Great CD.......2007-03-09
Wish I could have been at this concert live! Very good contep. Christian Music!Hope to hear more music like this.
Singable? Worship+Able.......2006-06-18
This is a good CD and I've often seen people comment on how "canned" and "unsingable" a a CD set might be but it shouldn't apply to this great compilation.
This is a very good CD with excellent worship songs. They can be sung and enjoyed alone in the car or in the corporate worship setting. Many of them are in use in churches around the country for times of corporate worship.
There isn't a bad song on this CD and I love the few that I find like that. Usually you buy a CD for one or two songs and ignore the others. Not so with how great is our god. Enjoy every song and sing away!
Conference Memories.......2006-06-10
I think what many people do not understand about this CD, as well as Sacred Revolution, is that they are live recordings from conferences such as OneDay and Passion. The songs on these CDs are mere snippets from the over-all experience of each conference. To me, they serve as reminders of the conferences & bring back memories of what I learned & experienced there (which, at a Passion conference is always profound & challenging). Unlike at a concert, where the focus is on the music & audience enjoyment, the songs at a Passion conference specifically coincide with what is happening, either the message that was just given, or perhaps the focus of the moment (missions, prayer, adoration, a specific verse etc). The CDs contain the "most memorable" songs & moments for those who participated, which probably doesn't necessarily resonate with those who weren't there. The artists on the CD all have their own albums, which are probably more representative of their musical abilities & are produced for a wider audience. If you haven't attended a Passion conference, you may not "get" this CD. So instead of complaining about this album, I'd recommend all the artists' individual projects: David Crowder Band, Chris Tomlin, Charlie Hall, Shane & Shane, Christy Nockels.
poor excuse for worship music.......2006-05-03
This is a pep rally on CD; an unsingable, emotionally charged pep rally. It really upsets me that this is the face of today's Christian music. The melodies are not easily singable at all, and the songs use all the same musical cliches. This is worship manipulation at it's best. If you read the words to learn something concrete about God, you will find nothing of substance. They talk about actions to give God and our response to God, but no meat-and-potatoes of WHY we should be doing this. God IS great, but WHY? This is VERY disturbing, and completely unacceptable for congregational worship.
Anointed music!.......2006-02-25
The one song that I love is "How Great Is Our God" and this group does it wonderfully. Very anointed!

Diego, hero of TV-watching 3-year-olds the world over, has so convincingly stolen the thunder of his adorably bob-haired cousin Dora that he's now upstaging her on actual stages: Go Diego Go LIVE!, the not-to-be-missed family extravaganza, piles on adventure and suspense for forward-thinking preschoolers and their parents, and its soundtrack effectively boils down the experience for repeat listenings. The song titles spell out the story--"Al Rescate, Amigos!," "Get Your Growl Back," "When We Get Down the River," and others hint at the irrepressible Diego's mission to return his jaguar's missing growl. The addition of crowd-pleasers like "Click!," taken from the TV series, and musical horizon-broadeners like "Conga!" and "Merengue!" make this soundtrack an all-around winner. --Tammy La Gorce

Great music for Diego Fans.......2007-07-17
This cd didn't disappoint. My daughter loves it to bits while my husband and i enjoy the good mix of music. It's a cd full of music which caters to the whole family.
Excellent CD.......2007-06-21
I attended the Go, Diego, Go Live! show and it was fantastic. I don't have any children of my own, but the show was great! I liked it so much, I bought the CD at the show ($15.00).
I love the music and singing so much, it never ceases to bring a smile to my face when I listen to it.
If you haven't seen the show you're missing something very special. You can still own the CD, which I highly recommend to all, from ages 5-80.
Not having this music in your collection, especially if you have children or grandchildren is a mistake.
Just like being there!.......2007-05-13
We took my daughter to see Diego Live for her third birthday and she loved it so much that when I saw the Diego Live cd was available I thought that she might like it also. Well she absolutely loves it! She asks us to play it all the time and she reenacts the show along with it. It's just like being there all over again. I would definitely recommend it.
Great CD!.......2007-03-29
The only thing that is a little strange is that the "Click" song on the CD is sung by a guy. For those who didn't attend the show - a note: This CD doesn't use the Diego-Jake T. Austin voice from the animated show. But my 3 year old didn't care. Adults should like the songs because they are set to really great music with good singers. If you attended the Go, Diego, Go Live! this soundtrack is a must!

