A greatest-hits package sampling four Enigma discs released between 1990 and 2000, LSD splendidly documents the influential output of Michael Cretu, a techno-bohemian who successfully creates cinematic, otherworldly New Age-like musical suites. Now, more than a decade removed from the arrival of Sadeness (Part 1) and its eyebrow-raising mix of sacred and sensual subplots, people can debate whether Cretu's music represents savvy commercial calculation or satisfying art. LSD suggests a split decision, though tracks with intriguing blends of atmosphere and rhythm, such as "Gravity of Love," "T.N.T. for the Brain" and "Morphing Thru Time," reveal an inventiveness that demonstrates Cretu is capable of more than sophisticated novelty tunes. Two new songs, neither especially noteworthy, open this package. Meanwhile, remastered older tracks segue beautifully to exude a satisfying, seamless unity. Big bonus: run time exceeds 76 minutes. --Terry Wood

Sounds A Bit Like M E H D I.......2007-07-26
Oh, Wow! This is a cd that will be liked by all who enjoy M E H D I, Delerium or even E N Y A. It is the very essence of good new age. So smooth, yet so spirited, this music is a refreshing break from my well-worn collection, I just keep wanting to listen to it over and over again. I am amazed! It reminds me somewhat of Enigma's older works, but still very unique. This is music to the soul. Absolutely relaxing, as well.
ALSO RECOMMENDED: M E H D I ~ Instrumental Paradise Volume 8 ..A True Gem, JUST GO LISTEN TO THE SAMPLES !
My first exposure to Enigma will not be my last.......2007-07-02
I ignored the numerous suggestions to buy Enigma til I found LSD in a used record store. The price was good and I figured I had nothing to lose. Wow--did I get a good deal! The CD is amazing, the music's varied and I get a good taste of what I should have bought long ago. I really can't add more to the excellent reviews already in place, but if you love world and fusion type music, you need to give this CD a try--and yes, it's worth full price.
Gravity of Love.......2007-07-01
Ruth Ann is the lead vocal for Gravity of Love. It's a gorgeous song! This whole album is worth adding to your music collection. It is a must have. Check out Michael Cretu's (Enigma) latest production, What About Us, Ruth Ann's first solo album. It is exclusively sold on itunes. You don't need an ipod to get itunes. Change the setting to MP3! Get Ruth Ann!
I love every bit of it!.......2007-06-09
Just an awesome album that I will recommend, any day any time!
One of the most devoted artists in the field.......2007-05-17
I wrote this three and a half years ago as a 15 year old on a different amazon profile that i am deleting. here is my two cents. I didn't realize then since I was a very naive boy, but the acronym for the title of this album is (and not accidently) LSD. Yes, this album is sonic Lysergic Acid. Or THC, you pick.
Spirituality enhancing music has never been as entrancing and alluring in the history of music. Never have I been so at one and felt so at home with music as I have been with this lush comilation of Enigma's Phase One (first four albums) greatest hits. Almost all of Michael Cretu's music should be on this cd because his music is so inspiring...it takes you on a mind altering journey through sound from which you may wish never to return, simply because of its fresh, pure musical taste.
Many of the tracks that made it on this cd are there because they were on the top of the charts. Not all of them are necesarily his absolute best...I wish songs like "Between Mind and Heart" and "Callas Went Away" were here, but the exclusion of those songs doesn't deteriorate the value. Even if Curly M.C. wanted to put more tracks on his Greatest Hits, he would have had to opt for a second disc because....theres already 74 minutes of pure heaven on the single disc. Anyway, explaining M.C.'s unique vision of music is next to impossible to explain; the songs are a mix of rhythmic beats, breathy vocals, synthed orchestration, and mystical lyrics, which are refrences to the Bible in some parts. Sampling the music is the only way to discover the beauty. Languages include Latin, French, and English. The quality of the synthesized sounds sound like they could have been made yesterday, which is an example of the talent and effort put into every Enigma cd.
