I love this cd albumn. I love it that Donnie McClurkin and the choir sings in so many different languages! I love the beat and the energy in each song. This is another spiritually uplifting cd, so joyful.....it's a joy to praise God with these songs. The spirit is truly with Donnie and this choir. I give God all the praise for this albumn!

This CD has a nice mix of hymns, praise songs and traditional songs from the black church. Both CD's are good, but i do prefer the first one. Favorite songs include:

This CD is one of my favorites to listen to when I feel the need to be closer to the Spirit. Mack Wilberg is a master at transforming old hymns into glorious arrangements. I have had experience with high school students who love singing his arrangements even within the context of a world that seems in a state of constant conflict. THIS CD IS FABULOUS!

This CD is a must have for any Mormon Tabernacle Choir fans. The music is very reverent and gentle, and should also appeal to those not from the LDS church, seeing as how most of the music is common to the wider Christian community. This CD is a fantastic addition to any music collection.

It Is Well With My Soul is one of my favorite-favorites and that is the main reason why I bought the CD; it turned out to be a huge let down on this album, they rearranged it so much that I almost didn't recognize it. Be Still My Soul is another reason why I bought it and it's good, but not great. Swing Low Sweet Chariot is where it starts to get good. The last two songs "Thou Gracious God, Whose Mercy Lends"
and "Come, Let Us Anew" are very good reasons to buy this CD, they each have truely powerful passages and make the CD worth having. The Mormon Tabernacle Choirs 2006 release entitled Then Sings My Soul is by far the best that I've heard from them.

However, the rating scale has a limit of five. I own over 700 CDs of virtually every type of music. Peace Like A River belongs in a class by itself! I've never written a review before but, after listening to this STUNNING performance by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, I feel compelled to share my praise with that of the five other reviewers. If I were limited to one word, I would use the word "SUPERB" to describe this beautiful and moving CD. SIX stars for Peace Like a River! BRAVO!!!

This album is all beauty and solace. The singing is pristine, the arrangements lush and often stirring--never saccharine. As with the previous reviewer, my first listing of "Peace Like a River" brought me to tears (especially "Peace Like a River," the sopranos in "Swing Low," and the bagpipes in "Thou Gracious God"). Buy this one.

I must add, to the praises above, that Kathleen Battle's "Lord, How Come Me Here" is the best "quick" explanation of the long-lasting effects of slavery that I can think of. The line, "They sold my children away," says it all.

And the VERY funny "Scandelize My Name" is also worth the price of the total album!

Clearly you are mistaken. I don't know who that guy is-the person below recommended-but there is NO COMPARISON to JESSYE NORMAN AND KATHLEEN BATTLE!!!! Jessye Norman herself has *30* HONARY DOCTRATES from places like Harvard, Juliard, Yale, Cambridge....I mean HELLO!!!! That guy had no where near the ease, the musicality or even the breath support as these two veterans show!! It is a beautiful CD though it came out in 1991 and I HIGHLY recommend it.

I'm going to be the dissenting voice here: thank goodness I signed this disk out of the public library 'cause I'm sure not going to listen to it twice.

There is nothing wrong with the performances. Jessye Norman and Kathleen Battle sing beautifully, and there's no problem with the pick-up orchestra under James Levine.

The problem, and it's huge, is the conception of the show and the musical arrangements. To make the video marketable, I suppose, the producers decided that the concert had to be big: big names, big arrangements, big effects. So we have eighteen spirituals given the musical theatre treatment, with a philharmonic chorus providing chain-gang sound effects, big brass, and big percussion -- including a chinese gong. A chinese gong in a spiritual??? Spare me! Almost every track turns out sounding like either a curtain-raiser or a big, end-of-act production number with cute and predictable modulations between some of the stanzas and the sort of curly-cue orchestral ornamentation typical of Broadway shows.

And you know what? It all kills the spirituals stone dead. The spiritual is one of those musical forms where less is more and very little is best of all. That's how they started, after all. That's how and why they worked for their original audiences, and that's why they were powerful enough to make the transition from folk song to art song. If you want to hear Battle sing spirituals that are irresistible, listen to the set on her Salzburg recital CD, also with Levine (ASIN B00000E31B). There, the music speaks for itself and speaks with a strength and a beauty that the tracks on this disk never approach.

There's not enough words that can express how wonderful Miss Jessye Norman's vocal talent is. What a wonderful opera diva! I thought the George Bizet's Carmen (CD) was magnificient but then when I got this (CD), I was thrown back. The range and style in "Ave Maria" is splendid, so is "Let's Break Bread Together," "Amazing Grace," and many more songs found on this CD. Miss Jessye Norman, Ms. Leontyne Price, Miss kathleen Battle, Miss Joan Sutherland are top opera divas on my list. So you know I have a fine taste of hearing great vocals; you can't go wrong in purchasing this CD. It's a treasure to listen to.

