BANGING.......2007-04-15
This cd is banging from beginning to start, I wish Greg Royal would have produced more albums for RBX or other Westcoast artists.
Pick it up if you have the chance, tracks like AWOL, The Edge and so on makes you wanna kick someones face in!
X - Files.......2005-08-11
After being heard on Dr. Dre's The Chronic, it was clear that RBX would be the next rapper / emcee from Long Beach to blow. After leaving Death Row, RBX released a strong debut entitled, The RBX Files. "A.W.O.L." tells his story of being on Death Row and the reason for leaving as he takes his trademark with him, "...I drop bombs like Hiroshima..." He gives it up to his native city with the bass-heavy, West Coast beat of "Slip Into Long Beach". The Narrator proves his skills throughout, but "Rough Is The Texture" displays X's mentality as a playful killer. "Feathers In The Wind" is the most up-beat song featured with a saxaphone over a bass guitar. Rec Dialec & E' D' Ameng featured on "Tundra" without RBX. With a reggae feel of "Mom's Are Cryin'" he give tales of growing up and how mothers feel about activities of their children. Into his religion of being Muslim, titles like "Akebulan" featuring Ganja K and "Fightin' The Devil" he displays his positions on society as well as on the interludes. All of the production is held down by Greg Royal with the exception of three that were produced by Dave Fogg. RBX showed how he lyrically gang-bang as a ghostwriter for Dr. Dre and this album proves it.
A lost gem.......2004-02-06
RBX made his debut in 1992 on 'The Chronic', and pretty much stole the show with his eerie, gruff & detached voice, powerful lyrics and unique style. To put him in the same category as limited emcees with small vocabularies like Snoop or Dre etc is an insult.
RBX is the best west coast lyricist since King Tee. RBX was too mature for the childish gang warfare at Death Row and left to record a solo album, for Premediatted Records in 1995. Beats come courtesy Greg Royal, one of the guys who mixed 'The Chronic'. This album islike no other you have ever heard. RBXs lyrics are inventive and powerful, he flexes a wide array of different styles & flows, and the beats are dusty, dark and hard hitting. If your lookin for mindless G-funk and raps about sunny days, cars and smoking indo you are going to be disappointed. This album is just as good as any classic New York hip hop album i can name.
Few emcees can stand up to X and he really rips the mic. The whole album has a dark, brooding atmosphere and X talks at length about street violence and impending armageddon. This is a true lost classic and doesn't deserved to be grouped in with the simple emcees in the Death Row family tree. I would recommend you seek out this gem because you wont hear a more dark, tripped out and enganging album, outside of NYC 88-95.
Rbx Files.......2003-03-10
This album was one of many taking aim at the West Coast's powerhouse record company known as "Death Row" I initially heard Rbx on Dr. Dre's the "Chronic". He appeared on the posse cut "Lyrical Gangbang" as well as a few other tracks. His solo project presented more of the same gangsta inspired rhymes already witnessed on Dre's "The Chronic" but with a much deeper twist that I hadn't expected. Rbx's lyrical talent was already evident on Dre's solo project but he took it to another level on his solo debut. The track production is tight yet innovative (check out "Feathers in the Wind"). He refers to many topics throughout the album such as the coming of armmagedeon, peelin' busta's caps, his negative dealings with Death Row and the upliftment of the black mind state. The album shows Rbx's complex dilemma of being caught between his muslim pursuit of righteousness but having to deal with the ruthlessness of the streets. In a strange way it makes sense. It is a really good album if you are a fan of good west coast music. It is hard to find though.

Brilliant and under-rated.......2007-08-03
So glad to see Roachford on Amazon. Just buy it - you wont regret it. Seal, Lighthouse, yes - except Roachford is better. Cuddly Toy, the song that actually made it to the charts, is one of the most ordinary on this album. This album brings back fantastic memories. Am actually online looking to buy some of his other stuff...
A hidden gem.......2006-02-18
Isn't it shocking that nearly every album you look at is rated as 4.5 stars. :) You will hear some Prince and some Luther Vandross in this artist. I don't know about adrenaline, but it is some toe tapping music and well done. There are some great songs that will cause you to wonder why you aren't hearing them on the radio "Man that I am". Well worth the money and will encourage you to look for more Roachford.
funk soul brother.......2002-10-23
Think chilled out, think soul. Think of your foot tapping, stereo turned up where it belongs.
A truly classic album. Can be played over over and over.
A stunning combination from a cool brother who combines soul, R & B, with a touch of the blues in timeless form.
If you think you like a bit of soul, and you appreciate a blessing of a voice, then you should give this one a whirl ...
Criminally under-rated artist.......2002-08-21
I first learned of Roachford in the late '80's when I was a student in Surrey, England. As an American, I was delighted to see this English artist live on several occasions and was a little surprised when I returned to the US that the band wasn't bigger.
If you like '80's pop/funk with some flavors of Prince, Kool and the Gang, with some rock sensibilities thrown in, check out Roachford. The band has some great songwriting skills. This is intelligent stuff, but also a lot of fun. You won't be disappointed.
BRILLIANT ARTIST - UNDER RATED.......2001-12-17
Here is an example of an under rated artist whom has a brilliant style of music that will increase your adrenaline while you drive your car at high speed and make you sing from your lungs at full blast. Roachford has a similar style to Lenny Kravitz, Seal and Lighthouse Family. This a greatest hits album that is an excellent compilation of this British artist that will be a good addition to one's collection. I particularly like the rhythmn and semi acoustic guitar work with soulful funk blended in with contemporary "middle of the road" rock with some orchestration. There are meanful lyrics in the songs sung with lots of expression.
I am British living on the west coast of The USA and I love playing this album at full volume in my Corvette with the T top removed. Many people have asked me who is this artist as they have never heard of Roachford. Well - he is a British cool dude that should have made it big time!!!
Roachford is a good stress relief and anti-depressant.

Product Description
The key element in the Mothers Favorite Child music-making process is recording everything from the scratch vocals to rough musical ideas as if it’s the final recording. Each recording brings new magic and sometimes evolves into new sounds resulting in multiple interpretations of then and now. Here and there, snippets of these pre-produced studio tracks have made their way to various websites across the cyber universe and as a result have created a surprising demand for a full-length album. This highly anticipated creation has been in the works for some time, delayed only by the creator’s need for the “truth” in each and every track (that truth compiled of the best musicians, vocalists and lyrics for the project). Though Mothers Favorite Child is intent on taking as much time as necessary on their first major release, they do recognize that their eager audience is in dire need of a soulful pacifier. As a gift to those who believed there was no reason for some of these “rough cuts” to remain buried within studio hard drives, Mothers Favorite Child opened the vault and blew the dust off of a few favorites, showcasing the soothing vocals of Tanya Thillet. The result is MFC’s latest collaborative effort - The Audio Files.
