Like rapper DMX, Ja Rule's scratchy vocal delivery is an acquired taste. But given the success of his Lil' Mo-aided hits "Put It on Me" and "I Cry," it's no surprise that his third album follows the same formula as its predecessor, as midtempo grooves mix with thugged-out beats and rhymes. On "Lost Little Girl," a coming-of-age tale that charts the struggles of an urban hottie, Rule's gift for storytelling shines bright. While "I'm Real (Murder Remix)," featuring Jennifer Lopez, is almost worth the purchase price alone, one must conclude that Rule is best appreciated in small doses. On "So Much Pain" Rule apes 2Pac's flow, rhyme patterns, and introspection to an annoying T. Likewise, "Down Ass Bitch" sadly sounds like another thematic take-off on Apache's "Gangsta Bitch" anthem. At least "Livin' It Up" doesn't bastardize Stevie Wonder's gem "Do I Do" too much, and the beats cooked up on "Pain Is Love" and the guitar-fuelled "Always on Time" saves this release from losing all of those cool points he's earned for being a great writer. This one's strictly for the Ja Rule-initiated. --Dalton Higgins

pain is pain.......2006-12-11
This man has been accused of ripping off 2pac,and its a fair shout to be bluntly honest. They are both similair in rhymestyle,in lyrics,in the fashion stakes,in image etc etc, except pac did it so much better. The music adopts the same formula throughout, rap a few bars then an r and b chorus x 3 to fade. There are 1 or 2 bright moments but as im writing this ive forgotten them already.Pain is excruiciating.Im not a ja hater, infact i thought his first cd showed promise but if you want an example of a crossover cock up congratulations you've found it
Ja Rule - Pain Is Love.......2006-10-19
After Ja Rule burst out onto the rap scene in the '99 with his debut album, "Venni Vetti Vecci," the streets were heating up thinking he was the best new cat out of New York. But after his disasterous follow-up, "Rule 3:36," almost all hope was lost considering that almost the whole album was filled with pop-rap. Now another years goes by and another album from Ja gets released, this time with "Pain Is Love." Can Ja bring it back to the grimey street style of his first album or will this be another bow to his rap career?

"Pain Is Love" is a border-line positive effort from Ja Rule. He didn't change much since his last album, on some tracks he's actually gotten worse. There's way too much singing and pop style songs, I don't see how most of this got past the production stage. Anyway there are some good tracks though, Ja kept it street on some tracks but not many. Check it out if you like what's on the radio, Ja Rule, Ashanti or Murder Inc, if not this one's not for you.
Let There Be Ja Rule!.......2006-07-09
I never liked Ja Rule's rap, until this album surfaced. This album can be played from beginning to end, no skipping required. It's Explosive! The best album I have purchased since Chronic 2001...Give this man his props, this album was worth all the money I put into it, and then some!
Pain is when he keeps making albums, love is when he quits the game.......2006-06-09
Ja do you hate me? I sure hate you. I can tell you hate me amongst many others in the world because you keep making these wack pop songs and have the nerve to call it hip hop. This kat is so commercial i wouldn't even consider it rap let alone hip hop. Boycott this clown and support real emcees like krs one, immortal technique, and one be lo.
good cd.......2006-01-19
I see people hating on this cd. Granted this cd is mostly pop-rap love ballads but I like the sound of this cd. This is the only Ja Rule cd that caught my attention and that I own. I love the track with 2Pac.