Okay, if you look at my other recommendations, you'll see that I'm a conservative. So, before my full embrace of the classical vocal artistry, and when I was just beginning to grasp politics (I'm only 21 now), I heard a beautiful voice and rejected it because it was singing at the inauguration of Bill Clinton.

I've learned a little since then. I've learned to ignore an artists political leanings, because they don't tell you much about quality (contrast the Republican South Park creators Matt Parker and Trey Stone with the Democrat Robert Redford). I've also learned to (sometimes) listen to the recommendations of friends. And well, after a friend heard me laud Reneé Fleming, Kathleen Battle, and Leontyne Price, she told me I needed to try Jessye Norman. So I did.

Jessye Norman here offers here own takes on many of the most-loved (i.e. trite) pieces in the religio-classical tradition. She renders one of my own favorites, "O Divine Redeemer", with great beauty. When other reviewers mention shivers on the spine, I can only nod. As a wonderful introduction to Ms. Norman, the great spirituals and hymns, or repudiation of foolish artistic discrimination, I highly recommend this CD.

If one takes into account the time at which this recording was made, and the surrounding events affecting his life, one can truly appreciate the significance of this album. Experiencing oppression not only from the U.S. but later the Canadian government to travel abroad, Robeson was impeded, but not prevented from singing in the name of peace, human rights, and the rights of the common worker. Victory was at hand when on May, 9 1958, the date of this recording, Paul Robeson announced that his passport battle had been won. This is the recording of a triumphant gentleman, a loving, ecstatic audience, and very importantly, a talented and very attuned pianist (Alan Booth). With this in mind one can more greatly appreciate how special this concert was. The magic of this recording trancends Robeson's impeccable singing. It is the concert as a whole that makes it so spectacular. Listen to 'Joe Hill', think of Robeson's battle, and hear why it is so powerful. Or listen to 'O No John', Alan Booth pounding the keys on the last notes, and the audience's response. Every person in Carnegie Hall was riveted. Well worth the price, and an uplifting experience.

This concert came along in 1958, when Paul's passport was restored and he was allowed to travel and make a living again, after several years of being on the Communist blacklist. His joy at performing once more for his traditional audience comes through in every track. That same year, he did a concert at his brother's church in Harlem, and when Columbia Records issued that one, it had another winner. Not long after those shows, Paul went overseas for five years, suffering a health crisis that brought him back to America in 1963, broken down and unable to perform consistently. He spent his last decade or so of life on the sidelines, living quietly with his sister in Philadelphia. This concert, then, along with the one at Mother Zion Church, is one of the final triumphs of one of the most interesting American lives. We know now that Paul's stubborn support of the Soviet Union in the Stalin era was a tragic flaw in his character, but he had magnificent gifts of voice and of acting presence, and had he come to the attention of audiences in 1957 instead of 1927, he would likely have earned millions as a singer and actor, and his political and social radical activism would have been a much smaller impediment to his career. If you already own some Robeson recordings, add this one because it represents him at the beginning of what was then "old age." If you own none, this concluding album is actually a fine starting point, because his earlier work suffers a bit from the primitive recording technology of the '30's and '40's.

Of course his baritone is fabulous. His rendition of Joe Hill is unforgettable - this was a song he sang for the builders' labourers on the site of the Sydney Opera House in around 1969 -also Old Man River, which he made his own. He should have sung this in the film of the musical Showboat but he was passed over for an inferior voice by the producers because he was a member of the Communist Party. A pity. He also sings some gospel on this CD, I'm not mad about religious songs but if you like them then you'll love this.

This album is awesome as everything this group does. There is not a day that goes by that I do not listen to at least one song by this group. Lee Williams has put in words what is in my heart. And "Child of God," if YOU really were, you would know not to judge and if this man is not Annointed, who is?? The power that comes from him, standing in one spot, is nothing less than a blessing from God. No one is perfect and I doubt anybody will try to claim such. Remember, Jesus did not come for the righteous, but so that sinners can be saved. We all fall short somewhere. We are all entitled to our opinions, but when you are talking about someone's connection to God, only God knows. Lee Williams and the Spiritual QC's have touched hearts all over the world and have led me to read many scriptures on account of listening to his songs and the stories about Jonah, Daniel, Moses, etc. and that's just me, you do not know what God has called him to do, so be careful how you judge. Lee Williams and the Spirituals have helped me in praising my God and I can only pray they never stop. God bless you too..........

This is a great album even though it isn't the best from Lee Williams! Yet how do you continue to out do yourself over and over anyway? Considering all their home runs this is still a slam dunk! Lee Williams and The Spiritual QC's have done it again! This dynamic group has nothing to prove to anyone but they do what they do and do it well! I enjoy the entire CD and my first picks are "God's Got A Blessing", "Jesus Rose", "Call Him Jesus" and "Glad To Be Here". Songs lead by other group members demonstrate a beautiful bond between the QC's. Keep it up!