When Live debuted in the mainstream in 1991, the band's earnest alt-rock effort Mental Jewelry balanced high-strung emotions with aggressive guitar work. On the band's fifth album, V, the earnestness has completely disappeared. Everything about this record feels forced and overproduced. Electronic beeps and loops swirl through songs like a U2 record gone bad. Guitar solos squeal in overarching metal-band style, and front man Ed Kowalczyk's vocals are so overdramatically pained, you can almost feel the veins popping off his neck for the most mundane subject matter. Even the band's use of Eastern influences feels slapped on, as in the intro to the nu-metal disaster "Like a Soldier." The guest appearance by Tricky--a partnership that only Kowalczyk's appearance on the last Tricky album can match in oddity--feels like nothing but a gimmick. What started out as a college rock act has sadly become just another attempt at grandiose sound with invisible substance. --Jennifer Maerz

Another one to throw in the trash.......2006-09-09
These guys are the biggest joke in rock music. All of these 5 star reviews are an even bigger joke. Ed Kowizsychik(SP) or however you want to spell it sounds as pathetic as he looks. This is garbage, plain & simple. Im glad radio is no longer saturated with their music. 20 years from now, no one will remember this group.
Horrific, terrible, a complete disappointment... what happened to a once great band?.......2006-05-20
Normally, I do not see the point of writing negative reviews. Check out my profile, I've very rarely written a negative review. "V" by Live deserves a negative review. This CD is horrific, terrible, and a complete and utter disappointment.
I consider myself one of the earliest fans of Live. I remember hearing "Mental Jewelry" back in early 1992 during my senior year of high school. "Mental Jewelry" is, in my opinion, as significant as Nirvana's "Nevermind" and Pearl Jam's "Ten". I believe it helped define that early-to-mid `90s grunge/alternative sound. It deserves five stars, easily. Too bad Live has slipped with every subsequent release. "Throwing Copper" was a terrific sophomore follow-up. However, I wouldn't give it five stars, maybe 4 or 4.5. "Secret Samadhi" and "The Distance to Here", Live's third and forth releases, were mediocre. There are some terrific songs, but some disappointing ones as well on each of these CDs. Each deserves three stars. Spot the trend?
Live hit the bottom with this one. In all honestly, I don't think there is a redeemable song on this entire CD. If I wanted to hear bad white-rap, I'd pick up a Vanilla Ice CD. Sure, "Overcome" seemed poignant right after September 11, but a few years later, even that song seems a bit contrived.
I can confidently say this will be the last Live CD that I will purchase. If you are new to Live, pick up their first release here on Amazon, "Mental Jewelry".
Underated Gem.......2006-05-01
I know this isn't a favourite among Live fans but it's my pick for their best.
I went through the whole Pre-Ordering thing when I heard about this ones release. Was very excited about it.
Bad points first:
At first listen there isn't much that stands out. I find with all their albums (Songs From Black Mountain most of all) that it takes several listens for the melodies to sink in. That said though, if you know how to take it, you'll give it time. Once you do, you'll be thankful.
I would also recommend ignoring the tracks OK? and People Like You which are two of the worst songs they've recorded. The rest though, is amazing.
1. The Intro is Ok if you let it be what is is - an intro. Perhaps not needed but they were trying something different.
2. Simple Creed is the lead off track and like all of their later albums, also the first single. Perhaps not a great choice as the single as it didn't perform that well and didn't give the album the needed airplay. Perhaps they were trying for something rocky knowing the two best radio songs (and actually the next two singles) on the album were ballards.
3. Deep Enough rocks nicely and like alot of the album has a different feel about it.
4. Like A Soldier is a favourite of mine. It was a single in Australia.
5. People Like You is terrible. Saved only by the fact they mention Queen.
6. Transmit You Love is a good ballard though perhaps filler material.
7. Forever May Not Be Long Enough is a great song. Lots of changes throughout and perhaps the catchiest song on first listen.
8. Call Me A Fool is beautiful.
9. Flow is a favourite. Simple really and rocks hard and is similar to their Throwing Copper style of repeating the same verse over and over.
10. The Ride is a lesser track and has them back to the Verse/Chorus Verse/Chorus stlye of Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi. Feels like it been done before. Still good though...
11. Nobody Knows is the best track from the album. I wanted it as my Wedding Waltz song but my wife didn't like the 'kiss my brains' line. I guess that kind of stands out a bit. Bit Wierd but I'm sure Ed knows what he's on about.