Now I may sound like a paid advertiser for Enigma, but I am in reality a very down to earth guy. So I tell it like it is. This review is no exeption. The samples so kindly provided by Amazon above are not the best...M.C. likes to launch each of his cds with slow orchestrations, and then he picks up the pace with the third track. Really, only allowing thirty seconds of sampling doesn't quite do the cd justice. To become absorbed into a piece, you have to listen to the whole thing.
please, dont illegally download music if you do....it hurts the artist from which you are stealing.

Groundbreaking Album & Still Relevant.......2007-04-17
It is amazing to listen to this album from 1993 and see how truly current it still is....this album features every dimension of the Depeche Mode sound, from haunting orchestrations to soul-searching lyrics and vocals to straight forward modern music with catchy beats & melodies....
In a time where every so-called artist sounds the same and is manufactured for quick release at your local Wal-Mart or other big box, bands like Depeche Mode stand as a lone voice in the wilderness of so much crap. People think they know "modern/alternative music"? HA! Depeche Mode invented it and they continue to re-invent....Songs of Faith and Devotion is a classic....best tracks include "Walking in My Shoes", "In Your Room", "Get Right With Me", "One Caress", etc....
Possibly the best DM?.......2007-03-18
I think so. Perhaps it is because I prefer their rock/rock acoustic side in comparison with their pure new wave sounds, still, even some of their hardcore fans recognise SOFAD as Depeche Mode's most interesting/ intriguing work.
The album contains some of their best songs and my personal favourites, such as 'I feel you', 'Walking in my shoes' and, undoubtedly, 'In Your Room' (by the way, guys, where was 'In Your Room' in your Best Of? - oh well, it was volume I, I hope it will be included in vol. II maybe?). Its dark ambience and melancholic tunes (I would say melancholic rather than depressing)are almost hypnotizing, and David Gahan's voice suits this album more than any other.
Even if you are not familiar with DM's work, this is a great chance to discover them - a much better opportunity than their Best Of - Vol. 1 release. This album is good even for an agnostic atheist like myself.
An audio journey into new lands of spirituality and darkness.......2007-02-21
A bold - and to many listeners, shocking - venture into the transition of musical frontiers, from a band already renowned for a seemingly very different genre, Depeche Mode's Songs of Faith and Devotion hit the music world like a proverbial earthquake upon its initial release in 1993.
Some fans rejoiced, others fulminated, and many more were for the most part just plain confused, as the line between the band's former (and considered to be, signature) style of music and that of more traditional rock seemed to blur for a moment.
To say, however, that Songs of Faith and Devotion is simply Depeche Mode's experimental crossover into a more rock-oriented genre would be both an injustice and an understatement. At closer listening, one begins to realize that this album is not about Depeche Mode becoming a rock group; rather, it is about the band's artistic journey into new lands of spirituality and darkness, touching upon subjects of a more noetic nature than those in previous albums, and with a greater depth and emotion than is found on the songs of most other albums.
Amongst the very best of SOFAD:
In Your Room (one of the greatest songs ever recorded)
Walking in My Shoes
Higher Love
Mercy in You
One Caress
Judas
This album is, in my opinion, one of the 3 greatest ever done by Depeche Mode - along with Violator and Black Celebration.
SOFAD is an audio journey most definitely worth taking - and returning to time and again, no doubt.
Yes, this one's great too........2006-12-09
I tend to find that the people who don't like "Songs of Faith and Devotion" are in two categories: Electronic purists who are so set in their ways that DM doing a guitar based album is a travesty (although hints started with "Black Celebration"), people wrongfully accusing it as an attempt to stay relevant (followed "Violator" and most of these are songs that Pearl Jam and the likes never have & never will make). But beyond that, there isn't one single bad song on "SoFaD." It may take awhile to digest it though, I'll admit. It took awhile for me to get used to the "noir-gospel" of "Condemnation," but I now really love that song. The lyrics are not really embarassing, and "I Feel You" is one of Depeche Mode's greatest songs ever (that says a lot!). Another classic is the six-and-a-half minute "In Your Room." Martin Gore sings on a couple of slower-toned, orchestral tracks like the dark yet beautiful "Judas" and string-heavy "One Caress." Sure, the single version of "Walking in My Shoes" is better than the one on here, but that doesn't make this "not worth owning." Not only this, every song still sounds like Depeche Mode. The songs I didn't mention are still wonderful too, and I particularly like the punch of "Get Right with Me" and the pseudo-industrial "Rush." Gore is usually great when he writes the type of dark lyrics on this album, part of its greatness.