Wonderfully done!!!! " No fault" will transport you to the unjust trial of the Lord Jesus before Pilate as though you are an eyewitness. "You can't run" will instantly lift your spirit and have you dancing before the Lord. Every track is great!!! Keep it up, Lee!

I have this title on DVD/CD it's really awesome and spirit filled. Lee Williams and the QC'S are really giving God the Praise. The audience is on fire and the live performance is just moving. I'd suggest buying it both ways one to look at at home and one to play while driving. Beleive me it is worth buying and adding to your collection.

I am a 26 years old. I am also married, and have a son. I am totaly into Lee Williams and the Q C's. There music will have you so uplifted that can't nobody come and take your joy. I have also been to alot of their concerts, and traveling sometimes 3 and 4 hours just to see them, and it is so worth it. Everyone should have a Lee Williams and Q C's cd with them. It's almost like a addition, i can't go through the day with out hearing their voices, because every word that flows through their mouth you know it;s coming through the man from on high,

Lee Williams and the QC`s gospel music is simply the greatest gospel I have heard and believe me if it caught my attention that means that it is powerful, and I mean spiritually powerful. If you are ever depressed,not feeling well,or things are not going well on your job just put one of their tapes or CD's on and you will feel spiritual calmness and peace of mind.

Keith "Wonderboy" Johnson & the Spirituals Voices are wonderful. At first I knew nothing about this song. Then oneday my husband came home & said "Pooh U need to hear this song, it sounds good but I donot know who sing it." Finally I heard this song & it surely can put a smile on your face!!! I have been hearing the song since then but never knew who sung it. Just the other day I went in the music store & bought it.The whole tape is good!!! I mean this sounds like the back in the days music, which is what I really like. Please U guys keep up the good work, u sound good!! I will be praying for Wonderboy, because anyone who is doing something positive for the Lord deserves the best. I will keep supporting U Wonderboy, because we hardly ever see many 27 year old men doing anything positive with their life. I wish the best of Love & blessing for this group!!! May God bless u !!!

Each song on this CD is absolutely moving. Keith "Wonderboy" Johnson has an amazing voice, and the Spiritual Voices are wonderful singers too. The musicians do an excellent job as well. When I heard "Be Right" on the radio, I knew I wanted to purchase this CD. I'm glad they did this CD live because I felt the songs like the audience felt them. In each song, Keith ministers to you like in "It Will Pay Off". He also gives wonderful advice to parents. I love the harmonic sound of "Heaven Is A Beautiful Place". I love their renditions of old traditional gospel songs like "Jesus Loves Me". I'm 26, and I thank God for blessing Keith "Wonderboy" Johnson and the Spiritual Voices with wonderful talents. Keep up the good work guys!

This CD always makes it back into my CD player rotation. It is one of my favorite worship CDs for these reasons: it is raw but passionate and it is extremely catchy. Being a praise band, I have loved doing covers of I Will Not Forget You, You Are So Good to Me, You Have Redeemed My Soul, Tender Mercy, and I Could Run Away. These are some of the best praise songs of all time! This CD was recorded in a circle (thus the band name) and it is the best circle of the circles by far. I love the unique folksy songs and you can just picture the musicians playing in a circle with their eyes closed praising to the one true God above. Ben Pasley and Don Chaffer have written brilliant songs that will always find a place in my CD player. Only criticism is that the female vocals sometimes sound a bit whiny. But for the most part, everything sounds great and I wish there were more out their singing with such passion!

100 Portraits and Waterdeep have an uncanny way of presenting music that sounds like something God would want to hear! They sing Psalms and praise in such a fresh and simple way. I just love this CD. The simplicity of the songs seems to enable a deeper connection to the Lord while I listen.

'enter the worship circle' is a worship experience you don't want to miss! the lyrics are simple so you can catch on quickly. the music is simple [guitar, i think] and let's you focus on God rather than the music. the worship is so fresh and real that it just draws you in and encourages you to worship God. no fancy sound effects or instruments. there's also a booklet that gives you some advice on how to write your own worship music. it's an amazing cd :) a definite must-have!

If you call yourself a Christian and have not at least heard this CD, you are truly missing out on real worship and intimacy with Jesus. 100 Portraits and Waterdeep have been absolutely filled with the Holy Spirit in the creation of this album. The songs are truly God breathed, coming from Divine inspiration. This CD will change your life! I cannot even begin to choose a favorite song...every single one is awesome! If you are really wanting to experience God in a way you never have before...get this CD! I recommend listening to it in your room alone; just let the words sing to your heart and you will have one of the greatest times in worship with our awesome Father. Just let God come and meet you half way....He wants to speak to you through this album!

I was so inspired by this album; the music, the emotion, the honesty and the simpleness of the rhythms and sounds. The instructions inside the jacket helped me to write many of my own songs. If you enjoy worshiping God, you'll enjoy this CD.