Peace And Hair Grease.......2006-02-17
Lost Boyz second and last release prior to the death of member Freaky Tah, Love, Peace & Nappiness' lead singles took us on familiar ground with the group, but overall was a whole different experience. "Summer Time" is the lead song for this album that was a good example of the group's signature style of music. Continuing with the mainstream sound, "Me & My Crazy World" produced by DJ Ron G is about being in love with two women. For a more lyrical, darker experience, "Beasts From The East" featuring A+, Redman & Canibus takes the group to unfamiliar heights that continue with "My Crew" featuring A+ & Canibus. The slow sample of the title track solidified a position for the Boyz with a feel good mainstream song. "So Love" is about the feeling within a relationship over R&B harmonies. Continuing with their up-beat formula of a gritty type bounce groove, "What's Wrong" they admit "...we can do this all night..." with "Certain Things We Do" following the direction and aim. Freaky Tah flows solo on "Get Your Hustle On" with his raspy voice added to the album's versatility. The story line on "Tight Situations" was narrated well by Mr. Cheeks as the horn section made the flow more intense. The album's elevation declines as the remainder of Love, Peace & Nappiness was more or less the love and peace of the album.
Its sad to me.......2005-11-26
Because my boy Freeky Tah had gotten killed but on this album he is showing out, good beats good lyrics and Tah R.I.P.!!!!!!!!
Lost Boyz- Love, Peace & Nappiness.......2005-07-13
The Lost Boyz (Mr. Cheeks, Freaky Tah, Pretty Lou and Spigg Nice) second album "Love, Peace & Nappiness" (1997) is a solid release. LB starts the album off strong with their own version of "Summer Time". They follow it up with the exceptional Ron G produced "Me and My Crazy World" a track about being in love with two women. Mr. Cheeks then collabs with Canibus, A+ and Redman on the raw "Beasts From the East". The title track "Love, Peace and Nappiness" feat. King Keiwanee & Da Blak Pharoah is something special, an upbeat LB anthem. Another track for the ladies follows in the laidback "So Love". A+ and Canibus make another appearance on "My Crew", then Cheeks and Tah drop some decent tracks in "What's Wrong" and "Certain Things We Do". Mr. Cheeks recalls growing up on "Games" feat. Luv Bug Starski. Freaky Tah rhymes with a deep flow on "Get Your Hustle On". "Tight Situations" has LB & Queens Most Wanted telling a thugged out story of a jack. The Lost Boyz provide another outstanding track on the Bink Dawg produced "From My Family To Yours" (Dedication) feat. Queens Most Wanted, LB puts mad heart into this cut while remembering the deaths of Pac, BIG and friends. The Lost Boyz provided a memorable album with "Love, Peace & Nappiness", one which I recommend for the collection.
Real ..........2002-09-17
When I chill out and blow some smoke into the air, I play my LOST BOYZ cd's and I'm telling you it's lovely. LOST BOYZ are some original catz. They keep to themselves, never cross each others boundaries and keep it real. I respect their group to the fullest. To listen to their music is to know them and what they represent. All I can say is, their talented brotha's and their music is off the chain!!!!
No Happiness just Nappiness.......2001-10-30
I gave this album only four stars because I know personally there was a lot of tension building up while recording this album and had it not been there (the tension) this album would have been off the hook.

Average MC at best.......2007-07-20
This CD is average at best. I wouldn't recommend it to the average hip-hop fan as I feel the CD is lacking in the beats compartment, as well as overall quality, and lyrical flow in general. It you want to listen to quality christian rap I would recommend that you look at the 1-1-6 clique's 13 letters CD, Lecrae, Flame, Trip Lee, or Da TRUTH. As all of these rappers really bring it and in my mind are comparable to the top secular rappers today. So my advice would be to not waste your money on this CD go out and buy a Cross Movement or Reach Records CD which is christian rap at its best.
One of the BEST Christian rap albums..........2007-03-23
I was very surprised by the quailty this CD was made with. The production was top notch. This is one of those CDs you can listen straight through without skipping songs. I listen to other good Christian rappers like Lecrae, Trip Lee, T-dot, Flame, but this CD tops all those. I'm going to have to say this is my new favorite rap CD.
Great Gospel rap.......2006-12-11
I just bought this cd on Friday and i must say it is by far one of the best gospel albums i have ever heard. Pettidee's rhymes and beats are raw and i can easily compare him to secular rap artists like David Banner,Trick Daddy, or Bun B. I love all the tracks but especially #1 and #7. Go cop this album!
Thug Love.......2006-11-13
Thug love is a very hot track. I myself am a christian rap artist so real recognize real. I am a very big fan of his and he his very good. His beats are hot lyrics are cold so u put them together u got a storm. I guarentee this is a good product.
sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-10-12

D's bad when it come to good street rap.......2000-10-14
This Cd is actually not too shabs. I went to school in Mo and no one had ever heard any h-town street rap. I introduced them w/ this, street military, 20-life, and esg and they could could'nt believe their ears. They began to learn what h-town was alla bout and were wishing they could find this s!!t. I had to bring them up copies for the holidays cuz they didn't know where to look. the songs that beat are All Out Stacking, Gulf Coast Southern Style, and Ghetto Destiny. This is for real so check it out, you WILL dig this sound.

good Stuff.......2004-07-03
This cd came out of no where for me. This cd is really good. It has a down south feel to it. I dont know much about boo but I think he is in concentration camp. The best song to me is #10.
Rocognize a real G when u hear one.......2003-07-14
I think the album is tight! Straight up! To respond to the other comments: Interscope would have never signed him if he was garbage:HELLO! You have to understand real music when you hear it and know that all music is not commercial. If you want to hear about real struggles of a hustler laced with a tight track then you will buy all his albums. But if dont really know rap then stick to the radio because you would never understand BOO. Keep it 100 if you gonna rate music!
Don't Waste Your Money.......2003-04-10
This Cd is horrible. I bought it just to get a background kind of a feel about this artist along with the new cd. It is a bad cd. Not one track caught me, the production sounds homemade, and overall it is garbage. The new cd is also. You would think that since he is on interscope (a major label) that it would sound better but it doesn't! Don't waste your time and money on this cd!
Don't Waste Your Money.......2003-04-10
I bought this cd to get some history behind him along with the new cd. It is horrible. The beats sound homemade, all his lyrics soung alike, and it basically is bad. I also got the new cd and you would think that because he is signed to interscope(a major label) that it would be better ,but think again. It is also bad. Although I am not from MS, I recommend that you buy the new MS artist David Banner. He is a million times better than this guy!
