In an age of overstuffed albums, it's easy to applaud the self- control that led new-soul stylist Jesse Powell to limit his second CD, 'Bout It, to nine songs. Or is that a lack of material? Powell's strong, Stevie Wonder-like voice is mostly wasted on these tracks, which too often recycle familiar grooves (Usher could easily do his "You Make Me Wanna..." dance to the first single, "I Wasn't With It") and hackneyed pleas ("I Can Tell," "Are You Missin' My Love?") to poor effect. The presence of elevator-jazz sax man Gerald Albright on "You" is the last straw. --Rickey Wright

All i can say is .."YOU".......2006-11-26
the best song of the whole album is "YOU" I dont mean to hate jesse but u goin in the one hit wonder category if it wasnt for "you" , you probably wouldnt sold 500,000 units
Wedding song for sure...........2006-02-09
The album was just okay, but the song "YOU" made it perfect. This cd is a must have if only for the real, not the radio version of "You". This is the perfect wedding song. The music video was the best because they used a real girl in it and not a "video vixen." Jesse Powell is wonderful. It is such a shame that he just fell off...but I'm not a band-wagon girl. He's captured my heart and I'll be a die hard fan forever!
A little bit of a sophmore slump but his voices saves it.......2006-02-02
Jesse Powell shocked a lot of R&B lovers with his Bout It CD, which was no where near as strong as first one. Luckly Mr. Powell has an amazing range which saves this CD from fully having a sophmore slump. The growth is apparent on Jesse Powell's sophomore effort for Silas/MCA Records. Half of the ten song set was co-written by Powell, furthering the evidence of artist development. Hip-Hop Soul tracks like "I Can Tell" are complete opposites of the folky, yet catchy, acoustic creations such as "You Should Know." Throwing it back to the age of classic R&B, "I Can Tell" possesses a retro-soul sound. 'BOUT IT offers more than just pleasant melodies and strong tracks. Powell's vocal delivery is a powerhouse of dynamic ranges, from the ballads ("'Bout It") to the Jeep pumpers ("I Wasn't With It"). Check out the Rodney Jerkins creation, "She Wasn't Last Night" and the Pete Rock remix of "I Wasn't With It." The bass thumping bottom of "Up and Down" cleverly uses a sample of Isaac Hayes' "Never Gonna Give You Up."
boring.......2005-04-01
the problem i have with jesse powell is the same problem i have with debrah cox, tamia, tevin campbell, and divine.and the problem is that they sound boring.they just make typical bland r&b.not that its a problem if thats what your into.but their version of R&B is like mash potatoes with no seasoning.i mean theres no funk,no soul no nothing.its just what it is regular R&B. yeah theres nice funky james on here like the first single.but thats about it.
Jesse At His Best.......2004-06-10
This is the best CD by Jesse Powell!!! Begining to end it is excellent. Smooth, warm, groovy, emotional, soulful and all the other great ingredients needed for a Mastery album. I have all four of Jesse CD's incuding the new album titled "Jesse". Which happend to be a great album. But this album is Jess at his best and if you had to choose, I would strongly reccomend this one. However all of the albums are superb.
Words can't explain how much this album did for me.

The hardest CD for that Streetz.......2006-05-06
Man, this is the best movie soundtrack that I've ever heard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bout it 4real.......2004-12-08
Place this CD in your player, turn the volume up, and just let it ride. This is the album that showcases the No Limit All-Stars. This also was the album that I found out that my hometown hero Mystikal was signed to NL. I love the entire album although sometimes I like to rush to my favorite songs.
Tracks 2-8 and 10-20 are hot. For some reason track 21 volume is very low even with my speakers on blast. Track 10 feature TRU "Down and Dirty" and I have to say me and my boys were laughing at the way Silkk ryhmes. Check it out for yourself at some point during the song Silkk say's "I'm mad like an 8th grader/make faces like 1st grader". What was that about I have listened to that song a number of times trying to figure out the reason behing those lyrics and can't find an answer. I know I'm getting off the tracks but if anyone can relate to me the reason behind those lyrics I would be gratefully appreciative.
I'M BOUT' IT SOUNDTRACK NO LIMIT CLASSIC
The Best Soundtrack From The South, Hands Down............2003-08-06
This soundtrack is banging like Crips & Bloods. This CD can be played all the way through, without skipping any songs. My favorite tracks are: "How U Do Dat", "Situation On Dirty", and my favorite, "Lock Down" by my boy Mac. In my opinion, he came the tightest on the CD. He has the perfect flow for the song, and it almost seems as if he's not from the South. I'm from Michigan, and I'm feeling this CD, for real. Anyone want to buy a classic CD? You need this in your CD collection. If you have any CD, you gotta have this one in there too. Even if you don't like down south rap, you gotta at least love the beats on this. Man, whenever I ride, I put it on Mac's track, "Lock Down". That's a track you can just ride all night to. But I do wish that Master P. would have kept his tight artists, unlike starting up this, "New No Limit" mess.
The Best Soundtrack of All Time!!!!!!.......2002-03-28
Forget all the haters, this is in my opinion, the best soundtrack ever. The best songs are Down N Dirty, How Ya Do Dat, If I could Change, Meal Ticket, and my personal favorite; Before I Die. Mr. Serv On comes too cold on this one. If you can find it somewhere, GET IT!!!!
VERY GOOD SOUNDTRACK.......2001-12-05
THIS IS THE BEST S.T. FROM THE LIMIT CLAN."DOWN&DIRTY"IS BY FAR THE BEST SONG ON THE CD FROM MY POINT OF VIEW.

