Album Description
7/11 (HML 1001) is 60+ minutes of original music composed for two of the most popular CD-ROM games of all time. Suitably atmospheric, occasionally toe-tapping and humorous, with lively arrangements and slick production values. Features the indescribable Mr. Death, with vocals by Axel and Miles Dietrich of European Sex Machine.
Customer Reviews:
7/11 Soundtrack.......2007-07-04
Pretty sweet! They tweaked the original 7th Guest song a little, but did a good job w/ it. I compared it to the original 7th Guest soundtrack and 11th hour and was pretty happy w/ this one. You'll like it!
Classic Game Tunes.......2004-06-10
With the majority of The 7th Guest's score available for standalone listening on the game's second disc, along with both titles' MIDIs being freely available over the web, I was skeptical at the value of a compilation release. While there are a good number of crossover tracks from T7G, the CD is nicely balanced between The Fat Man's non-incidental cues (Mr. Death, The Game, Skeletons in My Closet), selections from The 11th Hour's cinematic score and extended versions of tracks originally included with T7G. Plus a liberal helping of 11H's in-house music.
The first quarter of the disc is taken up exclusively with non-incidental cues from the two games. The Final Hour Hawaiian sets a wispy, stormy mood; giving us a short introduction to the Fat Man's trademark eccentricity before moving directly into the stuttering beat of Mr. Death. The CD continues on it's jagged path with the brassy big band of Skeletons in My Closet, the "mad choir" of Chapel Pain, the section concluding with the soft guitar rock of The Game and The Final Hour.
7/11 wisely chooses to put its strangest fare out in front, though the choices tend to be a mixed bag. I absolutely love The Game and Skeletons in My Closet, both from T7G, while I never quite warmed to Mr. Death. I don't fault the composition of Mr. Death, but it's choice to serve as the background music for 11H's main menu always struck me as a missed opportunity. It's odd, sardonic tone about death looking over one's shoulder seemed an off way to set the stage for a story about sexual and materialistic desire steering a person's fate. The Game, which features lyrics that tie so well into T7G's plot, was never used anywhere in the actual game. Chapel Pain comes directly from the start of the T7G audio CD, the half minute demonic chant Dutton commented on in the library.
Wrapping up the section is The Final Hour, a bonus song included in the behind-the-scenes features of 11H and my least favorite track on the CD. Running for ten bloated minutes, it was written as a sequel to The Game, but replaces the hypnotic slow burn of the original with a truly out of left field pairing of acid rock and rockabilly country motifs, smothered and covered with lyrics that borderline on acoustically grating. The influences have been so mixed together that instead of the conflicting elements playing off one another to create something wholly original, they're lost mingling in and out of focus. A thin paste rather than a multi-layered cake.
The next four tracks are drawn from the cinematic score for 11H. Whatever can be said of the plot quality in 11H, I really, really enjoyed The Fat Man's music for the game's cut scenes, in that they created a completely different mood than what was present in the mansion. While the rooms set the tone for the music of the exploration sections of both games, since the majority of 11H's story took place outside in the town of Harley-On-Hudson the moods of the characters drive the tone here, letting the quiet melancholy that infects Harley taint the music.
The only composer's work that I can liken to these tracks' style is Badalamenti's score for the TV show Twin Peaks, with the soft guitar undercurrent driving the pieces. A veiled, yet unrelenting control in the subtext. Badalamenti's work for Twin Peaks was rooted in playful whimsy tempered with darkness, the score here substituting the uniquely Northwest small town quirkiness with a sun bleached tranquility more suited for the Hudson River Valley of New York. The jewel of the bunch, Ashes, played while Carl watched the mansion burn at the end of 11H and is great piece to mellow out with.
Following the main titles for the T7G (Short Intro), the CD moves into a long selection of pieces from the puzzle and exploration sections of the two games. Many favorites are included and if you know the games you know the high quality of the music here. Doorbell, Dolls of Doom, We're the Ghosts, Bedspread and Coffin Dance are carried over from the T7G audio CD, plus a dialogue-free version of All the Guests ("I heard singing upstairs...") and the uncut Foyer tune Ghost of Bo. A welcome new addition to the fold is the track Bolero, the music that accompanied the infamous microscope puzzle.