12. OK? is terrible. Should be a B side track, not amongst this greatness.
13. Overcome is wonderful. Perhaps hangs around too long at the end but is perhaps their best ballard after Nobody Knows and Turn My Head.
14. Hero Of Love wasn't a favourite to start with. I din't like how the chorus came in too heavy. Now though, it's one of my favourites. I love it and fell bad for thinking bad thoughts about it early on.
All in all this has a bit of everything. Though Throwing Copper has all the big singles and the hype, this album has the quality and variety the TC lacked.
LIVE; art and spirit uncompromising and hopeful!.......2006-04-12
'V', at first entitled 'Ecstatic Fanatic', is a departure for LIVE on the scale if, not the nature, of 'Secret Samadhi's melodic weirdness, though on the complete other end of the sonic spectrum. What ties them together is the ballsiness of such a change of pace, and the wonderfully experimental feel of both; a refusal to bow to the status quo and expectations of the business. Things like a duet with Tricky, an attempt to rap about spiritual love, and wonderful timing a la 'Throwing Copper' (with regard to 'Overcome', anyway) combine to make this an album that at first throws all expectations, and then without warning, begins to grow on you at an exponential rate. If you give it the second and third chance it deserves rather than tossing it aside after the first listen tells you this is FAR different from other LIVE offerings, this could become one of your favourite LIVE albums. Or at least it did for me; I listen to it when I want LIVE--high energy! LOL.
A lot of people (read: critics) slam the band for,(A) having an 'inconsistent recording history', or (B) being from the grunge era.
My rebuttal to (A) is: Too many folk in the music business can't seem to get past the biggest selling album disease; they compare all later efforts to the one that broke the charts. I personally wouldn't have remained a LIVE fan of this degree throughout the years if all they had done was release a 'Throwing Copper' clone every couple of years. I happen to LIKE the fact that LIVE gives the money-driven industry the finger and goes on growing and evolving--and letting their music evolve WITH their lives and ideas--without regard to trying to duplicate the public success of their best known effort. This rather punk ethos (for a solid rock band anyway) is called 'not pandering to the moneymen' and 'artistic integrity over public consumption'. The subsequent albums have sold well, though they haven't had the lucky timing that 'Throwing Copper' had to fit so well into what was happening in popular music at the time. Only jaded critics who care only about numbers would call these modest successes 'failures' only because they weren't 'Throwing Copper's with different covers. Far too many bands and artists have been murdered by their labels forcing or pressuring them to recycle, rerecord, and play the same stuff that won them accolades in their breakthrough efforts, regardless of whether they had since grown or changed; in the process losing that edge of anger or wonder or whatever it was that first captured the public imagination. LIVE has chosen to be comfortable with the fans that 'get' them rather than allowing someone to force them into an artistically stultifying mould for the sake of sales alone; this is called 'not selling out', and for that I applaud them.
As for (B): Though they happened to have emerged into the public eye in the same era as Nirvana and Pearl Jam, et al, LIVE never really fit the grunge model with anything but a tendency to ignore the interview and paparazzi angle of business (ie they refused to [...]themselves out to the media, instead preferring to concentrate on the MUSIC, shocking though that may be!), and a wonderful sort of ambivalent anger at the socio-religious status quo. This anger was the reason many folk loved 'Throwing Copper', and dislike later albums, in which the anger has faded to a message of Hope and Unconditonal Love. If consistent anger without growth is what these folk are looking for, then obviously a band that grows and changes is not for them. And for those who call lead singer Ed Kowalczyk a Kurt Cobain wannabe; they have obviously never listened for a moment to the lyrics and melodic spirit of his songs anyway.
Which brings me to another main criticism of LIVE. Some folk are turned off by the overt spirituality of Ed's lyrics, calling it 'preachy'. Critics also slam LIVE for their lyrics, saying "if we wanted preaching, we'd go to church". But EddieK is not preaching; he neverdoes. What he is doing is sharing the most intimate moments of his life: the moments when the Spirit touched him and made him whole; and in knowing how that feels, how uplifting it is in a moment of confusion, I find these lyrics inspiring.
