your head, and Sharissa actually gives you emotion on this song. "No Half Steppin'", the second single, is a tight catchy song. "If you're gonna love me, love me all the way, completely." That's what I am talking about!! She brings it with this song. "All These Years" has that Mary J. Blige feeling, and definitely could have been released as a single. The chorus' harmonies in this song are so tight and sound so precise that I was just like wow. "I'm Waiting" is a nice bluesy song that really just flows along nicely with some good vocals from Sharissa. "Over A Man" is a good song with a tight beat that will make you say damn!

I think the problem with this album is that there is no new material. After hearing the first three songs, you want to hear some songs with a different subject matter other than drama with her man. Come on girl! Also, some of the songs just make you say ugh. "I Can't Wait" sounds really forced and something from the 70s. I was like, what? I couldn't get into "Put Down That Phone" even after a few listens. and "Do We Really" would have been a lot better if the vocals didn't sound so lazy and uninspiring. Plus, what's up with all the cursing in the "Argument" skit? In the couple of interviews that Sharissa did, she seemed sort of innocent but sort of ghetto as well. Here, it just sound unrealistic as if she is reading from a script or something.

With better material and a couple of guest stars, Sharissa could actually be a force. Here, she is just given what seems like someone else's material. Hopefully, we will get the real Sharissa....not the half steppin' this album did.

3 out of 5 stars A NOTEWORTHY DEBUT FROM THIS SISTA..................2004-08-24

this was actually a good album. she sings and her alto voice is really sultry and her songs are real.Thats another reason i like this album...she curses and says what she has to say and some people dont liek it because they say shes ghetto and all that but it is a good cd...and she can sing..

BEST SONGS:

**All These Years
**Any Other Night
**Dun Put Up To Long
**I Cant Wait
**Thug Love
**Over A MAn

After all it wasnt a very very very good debut but it was enough to get her some shine even though she should have gotten a little more than she did. This is just the debut and the second album is coming up in due time..maybe this time we can see her a little bit more and she will get osme actual spotlight.....

5 out of 5 stars READ THIS BEFORE DECIDING!.......2002-08-10

Ok after seeing Sharissa's first video for her song "Any other Night", I thought she would just be another "ghetto" girl singing regular stuff. HOWEVER, my sister got the cd and I listened to it and her music IS HOT. She has a lovely voice; a great range- sounds like real soulful artist. Her songs are written beautifully and is just perfect for her. Despite that one song, all of the others surpass that one. I love this cd and have been playing it virtually nonstop since I got it. So please buy this cd and support this great, great artist.
Thanks!