Selections from 11H are intermixed with the T7G tracks. For the sequel, Sanger employed an even more widely diverse range of music styles to paint the mood of the assorted rooms of the derelict mansion. Love Soupreme, used in the kitchen, starts out like a shock cue with a spooky mix of tapping drums and electronic strings before slurring into a catchy salsa rhythm. Funky Tubes and Rain take a darker path, bringing a playful, exuberant spirit to a gothic style that would ordinarily accompany a vampire's castle. For a house in such rampant disrepair, it's tenant forces seem quite spry for their years.
Music Box starts out reusing, note for note, the classic T7G puzzle theme before segueing into the aloof library cue of 11H, a union that shows how far Team Fat had come between the two games in layering their theme elements. Rain in particular, used for Robin's entering the mansion, starts out strong, as she views the house from afar, propelling her forward. As she reaches the front porch, the cue's strength, along with her confidence, is cut down by half, replaced with an air of sad hesitation, the song seeming to know Robin's choice even before she crosses the threshold. A breath held amongst the pitter patter of rain drops... or tears.
The CD concludes with a brief hawaiian rendition of The Game, returning us once again, with a short "Ahui hou", to the wet and windy frontier of the raging, faceless storm.
Awesome, even if you have the 7th Guest soundtrack already!.......2004-06-10
I was a little hesitant to buy this, since I had the 7th Guest, which comes with a soundtrack cd. I also didn't like the 11th Hour quite as much as Guest. However, this is well worth the money. You not only get all the 7th Guest music, but the tracks that have low-quality speaking over them (as in the 7th Guest soundtrack) are now present with no speaking parts.
The entire album has been re-mixed, so you don't get all of one game's music, and then the others. The album begins and ends with the Hawaiian versions of the 11th Hour and 7th Guest themes, sort of as bookends for the whole work. Then it gets into the singles, which are (in no order): The Game, Skeletons In My Closet (both 7th Guest), Mr. Death, The Final Hour (both 11th Hour). Then the disc has all the room and game music, mixed so that sometimes a 7th Guest song segues into an 11th Hour song, and vice-versa.
I found that being very familiar with the track listing of the 7th Guest was no impediment to liking this disc. The tracks are all skillfully mixed together to make a hauntingly beautiful work. If you're a fan of the 7th Guest, played the 11th Hour, and love the music, this is the disc you need.
Legendary game music.......2003-08-07
One of the reasons why the music for the 7th Guest and the 11th hour worked so well, was the quality. It didnt sound like game music. There were real songs with real instruments, vocals and texts, and it all worked on a level none of the young gamers could imagine. Coming from the Fingers of the Fat Man and his team, the soundtrack to 7/11 is a fantastic summary of one of the biggest highlights of these two games. Even 11 years after 7th guest`s release, the songs still sits as glue, and this record does mainly give you a chance to play all the songs again.
This record is like a big, long trip down memory lane, filled with all the haunting melodies and sounds you remember all too well. It doesnt leave it at that, no, it sounds crystal clear too, and every song is wonderful and a piece of art in their own right.
It combines parts of the cutscenes from 11th hour, to puzzles, to theme songs, to the whole soundtrack from the 7th Guest. It mixes 7th guest songs with 11th hour, so that you get a enjoyable experience all the way thru, and you are not tempted to skip any parts, because pieces are often glued together so that after a while in one song, it changes subtle into another piece. Skipping the songs will cause you to miss these parts.
The more I listen to this album, the better it gets. It really, really have to be listened to at its fullest, without any skipping or stops. It begins with a enjoyable hawaiian version of The Final Hour, and ends with another Hawaiian version of The Game. Excellent relaxing intro and outro.