In short: It's worth owning because it's a wonderful band at a creative peak, it's cheap, and even if the cover art is lackluster the music will help you overlook that (but I think that's why some people presumptively dismiss & mock the album). Hey, the first two albums have my favorite cover art and are my least favorites that the group did.
Mercy in You.......2006-12-07
This album is excellent, lots of good reviews so mine will be about one song from the album, Mercy in You. This song for me, has been what DM has meant to me over the years.
I would lose my way again
Be led hopelessly astray again
Just so I could pray again
For the mercy in you
These words are such a strong statement to do wrong, to do bad, if only for the forgiveness that is offered, to return again. This has been for me a taunting of religion, of sin and how foolish and at the same time rewarding the whole process is. Alot of events in the lives of DM happened after this album and Ultra was released with the abscense of Wilder.

Album Description
For 20 years, the African Children's Choir has astounded audiences everywhere with not only their beatiful sounds and moving stories but with the power and energy that accompanies each song. This album is a tribute to the Lord, source of all power and energy. The Choir shares special worship times prior to each concert. Gathering their hearts, their voices and their hands, the children come together to focus on the Lord who brings them together, to pray for their performance and the public that waits beyond the curtain. "Devotion" now presents the essence of these worship times to the world.

Next best thing to being there.......2007-07-11
I purchased this CD after a concert by the African Children's Choir. It is a wonderful sampling of their music and energy. Familiar Christian songs with an African flair...and the devotion of children.
Great Buy!.......2007-05-28
I love this CD! The children's voices are so sweet and innocent. Some of the songs are sung in their native language which I think is really neat.
African Children's Choir.......2006-03-09
I rarely buy any music other than male gospel quartets. I wanted a couple of African Children's Choir cds for a banquet. The music is SUPERB! You can feel the joy in the kids voices! They are HAPPY when they sing. I'm sure I will purchase anything they put out!

awesome, very erotic music, if your into erotic music, danceing or techno, then this is for you.
Like 4 tracks-buy it for iTunes.......2007-01-17
Warning. This is not a new CD like Amazon is misrepresenting here(December 26, 2006). If you look at all the reviews they go back to July 1, 2002.
Now, I would only recommend this CD if you are using Apple iTunes and can delete songs. Rip the CD to iTunes using the AIFF setting. That's non-compressed. Remember, compressed music is destroyed music. Also never download music as that is super compressed. Always buy CD's. But, if your reading this on Amazon, you probably already know this piece of wisdom.
Now, in my opinion much of this CD just doesnt work. The beats are to fast for the Enigma vibe, and there's a lot of cheese going on as well. Also, some of the dance music beats sound dated from 5 years ago.
That being said, there are a few tracks worth buying this CD for, and adding to your iTunes.
Return of innocence (380 Midnight Mix) is super hot, I would buy this CD for that one track alone. Also TNT for the brain (Midnight Man Mix), Mea Culpa (Fading Shades Mix), Principles of Lust (Everlasting Lust Mix) are good.
So I like 4 tracks, delete the rest.
Better than ever...ENIGMA's "Love Sensuality Devotion: The Remix Collection .......2007-01-15
So it's 1990-something and I'm 20-something...and life is good. I'm crankin up the stereo to Enigma's Sadeness Pt. 1 from MCMXC a.D., or I'm dancin' to Return To Innocence from The Cross of Changes at my favorite club. Now, fast forward to today: I'm 30-something, and life is STILL good. I may not be dancing the night away at the clubs, but I'm still crankin' up the stereo because Sadeness Pt. 1 AND Return To Innocence have been revamped. Enigma's U.S. release of Love Sensuality Devotion: The Remix Collection makes me think about my old special friend in a fresh, new way. In this new release, the voice of Enigma is BACK with a vengeance.
