Customer Reviews:
Very good show which I hadn't heard of..........2007-05-13
I was very into theatre in high school and college and thought I was up on most musicals, but had never heard of this show until recently. It's comprised of three short stories which were adapted into the musical format. The first two stories are tied together very well, although the last seems tacked on. But the songs are catchy and it's fairly easy to figure out what's happening simply by listening to the songs. There are two songs which are tied for my favoritism: "It's a Fish" from Adam and Eve and "You Are Not Real" from Passionella. Check it out.
THE APPLE TREE (1966 ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST).......2007-04-10
IT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. I WENT TO THE REVIVAL OF THE APPLE TREE ON BROADWAY IN NEW YORK CITY AND LOVED THE SCORE BUT THERE WASN'T A SOUNDTRACK AVAILABLE SO I PURCHASED THE ORIGINAL VERSION AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!
I still remember these songs after 40 years.......2006-11-05
I saw this show on the stage when it first ran, and have never forgotten it. The key to a good Broadway show is this question: Are you humming the songs when you leave the theatre? In the case of The Apple Tree, the answer is a resounding "Yes." I have been waiting 40 years for this show to be revived, and I have tickets for the revival opening in December at the Roundabout. I hope not to be disappointed, for the trio of Barbara Harris, a very young Alan Alda, and the late Larry Blyden were terrific. The three-part concept can be jarring because just when you're getting into the story, it ends -- but just enjoy the kind of songs they just don't write anymore.
Really 2.5.......2006-07-25
SO this is another show thats actually three one acts. The first "The Diary of Adam and Eve" is the best by far. It has really cute songs and nice plot. Thats the only reason I rounded this up from 2.5 to 3 stars. The rest of the show is nothing great. "Lady and Tiger" is short and boring. And "Passionella" is exactly what it sounds like, a knock off of Cinderella. But hey, its a good show for collectors and "The Diary of Adam and Eve" is nice. Favorite Song: "Its A Fish"
Boring material that you forget very easily.......2006-06-29
According to some reviews, this musical was supposed to be very good and I bought it. Unfortunately, I was quite dissapointed. It's composed of three different tales, the first one referring to the Adam & Eve biblical story. The lyrics here are very silly and tedious. The second tale, "The Lady or the Tiger?" contains songs that are simply awful, probably the worst ever written for a Broadway show. The third story, "Passionella", contains music that does nothing to make things better. The album contains a good informative booklet in English, German, French & Italian (as Sony uses to do)which says that Time magazine defined this show as "three moldy figs". I entirely agree. I would recommend this musical to those suffering from insomnia: it will put them to sleep right away.

BRILLIANT & MAGICAL VOCALS~BRAVO SHIRLEY BASSEY!!!.......2007-07-31
Shirley Bassey reached the peak of her vocal brilliance by the mid-seventies when these two great vocal masterpieces were released already being an International Superstar with sold-out venues around the world giving performances filled with wild standing ovations...this Legendary Diva still possesses that stunning voice and performing presence that is unmatched in the world of entertainment today being back on top of the charts in Europe and hopefully tired America radio will rise to the occasion but we won't hold our breath...
"Nobody Does It Like Me" is classic Bassey in an electic mix of great songs & unique orchestrations filled with stand-out performances such as the deeply emotional and brilliantly sung "I'm Not Anyone" composed by Paul Anka and Miss Bassey wrings every ounce of passion out of this great song with vocal brilliance that is awesome and memorable..."Davy" is a haunting duet with its composer Benard Igher while two motion picture theme songs, "The Trouble With Hello Is Goodbye" and "All That Love Went To Waste" should have had exposure as they are magnificent performances that would have been huge chart hits but somebody dropped the ball...a number of times unfortunately. Another chart hit possibility would have been a wondrous and definitive version of Stevie Wonder's "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life"! Every song in "Nobody Does It Better" makes one a believer that the title is an accurate description of this great singer and this is only 1/2 of the collection!!!
"Love, Life And Feelings" is a true Bassey Masterpiece and the world tour for its release is a truly extraordinary and magical memory for us lucky ones who experienced this timeless legend in concert during this amazing time in her career...each song is a complete experience like a play with a beginning, middle & great ending with every song a standout! Never before has a Neil Sedaka song like "The Hungry Years" been such a riveting listening experience and "Born To Lose" is devastating in a way that nobody but Bassey could bring to the listener. By the time one gets into the since of grief experienced in "Alone Again (Naturally)" or the pathos that fill "Feelings", it is clear this is a true original classic singer who brings it all to the listener. Like any true great artist, Shirley Bassey saves the best for last and "If I Never Sing Another Song" is a haunting and stunning finale that always brings the entire audience out of their seats screaming for MORE!!!!! Don't miss this tremendous collection as these two lp's are two of the greatest vocal masterwork's ever made! Bravo Shirley!!!