The highlights of this album(If I MUST point out some), is:
-The Final Hour Hawaiian: Relaxing, cool tune with a slide guitar and some rain and thunder in the background, all backed up by some tropical beat. Enjoyable to the max.
-Skeletons in my Closet: Yes, this is a classic. Wonderful vocals, a great text and an memorable tune. I always imagine skeletons as the backing choir, making me smile everytime I hear it.
-Chapel Pain: Ahhh the good old Choir from 7th Guest. This one is dramatic and short, and it leads into......
-The Game: One of my favorites from the two games. Taking the theme, making it into a rock song, it sounds just awesome. The rock is laidback and, interesting enough, relaxing yet headbanging. It works without question. Major highlight.
-The Final Hour: First listen may scare you away, not because its scary, but it sounds very weird. Its a rock song, but more like a crazy one with tons of weird vocals, a totally awesome backing choir, a hilarious front vocal by Fat Man himself, a catchy rocktune driving everything. I cant stop listening to this one. Best song on the whole album when you finally get the point.
-In Front of Docs: Relaxing, non vocal song, with soft drums and guitars. Very easy on the ears, and fading into the even better
-Ashes: A more melodic continuation of "In Front of Docs", with a very catchy yet laidback rock. Sounds somehow like a softer piece of Smashing Pumpkins. Great.
-Big Ol`Outro: I love this tune, sounds like the end of a longer rock song, gotta be heard to be believed. Works very good when trying to reach something in time in a game...trust me...:)
-Short Intro: WHO can forget this one? Its the song playing when you first see the title screen in 7th Guest! Need I say more? Naaaaaaaahhhhhhh...
-Dolls of Doom: Haunting. Thats the key word. One of the most eeriest songs in the game. You just feel the unearthy evil that is going on. Freaky as a nightmare, yet with a funny and relieving end.
-Xmusic Box: AAAAAAAHHHHH The memories! AHHH the pain! The Puzzles! This is the MOST known puzzle song of them all, I both love it, yet I hate it for the reason it appears in the game, but it isnt a negative hate. Its spooky with a twist, and turns into a twisted jazzy piece at the end.
-All The Guests: This one works better with the conversation spoken, it doesnt have the same spooky effect without. The one with the conversation can be heard on the second 7th Guest cd.
-Doorbell: This one is great! Dramatic, spooky opening with a doorbell sounding, it drags you back to the house no matter how far away you are...
-Hey Conductor: Can it be any more snazzy than this? Finger tipping, bluesjazzy and fun, this one is a total winner.
-Foyer Entrance: Ahh yes, when the guests arrive. Who can forget this masterpiece. One of the big highlights from the 7th Guest.
-The Game Hawaiian: Another of the hawaiian pieces, yet not as good as the Final Hour, but it is great as the finishing track, to take away some of the tension built up earlier.
To summarize this review, I will say that this is one of the best game soundtracks ever. The music it self is legendary, and Fat Man should be credited and praised for the work he did. Without him, the 7th Guest and the 11th hour would NEVER have been what it was. For those who never played the 7th guest and/or 11th hour, I cannot guarantee you will like what you hear, because this isnt mainstream. But for the souls that played the 7th Guest on a dark night for the first time...this is the biggest Deja Vu you will ever get in your life, and one darn good time. The cd player will smile after a spin with this cd.
Unforgettable soundtrack which will not disappoint fans!.......2002-09-30
No matter what one's opinion about the 1992 PC game, "The 7th Guest", is there's no denying the game's developers, Trilobyte, struck gold when they released this gem that gave gamers a decent excuse for purchasing a CD-Rom drive for their 386. Despite the focus of it's success being contributed by it's cutting edge technology and FMV sequences that were way ahead of its time, it's popularity was also due to it's great overall atmosphere of an old spooky mansion, which the soundtrack is to thank for. This album is a compilation of the music employed that developed that eerie environment of both "The 7th Guest" and its highly anticipated yet unsuccessful sequel "The 11th Hour".