There STILL Ain't No 'Bout-A-Doubt It.......2007-01-11
So glad to get my hands back on this album (cd) again. Larry Graham at his best!!!! FORGET ABOUT HIS SOLO CAREER (that balladeer garbage). His best musical moments were BEFORE that, when the only thing I knew about Larry Graham was GRAHAM CENTRAL STATION!!!! This album is a must have. The first 3 cuts on the cd ALONE is enough to make the album a classic.
This ain't nothin but a Warner Bros. P A R T Y! .......2005-09-14
I heard this on the AM dial when radio had some guts and variety.
Hopped on my bike and poured out enough change to go home with my prize.
Oh my, my, my what a prize. Reared on the sounds of Sly and the family stone, this hit the spot.
The Jam took guts right from the start with a overtime, overload of a FUNK with some self expression added. It took me years to realize that the same bass voice that hit the charts in the 80's with the ballad, "One in a Million you" is the lead on "Your Love." Warner Bros. FIRST. That's right, FIRST Black Gold album. Hence this band set the way for The Time, Prince etc. "It's alright", "Water" and "Easy Rider", are the uptempo fun grooves here. "I can't stand the rain" is just an awesome arrangement.
Warner Bros. Party is a fun tribute to the Tower of Power, Doobie Bros. etc. Laid back fun and inspiration "Ole Smokey" and "Luckiest People." round off a super funk outing.
I do believe after the success of this recording Warner Bros. set up a dept. for Black Music that they obviously had overlooked.
Tha Bawwmb!.......2005-01-08
Yeesir! This was recorded at the peak of their magic powers as a 'Fonk' outfit. Every number here is perfect. 'The Jam' still knocks my socks off eeach time I hear it, 'It's Alright' and 'Warner Bros Parrty' slam the grooves and raise dem hands!
Then there's the soulfully, Doo Wap resplendence of 'Your Love,' where all the Gospel truth about Love 'n' stuff just socks it to ya, right in the gut, the way a good fonk ballad should do.
'Water' is a clever bit of tight, backwards production, and has one of Larry's most killer slaps! Their records always finish on a religious, over the top kinda tip, but that really is the only down side to the heaviest funk and groove this of Bootsy and Kool And The Gang. Oh yeah, dont listen to other reviewers when they say, 'Get the greatist hit's,' cause every GCS album upto 'My Radio Sure Sounds Good To Me' is essential funk listening. You hear how they progress from raw funk and southern stars, to more discoish, upbeat songs. Praise tha Lawwd!
Overrated.......2003-08-20
Sure this has GCS's statement of intent "The Jam" and fun part numbers such as "Ain't Nothin But A Warner Brothers Party"
but the overrall quality of the compositions is a significant step down from "Release Yourself" and their monster debut.Best
hear it's highlites on a Greatest Hits package.
gcs: their best.......2003-01-10
As a long time fan, (in my mind, their biggest fan!), this album has always stood out as their greatest body of work!. From their national anthem "The Jam", to the other party favorites, it has stood the test of time. Definitely, a must buy!

Leo on Blue Note.......2006-07-12
Leo Parker was one of the first baritone sax players to incorporate the modern sounds of bebop into his playing; interestingly, he could also wail on the blues like any tried-and-true r&ber. After recording a number of sides in the late 40's-early 50's, a drug habit layed him low; this was his first "comeback" recording, done in 1961. He's in very good form throughout the date, though shines especially well on the one blues composition recorded: BLUE LEO. It's a brilliant performance with Leo exploring to the depths of the piece, while bassist Stan Conover keeps everything rock-steady. Anyone out there into reciting poetry to a jazz background, here's the perfect piece to use. The group goes to church twice (LET ME TELL YOU `BOUT IT and LOW BROWN - 2 takes), while GLAD LAD is a jaunty up-tempo ditty full of sunshine and happiness. Trumpeter John Burks takes a nice solo on VI, and tenorman Bill Swindell plays well in many places, particularly on PARKER'S PALS. Unfortunately Parker was able to make only one more album, a month later, also for Blue Note, before dying of a heart attack, another great and premature loss to the jazz world.

I think this is a Great album for Brandy's father, I can see exactly where Brandy & Ray J gets there talent from. I have the song wit Brandy and Willie singing a duet on repeat I think that is definitely the best song on the album. If you're into Gospel i recommend you to buy this album, it's a great album.