Good evening, this is the voice of Enigma. Feel your body start to move slowly. Let the rhythm be your guiding light." Intro from "Turn Around, Northern Lights Club Mix" - Love Sensuality Devotion: The Remix Collection (2006).
In this nine track compilation, there is a little something for everyone - Enigma fans past and present. There is a nice mixture of electronica meeting trip hop for those who rave the night away to good music. "Turn Around" has a great beat with synthesizer effects that also gives an ambient, new age edge for those who just wish to relax and meditate. For me, the artistry behind the music of Enigma is still very much a mystery, but one thing is for certain: the fact that they have consistently turned out great beats is NOT a mystery. This album is a collection of greatest hits with the remixes of signature songs like "Age Of Loneliness," "Principles Of Lust," and "Mea Culpa" that I find is easy to listen to whether I'm chilling, working, driving, dancing around my house...it is music that fits in with everything and transcends time with its fresh approach.
This is an essential Enigma collection with reworkings of all their greatest stuff. It's fantastic to listen to and to dance to. I have no "Sadeness" for buying this album.

Customer Reviews:
The day the Guitar Gods walked the Earth.......2007-07-15
This is the go to CD for students of Jazz Rock fusion. These are the men who started it all. When this music was recorded Guitar Gods truly walked the Earth. With a little help from Larry Young and Billy Cobham, Carlos and Mahavishnu blast off and take you on a musical ride that is out of this world.
Blew My mind at Age 12.......2007-06-26
I bought this LP in 1973 when I was 12 years old. None of my friends understood it, and quite honestly I didn't either, except that it took me to a different place musically and spiritually. I had no idea at the time that this piece of music was a tribute to John Coltrane. All I know is that the guitar work, the organ, and percussion were and still are overwhelmingly powerful. By the way -- I was listening to The Carpenters just prior to purchasing the LP so many years ago. If you are Santana or McLaughlin fan, and want to appreciate a soaring and scorching musical triumph, then you must include this masterwork. This album along with Jeff Beck's "Blow By Blow" prepared my ears and soul for a lifetime of jazz appreciation. Make some tea, put on some earphones, crank the volume, and make sure that you are not operating heavy or dangerous machinery.
A spiritual immersion.......2007-01-10
Under the influence of John Coltrane and Sri Chinmoy, John McLaughlin and Carlos Santana get a hair cut, and join force in a great guitar summit album delivering fantastic Jazz Rock music.
With both artists trademark guitar sounds and without out of control egos, Santana and McLaughlin are on fire, with unbelievable energy and remarkable arrhythmic placement of each musical note and in every track. The result is a masterpiece musical work.
This is a CD every McLaughlin and Santana fan must own, that goes the same for any Jazz Rock Lover.
If you like this album you surely want to check out the following 2 releases for Santana:
Caravanserai: 5 Stars
Illuminations: 5 Stars
Spiritual music.......2006-12-20
Warning to fans of classic Santana: this might be a little too jazzy for you. If you can't stand Caravanserai then avoid Love Devotion Surrender.
I totally understand how confusing this cd must have been to Santana's fans when it first came out. And I'm sure that I would have thrown this in the dumpster if I would have owned it as a teenager. But as I get a little older I have the patience to really give something like this a chance.
And once I gave it a chance the reward was amazing.
Kudos to Santana for veering from pop stardom..........2006-09-18
... to give us this creative and beautiful interpretation of Coltrane's "A Love Supreme" with guitars instead of saxophone!
McLaughlin was already known as a jazz guitarist who ventured into rock territory - kudos to him for that, too! - and Santana was a rock guitarist venturing into jazz territory.
If you like MUSIC, you will appreciate this album by two of the world's most accomplished and unique guitarists.
Maybe not a GREAT album, but certainly one worth listening to, and especially if you are a Santana or McLaughlin fan.