Many who still have some vague memory of the games will instantly recognise the majority of the songs on the album such as the title theme, "Short Intro", to the sequence upon first entering the scary Stauf mansion, "Foyer Entrances", which shows the strength of the music leaving a great impression more then a decade ago of it's release. The music itself is a mixture of orchestrated, ragtime, rock, choral chant and even rap in the amusing "Mr. Death", all melded together by the versatile talent of composer, The Fat Man, and his talented crew. Despite some of the later tracks in the album sound like MIDI files and the throw away rock theme "The Game", such tunes like the cabaret ditty "Skeletons In My Closets", Hawaiian style interlude, "In Front Of Doc's", and the chilling "Ghost Of Bo" will be sure to bring back those feelings of nostalgia of playing the game back in the glory days of 2X CD-Rom drives.

What ??.......2006-12-10
The idiot from Virginia thought it a bit strange that an American black man would give the communists a chance. Looking back from modern perspective is easier than what he had to go on in the thirtes. Gee, I wonder why a black man would do that after all that southern hospitality, segregation, and steady work you gave the "black folk". Not to mention all those nighttime campfires you had going in their honor.
While I might be from New York I certainly would not be called a bleeding heart liberal but I can certainly understand why the poor soul was looking elsewhere. You are either ignorant of history and its influences on people or you are a totally unsympathetic jackass!!
Nice Voice, but not a nice person...(read on, pls.).......2006-01-07
Paul Robeson, who was brainwashed into
beleiving Communist rhetoric (which is
strange as hell for an Amer-I-can black
man). A good singing voice but all cover
songs! Come on, Paul!
A let down.......2004-09-24
I own several Robeson recordings and purchased this one with high hopes as it has a great selection of tracks. Unfortunately given the excellent recording quality of "Songs for Free Men" and "The Paul Robeson Oddyssey", the remasters from what I assume are 78's and possibly radio are a let down and mar what could have been an excellent album.
The definitive Paul Robeson compilation.......2003-09-19
This 2 CD set of Paul Robeson is the definitive collection providing a decent overview of his work in 50 tracks all wonderfully restored from 78s as usual for ASV, with spirituals, show tunes, Shakespeare-like readings, and more done with a trademark bass voice and orchestration that backs up Paul perfectly and he would later be one of the first civil rights activists. The first disc is a reissue of the single disc "Ol' Man River-His 25 Greatest" on ASV containing "Ol' Man River," "Mighty Like a Rose," "Joshua Fit De Battle Ob Jericho," "Carry Me Back To Green Pastures," "Lazy Bones," and many more classics which is also available here at Amazon for those who only want a single disc of Paul's work and the 2nd disc contains 25 more classics including "Nobody Knows The Trouble I've Seen," "The Old Folks At Home," "My Old Kentucky Home," "Wagon Wheels," "Git On Board, Little Children," and many more. In other words, all 50 of these tracks are essential to any early pop, folk, gospel, blues, etc. music fan and this is the set to introduce yourself to his work in a convenient 2 CD package with the usual great liner notes and details on the original 78s ASV provides with each CD released in their Living Era series.

Legendary Memphis producer Jim Dickinson has nailed the vibe of this octogenarian Delta bluesman's rag-tag club and juke-joint gigs. That's good for purists, but not necessarily for fans of Ford's previous Fat Possum albums. The foot-stomping irrationality and whimsical violence of earlier numbers like the barking "To the Left, To the Right" and "If I Had Wings" have been traded for Ford's dusty-throated Howlin' Wolf imitations ("Ask Her for Water" and "Backdoor Man"), low-key dynamics, and meandering tempos. The sole surprise is "The Duke," an instrumental with Dickinson providing moonshine-inspired barrelhouse piano. Strip away Ford's legitimate eccentricities, which the label's house production team has played up in the past, and he's merely a competent guitarist with a drummer-sidekick, Spam, who knows just two patterns. The roughly autobiographical title track does tap Ford's reserve of twisted energy a bit as it totters over a dizzy roadbed of drunken chords and slide licks while he groans about his lost gun. But too often, Ford sounds more tired than tough here. --Ted Drozdowski
Customer Reviews:
The Baddest Man.......2006-02-06
I was at the Baltimore Blues festival a few years back under a hot sun and full of whiskey (which is the only proper way to listen to the blues). The festival was for the most part okay. Nearing the end everyone migrated over to the tent where the man was gonna play. The announcer stood up on the stage after T-Model had dragged himself up there and said: "Ladies and gentlemen, this is the baddest man on the planet!" He wasn't lying.