As a long-term Live fan, I find them life-altering; and in fact, this fourth album, 'Distance to Here', quite literally saved my life. Many I've spoken to feel the same way; for though Live as a band name is hard to 'google', the FriendsofLive are out there and being uplifted daily by the work the band, and EddieK with his lyrics in particular, do. They make the world better just by being in it...and by being willing to SHARE! If communication and understanding can save the world, then Live are right on the avant guarde, with U2, the Indigo Girls, and a few others.
So all I can say for those critical minds who find Live's lyrics 'pretentious and sentimental' and 'drippy softcore preachery'... for them I can feel only pity, for as far as I am concerned, the message of Love is one for everyone, if we can but let it in. If the lyrics don't speak to these people, fine; but they do speak to some of us; so deeply that they bring tears to our eyes. So the fact that these critics are arrogant enough tell everyone they meet not to bother listening long enough to make their own decision/connection (or not) with the music, to me, is a sin. Just because they got nothing out of it, doesn't mean we are all alike...thank God! Yes, we are all different...but Love is Love.
Thank you EddieK and Live, for lifting me up.
Critically Panned...........2006-03-26
This album was almost universally panned by the critics. This just goes a long way toward showing how much critics know. This happens to any band that gets a little bored with the cookie cutter mold they have created for themselves and try to do something different from what the bourgeois establishment that the music business has become. This album is nothing less than pure brilliance. It does of course have its slightly cheesey moments, but when you do a 180º about-face from what you have been doing for a decade somethings are just not going to work as well as others. The only real failing of this album is in some of the lyrical content. Songs like "Transmit Your Love" and "Deep Enough" do not quite pack the intellectual punch that we true Live fans have come to expect from Eddy, but they are still fun and good to listen too. The best thing really is that Live, in doing something so different, did not lose that certian something that makes a Live song a Live song. In the end you yourself need to decide if this album is good or not. I give this album a full 5 stars.

Customer Reviews:
Mel at his very best.......2007-01-10
There are so many high points in a Mel Torme' performance, it is difficult to point out just a few. This recording captures Mel Torme' not only at the top of his game vocally, but in his ideal setting-LIVE. It is not the best quality recording on the planet, but the caliber of the musicianship here outweighs those considerations. For a collector-a must. For the casual Mel listener-a must. Just a remarkable performance in every way from one of the most talented performers/musicians that ever lived. A big statement-but in Mel's case, just the truth.
Perfect Pleasure.......2007-01-08
Imaginative and at times unbaerably cool, Mel Torme proves at this concert how great and creative artist he is. Using interesting material (not necessarily the best known songs from the great American songbook...) and a big band capable of following his fancifull and technically very strong and versatile vocal flights, Mel shines in the best light at this album.
A true jazz experience from seasoned singer, still at the very peak of his powers.
Superb Singer, Superb Entertainer!.......2002-10-28
A truly great singer who had a superb vocal range and extra ordinary breath control. Mel could really play to an audience and always (as on this cd) provided a wide range of material which included a variety of moods and tempos. Also he was a pretty good drummer as demonstrated on "Rockin' In Rhythm". I haven't heard anyone who could segue from one song to another as facilely as Mel ("Ridin' High" into "I'm Shootin' High").....or with as much humor ("I'll Remember April/I Concentrate On You"). I've never heard him fail to give credit to the accompanying musicians and he always keeps the audience informed of the music(listen to his intro on "I'm GonnaGo Fishin'").
If you dig a great vocalist.....and one who can scat with the best, this is a must!
Mel Torme: live, in a small club.... -Wow!.......2001-12-28
The greatest "missed opportunity" regret of my life, musically speaking, was missing a chance to see Mel and his band on a Canadian tour in the late '80s. I was booked to fly to Europe five days before he would play in my home city.
This CD gives a glimpse into the amazing experience of Mr. Torme in concert, even late in his life. This was recorded in NYC at a small club where Mel had an annual standing date with a big band. As it happens, this is the disc I had playing when I logged onto this site, and as I'm sitting here listening I had to write my endorsement. Quite simply, Mel Torme is arguably the most overlooked talent in Jazz singing, and compared to some of his contemporaries (Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Joe Williams) Mel's voice has aged amazingly; his voice is different than when he was 20, but I can't say it's diminished at all. This disc showcases his effortless phrasing, impeccable intonation and timing -a real vocal showcase! Listen as he perfectly scats a Charlie Parker solo on track 14! The song selections are summed up by the album title, but really are characteristic of a typical Torme live setlist: a mix of familiar and lesser-known songs by America's great composers.