I remember when this came out and although I liked it, it was way beyond my scope. Now I can appreciate it and it is even more remarkable for the time in which it was made.

Continuing in the same stylistic vein of their previous Adoration release, the Newsboys lift up yet more praise and worship in Devotion. It might be the band's most pared down effort to date, as many of the tracks are nothing more than simple four-bar rock. But while some may fret over this, no worries. Frontman Peter Furler co-wrote many of the tracks with famed songwriter-producer Steve Taylor and well-known worship leader Tim Hughes. The result is beautifully simplistic songs that focus strongly on lyrical content like the dynamic dedication of "Devotion" and "I Love Your Ways" and deep and thoughtful "The Orphan" and "Landslide of Love." For highlights there's even a guest vocal effort from fellow Aussie Rebecca St. James on "Blessed Be Your Name" and fans can't escape the radio-friendly "Presence (My Heart's Desire). Altogether, Bryan Oleson and Furler's guitars along with the driving bass lines of Phil Joel have never sounded more like U2 circa Joshua Tree. But there is enough ingenuity and Newsboys pop sensibility to escape any critical cry of plagiarism. Sixteen years running, Newsboys continue to reinvent themselves in a fresh and delightful way, never forgetting the passion that stirs their souls. --Michael Lyttle

Words do not compare..........2007-07-26
I love the Newsboys music a lot. You can tell they are true believers and that they serve the one true God!!!
What sets this one apart from any of their past albums is that this one doesn't have a single bit of silly in it... not that there's anything wrong with that. I'm personally very silly, but all ten songs totally touch the heart of every lover of Christ. This album is an entire worship set!!!
Simple words do not campare with the Spirit behind each and every one of the songs on this CD... buy it!!!
A solid set of inspiration.......2007-04-25
I bought my first Newsboys CD many years ago, based mostly on the fact that Steve Taylor wrote much of it and produced it (Take Me To Your Leader). In the intervening years, I admitedly lost touch. That is until I heard their version of "Blessed Be Your Name". Perhaps it was by chance or by Grand design...
Nevertheless, in the few times I've listened to it since buying it, I must say it's one of my favorites.
Many of the reviews here are true; don't listen to critics. Anyone can sit back and detract. But it takes the serious listener to absorb the words and works in this CD.
Steve Taylor (I Want to Be a Clone) is still here, but that's no longer the primary reason I love this CD. It's all about the message. Just ask my six-year-old daughter. She is a fan, and not just of the band.
Pick it up and put it in your basket.
AWESOME and inspiring.......2007-04-10
This album is uplifting without being "preachy". Each song holds its own with a contemporary sound/beat. A good variety of fun, soulfulness and inspiration. Wonderful to listen to from beginning to end!
Devotion.......2007-01-11
This is one of the best CDs they've made. It's got the best songs. Anbody would love it!
sing-able.......2006-12-20
A Newsboys worship album is not a Picasso. It is not abstract and perplexing. Music lovers who want profound mystery and enigmatic musical arrangements need look elsewhere.
An album like DEVOTION is first of all intended to be *singable* if it is to provide words and a voice to Christian worshippers. From this angle, the Newsboys and DEVOTION excel.
The title track expresses a familiar biblical sentiment to which the apostle Paul might have happily given assent:
all my world
all I've lost
the wrecks I've made here
the lives it cost
Your hand restores
Your works make whole
with all my soul
I thank You
I owe You
all my
CHORUS:
devotion
all that I have to give
here's my devotion
You're all that it means to live
Those who hanker after hymns will not get much satisfaction here. But if they linger long enough to absorb the lyrics in spite of a preference for a different musical dynamic, they might well come away feeling that these Aussies have captured, recorded, and - most importantly - passed on a medium of worship that in its own way discovers an ancient and faithful word and sings it out loud in service of the neighbor.
That at least is the perception of this appreciative reviewer who has perhaps been more palpably stirred by other Newsboys albums but who finds in DEVOTION grist for a communal exaltation of the Creator and Redeemer.