It's nice to see T-model go back to basics. This album is full of the attitude, energy, and just plain nastiness of the first three. Although I am a fan of Pee Wee Get My Gun, and still thinks it's his best, Bad Man is a must by for any true blues fan.
Good One When You Need Something Heavy and Real.......2005-04-01
Not for a back ground music for your sophisticated afternoon. Too heavy for that. This one is good for sit-down-and-listen - really listen. He is not singing. He is not playing. Instead, his LIFE is singing and playing, not for you, but for his LIFE itself. It's that kind of music you find in this CD. His LIFE is in it.
By far my favorite T-model ford album.......2004-07-01
When T-model ford get's going he's unstoppable His raw riff oriented Guitar and amazingly raw voice go together perfictly. On most T-Model ford albums there are couple songs that arn't really that good and make the album alittle less enjoyable. But there is none of that on this record. Like T-Model himself say on this Record, "That's some good soundin' music there"
I'm still a Chicken-Head Man........2004-03-07
T-Model Ford has been through the mill more than once, and at 80 is still working hard to get the dying message of the Mississippi Hill Country Blues out to those who will listen. With drummer Spam, James "T-Model" Ford plays an endless boogie reflecting the hardships of being shot, stabbed, poisoned, and working on a chain gang. "Bad Man" is a driving reflection of a man who won't quit, and his interpretation of the chaos around him. Featured with R.L. Burnside in the February 2002 Issue of the New Yorker, T-Model & Spam are currently touring on the Fat Possum Mississippi Juke Joint Caravan. With more stamina than most young artists today, his style is reflective of artists like Lightnin' Hopkins, Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters; but is stripped-down and brutally honest. All the tracks are originals, produced live by Memphis legend Jim Dickinson. It's T-Model, his guitar, Spam and nothing else. T-Model doesn't complain here, it's just his way of saying that he learned the hard way. This album does not reflect a relic of the past, nor does it want sympathy; it's an interpretation of a bluesman that celebrates the will to keep going despite adversity of any kind.
Bad Man Makes For Good Music!.......2002-10-03
According to the liner notes, Ford has been shot, stabbed and poisoned and his ankles bear the scars of chain gang shackles. As if that weren't enough, the self proclaimed boss of the blues announces at the beginning of the CD that he "ain't never been to school a day in [his] life and can't read or write". All that may be true, but one thing's for sure the man from Greenville, Mississippi certainly has the credentials to play the blues.
Lesser known perhaps than RL Burnside or the late Junior Kimbrough, he is every bit as interesting. Ford's style is unconventional and uncompromising and he plays blues using the old blues standard of three chords and the truth. Songs straight from the heart, raw, rough and ready to be heard.

Of all the white boy rockers to reach back to the blues in mid-life crisis, none in recent memory succeed as well as Paul Westerberg, a.k.a. Grandpaboy. Dead Man Shake is a ragged, loud, shuffling garage-blues record that reeks of stumbling good times, and the kind of stuff you do and say when you think no one's looking at you, or you're too far gone to care. Westerberg's not making sensitive statements or trying to write a pop song as good as "Alex Chilton" here. As such, it's the best music he's made in years. The originals are bluesy slop worthy of Fat Possum's trademark of quality, while the covers are wild and strange, from a drunken karaoke "What Kind of Fool Am I" to a riotous, slide guitar-fueled "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry." Like the 'Mats themselves in concert, even the bad songs on here are good. "No Matter What They Say" has the line "I went to Madison Square Garden / And I had a terrible time," delivered so Basement Tapes-blankly it redeems the whole song, which you'd swear the band played while passed out. This record teems with one-liners ("I'm just a honky in the parking lot," "Get A Move On") and, against all odds, it just might be one of the year's best. --Mike McGonigal
Album Description
Grandpaboy is the not-too-secret alter ego of Paul Westerberg, former frontman of The Replacements. Dead Man Shake is his 2003 album, a collection of 14 blues & country influenced rock n' roll tracks. Digipak. Fat Possum.