Bassey at her very best!.......2007-01-30
This excellent 2CD release from BGO features two Shirley Bassey albums originally released in 1974 and 1976. Both released for the first time on CD!. The first "Nobody Does It Like Me" was recorded in the USA following the popularity of Shirley's previous album and single "Never Never Never". This album was designed to place Shirley in the lucrative US adult contemporary market and results in a different sound to her UK recordings around the same period. Shirley'e voice is at its very best, and the overall production is pulled back somewhat compared with her previous UA albums. Now 30 years later, this album sounds better than ever, and listeners can't help but wonder why it wasn't a bigger success. Standout tracks include "Davy" a duet with the songs composer; Bernard Ighner and Paul Anka's "I'm Not Anyone". The album closes with Shirley's beautiful version of Stevie Wonder's "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life". Next is the album "Love, Life and Feelings" from 1976 which placed Shirley firmly back in the UK charts. This album peaked at number 13 and enjoyed a 5 week run in the charts. There is not a single track on this album that does not deserve 5 stars, but for the record you will find many songs associated with Dame Shirley that (strangely) don't appear on many compilations including, "What I Did For Love", "Born To Lose", "Natali" and "If I Never Sing Another Song". Both albums have been expertly re-mastered by the experts at BGO and have never sounded better!

The best songs.......2006-03-01
You get all the background music in the movie. You can focus mote on the music rather then the action.
Feel the movie in music.......2005-10-09
This soundtrack is so far one of my favorite, listening it all the time. It still bring me as much emotion as the Movie. A great success in the selection of the musics illustrating the story...
Magical!.......2005-10-05
Ever since the day I downloaded the piece "Morgan-Amor Tristis" I knew I would love whatever CD came with it. I was 100% correct. This album contains songs that are so breathtakingly gorgeous I had to stop whatever I was doing just to listen to them.
Of course, as I mentioned earlier, "Morgan-Amor Tristis" Is the jewel of this CD, but I found the choral pieces to be equaly beautiful. "Dea Cantat- The Goddess Sings" is the second piece song as a solo with no instrumentation. The vocalist carries the song beautifuly and creates a simplistic joy.
Towards the end, the song "Cora de Dea- Voices of Goddess" (an instrumental and full choral version of "Dea Cantat") gives us a fitting finale.
I also enjoyed the songs "Celestin- Seditianis Auctor" and "Crystallus Malus- Dark Shrine" for their sense of hidden darkness and despare.
ANd finally the song "Spring Unchanged" brought with it the perfect sense of the season and all the characters.
This was my first order with Amazon and so I didn't know when to expect the Cd. To my delight, it arrived in less than four days! Thank you sooooo much!
This is a great CD. For all manga and anime lovers, this is a must have!
A worthy soundtrack to the movie.......2005-05-15
I bought this soundtrack CD right after I watched the movie on DVD. I enjoy the soundtrack as much as the movie. The orchestral pieces are particularly memorable. I had it literally playing for days as background music on my computer. It is still one of the few soundtrack CDs that I play regularly.
For your information.......2005-01-21
For your information, Nobuo Uematsu, the pioneer in gaming music of Final Fantasy, was involved in AMG movie soundtrack. So you can expect the best of the best and this is really an album of masterpiece with emotions.

Dave Edmunds Gets Heavy..........2001-10-29
When I first heard "Forms And Feelings", I was floored--I had heard of Dave Edmunds before, mainly from his work with Rockpile and solo albums, but I had no idea he was the guitarist of Love Sculpture! I purchased a now out-of-print double CD called "The Early Edmunds", which covered his career from 1967-1972 from his first band, The Human Beans through early Rockpile, and right in between was Love Sculpture; it includes both this album and "Blues Helping", and one listen to their versions of the classical pieces "Farandole" by Georges Bizet, and "Sabre Dance" by Khachaturian, and I was left speechless by Edmunds' fast, fluid and energetic guitar leads; articulating each and every note with dexterity, skill and passion. Edmunds was like the Yngwie Malmsteen of his day; no one (including myself) could believe that a guitarist from the 60's could play that fast and that well; I thought Hendrix was all that, until I heard this Dave Edmunds guy, and my opinion changed quickly!