'I Love Your Ways' is practically Psalmic in its insistence that the Lord's *ways* are - may one say it in this way? - adore-able?
The same can be said of 'Strong Tower', an eminently replicable tune. Clearly, the boys have had their Hebrew Bible off the shelf:
strong and mighty
strong to save us
like a fortress
never failing
strong in battle
strong in kindness
when we stray, Lord
You're strong to find us
when the winds come hard against us
You are steadfast, You are true
when the ground beneath us trembles
Your foundation never moves
CHORUS
strong tower
high and glorious
strong tower
mighty in love
our refuge
our defender
strong tower
Lord above
strong to lead us
through the shadows
strong to carry
all our sorrows
when the enemy surrounds us
closing in as darkness falls
though his armies rage against us
they can never scale these walls
Nor do DEVOTION's lyrics fail what one might call the 'centrifugal test'. Both 'God of All Nations' - with raucous delight - and 'Blessed Be Your Name' - more contemplatively, focus worship horizontally on the ethnic horizons of biblical faith and vertically, on the blessing of the Lord that is not dependent on personal prosperity or well-being. 'You give and take away // Still I will say ...' is, after all, a decidedly theological reflex.
Not bad twenty-first hymnology, if you ask me.
Not complex. Not enigmatic. Just intelligent praise your mind can embrace and your voice can sing.

For nine of this compilation's 15 tracks, Devotion dips into two of Yanni's quieter recordings, 1992's Dare to Dream and 1993's delicate In My Time. Those selections, intermingled with an assortment of the keyboardist's more dynamic works ("Santorini," the ubiquitous "Within Attraction"), create a generally satisfying survey of Yanni's first seven albums. (Niki Nana and Optimystique are not represented here, which is a plus.) The claim, as stated on the CD's packaging, that this is the best of Yanni is a stretch, but the package does offer a decent overview of his work, with a tilt toward his gentler side. "The End of August" and "Marching Season" are presented as performed in concert at the Acropolis. --Terry Wood

Nice Contrast to a Turbulent World.......2004-07-09
This music sooths, when most of the world is loud. It heals when much of our environment is harmful. Creative music, very inventive! Another five star CD from our friend Yanni!!
my best rating ever - 54 THUMBS UP!.......2003-01-08
I have been an avid Yanni fan since I first became old enough to listen to music. I must say though, this CD is by far the most awe inspiring collection of musical brilliance I have ever encountered! I own at least three copies of each of his CD's, and eight copies of DEVOTION: THE BEST OF YANNI. Listening to Yanni's music has really put things into perspective for me, and has improved my life holistically! I recommend this CD for anyone who has ears!
A dose for the soul.......2001-08-15
Simply as that, it makes my soul smile. I just love it. It uplifts my spirit when I hear it. Yey Yanni!
A lot of duplication here.......2001-08-15
First, as the staff reviewer pointed out, six cuts come from the same album, "Dare To Dream". And then, the later "The Very Best of Yanni", has six cuts that this album has. Mathematically, we're talking about 2/5 of the CD being "Dare To Dream", and 2/5 being "The Very Best of Yanni." Since two of the dupes between the "best" albums come from "Dare To Dream", this means 2/3 of the CD is on one of the two other albums.
Yet, the remaining five do work to give this album a mellower and more classical seeming sound than the "Very Best"..."Within Attrcation" is bombastic with less piano work. The other four are much stronger on the piano and are more dreamy, sensitive and evocative. "Song of Antartica" has some of the ethereal quality that "Aria" has. "Reflections of Passion" is, to me, the deepest and most moving of the five and one of the real standouts of the entire compilation, with truly passionate piano. "To Take...To Hold" is ultimately sensive and evocative, while "Only A Memory" is dreamy.
So what you have here is a compilation which has to have a lot of familiarity to it due to the duplication, and yet has a romantic, passionate voice of its own.

Good metal isn't just for Scandinavians.......2007-07-18
If you want to easily check out what this band has to offer, head over to youtube and find the video for the song "Lies that Bind." Metal videos can be notoriously bad, but this one is fantastic and showcases not only the best song on this album, but probably the best song that Daylight Dies has ever written.