Customer Reviews:
odd, growly, funny, driving.......2005-07-12
A very vry good blues album - an urban version of Mississippi hill country blues - and Westerberg carries it off pretty well. Listen to it at 1 a.m. with a cold beer in hand.
Ragged but just right.......2004-12-19
If you are a blues purist, or prefer clean, fluid, Clapton-like blues guitar, look elsewhere. On the other hand, if you loved the 'Mats at their peak, or wonder what the Stones might sound like coming in after an all-nighter, plugging in, turning the tape machine on, and letting loose, then "Dead Man Shake" is for you. I definitely fit into the latter category, and this to me is ragged, bluesy rock'n'roll that is a whole lot of fun. The drunken-sounding rendition of "I'm so Lonesome I Could Cry" is worth the price of admission by itself. Get it and turn it up!
He means it!.......2004-11-30
Paul Westerberg is not just having fun/mucking around, he's serious. The Amazon.com reviewer is totally wrong about 'No Matter What You Say'. Alongside O.D. Blues, it's the greatest thing here, and I mean great, ranking up there with the best of The Replacements. A wonderful album, only Do Right In Your Eyes, Take Out Some Insurance and Get A Move On are less focussed, every other song played/sung with intensity. The trick is to finally submerge yourself in this unexpected bluesworld, which - the same as every album he's released since 1999 - takes multiple repeat listens. I agreed with the reviewer who said "Don't Buy This" after my first listen and tried to take it back!
Fun and Messy.......2004-09-22
This is Paul at his loosest. Having fun with blues based rock. Not the best album he can do, but a good album to throw on while drinking at night. Enjoyable, but my hair doesn't stand on end like it can when Westerberg is at his peak. For an example of that, go listen to "Come Feel Me Tremble", released at the same time as this (or "Stereo/Mono" which is even better).
Low-tech, rough-edged, and a hoot........2004-09-03
If you like early Replacements more than their later stuff, or if you like the Stones more than the Beatles, or if you like unpretentious barroom blues/rock, you'll like this.
No, it's not a landmark disc, and it's not going to change the world. It is what it is: A few guys plugging in, letting loose, and having a good time. That said, it DOES sound like it was recorded in someone's basement.
Some albums have all the life and cajones produced right out of 'em with Phil-Spector like walls of sound. This ain't one of 'em.
ps: Note that one of the earlier reviewers -- a gentleman who gave this album one star -- had this to say: "i understand he is a member of the replacements?? the other band members in the replacements should consider replacing paul." 'Nuff said.

Album Description
2007 from the sax-slingin' R&B legend. Starting off as a key member of Lucky Millinder's legendary band, the Big Man was soon blowing hot sax on a succession of salty, saucy, sexy hits, as rockin' as they were risqué. As well as playing with Millinder, Bullmoose Jackson and others of the most out-there aggregations of the time - Big John was really the daddy of them all: just listen and you will hear! Rev-Ola.

mm yes very good music to listen to...but 5 bucks there selling it for?? thats a tad cheap?! anyhoo lol shh i sing all the songs while having a shower :P
album has a couple of standouts but monotonous (3 1/2 stars).......2005-03-08
I decided to get this album after I heard the song "never had so much fun", which is the best song on the cd, and i was a little let down when i listened to it
Never had so much fun- 10/10 awesome song, guitar solo, drumming, bass, everything. if you dont get this album, at least get this song off of itunes or something because u will love it.