I agree with the man in the previous review that the omission of "Mars" was the only downside to this CD; apparently, the U.K. version of this album could not include it because the great-granddaughter of Gustav Holst (the composer of "Mars") sought legal action to prevent it from being released, but her influence was non-existent in the U.S. (due to variances in copyright laws), and "Mars" does appear on the Parrot Records release; it's inclusion on the U.S. album fit in nicely with the rest of the songs, with it's trippy sound and remarkable ending, segueing into the ridiculously fast, 11-minute plus version of "Sabre Dance" (I've often wondered if the drum and bass backing rhythm track on "Sabre Dance" was a tape loop, or if the band played consistently at that fast pace?). It can be a bit monotonous at times, but to hear the tight and powerful ending to the song (which in case some of you didn't know, was the ending theme music for "The Lone Ranger" TV series in the 1950's), which will leave you breathless!
This is an excellent CD, and a great chance for you to experience the virtually unknown guitar wizardry of Dave Edmunds in a completely different context, before he became a roots-rocker and producer in the 1970's, covering 50's R&B, doo-wop, and even girl-group classics (check out his authentically-recreated versions of "The Doo Ron Ron" and "Baby I Love You" on his 1975 "Subtle As A Flying Mallet" album)! Buy this CD, you can't go wrong with it!
Only Flaw is an omission from the original album.......2001-09-16
Back in the late 60's, FM rock stations had a lot of good material to put on the air. In those days, innovation, experimentation, variety, etc. were the keys to success, quite unlike the formulaic pop music of today. The results were impressive. There were the big names, of course, but there were also a lot of obscure bands, who would never get airtime today, much to our loss. One such was Love Sculpture.
Love Sculpture was diverse musically. After all, how many bands play Chuck Berry and Georges Bizet on the same album?! That their talents were substantial is demonstrated by Dave Edmunds' later success, but Ker and Finesilver did alright in the music industry themselves.
This band played well, and this album is good, hard, 60's rock music. If there's a flaw, it's on one small point: the CD omits the Love Sculpture version of Holst's "Mars, God of War," that preceded "Sabre Dance" on the vinyl album. The CD is still good, but "Mars" fit real nicely into the original package.
One of my favourites.......2001-06-29
Born in Norway, my English isn't good, but this record is so splendid, I just have to tell you. The heavy stuff is very very intensely great and unique. And if you like Beatles, you will l also love the few soft ones. Even the blues-song is allright, although I hate blues. Most people who've heard this record praise Sabre Dance as the best song, but I think it's too noisy and monotonous. But the rest; unreal!
underrated cd from early dave edmunds.......2000-01-05
this is the first cd i ever bought online. edmunds' guitar work is simply incredible. much less blues - oriented than their previous album. an especially underrated track may be ' nobody's talking. ' this tune features lyrics that are still pertinent today along with loud droning guitarwork. in the land of the few and sabre dance are somewhat different on this than in the single versions. sabre dance simply has to be heard to be believed! this fine record mixes classical rock( not overdone either) with some late psychedelia/ early metal(well, almost, not quite sure what to call it) and even a decent chuck berry cover. this may not be for fans of edmunds later work but nonetheless its quite startlingly good throughout. 'seagull' may be histrionic but still a good tune. the contributions of bassist john williams and drummers? (i think its both bob 'congo' jones and perhaps also terry williams), provide for solid support to edmunds' often incredible guitarwork on this cd. the lyrics from this band were generally covers or written in collaboration with the album's producers or managers.
Dave & Co. Get Psychedelic This Time Out........1999-05-18
Generally not as highly regarded as the blues-based rave ups on the previous "Blues Helping" album, the tunes on "Forms and Feelings" are actually quite good. Doing a 360-degree stylistic turnaround, the band now explored revved-up classical rave-ups (Sabre Dance, Farondole), late-sixties psychedelia (In The Land Of The Few, Why How-Now) with a couple of nice ballads (Seagull, People People) thrown into the mix. Blues purists probably scoffed at the somewhat outdated psychedelic overtones (the original LP cover looked like something from a Fillmore West light show), but overall, the songwriting and performances still hold up extremely well, even after 29 years. Maybe not the perfect way to experience the awesome guitar work of Dave Edmunds, but recommended nonetheless.