I first heard Daylight Dies a few years ago, hearing a track from their first album, the 2002 release "No Reply." At the time, I didn't really peg them as anything special, but looking back, the pieces were all there. They just needed a little refining and some better production, and on "Dismantling Devotion," they get it and then some. I'm not sure what they did for those four years, but man has it has ever paid off. Great solos, killer riffs, progressive songwriting, melody and emotion - this album has it all.
This is very solid album, easily one of the best metal albums of 2006, and Daylight Dies surely belong among the best American metal bands today. I can't wait to hear their next one.
Melodic, Ethereal and beautiful...while retaining extreme dark power metal.......2007-07-17
This band is definitely worth checking out if you like instrumental, progressive style metal, as well as doom, death or goth metal. I know, with all the different characterizations and styles of "METAL" labels that are thrown about in today's music market, one needs a dictionary to track them all down. This is not repetitive thrash or speeding 18 minute crescendos, so I just hope that description helps for any people who are just hearing about this band.
Vocals: A nice mix is found here, we have the growl style for sure, but on songs like "Dead Air" for instance, we get a mix up of style in that area as well as some nice backing vocals here and there. Although the "growl" style of vocals (also attributed to Progressive Sludge Metal) is never my favorite, this vocalist does a great job of coming through in more of a clean style that fits well with the music, as opposed to some guy who sounds like he gargled sandpaper all day before settling into a two hour set of screaming words into a microphone that nobody can understand.
The structure and overall production of this album are excellent, and I can tell these guys put a lot of effort into this recording. Each song has a lot of strength and there is not one on here that sounds like some haphazard filler. What I also like about it is that it is not repetitive or formulaic, it strikes me as different and the varying tempos and rhythms make it much more enjoyable than again...some guy who gargled sandpaper screaming for two hours backed by frenzied 18 minute solos that go nowhere.
The first track, an instrumental titled "Life Less Lived" has some haunting synth on it and a beautiful instrumental section that carries dark emotion with it all the way through. If this track doesn't get one hooked to check out the rest, I don't know what will. Overall a superb album and I cannot wait to check out their 2002 release titled "No Reply" as soon as I can.
Compelling, Beautiful, Atmospheric Metal.......2007-07-09
One of the best new American death/doom metal bands out there, these guys came out of nowhere and have become one of my favorite new bands....playing a very dense, melodic, and melancholy brand of metal similiar in style to Opeth or Katatonia, Daylight Dies nonetheless inject a fresh and hypnotic density to their material that manages to make them sound like something new altogether.
Probably taking notes from Opeth, "Dismantling Devotion" is a dense, layered, and superbly produced epic of an album. The band alternates heavy, throbbing repetitive rifs and death metal vocals against beautiful ethereal classically-influenced clean tone guitar arrangements and guitar-driven harmonies and soft, lush vocals to great effect. Dark, foreboding and mournful lyrics accompany the music perfectly. Very compelling, mesmerizing and addictive stuff. I can't recommend this enough for fans of the genre, and can't wait to hear a new album.
A Leap Forward For Metal!.......2007-03-24
I can't tell you how much this album had impacted my life. Yet another band that made a big difference in my life. Daylight Dies is purely dark, melancholic and beauty at the same time. The music crafted is extremely touching to my soul. I listen over and over and over again every single day. For the first time in my life I have found another band that had helped me in my time of need. The mixture of clean and harsh vocals adds to the overall sound of the band and gave it a dark evil gothic tone. I am currently in search of dark gothic metal music because of what I am going thru in my life. Dark and evil cultures gives me the power and strength to live my life stronger than ever. In addition to the vocals the composition and song writing from both guitar player for this incredible album instills the listener with enormous amount of emotions. I am an emotional person so this affected me tremendously in my daily life. I just don't know how they came up with such a melodic and yet melancholic guitar melodies. It sticks in my head and soul and gave me a boost everytime the songs are played. Daylight Dies is my savior!
american metal.......2007-01-17