One final detail to mention: the sonic quality of this disc is outstanding! It's on the Telarc label, noted for their quality recordings, and it really showcases what a good stereo system can do; there's a palpable sense of the recording venue, with a wide, deep soundstage and distinct imaging placement of the instruments.
vintage Torme.......1999-05-06
This is a very classy CD. Very smooth and listenable. Put this on along with other Torme CDs or some Julie London, Sarah Vaughn, maybe June Christie and pour yourself a double (Glenlivit or Crown Royal is my choice) , sit back in you favorite chair and let the music take you away.

ISSUE RESOLVED ON THE EUPHRATES.......2005-06-19
One question I might find among the more difficult in my life would be - which is my favourite Handel oratorio? I suspect that my answer would generally be 'the one I heard most recently', and that, as I write this, is Belshazzar. It is a magnificent thing, a heavenly thing. It has taken me longer than it should have to come to an appreciation of what makes Handel the phenomenon - as a genius, as an artist, as a craftsman - that he is, but I am comforted to reflect that no less a genius than Haydn, at the age of nearly 70 gaining a more thorough knowledge of Handel in performance, was driven to say that he felt a mere apprentice. In his sense of how to pace a dramatic narrative, in his instinct for how to use the human voice in song and above all in chorus, in the matchless flexibility and adroitness he displays at word-setting and in the audacity of his melodic and harmonic effects I can think of nobody who can approach Handel on his own terms.
Belshazzar was not a great success at the box-office, although this may have had more to do with difficulties in the casting than because it was deemed insufficiently biblical for oratorio, which seems to have been the fate of Hercules. It seems to me to be perfectly well described as oratorio in other ways too, with (for one thing) the extensive use of the chorus that we find in, say, Samson but not in Hercules. The one passage that cries out for visual effects is of course the apparition of the moving finger itself. Even here the composer can go a long way with sheer power of suggestion, by the strange unaccompanied violin figure creeping upwards and the frightened brevity of the vocal numbers. Otherwise for me Belshazzar is as much an oratorio as Samson is. It has the same librettist too, the crusty and formidable Jennens, who had also collaborated with Handel on Saul and on Messiah itself. Jennens' full text is not provided, but I think if you read the synopsis first and then follow the work from the headlines to each number you will have no difficulty in catching the words, so clear is the enunciation by soloists and chorus alike. As usual, Handel was driven to make alterations to the score for practical reasons. He had been a little concerned about its length, roughly 2 hours and 50 minutes in this performance, but where he wishes to be expansive he gives us full measure - two arias in Act I scene 4 take well over 7 minutes each. The liner-essay (a good one, by Anthony Hicks) goes into the issue of the version of the score used here, and I personally have no problem with it.
I have no faults to find with the performance in any way. Pinnock is an established specialist, the instruments are period instruments and vocal cadenzas at the end of the arias are kept minimal. Anthony Rolfe Johnson, James Bowman and David Wilson-Johnson are tried and trusted Handel singers and at their best here, and Nicolas Robertson and Richard Wistreich in the smaller parts are every bit as good. The part of Cyrus is a soprano part, taken by Catherine Robbin, and when I thought I heard just one touch of strain in `Destructive War' in the final scene she makes up for it instantly in her superb duet with Arleen Auger in the following number. Auger as Nitocris the mother of Belshazzar has the biggest part, and she covers herself with glory all the way through.
The recording is perfect, and when I saw an aria entitled `Destructive War, thy limits know' near the end I felt a sharp sense of irony in the year 2005. Cyrus, Handel, Jennens, you should all have been living at this hour.
Enjoiyable, but lacking, too........2004-08-16
This 3CD set of George Frederic Handel's (1685-1759) "Belshazzar", from Archiv Production, a division of Universal Music, is proof again that transfer from vinyl to tape to disc brings with it improvements in listening that make the purchase a worthwhile addition to anyone's listening library. Written in 1744, "Belshazzar" is an oratorio in the operatic style that is wonderful oratorio, but lacking the true depth one expects to hear in an opera. London opera audiences of Handel's day agreed, as both "Belshazzar" and Handel's other offering of the period in the same style, "Hercules", were not terribly successful. Instead of the scheduled 24 performances only 16 were given and Handel never offered a full season of oratorio again. The Libretto by Charles Jennens (1700-1773) is, as the production notes say, meant "not only to show the fall of Babylon but to show it as a fulfillment of divine prediction and to confirm the biblical testimony by reference to classical history." There's only one problem, as good a quality as the CDs are, it is not possible to follow the full libretto and the accompanying booklet includes no text, which is a shame. I think the listening experience would have been increased immeasurably if one was able to follow the text of what is being sung. Nonetheless the dramatic narrative is fluid and even, and the English Concert and Choir provide nice balance to the less full vocal passages, as in Disc 3s "Oh Glorious prince", cut 10. There is enough of this throughout to keep one's interest, but disappointing if what one expects is another ""Messiah".