You are not my friend- 6/10 very monotonous and boring
Its up to you- 9/10 great upbeat song. really fun to listen to
I know everything about everything- 7/10 kind of catchy, one of the better slower songs on the album.
I miss my lung- 4/10 this song just doesnt belong on this album. it should be on some acoustic compliation or something.
We're going out tonight- 8/10 fun song, a little poppy, but still really fun.
Let's drink beer- 10/10 awesome song! 3rd favorite song on the album. starts off kinda slow but really picks up to a really fast song with a really cool guitar solo and an extremly catchy chorus.
I know why dinasaurs became extinct- 1/10 whats the point of this song?
I dont need your loving (all i need is a spinal operation)- 6/10 also a slow monotonous song. the chorus is kind of catchy.
Self destructor- 8/10 I like how frenzal rhomb did this song cause they made it upbeat but still quiet and its pretty fun to listen to.
Im the problem with society- 8.5/10 cool song with some cool guitar riffs, cool chorus.
Do you want to fight me? 10/10 really really good! its my 2nd favorite song on the album. has an awesome guitar riff in the bridge, and a sweet solo. really really catchy.
methadone- 6.5/10 another pretty monotonous song. its ok at some points.
Writing's on the wall- 8/10 fun song, upbeat. kind of different, but still really good.
Summer's here- 7/10 Its upbeat and has nice guitar and drums and all, but for some reason it doesnt seem very good like the other upbeat songs. Frenzal couldve ended this album off alot better.
Fun Songs.......2003-09-03
In times where the charts are dominated by boy bands, soppy love songs and girls who can't really sing but do look nice while attempting to, it's great to have albums and bands like this one.
Sure in twenty years time none of these songs will be in music hall of fames but who cares? These songs are fun, simple and you don't have to think about them too much. Never Had So Much Fun, Summer's Here and I Don't Need Your Loving are my favourites.
Lyrics are also included which is a good thing because their accents are pretty strong in some songs but once you know the words you will understand. Also photos in the cover booklet of a plastic camel in an ever emptying pint of beer. Go on, have some fun,...
Watta letdown.......2000-08-04
Had this been the band's debut, Frenzal would no doubt have been heralded as a force in the making. And rightly so. But coming as it did on the heels of the brilliant Meet The Family and the almost-as-brilliant Not So Tough Now, Camel is a major disappointment. There's some good stuff here (Do You Wanna Fight Me, We're Going Out Tonight, So Much Fun), but overall it's too inconsistent. One for Frenzal newcomers only. And if you can track it down, snaffle up a copy of Mongrel, a live album from Frenzal's Vans Warped tour of a couple of years back. It was released in Oz as a bonus disc with Family, and it's easily one of the best live pop/punk albums on the planet. Your ears will love you for it. Trust me.
Funny punk.......2000-03-06
With this CD Frenzal have really managed to put humour and punk together. Songs are always throwing twists, such as I miss my lung. The name sorta gives it away, but when first hearing the song your not expecting the song to be about a missing lung.
A man's not a camel is Punk, but it's not really that punky. It's slightly pop, but don't let that put you off. I don't like most pop, but I still thought this was a decent CD.
It is also a pretty aussie CD, Frenzal's a pretty aussie band.
If you need a punk CD that's good to listen to and funny at the same time, get this, or any other Frenzal Rhomb CD.

