Necessary cd to add to your Curtis collection!.......2005-05-06
Curtis changing things up.......2004-05-02
'Got To Find A Way' was a quick follow up to the previous albums lukewarm response. However its pretty much on the same level. Less orchestration & dramatics, more guitar-based work. Its all okay, pretty cool, but wheres all that crazy fonk & fire Curtis had in his artillery only a year or two previously? 'Mothers Son' is the jam here, and the other songs are cool, but it all just sounds a bit flat by his previous standards.
Curtis got back on track with his next few albums musically, but he never made it back to being a major player on the charts. This album is worth checking out only if you have most of my mans 70s back catalogue & are still fiending for some more.

Early seventy's funky stuff !!!.......2002-06-06
Underapreciated.......2001-02-23
Like 'Sweet Exorcist', the album is brought to life by a jubilant re-write of 'Love Me (right in the pocket)', originally recorded by Mayfield's first group the Impressions. The record's momentum in hindered slightly by overlong cuts such as this opening track and the title tune, but overall songwriting exellence is conveyed successfully and convincingly by Curtis (as always). Another similarity to the aformentioned 'Sweet Exorcist' is the expanded role of keyboards (namely Hammond Organ and electric piano) on many cuts, adding new colour to the tried and tested formula of guitar-heavy rhthym section accompanied by strings/and horns.
Like 'Sweet Exorcist', this albums is vastly underrated although perhaps not essential to casual fans, I would therefore suggest the Sequel 'Double' series that adds 'Got to Find A Way' to 'Curtis' (his debut), and 'Sweet Exorcist' to 'Roots', both for the price of one album apiece.