Album Description
A live concert recording. Arlo teamed up with Shenandoah, a local band in the Berkshire mountain region of Massachusetts in the Fall of 1976. They toured together for about a decade. "One Night" is their debut recording. "One Night" was actually recorded over many nights as the band went from place to place wherever their touring schedule took them.
There is no fixing things up in the studio on this recording - It's all as it happened, when it happened. With David Grover, Terry A La Berry, Dan Velika, Steve and Carol Ide, Arlo romps through some of the funniest nights ever recorded - At least as far as they were concerned. You can hear them trying to continue as things get stranger and stranger in "The Story of Reuben Clamzo And His Strange Daughter in the Key of A."
With versatile musicianship and great vocal harmonies Shenandoah became a fixture of Arlo's touring to the delight of crowds everywhere. Even today 25 years later, they remain close friends and have recently toured together again. Many of these same musicians are on almost all of Arlo's later recordings up to the present day.

Arlo is GGGRRREEEAAATTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-10-14
I think Arlo is a great person. I also think he'd never boast about it or even realizes his greatness. His songs are insightful and some of them are down right silly. I myself have been listening to Arlo for 30 years. I have been to two live shows and one of them was with Pete Seeger. Right now at this moment I could put on any one of his albums and when it's over I will have felt many emotions. I will also feel like I have learned something new about humanity.
Don't miss the story of Reuben Clamso, it's a classic.......2002-05-25
Lots of great songs, but what you don't want to miss is
the story of Reuben Clamso and His Strange Daughter, which
is a wonderful live performance piece. I also love
St. Louis Tickle and Strangest Dream (which is a lovely and inspiring peace ballad). I surely wish this one was in print.
lost somewhere drinking something.......2001-12-08
I had all my ARlo together, yet even amogst themselves this little jewle was a rare treat, part cozy, sort of chilling at times and all the while it brought you there. Whether you we alone or not.

Great White Once Bitten, Twice Live.......2006-07-05
It is an excellent cd if you can get how the songs are broken between songs which is very annoying
DO NOT BUY THIS CD!!!.......2006-05-21
I picked this up in a store because it said "1st time on CD" It sounds like someone who doesn't know how to use a CD burner or burning software prepped it for release... 2 second gaps... cuts off either the end of songs or between song chatter. Just VERY poorly done. Buy "Thank You... Goodnight!" which is fantastic!
Virtually defective - horrible post production!.......2006-05-17
Nothing wrong with the performance by the band. But Sidewinder Music should recall these and put out a proper replacement. There are 2 second gaps of silence between all the tracks, like you get when you burn a cd-r in "track at once" mode. Even worse, the silence is not appended onto the ends of the tracks, but actually erases what should be in its place. One track will end with Jack in mid-word, and the next will start with a song, cutting off what Jack was saying. HORRIBLE!!!!
Amateur Mixing !.......2006-05-05
This is a strong live record by Great White but there is a stop gap between each track which completely ruins the feel of a live cd. You would think that Sidewinder would have fixed this before reissuing it on their own label. But, they did not. Some of the tracks start and stop so abruptly that it sound like part of the song is missing. This is very unprofessional and it should not have been released like this much less reissued.
UNFAIR!!.......2006-03-25
there should be a law against this,it is the very same cd as THANK YOU,GOODNIGHT..A GREAT SHOW but unfair to bring it out under a different name 2 years later

Customer Reviews:
Two of the great ladies of jazz, relaxed and having fun together........2005-10-03
This unusual CD features the great Betty Carter performing live with the great Carmen McRae, both having fun as they share the spotlight. Betty's voice is higher and sweeter than Carmen's lower, stronger, and more assertive voice, but together they sound like extensions of each other, almost alteregos, as they interact, engage in delightful patter, and joke and obviously mug with the audience. This is a CD for which one yearns for a video, since these two megastars of jazz are so in sync that it's sometimes difficult to tell which one is singing in these unusually long tracks.