Album Description
AMG EXPERT REVIEW: Due to releases like Jerusalem Under Fire, Israeli percussionist Badawi (real name Raz Mesinai) has become one of the world's most renowned Middle Eastern percussionists. He's become an influential figure for the New York City trip-hop (or illbient) style of underground dancehall/dub music, a scene that has spawned the likes of DJ Spooky, DJ Olive, and a host of others. Amazingly, almost all the sounds you hear on Jerusalem Under Fire are played by Badawai himself, who handles percussion, flute, and effects duties, as well as supplying the string arrangements and remixing and rearranging the songs. Two other musicians (violinist Simi Sernaker and tabla player Karsh Kale) help fill out the already rich sound, while all of the compositions are entirely instrumental. Highlights are many, but the very best would have to be the constant violin swirl of "Soldier of Midian," and the percussion-driven opening track "Critical Combustion," and the traditional reggae sounds of "Kill the Messenger." old-school dub with an arab twist.......2000-08-18
Any lover of dub music who is bored with the current orthodoxy of Mad Professor/Massive Attack-type Brit techno-dub should check out Badawi and his return to the old-school roots of reggae. Echoing such dub masters as Scientist and King Tubby, Badawi manages to be creative and innovative not only by putting an Arab, percussion-heavy slant on dub tracks, but also by mixing up the tempo and instrumentation of the songs to cross over with styles like rocksteady and rai. This album is a must-have for all fans of dub, as well as fans of all world music crossovers and synthesis in general. Also, if you like Badawi but would prefer lyrics (in French, English and Arabic), you should check out the French band "Gnawa Diffusion".

Customer Reviews:
Overall, a really strong 4-CD collection of Fats Domino.......2006-12-21
Let's make no mistake about it. The two most important figures spearheading the new art form known today as rock'n'roll, essentially transforming in speed and rawness the existing styles of rhythm and blues, jazz boogie, blues, and country, were Fats Domino and Chuck Berry (with Little Richard likely qualifying for third place).
This 4-CD collection is therefore one of the most important items for those attempting a musical survey of the genre known as rock. Even 4 CDs means a lot of great tracks must be omitted, though this is a cheap collection of 4, pricewise. Still, this collection made a brave effort to include most of the R&B hits of Fats Domino but not all singles (an almost impossible task, given this man's gigantic repertoire). So, for instance, the collection starts with The Fat Man which is side 2 of Detroit City Blues, but a better song so Side 1 was omitted. Early R&B chart hits such as Every Night About This Time, Goin' Home, Going To The River, All By Myself, or Poor Me, are all included on the first CD that takes the listener up to 1955 (culminating in one of his biggest "crossover" hits Ain't That A Shame).
CD #2 thus has the greatest hits so far as the Top 100 is concerned, during the golden era of Rock'n'Roll (e.g., Blueberry Hill). But Fats Domino continued to chart right through the 1960s, and so this collection ends in 1962 (curious, given this is a collection of Imperial Recordings, since he had some more Imperial singles up to 1964, but admittedly perhaps less "Legendary" ones!)
It is really important for those studying rock, or engaged in composing and performing it, to study the roots, and no investigation of such roots would be complete without Fats Domino and (as I've said earlier) Chuck Berry. There is a looseness, a playfulness, a grittiness, and a profoundly heartfelt quality, that are positively moving. Knowing what was to come for the next 50 years, you can hear the seeds of the future in these short recordings - the Stones, the Doors, Soft Machine, the Velvets, Punk, Alternative Rock, Hip Hop.
We are now over 50 years past the beginning of rock. You see, it never did die. And these sweet recordings are the glorious sounds of its bastard birth.
Boogie Woogie Country Man.......2004-06-16
If you like New Orleans Rock 'n' Roll this is one thing for you. I bought this box because I wanted best of the Fat Man and this box (4 cd set) was cheap, nicely done and included the best songs he ever recorded. Booklet is nicely done too (almost hundred pages).

Another fine addition to the series.......2001-02-13
After a bit of a slip with the second, this series was back on track with this third CD of songs cut from well-known musicals. As I mentioned in a previous review, just about any successful musical has had songs cut from it, not always because the song wasn't good, but because it no longer fit the show as updated, or a character or scene was cut (the booklet explains why each song was removed from its show). Once again, the songs are all good and the performances are wonderful. My favorites are "Mama's Talking Soft" (cut from Gypsy), "Big Fat Heart" (Seesaw), "Your Own College Band" (Where's Charley?), "When I Go Out Walkin' with my Baby" (Oklahoma!), and "Pick Up the Pieces" (also Seesaw). Bruce Kimmel was smart in using show singers instead of pop singers. I recommend the entire series. This CD features some fine songs that deserve renewed appreciation.