In all tracks it is the singers themselves who are the focus. Accompaniment is kept to a minimum--at most, just the piano, bass, and/or drum--and frequently McRae and Carter sound as if they are singing a capella. "Stolen Moments (You Belong to Her)" features wonderful harmony and impeccable timing, as both singers hit their notes exactly on cue. "But Beautiful," slower and more ballad-like, shows both singers alternating the solo line, ending with surprising high notes and perfect harmony. In one of the longest songs, "Am I Blue?" McRae begins with a solo, then turns the mike to Carter halfway through, before they join and swing together for the remainder of this nearly seven-minute track.
One of the best songs on the CD is "Sometimes I'm Happy," which begins with Carter singing to a bass accompaniment (by Jim Hughart), switching to scat and wild improvisation by McRae, and ending with Carter singing scat. In fact, their ability to sing scat together and alternately is one of the best aspects of this CD. In "Isn't It Romantic?" these two stars obviously enjoy harmonizing, which they continue with "Sophisticated Lady," which alternates solos and then combines. The high point of the CD is "It Don't Mean a Thing," however. From the beginning, in which they sing together accompanied by a drum (Wynard Harper), then piano (Eric Gunnison), the two have fun alternating scat turns, before the drum solos, and all go wild.
As McRae and Carter exchange patter and interject comments within their songs, they are obviously playing to their audience, which responds audibly on the recording, one of the great advantages of live performances. Bright, fun, and relaxed, this CD shows two of the great ladies of jazz interacting and sharing the spotlight as the audience roars its approval. Don't miss this one. N Mary Whipple
A hellish match made in heaven!.......2004-04-21
I love Billie. I love Sarah. I love Ella. I love Dinah. But if I were on a desert island, I would have to have the music of Carmen and Betty! They both had the wonderful combination of heart AND technique. They make you live the story within the song as they demonstrate monster creativity in reconstructing/recreating a song. The only song that seems under par is Oliver Nelson's "Stolen Moments". The pitch strikes me as flat and i suspect that was mostly Betty's problem because she often intentionally or otherwise seemed to have a ptich problem or a different sense of pitch that was right for her. She could really sound flat to my ears from time to time but...
Both women had an exceptional balance of interpretation of musicianship... awesomely so. Listen to Duke Ellingtons' "Sophisticated Lady". Such humor and joy on this set. Listen to the way Carmen sings: "Diamonds Shining...". It is dark and glistening! Listen to Betty's interprtation of "Where or When". Originally this song was performed in a light operatic style. Betty does a Brilliant reconstruction of an this old chestnut.as she takes it to another place of timelessness. She makes it live again. Almost like you are hearing it for the first time.
This is not a "perfect" album. It is magical! It touches in deep places that make you glad you were a live to witness such beauty.
Early on in the set they joke about how nobody imagined that these two could ever get along long enough to do anything together. Carmen asserts that they did it because they were smart as foxes. And they were for awhile. Within two years of doing this recording they were infact in an ugly fued. None the less they left a legacy of beauty and creativity.
Yeah, get this one!
Two of the Greats!!.......2004-02-07
Carmen McRae & Betty Carter deliver a great live set of jazz and fun, both ladies giving each other room to shine and both singing together as a duet should be done! not trying to out do each other! i would have loved for them to have recorded more duet lp's, but i'm so glad they gave us this wonderful cd!!!
I must be missing something.......2002-03-03
I picked this up at the local used CD store for $1 figuring I'd found a bargain. After a couple listens, I traded it right back to them. I don't know why this CD gets such high ratings, both here and in the jazz guides. The sound is muddied, the singing far from serious, and the banter hard to discern.
It reminds me somewhat of another very overrated CD....Tony Bennett MTV Unplugged.
I don't begrudge either Carmen or Betty their place in jazz history....but this CD is really a poor example of that of which they are capable.
They Could Have Done it Better but ... What Matters!.......2000-07-10
This is a CD re-issue with a repertoire more complete than the first CD edition. Notably, this new CD offers "Love Dance" as composed by Brazilian Ivan Lins and brightly sung by Carmen McRae. Above all, there is master voice and performance command here. To be listened to on your knees.
